Wreckfest, formerly known as Next Car Game is a racing game developped by Bugbear, and released for Windows in 2018, and PS4/XboxOne in 2019. It runs on an in-house developped physics engine.
While running on the same fundamental rules as typical modern racing games, Wreckfest is less about the focus on tyre-to-ground physics engine, with high-performance vehicles drifting through corners at speed, and more about the car collision physics, and races where you elbow your way through the other cars, shoving them around.
The player advances through several championships, each of which consists of a variety of races. The various races follow different rules. While most races are simply about finishing first, some races are destruction derbies, where you need to be the last man standing. Most races gives the player special bonus points for crashing an opponent or forcing him to spin around. For each race, the player earns experience points and in-game money. The in-game money is used to buy new cars and tunings, and the experience points are needed to unlock certain types of cars.
The game does not feature couch multiplayer with split-screen, and the console versions also do not allow for LAN gaming.
