Rules to create more Magic Items, with drawbacks
Monks following the Way of the Custodian strive to protect the world from those who would misuse magical items. Adventuring monks seek out and collect powerful and dangerous magical items and artifacts, transporting them back to secret temples in hard to reach locations. Static monks guard these repositories of items, leading lives of quiet contemplation, but watching, waiting, and ever ready to protect these magical items and prevent their use.
One of the difficulties with playing a monk is the need to explain why your monk has left the sanctuary of their temple and ventured out into the big wide world. What drives your monk to adventure? And why do monks always live in such inaccessible places - surely a master of mediation doesn’t require the peace and quiet in order to contemplate the world? What should be done with an item which is too dangerous to use and too difficult to destroy? The way of the custodian provides players and DMs with many possible answers to these essential questions.
