6 Spiel releases reviewed in 18 minutes!
Transcript
Hello everyone. This is Cinema
and this is Johannes
and you're watching Board Gaming Ramblings.
And today we are doing a compilation of reviews. Six games, six reviews. It would be weird if it was like four games, three reviews or 10 games, one review,
12 opinions.
Yes, it's only going to be six reviews for six games or kind of like 12 12 opinions, six games.
I might might have more opinions about one game actually. but only like the people with two people
and then six games. That's going to be the format very if we've done it before. We are going to review these games. These are mostly going to be spiel releases cuz we are working on that pile of spiel games. These are all smaller games that we thought would be better to do in one video so you can get more small games. Doesn't mean they're not good games in one video. All of them are review copies just you know that before we go in. With that said, are you ready? Yeah.
Do you want to begin on your side?
Let's do it.
Yes. What is the first one on your side?
It's Capsule Collector.
Capsule Collector from Korea Board Games.
What you doing in this one?
In this game, you are collecting capsules. You're trying to place them beside each other in your grid so that you can open more capsules more the more easier. It's very simple game where you're like choosing a pile of identical capsules. The more the better often and then you get a little bonus action depending on how many you take and they're hidden with the points but like they're you know how many points there might be.
I love they're hidden with the points. The points are hidden. I think what you're trying to say hidden are hidden with the points. You have to go find them with the points.
It's a very simple game. I like the theme in this game, but it doesn't come through like very strong.
It's very abstract.
Very abstract.
It's very simple.
Luck based
so much.
It's very short.
That's a good thing.
Yes. I I would not like I'm I'm not super keen on playing it ever again.
No. The thing about like
it's a decent game. I don't I wouldn't I think that if you love super light card games then it like there's nothing in the game that's wrong. Like there's nothing mechanically that doesn't work. It's just not super exciting. It is there. We played it a few times and like
that was the thing.
It is very random like you said which things you get and it's random which because it's hidden with the points. One thing that I didn't like is that for some reason uh we ended up in a loop where one player always got like do an extra turn action and we
didn't get out of that.
No, it depends on the number of things happening and and how you play out.
That might be a very rare case, but we ended up like we just like okay an extra action for you for the 10th time. Cool.
But it was an okay game. Nothing very special. Next up is the bark side. I I I know because it's written in English on the side. It's not the one from Korea. Board games. This is a trick taking game and we like trick taking games. This is a pretty weird trick taking games. You have all these dogs in your hand.
They're so cute. I I love the artwork. There's a like bunch of dogs doing things that they're not meant to do. They're like dogs do. They're like breaking the rules.
Oh, like not like they have a job in an office or they're like the president or stuff like that. Oh, they're doing like naughty things like for example going over the fence when it says no dogs
or they're eating the sausages from the fridge.
These kind of things.
It's a very interesting mechanically trick taking game because when you play a normal trick taking game when I can't play I can play off suit and when I can't play here I have to play the lowest cards I have and then it's going to end up with everybody having one card. And then there is a thing where if as soon as somebody has played like out of suit then if you start a trick you can play multiple of the same card and everybody has to follow that and then if you can't like if somebody for example have four of the same you have to play the four lowest cards
and basically the only thing you don't want to do is you don't want to win the last trick. So that is because you want that's why you want to keep lower cards. So, it's a very weird because you're sending some cards in the beginning of the game and in almost all trick taking games having high cards is good. And there is like you want to have some high cards because you want to be able to play in tricks, but then you also want to have a multitude of lower cards because you want to be able to have at least a few of them or one of them left at the end because the player who wins the last trick gets all those cards in front of them. And then either when somebody has x amount of dogs, different dogs in front of them, they lose. after x amount of rounds, the player who has the most different will lose the game. I really like this one.
Yeah, I thought it was really interesting because you want to keep the highest cards and then you want to keep the really lowest and the middle ones are just like, ah, I hope I don't end up with this at the end because that might win me a trick and I really don't want that. And also, if you don't have like many of the same type, those middle cards might be hard to actually like stay in the trick with. Yeah. I feel like this was unique enough to go on the shelf with all of the other trick taking games.
Yes.
And it was it's very easy to learn. Like it's not one of those many of the weird trick taking games have like some weird rules and stuff like that. This is like a step up from a basic trick taking game but not it's very interesting without having too many different rules.
