This game is about being lost and finding your way. The characters are lost, neglected but resourceful children struggling to survive within the walls of an orphanage in a dying city during a time of war. Hiding in the shadows and gathering resources, their hope hinges on their trust of each other and a secret escape plan.
Will they snitch on others and betray them or instead swear on their behalf so that they can keep their plans hidden. Or maybe they will instead snatch an opportunity for themselves leaving the lost behind.
Over the course of the game, the characters will explore the orphanage and perhaps sneak out into the city more than once, make deals with dark creatures, hear rumors, build a hideout, get in trouble, get caught and hopefully escape into a much larger world of adventure.
The goal of the game is for the characters to devise a plan of escape from the Protectory and the surrounding walled city, and carry it out successfully. The city is sprawling, dangerous and filled with guards who drag the characters back to the safety of the Protectory, often by force. And without provisions and food, their journey outside the walls would be short lived and badly ended. And there are darker things in the shadows of the city as well, waiting.
