Hello fellow viewers and welcome to the exciting opening ceremony of a new underwater theme park that is filled to the brim with attractions that will take you on a wild ride. Ryugu is a construction game where you'll be building a theme park based on the Ryugu Palace from the Japanese fairy tale Urashima Taro. As a construction contractor, you're going to be managing the 75 days leading up to the theme park's opening. You'll need to effectively control your workers and finances during this time. You'll need to plan advertising campaigns and build relationships with collaborators. You'll even engage in a pre-opening event which is going to happen during the middle of the game. Ryugu is a Japanese competitive strategy game that uses a special time track mechanism. The player who takes the current turn is the one that is furthest back on the time track.

The time track is also the victory point track which is found on the perimeter of the board. Every action that your workers take in this game is going to take up time. As you place workers out, you'll accrue time around the time track, meaning that the time up until your 75th day when your park opens is going to be slowly ticking away. So, it's a game about managing and using your workers' time efficiently. Take lots of big actions and you'll find that you'll get closer to 75 days much more quicker than you think. There is also some interesting worker placement interaction here. As players take up the different worker placement spaces, your workers don't stay on their spaces forever. When all the different worker placement spaces in a particular section is filled up, the last player to place their worker there takes the final action in that area and then all the workers go back to the players. The worker who triggers this gets a bonus.

It's almost like saying, "Hey everybody, we finished our work. It's time to go home." and thereby opening up those worker placement spaces again to everybody. Ultimately, what you're trying to do is place your colored base in one of the pie themed sectors on the main game board. Players have three different tiers of bases, bronze, silver, and gold. Players are also going to be building tiered attractions on the bases. You can build them on your own or on other players' bases. Whichever one is available. Then, as the game progresses, when you build the attractions, you'll also be placing lanterns out in those areas. Building an attraction also costs workers, time, and resources. So, you have to be ultra selective about the types of attractions you want to make. The attractions come in three different levels, and they offer you bonuses for constructing them as well. If you've already constructed a lower tiered building of the same color, it'll be cheaper for you to construct the higher building of the same color.

By paying the cost difference throughout the game, you'll earn interim victory points inside cards that have a pink bubble and end of game points inside cards that have gold bubbles. You'll also be fulfilling private goals, and the player to slingshot the furthest around the victory point track wins.