And it didn't feel too long either, but I'm bad at
and very nice. I think it was about half an hour which the box says which is a good amount of time.
Let's talk about another weird game.
Blancat.
Blanc cat. This is a time time game.
Every game plays in time. Uh but here you are trying to match the I will show it. Yeah, for show them because you're trying to match the pattern of your cat's blanket with the pattern that is the the thing that the Yes. So, and you're doing that with layers on top of each other. So you're you're just like when you see the pattern just like okay you're trying to fold this first and then you realize you should have folded those other ones first and you have to go all back and you're trying to be as fast as possible. It's the slowest person who gets points and you don't want the points.
It's very I love this kind of you don't usually do.
I love this one because I actually had a chance. You actually did because especially when you play with the hard mode it is pretty hard because then like you can't let's say this was the solution I can't win if I if if like
everything has to be tucked in some way. So then it is very much harder because you need to let's say this was the solution then I had to do a completely different thing because then another yellow one over under here needed to be on top so I could put this under it and
it is very like this is a great one if you want to like train your brain. Oh yes, a great brain teaser.
I really enjoyed this one. I think that there is a multitude of these games. And is this like different enough? I don't know.
I would say this is my favorite.
That makes sense.
Because I'm good at it. I don't know.
I I If you don't like these type of games, you're going to hate this. But if you do like it, it's a small little game, which is the same word, but just two different things for the same word. It's a small little tiny game with which is fun. Oh, it's my turn now. Next up, let's go to another not fun theme. This is Russian roulette. That's just the name. Like, it's not trying to hide what it is. It's Russian roulette. Uh, which as a party game is more fun than the real deal. This is a
pusher game with some like getting into your opponent's head. So, there is going to be a stack of of of ships. Uh, one of them is going to be the bang and the other is going to be click. And then without the special powers that you have, the game would be on my turn, I flip the top one. If it's a click, I'm fine. If it's a bang, I lose a life. But then, like, there's a couple of twists. The first twist is that if I lose a life, then I will choose where the bang goes into the pack. So then the other players will be like, "Oh, do do you put it on top?" Okay? Because when it's your turn, you can also use an ability, which is basically then losing a life instead of flipping the top one. So, you're trying to think like, okay, did he put it on top? Let's say it was Suna's turn and Suna was like, nah, Jo probably didn't do that. Oh, and you didn't. Oh, and had to think about these things, which I think is what makes this game work.
Yeah, we had a lot of fun playing this game. There's some different abilities and in the beginning I was just like but why would I flip one life then I lose a life and why is that worth the ability but sometimes me losing that life is better like
to try to get you down with me basically and when there's two lift you you just like reset all your all your abilities again and then it's more like a headto-head thing
and that doesn't because then other players will be out of the game but they will still be engaging seeing how it goes and it goes very quick. This for me is in the same category of the game Carnival of Sins that came out last year where I had no thought of it being any good.
Mhm.
And this one I read the rules I was like it doesn't sound that fun. And we played one I was like okay this this actually works. I have to say that Carnival of Sins is you can have more influence over your luck that like I'm actually doing thinking I'm actually doing like oh what you you're thinking much more than than this game. This is very much luck based with a little something. Um and and it's not kind of my game but I had fun. I had fun playing it.
But for me it's in the same kind of category because it is of the take that it is like of the oh no that happened. Oh yes, that happened. All of those things. I think because it's such a small game and the production is pretty good. Oh yeah.
I think this is one I want to to bring out again. And also it's one I can bring out to people who don't play any board games because you don't need to know anything really to be able to play this game.
Do you have another game?
I have another game.
I think we have two more games.
It's true.
Yes.
This is Brushwood.
Yes. Another one from Korea Board Games.
As I'm quoting you, a small little game.
It's it's the biggest one of this episode.
Well, this is a nice game. First of all, it's a nice theme, but you
What is the theme?
You're walking around in the brushwood.
Oh.
Looking at the birds and the animals.
Yes.
And collecting berries
and mushrooms.
And mushrooms.
Yes. What are you doing again?
Well, you you're deciding how far on like a rondelle trackish. you are moving and then you are taking the card that is there
and if there is berries on that card you will take them too
and then you will put that card into your tableau and you will then if you have enough mushrooms on your card in total you can get some points
at the end of the game you will score how depending on like how many birds are you can see with your binoculars and like multip multipliers and stuff and also there's a majorities in the berries. It's just like a nice card tablelo building game which is like just enough to make you care where your opponent moves because you're moving the same like piece.
