People often ask me, "What's a board game I can play with my kid and not be incredibly bored?" Which I get. Shoots and Ladders pretty boring if you're over the age of 10. Well, I've got a suggestion for you and it's called Genius Square. I actually ran tournaments of this game at the Chicago Toy and Game Fair and we had all ages participate in the tournament. I was a little worried parents were just going to cream their kids, but the person who finished in first place was eight years old. It was awesome. This really is a game that works for all ages. It's more about what kind of brain you have than how old you are. To play the game, you roll a bunch of dice and then add blockers to your board in the specific grid points shown on the dice. Then it's a race to figure out the puzzle and get all of your pieces onto your board. And it is not an easy puzzle. If you want to make it even harder, you can flip some pieces to their white side. and white-sided pieces can't touch each other. A round of Genius Square takes less than 5 minutes, and it's pretty addicting. I'm always playing a third, fourth, fifth game. It's fun to roll the dice again and try to figure out the next puzzle.
