Transcript
Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the discriminating gamer. You know, my friends and I argued all day about what the proper name for a medieval soldier was, but it was getting late, so we called it a night. Ladies and gentlemen, today we're going to go ahead and take a look at Carcazone Big Box from Hanzlook and Zman Games.

All
right, ladies and gentlemen, Carcazone Big Box. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this one. Carcazone has been out for 25 years. I'm not going to tell you how to play the game. Uh, if you haven't, you should. It's great. Uh, I really, really like Carcazone. tile placement game. Uh where of course you are trying to connect roads and cities and other geographic features. Uh but what is interesting here about this big box edition is it has 11 expansions within it. Now I'll tell you right now, I've only played the base game and I played it with the river expansion, just one of the expansions. Uh I'm I'm eager to play some of the other expansions and maybe I'll report on those uh more later, but I just wanted to talk basically about Carcassone and kind of this addition. Uh Carcasson itself is always a beautiful game. It's such a a beautiful game to see evolve on the table and it's a fun game. It's an interesting game as you are trying to place your your meeples to score points on the board for those roads, for those cities, for the the abbotts and the and the uh farms. It's it's just a very fun game and like I say, it's been around for 25 years. If you haven't had a chance to play it, seek it out, play it.
It is a lot of fun. Now, this expansion is or this game rather, as I say, does come with 11 expansions, which is awesome. It's got, I think, all of them in here. But this box is ginormous. It is a huge freaking box. And it didn't need to be this big. It really didn't. There's a lot of negative space in this box. Um I I think this this easily could have been half the size it is and still fit everything in it. So I'm not a big fan of that, especially when games take up a lot of retail space. That is to say, a lot of real estate space on my shelf. Uh I'm always looking for for for boxes that can fit things efficiently, and this one just doesn't do it. It is. This reminds me of like when they came out with uh uh the reprint of uh Come on reprint of Sheriff of Nodingham and like you just got some cards and a few little things and it came out with this ginormous box and they subsequently came back and made a smaller box. I feel like this big box that's the problem. It's too big a box. Now I really enjoy Carcassone. I've enjoyed playing with the River expansion. Looking forward to playing with some of the other expansions. I played it um with my friends and then recently again I played it with my wife and my stepdaughter and they fell in love with it. My stepdaughter said it's probably one of her top 10 games of all time now after she played it.
And I'm looking forward, as I say, playing some of these other expansions. I owned Carcassone. I bought Carcassone 10, 15 years ago, and I really enjoyed it. And somewhere along the line, I got rid of it. And it's one of those games I always kind of regretted because I I always had fun with it. I always liked it. But I always liked too, it wasn't a very big box. So, I've got this debate. Um, maybe I'll keep the game, but just put it all into a more manageable box. I don't know if I can find a way to to keep everything separated. I I may do that. Uh, I I just I like the game and I'm excited about the expansions, but man, so much negative space in here. I just don't know what they were thinking. I think they wanted to sell the box. Any event, I love the game.
less excited about this particular um edition because of the storage. Torn on it, I should say, because I am excited about learning the other expansions. So, for right now, for what it's worth, you can take this review, not as a full not as a this video, not as a full review, but as an impressions video, although I do love the base game, and I do like the Rivers expansion quite a bit. Uh so, on the Cody Scale, this edition, I'm going to give a seven. I really like the game. I really like the the idea of playing with all these expansions and having them right there, but man alive, if this had been a more economical box, this would probably be a nine for me.
