TDG: Carcassonne Big Box unboxing with Ray
Transcript
Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the discriminating gamer. You know last night my girlfriend was complaining that I never listen to her or something like that. Today we're taking a look at the Carcasson big box from Hanzamuk and Zman Games. Now Carcasson has been out for quite a long time and they've had a whole bunch of expansions for it. And this box is going to contain the base game and I believe it's 11 different expansions that have come out. So, there is a whole lot inside of this box. Now, I've played some of the expansions, but not all of the expansions. So, I'm excited to get some of those actually played now. So, I tell you what, let's go down to the table. Let's open this one up and let's see what's on the inside.
All right, folks. Here we go. This is the Carcasson big box, and it does include the base game and 11 expansions. And this is a big box. I got to tell you that. Holy crud. All right. This thing's even thick. It's tall. And I'm really curious to see how all this stuff is inside of here. All right. Now, let's see. This is a game for ages seven and up. Two to six players. And you're looking at about 35 minutes to play the game. And we look at the designer. We got Klaus Jugan. I hope I got that name right. I'm really bad at names. But this is all the different expansions we're going to see on the inside. Everywhere from insathedrals, you got the flying machines, and you got the crop circles. I'll tell you what, let's just stop talking about it. Let's open this up. And I'm curious more to see how they organized all this because I know these expansions for this game have always been pretty modular. And you just kind of put in whatever expansions you want, but how are they going to be in this box? What's it going to look like?
What's is there an insert inside here? How are they grouped? I really have no idea. Okay, but let's take a look and let's see what we have now. Starting off and as I expected, we are just going to have a bunch of punch boards. All right. So, let's take a look at all those punch boards and let's see what we have and how are these punch boards organized because it looks like they Oh, yeah. These are going to fold. Okay. So, this is gonna be fun. Now, I'm going to show you. I don't know which ones these are, but I'm just going to show you what a lot of these tiles are going to look like. Okay. And I'm going to try to keep them on the camera the best that I can. Now, this is going to be your center section. I've got a lot of lakes in here and whatnot. Okay. And if we flip this one over now, we're going to see the backside. And I haven't, like I said, I haven't played a lot of these expansions. So, some of these I'm not really sure. I'm not familiar with some of the symbology that happens to be on them. All right. But, as you can see, these are just some really large boards that they're printing them all on. And then we'll have to figure out how they how they organize. Okay. So, same with this one. We got there's that side right there. As you can see, all your little hen tokens or chicken tokens. All right.
It's [snorts] kind of cool looking at them this way because you can kind of see how all the roads are and when they created them, okay, they have all the road paths. They have the city paths all built up. It's kind of really unique. It's really cool to look at them. I enjoy looking at them like this. Okay. And the backside of all of these is pretty much going to be the same as well, except for we're going to have Well, flip this around so you guys can see it. We're going to have a couple of them. They're going to have this darker colored. Same with this one right up here. And the darker color ones happen to be these here. Okay. All right. Get those off to the side. Now, what we got? Almost like some scoring tiles or something along those lines. Flip those over and we're going to see those. Okay. And now here's our score board. This is where we're going to be running our track little token up so we can keep track of what our score is going to look like. And I always love the little map of all the river and the towns and everything. That always looks kind of really cool. All right. Um, oh, this piece of cardboard. This, I'm pretty sure we're going to be folding this one up. And this is going to be our divider that's going to be sorting out and separating all of the components.
Looks like we got the same with this. This is going to be another little divider as well and kind of get a look at it right there. All right. And we'll have to definitely, as you can see, it's got it spots right here where you can fold it. And I'm going to go after the fact. I'll get all this folded up. I want to do it carefully. Make sure I don't damage anything. All right. Got a couple more towels right here. All right, there's your back side of those. So that's your that's your one. I like that little bridge. Okay, that bridge looks kind of cool. We'll take a little troll across that. Do a little fishing. All righty. Now we're going to have our rule book. Let's put this off to the side. We can set this rule book down so we can take a look at it. Now, this is going to be 24 pages. All right, so it's going to start off and it's going to tell us right here. We're going to have uh the base game. And you know what? Let's do this. I'm going to take you guys for just a short little ride because, you know, we really don't need to be panned out that far.
And this way you guys can see this just a little bit better. Okay. So, we're going to have the base game rules and the farmers. All right. Then, we're going to have all the different expansions all the way from the river down to the crop circles. And then you're going to have an appendix. You have your tileless. It would be really nice because if you can sort this back out, how do you get it separated back out? That's going to be really cool. All right. So, there you go. It's got our components and our setup. Okay. Then we got our object of the game, our regular gameplay. And this is just going to be our core carcass on here. Several meuples on a single feature, and then your game end final scoring. So that looks like about the core rule book. Now we're going to get into the farmers. All right. Now, we got the river expansion, and then of course the Abbott, and the river came with like most of the sets for the longest time, it seemed like. Uh, ends and cathedrals. Here we have the large mele special land tiles there. All right. The traders and the builders. We got the goods token.
