Yumegari Dream Shop - Teach & Playthrough
Hi everyone, my name is Money >> and I'm Naveen from Before You Play >> and today we're gonna be doing a two-player playthrough of a game that is currently Kickstarter called Yumagari Dream Shop. >> Yes, this game is published by Lucky Duck Games who are helping sponsor this playthrough. Now, in this game, players are going to be taking on the roles of magical shop owners.
Our ultimate goal is to try to fill our shops with these beautiful artifacts, and whoever can do it the best is the winner. >> That's right. This is a lightweight tile drafting game for one to five players that plays in about 30 to 45 minutes in which players are going to be drafting artifacts of different types as well as different colors and arranging them on their shop boards in order to score for two different scoring cards that change from game to game.
And so today, as usual, we are going to start with a tea to the game and go straight into a two-player playthrough. If you'd like to jump around, we'll include timestamps in the description below. >> We have to mention, of course, this is a prototype copy of the game, so things are subject to change in the future.

So, if you please direct your attention to the center of the table, we're all set up here for a two-player game of Umagari Dream Shop.
Welcome to our shop. >> Shops. >> And so, like we're mentioning in this game, players are magical shop owners. And so, each player has their own player board, which represents our shop. And each player board is actually double-sided. There's the A side, which is recommended for your first-time play, and then there's the B side, which is what we have here, which has these different walls, and you can choose which side to play on as long as all players use the same side.
Now, in this game, artifacts come in four different types, as well as four different colors. And each time you play the game, you'll randomly choose two different scoring cards. And these will dictate the way your artifacts score at the end of the game. >> Yes. And the game actually comes with several of these.
Uh, and they're double-sided, so you always play with one that's side A and then one that is side B. >> And so for our gameplay today, for the A card, it says, for each color, choose the biggest group of orthogonally adjacent tiles, and you gain two points per tile in that group. As for our Bcoring card, it says here, gain five points for each column and row, where the tiles adjacent to the edges of the board have the same item.
>> Yeah. So, we have to be really mindful about the border of our shop. >> Yes. That's where it's going to get tricky because we're not only going to want to group the same colors together, we also want the same types of items along the edge of the board on opposite sides of a row or column. Now, the way the game works is this is a tile drafting game.
And so, the way in which you draft these tiles is going to work differently depending on if you are playing a three to five player game or if you're playing a two-player only game. In higher player counts, the game is played over the course of four rounds. And each round, players are going to have a hand of six tiles, and we're going to be drafting a total of six tiles per round.
In a two-player game, we'll have 24 stacks of three tiles each, which is what we see here. And instead of there being four rounds, there'll be a total of 24 turns where each player will get to draft one tile from each of these stacks. Then, regardless of player count, once all players have drafted a tile, you'll simultaneously place your tile on your shop board.
And so each player is represented by a familiar which starts the game on the very center space of their board as well as a starting artifact which will draw randomly from the supply during setup. Now your familiar token actually dictates where you get to place your drafted tile. So before placing you can optionally move your familiar token to an adjacent orthogonal space.
And if you'd like to continue moving your familiar further, you can spend paw tokens for each additional space you'd like to move. And you can spend as many paw tokens as you'd like. And so as an example, if I drafted this tile and I'd really like to place it here, then I first move my familiar one space for free.
And then I can spend a pot token because each player will start the game with one to move my familiar an additional space. Then wherever I end up is where I get to place my tile. Just like that. >> And since we're playing with the B side, the little bit more advanced side of the board, uh we actually have walls in our shop.
So, we are not allowed to move across these. Uh, the traditional walking, you have to go all the way around. >> Then, once you've placed your tile, if you covered up a space that contains a symbol or a color with a tile of that color or symbol, just like in this example, I have covered it with the same type of artifact.
Yep. Then you actually gain the reward of that space, which in this example is going to be two victory points. And in this game, victory points are represented by star tokens, which we have offcreen. In addition, some tiles such as this one also give you rewards just for placing it. So, because I placed this tile, I would also gain a paw print token from the supply.
>> And again, paw prints are how you move further in this game. >> Yes. Now, other things to note is when moving your familiar around the board, you also have these portals that line the walls and they are color-coded. Familiar tokens can move through one portal and come out the other side of the matching colored portal.
>> And when doing that, it's one movement point to go through the portal. In addition, you are allowed to overbuild on a pre-existing tile, but just keep in mind that we are only going to be drafting a total of 25 tiles, including our start tile throughout the game. So, if ever you choose to overbuild on a tile, that tile will get discarded out of the game, and you will have one fewer tile on your board.
>> Mhm. Also, if Mo'Nique was to try to replace this tile in the future, she would not get the benefit that's preprinted on the board. >> Right. And the last thing is instead of placing a tile that you've drafted on your board, you can always just choose to discard it out of the game, gaining one paw print token from the supply.
But that's essentially it. As soon as all players have moved their familiars and place their tiles, then in higher player counts, you'll pass the rest of your hand to the player to your left, and you'll continue drafting and passing until all players have drafted a total of six tiles. In rounds one and three, you pass to your left, and in rounds two and four, you pass to your right.
In a two-player game, we basically just continue taking turns going through all 24 stacks until all players have exhausted all of the stacks. Then the game ends and we basically score points for both of our scoring cards and add the rest of our scoring tiles that we've collected throughout the game to our scores.
And at that point, whoever has the most points wins. And that's essentially how you play Yumigari Dream Shop. Otherwise, I think we are ready to begin. Are you ready? >> Let's do it. Okay. Now, it doesn't truly matter because first player alternates in a two-player game. So, >> you do get first dibs on these first tiles.
>> That is true. Now, if you did not join us for the teach, or if you just like a friendly reminder, our two scoring cards are our A card that says, "For each color, choose the biggest group of orthogonally adjacent tiles and gain two points per tile in that group." >> Mhm. >> And our B card says, "Gain five points for each column and row where the tiles adjacent to the edges of the board have the same item." So, we want to have like book and book.
>> Yep. >> Right. >> Exactly. >> Or goblet and goblet. >> Yep. So, it's probably not going to be super simple because we are playing with the B sides of our board, the advanced sides, and these have walls. So, our familiar cannot walk through those lines. >> I think that using the portals will be very important for this particular aspect >> probably.
>> And also keep in mind that our boards are asymmetric. So, like uh the benefits that we have are printed are technically in the same spots, but they're randomized. Yes. Also, our walls are in different places. >> Right. All right. So, shall we begin? >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay. So, we have 24 stacks here cuz it's a total of 24 turns in a two-player game.

