Hello graduates. It's Stella from Mele University and this is Stella's short and sweet preview for Chronicles of Crime Crypted Cases part of Beyond Doubt series from Lucky Duck Games. H this crime scene is a mess. Hey, you better be here to help us. You know, one of those crime shows where the detective walks in, squints at a footprint, and immediately declares, "I know who did it." Yeah, this is not that crime show. Imagine if Ghostbusters and XFiles had a mashup with XFiles, Moulder, and Skully's characters, The Skeptic, and The Believer, plus with psychic and analytical powers.

Now we have to solve the mystery, interrogate suspects, and maybe blast off supernatural myths. The game plays one to four plays with mechanics such as cooperative play, storytelling, and investigation. The game is yes, of light complexity. But can you crack the case? Chronicles of Crime Crypted Cases part of Beyond Doubt series is the third in the Chronicles of Crime installment. It is standalone. You don't need any other Chronicles of Crime games to play. It's an appbased game. So, yes, you'll need some sort of smart device. I mean, smartphone and such, you know. Jeez, yes, I'm a Gen X. And look, you don't need to be a cashier to scan like a pro.

Just point and scan. Each case is a one and done scenario, but the game comes with several. I'm using a prototype app he with more to come. To start the game, lay out the evidence board. Uh-huh. You'll be collecting evidence there. Keep the location tiles, character cards, and item cards ready. Add the new goodies, crypted files, and the neutralizer weapon. Then you start the scenario. The app drives everything. Scan a location to go there. Scan the suspect on location to interrogate them. I mean, all of them are guilty until proven innocent, right? Oh, hang on.

Scan evidence to watch them squirm or to gain information. Accidentally scan your cat? Probably not helpful. At certain locations, you may be able to look around the area. Hold the phone up and move it around to see the area in 360° view. Okay. Okay. I see a lamp, a knife, rub a chicken.

Ooh, it's a clue. Hey, don't dismiss the poultry. It's always the smoking chicken,

right? Like Colonel Sanders has gone rogue.

Hey, more people have been taken down by fried chicken than by daggers. One player scans the 3D scene in the app and describes what they see in 40 frantic seconds. Everyone else scrambles through evidence cards. Then you scan the ones you think matter. Time passes, pressure builds, and the rubber chicken never makes the cut at the end. Anyway, you listen to the clues that the people are telling you. More locations and items are revealed as you go. Listen in possible clues and ask the right questions. Uh, where were you last night at 11:03 p.m.?

Um, I was at home uh, watching cat videos. H

Millennial, then explain this.

All right. All right. I stole the neighbor's duck.

This one?

It It mocked me every time I walked past the fence.

Case closed. Embarrassing. not actually what happened in the game. We don't want to show any spoilers, of course. Then comes the twist, cryptids. When evidence or rumors point to something supernatural, you pull out the crypted files. Pick the crypted you think fits, put its card on the evidence board, and now you can interrogate witnesses about it.

Uh, excuse me, sir. Any drop bear sightings? A totally normal question. Your two specialists give you unique actions. Analyzers scan the character board, then scan cards to analyze extra information. Could be little hidden details you'd miss otherwise.

Oh, did you know this guy's been using his ex's Netflix password for years?

Scandalous. Psychic evaluation. Scan the character board, then scan a location to give you visions of the past. Clues, hints, or creepy details that may help crack the case. All right, Jefferson, do your thing. Tell us what happened here in the past.

I see a dark knight, a shadowy figure.

Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Anything useful?

Someone taking the last donut from the office kitchen. That was you, wasn't it?

Hey, hey, I was hungry. The spirits made me do it.

Once you're convinced it's supernatural, you break out the energy neutralizer. Scan the weapon. Scan the crypted. Scan the ingredient that banishes it. What? He looks smelly and could use better hygiene. Boom. Hope it works. If not, well, let's just say Bigfoot gets a free dinner. Actions cost a certain amount of time passed in the game. Every scan, interrogation, or special agent power, and the world changes as time passes, suspects move, events shift, and your witness suddenly moves halfway across town. Solve it fast or risk failing. If you think you've gotten to the bottom of things, you can choose to solve the case to answer a series of questions to prove that you do know what has happened. See how well you score. Are you going to be the next FBI heroes or Scooby-Doo rejects.

Crypted Cases takes the slick detective system and throws something different, supernaturals, into the mix. And the other chronicles of crime game in this series also mix things up. Courtroom justice gives you a unique point of view mechanic seeing things from the eyes of witnesses, while Elrich Secrets lets you use a rotating team of characters. Just don't let them get insane. In your investigation, expect twists, lies, contradicting clues. It's your job, detective, to seek out the truth if the monsters under your bed are real. So, thanks for watching, folks.