And this for your builder. All right. Uh special land tiles here. And then we got the flying machine. Interesting. All right. See the message of the fairies. What we got? The gold mines. Uh the magicians. All right. The robbers. And then the crop circles. Now here we go. So here's going to be the tiles for your Carcasson base game right here. So, the tiles all must have little numbers on them somewhere, I'm guessing, or something like that. But then here's, of course, your your river, your crop circles, and you can look and see how all those tiles are going to go into what set. And then the very back of the book, you're going to get your figures, your turn sequins, and all that other information. Very nice. I like it.
Okay. Now, if we come back here and we take a look at the box, I'm going to go back up just a little bit so we can look inside this box a little bit. You'll see that there is actually space in here for several things. You can see we'll end up putting our dividers in here. And it looks like the symbology here is going to tell us what is going to go where. Okay? Because give you a better look and see how that inside looks. Okay, there you go. And we got to get that. Okay. Now, we're going to get just a regular wooden dice. Okay. It's going to have ones, twos, and threes for the number of pips on it. Really cool. And we're going to get a bag. And this is probably going to be all of our meuples. So, let's get this guy opened up and see what it looks like. Okay, move him a little bit more.
And I do like how they kind of have all these in their own little baggies. That's kind of actually really cool. All right, the dice. We're just going to chuck it back in there because, well, that's where it came from. Now, look like they're going to tell us what's going to be on the inside of every one of these, which is really cool. And I'm going to try to keep it to where I can seal these back up. Um, not really sure how much of this we're going to play as far as what order we're going to play it in, but as you can see, there's all the wooden meeples for this one right here. All right. Okay. And honestly, I have never had a problem with any of the wooden bits from uh any of the Carson games I've ever played. So, I'm sure these are going to be just as good as all of them in the past. We'll just open up all these bags just so you can see what what's inside of each one of them. There's some of you that, you know, if you're like me, you haven't played all of these different expansions, so you really don't know how all of them go. All right. Now, those are some tiny little pieces right there.
Wizard or something along those lines. Very cool. All right. And I'll tell you, for Carcasson, for the game, for what it is, I've just been amazed at the different stuff that they've come up for this game and everything else, it's just been fascinating to me. They keep coming up with these unique ideas for this little simple title laying game. And it's always been I' I've always had fun playing Carcasson. You know, it's to me it's a it's a fun little social game that I can sit around and I can play. Very nice. See all those different pieces right there? Little swines. Very cool. All right. like those. But yeah, it's always been that simple little game. You know, I I can sit around, I can play at the same time, I can have conversations during it, and I always have fun playing it.
So, okay. The only difficulty I've ever had with this game is trying to teach sometimes the farmers. Some people have a hard time understanding how the farmers work, but that's about it. Okay. And these looks like we got some oversized meeples on this one right there. And there you go. But otherwise, they look no problems whatsoever here to me. Okay, get those back in there. All right. Now, as you can see, that's what's in that bag. And this one here is just going to be we're going to have five of those. And it's like 40 meeples. So, this is going to be all your different player color meeples. We'll open this thing up. We'll look at look at them real quick. See, the very last one rips on. Made it all the way to the last bag. Okay. So, but there you go. There's there's your wooden meeples as well.
It's pretty typical to the what we've seen before in every other Carcass hunt game. I don't see any of that other one I saw when I first opened the bag, but they're, trust me, they're in there. I can see them. Oh, no. There's a red one right there. I'll show you the red one. Okay. Wow. And I play red. Oh, there's a black one, too. Okay. And since I play red and the red one's there, I'm good. All right. Let's close this one up. And And that's it. There's not a ton to this game. I didn't think there was going to be a ton in here. And this box is super huge. It just seems like it's way too big for what it needs to be. But I don't know. We're going to figure it out once uh we get all this stuff punched and all this stuff put back in place. Figure out how this is going to go in there. This is these pieces have to go in there somehow. All right. I'll go through and figure all that out. But until then, let's get all this back in. It's going to lift the lid just a hair probably because I don't have everything in quite exactly where it needs to be. But that will all be taken care of as soon as we get this punched and put them in place. But otherwise, there you go, folks. That is the Carcasson Big Box. Wow. I'll tell you what, I can't wait to play and try some of these other expansions. Some of them always look good. Some of them always looked unique and different, and I've been excited to play this one, play them for a long time, and now we finally can. I'm can't wait to get this one to the table. Well, let's head back up top, and let's close this out.
All right, folks. There you go. That is the Carcasson big box with all 11 expansions and everything in there. And there's, you know, quite a bit in here. I mean, every expansion is going to add something new. Whether it be some, you know, uh uh meeples or whether it be uh some different tiles or however it's going to change things up. Each one does something just a little bit different. And it's really nice. And with this box here, we do have everything. Um all those 11 expansions and however you want to mix them, match them around. It's just going to change your game up that much. Okay, there's a lot of tiles in this box. Um and it's actually really nice to have. Personally, I wish the box wasn't so big. I like big boxes like this. I just wish the boxes weren't so big because I probably could put all this in half the size box. But that's beside the point. But anyways, Carcasson big box. We got it. It's here. Looks good. I can't wait to give it a play.

You know, people who take care of chickens are literally chicken tenders. They have me on my feet again. And I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING. And I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'VE BEEN.
Probably probably the nicest face paint that George has ever gotten. And that's saying something.
