User Summary
War Room puts players in control of the U.S. Army as a commander in a simulated version of the War in Afghanistan. While the game takes place in a fictional province known as Kushan, the overall story and the battle designs are based of off real world events in the war. The province spans over 1000 square kilometers, and players command hundreds of units on a realistic battlefield. They must use real-world military strategy and tactics to ensure victory.
An RTS with milsim flair, the game gives players control over nearly every aspect of the war. Besides the direct control of individual units, players can call in air support via attack helicopters, bombers, and various strike aircraft to assist in battle. They will also be responsible for evacuating wounded soldiers and civilians while minimizing collateral damage. In between major battles, troops must be managed and upgraded, and morale must be maintained. Units will go on patrol and must identify potential threats to the stability of the province. Patrols must remove IEDs and booby traps in order to maintain and create supply lines, establish bases, and take on humanitarian missions to aid the civilian population in the province.
Players will be presented with near constant important choices in War Room as they develop their strategy and execute missions. These choices have a direct impact on the success and power structure of the war and will have permanent consequences. Players will even be given responsibility for establishing and maintaining democratic elections and supporting the candidate of their choice. Preserving and expanding relationships, equipment, and territory control are all vital mechanics in the game, so how they choose to manage time and resources will create branching story paths. There are multiple endings to the story as a result.
In addition to the units, equipment, and air support, players have access to drones equipped with real-world ocular enhancements such as FLIR, thermal, and night vision. They must use these resources to carry out reconnaissance missions in order to develop sound strategy and tactics as each battle approaches. War Room has a dynamic set of enemies as different insurgent groups and terrorist cells have unique specialties and behaviors. Some may specialize in financing terrorist operations via the illicit drug trade while others may specialize in recruitment or the creation of IEDs. Proper reconnaissance can aid the player in identifying how enemies may behave in battle.
War Room is a sprawling strategy milsim that requires active involvement in nearly every aspect of war to succeed.
