In ナワバリ (Nawabari), the players compete over a series of rounds to score the most points.
Each round is composed of 3 or 4 turns, in which players will draft a card from a row. At the start of each turn, some cards are turned face up and ordered by number. The players each draft a card in the order of their tokens, from left to right, and the placement of these tokens on the cards from this turn will determine the turn order for the next round.
Once selected, a player takes the chosen card and places it in front of themselves. The cards have a number of attributes, such as odd/even number; terrain type; and card effect. Some cards provide an immediate benefit; others allow conversions; and some are conditional effects.
At the end of each round, players will score for the current round's scoring card, and other scoring types. Afterwards, the players simultaneously choose one card from their tableau to keep, which also determines turn order for the next round.
