From publisher blurb:
Wretched New Flesh is an upcoming Red Room game, an OSR adaptation of Postcards from Avalidad, a Postmortem Studios setting by Miguel Ribeiro. The quickstart includes most of the rules and a setting introduction.
This is a near-future sci-fi/ surreal horror game inspired by the works of William S. Burroughs, David Cronenberg, William Gibson, and Clive Barker. The game setting is centred on Avalidad, a futuristic city in Morocco, where corporations have been conducting research in genetics, cybernetics, augmented and virtual reality, and biotechnology. By default, characters are expected to be ZoneSec operatives (a mix between law-enforcement agency and state police) or executives for Takeda Technologies (one of the most relevant corporations in Avalidad), but other roles such as Avalidad’s celebrities, fiscal royalty and seedy underbelly are also possible.
Do you need this if you already own the Postmortem Studios version of Postcards from Avalidad? Well the quickstart is PWYW, so you can just pick it up to try the old-school mechanics. As for the upcoming full version, here’s what changes:
• The rules, of course. The original Postmortem Studios game setting included stats for Actual Fucking Monsters and *Punk, while Wretched New Flesh is a Wretched game, hence
it has its own old-school mechanics, compatible with the previous games.
• There were also additions to the setting: it presents you with an expanded chronology of events, a city guide that aims to add more flavour to the City’s description (it also adds a few new locations and characters, a larger equipment list, details about other corporations of note besides Takeda Technologies and the Kobayashi Corp, information about the gambling city of Lisbon (described in the All Bets are Off sourcebook), some more character stats, more details on ZoneSec, and a random table that uses a deck of regular cards or a Tarot to determine events and encounters with non-player characters.