>> That is true. All right. So, these are our three options. And so, the way that this is going to work is because I'm first player, I'm going to get to choose one. Yes. >> Then Naveen will choose one. and the third one gets discarded. And then technically we can both simultaneously place our tiles on our board.
We're going to take turns just to make it easier. >> By the way, there's actually more tiles than what's presented here. We have a bunch that are off uh and out of the game, >> right? So, we cannot tile count anything. All right. Well, this selection is actually really good for the both of us because your starting tile is blue.
What is your What's your artifact? >> Oh, my artifact's a book right now. >> Oh, it's a book. Okay. My artifact is that goblet. >> It's like a cocktail. >> It is. cocktail shine for me because bonus here is for placing a white tile and this one is for placing that specific symbol. >> By the way, this is random what we got here.
It just so happens that my blue is next to my blue and Mon'nique's white is next to my white. This could have very well been green or red. >> Yeah, I didn't even I didn't even notice that. >> Yeah. >> So, okay. So, I think I'm definitely taking this. I will need to think about where to place it. So, I'll take this.

So, again, before placing your tile, you can move your familiar up to one space orthogonally for free. So, I'm going to go one, >> three, >> and then you can spend pod tokens to move even further. So, I'm going to spend one pot token to move down this way. And I will place my tile right there. So, because it is white, I gain two pot tokens back.
>> So, you only spent one or like you netted one plus. Yes. >> And then I will uh place this there. Now, the tile itself also gains me a reward, which is a point. Is this a tile? And then you didn't do it. >> There's absolutely no way for us to trace and be like, "Yes, it would have worked out this." >> I know.
But that's why it's so hard to know if something live in the now. >> You saw the lesson. >> Okay. Okay. But you saw that how important the having pause at the end was having. I felt like, you know, I don't know, like like maybe I shouldn't blow three of these to get to just one little notch, find myself in the corner, and try to figure my way out.

Now again, this game plays one to five players. If you did not join us for the teach, in a three to five player game, players will each have six tiles in their hand per round.
You'll you'll draft a tile, simultaneously, place it, and then pass the rest of your hand to the left or the right depending on the round. And it's still the same. You'll draft a total of 24 tiles over the course of the entire game. Except the difference is you're playing four rounds basically. And it's a simultaneous draft style.
>> Yeah. So like in a three-player game, you know, the ones that you pass, some of them will come back around to you, >> right? And again, there are two sides to the boards. We are playing the B side. So that's why there are these walls. You do not have to play with them. The aside still has these bonus spaces that you have to keep in mind.
It's just that you don't have the restriction of the walls. And as you could probably tell, >> you felt it. >> Yeah, they're they're more restrictive than they seem. >> If you don't have enough paws and you get stuck in a corner with the wall, like you're going to be overbuilding or tossing tiles, >> right?
There is also a solo mode, and the game comes with several of these scoring cards. The a sides are all having to do with the colors of the tiles, and the B sides have to do with the types. So, as an example, if we had flipped this over, then this one says, "For each item, choose the biggest group of orthogonally adjacent tiles and then gain two points per tile in that group." So, it's the same thing.
It just has to do with the item type. >> Other cards include scoring criteria such as gain two points for each tile diagonally adjacent to another tile of the same color. Yeah. >> Or we have the B side of this card that says for each group of two or more orthogonally adjacent items, you gain five points.
So, there's a wide variety of combinations because each time you play the game, you'll randomly choose two and you'll play with one aside and one B side >> and it really dictates what you're drafting in every specific moment basically where your um your character is.