Yes.
So, so that's just like I'm sitting there. Oh, I hope you don't move past that or I don't I hope you don't take the card that I want. It's a very straightforward, very light set collection game, but it also works very well. It is one of those that
as with many light games, this is like lighter than, for example, harmonies and and light games I really like. This is in the category of I would play it if somebody wanted to play it. I think that we might give this to the people we played it with because they liked it even more than us. and they are lighter gamers and then if they want to play with us I will play it again because this was pleasant because as you said there is just enough different types of set collection and different types of ways of getting points. You're kind of building your own scoring which is one of my favorite mechanisms and it is just enough for it to not be like I'm just going to take something and actually caring about what you get.
Yeah. At the same time, it has some like you have to be be
you have to be
there. There are some rules to be learned here. There is some like scorings to to understand. There's no there they're not complicated, but
it says eight plus. I think you can play with an eight.
Yeah, absolutely.
Maybe not with a dog.
Maybe not with a dog.
No, I would say no dogs and not in the shower. Next up, last one is extremes only. Another small upcoming release from Korea board games. This is from Casper Lap, which we know mostly from making Magic Maze. This is not Magic Maze. This is a party game, a word game. I don't like too many party games. That's maybe a lie. I don't like I just spoke to my friend Ryan Schlutz and he said he had like a hundred party games now,
which is too many and he agreed on that. Uh, it's not too many if you only play party games or if you love party games or if you're just like collecting party games, but you know what I mean. Uh,
but I I like this one. What you're doing is that you have these a category. You could just make it up like it's not like you, but you have cars. I like it in these kind of games that you you could basically just choose a category, but also it's fun to kind of challenge yourself with a category you get on a card. So you get a card with three categories. You choose one of them and then the other players depending on how many players you are will write either one or two things in that category and place them on the table. And then you have to rank them from your favorite or the best to the least favorite or the worst. And then knowing that information, the other players write another thing in that category and the goal is to have the best and the worst answers. So of course like you can you can go in so many different directions.
We we laughed more than I have done in a very long time playing this game. The thing is
I like this game so much because of that one experience we had.
If we play it again, I don't know if I'm going to get the same feeling because some games, for example, I have the first time I played the mind that you weren't in that game. That's why I liked it. No, you but I had such a fantastic experience playing the mind the first time
which is a weird little game. Check it out if you don't know it. It's It's not that good of a game, but it was a fun experience. And I we were so in sync. The three players, we played it. We played so well. And then after that, I never got that feeling again.
Yeah.
And that might be the thing happening with this game. This is a very group dependent. You need to have a group where you could just play it as like a very serious word game. But I think the fact that you can go out about and do the horrible ones makes it very interesting because I want to get points. So I want to try to make write good things but I also want to try to outbad the bad things already there.
It's interesting because you you are gamifying it also. Yeah. Um, at the in the beginning, I feel like it's very intuitive to start with the things that I I think fit that category. I I think that's what we usually did and then we see how that lands and just like, okay, but I'm actually very good at the top there.
Yeah.
Or the top is really good. I don't think I can beat it.
Let's figure out what's really not good in this situation. Let's talk like talk about the things that you don't want. And then I feel like it's more fun with a group that that like does that. Well, I don't know. It felt kind of like um Cards Against Humanity just like fun kind of.
Yeah. I think if you say that many people will think it's a different game that it is. It depends very much on what how you play your group and also what kind of things you write.
Yes.
Because you can write whatever you want
and also what categories you get. Yes,
I do think this is a very good one. I do think I actually really want to play it again, but I don't know if I will reach that. I don't know if it's like a forever party game before we play it a few more times and see if we get the same kind of feeling about it. Yep.
And those are six upcoming games that we just reviewed. We hope you enjoyed it. If you did enjoy it, you can
subscribe.
You can do it because it is
cool.
Yes. And also free.
Free.
It's it's very much free. And we're going to do a lot of these videos on spiel releases. We hope that you will enjoy them and hopefully we will see you in spiel. If you are going, we will be there. We will let you know where and when we are going to be there. But if you do see us, please show us the secret sign and come up and say hi. We would love to talk to you and we will see you there. Thank you so much for watching. I'm Johannes and you've been watching Board Gaming Ramblings. And bye-bye.
