The game provides statistics for seven Terran Confederation Fighters and seven Kilrathi Fighters. Each player starts with two Heavy, three Medium, and three Light Fighters of their selection. One Fighter must be designated the Wing Commander. The players assign a Pilot to each one of their Fighters. There are eight named pilots for each side and each pilot has a special advantage.
The game is played on a chessboard or any other 8x8 grid. Miniatures or counters are used to represent the ships. A custom deck of cards is central to the play of the game. The players draw hands of cards from the shared deck. Card play determines when units may move, attack, and defend.
