Davos Gameplay - Do You Want To Control The World?

Hey, I'm Alex Wack from Board Gameco.
I'm Professor Me.
And today we are playing through Davos from Marty Games. If controlling the world is your thing, if influencing the halls of power, if taking skate stakes and corporations and uh controlling big farmers so that you can do good, I mean make money, uh then this might be your game. This is a prototype, all rules and components of exchange. We'll have a link to the crowdfunding campaign down below. And uh we're going to go ahead and play through three rounds of Davos. We are playing the regular game of Davos, the mean game, and the big game. There's a bunch of variants. We're playing all of it together kind of over here.
A mean game,
even if there's no mean game.
In the game, the basic idea is we are going to be playing through three rounds of play. In each round, what we're going to be doing is we're going to be taking our assets, which I realized I forgot to take mine back over here. We're going to be taking our assets over here and investing them into the various corporations in play as well as into the various political parties in order to vote on the various bills in order to influence things the way we want them to be. For example, if I am someone that's invested in big pharma, I want the bills that will help pay out to big pharma. Meanwhile, this tool over here is going to vote in ways that bankrupt big farmer because he wants me to lose assets and all that. So, that's the basic idea of what we're doing as we play. You'll be able to see it more as we go. The first round comes through pretty pretty quickly. So, you'll see how it plays out as we escalate and just how much uh well, everything we have in the game. But effectively, you're going to go through an action phase where you take your various investments and again invest them into political parties and corporations. Then we'll go through a voting phase. Well, technically we have a control phase where you can play your control cards. Then we go into the voting phase where we try to influence the halls of power. And then we go ahead and reset and do that two more times.
Now, meanwhile, one of the things you're going to be doing, in fact, the biggest thing is we have our personal goal cards. These are goal cards that define what it is we are trying to achieve because that's the only way you score points in the game. The reason you're doing all this other stuff is because it helps you gain the influence you need to achieve your goals. Your goals might be having the most influence in various regions of the world. in America, Europe, the global south or China, various political parties or alternatively in various corporations. Your goals tell you what you're going for and you're trying to achieve your goals. With that said, I think we're going to go ahead and start things off. Have we decided to start a player? I don't think we have.

We're going to go ahead and start taking our first action.
Very convenient. ALEX AP is going to be taking the first turn. Uh, and he's going to go ahead and take the actions. The core actions you need to know is we can take a new corporation, put it out and invest in it. You can take your assets and put them into existing corporations on the board. You can put your assets into political parties or you can go ahead and buy a new goal. That's one of the things you can do. You're going to get a goal each round, but you can also pay two of your assets in order to go ahead and get a new goal. And lastly, you can get a control card. These are going to have a variety of effects, but they also require you to have certain restrictions before you can play them. So, you might not see them come into play as much in the first round. To you, sir.

Oh, cutting in on me's territory cuz we all have various characters who want specific uh specific they'll give you specific payouts if you are the most in that corporation. So right now in uh BS universal uh AP is currently the uh primary stakeholder in that company which means if this were to play out right now if this goal does resolve which somebody would have to vote for in the voting phase in the political phase this is going to pay out three assets to whoever is the largest stakeholder one asset to subsequent stakeholders and then one asset to the largest stakeholders in other regions such as this zone over here. AP is trying to position himself but he also has to vote for it and until that happens he has no real control. Oh, my turn. My turn. I'm so busy talking about things. Um, I think I think that I want to do some stuff. I think that the stuff that I do will be to go ahead and take I'm going to take this top card over here

Yeah, because right now, just so you know as the viewer, uh right now I get to decide this passes because I'm the only one voting. So I could say, "Hey, no one's getting any money this round." How much? Well,

And then I'm going to take two in my own color. 83. Yep. I got some of that asset payout over there. That is this one. We are done. We can move to the next card. Over here we have trap and treasures trade treaties which is going to resolve because the neutral player always votes for their own party over here. So this one over here is going to vote for a central bill which means this passes and anyone who is the largest in a company anywhere except for here is going to get a payout. Uh, then we get to set sugary sweet safety standards,
which is basically going to go ahead and pay out Meg at three over here. Uh, no one's going to get anything over here. Meg's going to be the only person getting payout, right?

That's basically that, which means now we can go ahead and evaluate if you've achieved any of your goals. If you have, you can play your card and show, look, I've achieved a goal. You also don't have to because it will reduce your income. Are you holding it to play it?

Go ahead. So, you sir want to be uh at least the biggest in one company in America, which you are, and biggest in one company. That worked out very nicely for your big media play.
No, anything that went big media rather than food. Yep, that makes sense. So, you're going to get this goal. This goal is going to be worth a point for having achieved the goal, but it's also worth a point for having one of the goal categories. Now, one thing uh that I don't believe I told you guys, uh when you pay two money to buy a new goal, you can either buy a new goal or even discard a goal as well. Basically, you can add a goal or swap a goal. That's important because goals you don't achieve are worth negative points. Anyways, that is that which means now I think we go to setting up the next round.

So, you are the largest in this corporation and you're largest in one of those. So, you are again
that's why I did that weird.
Yeah. Now, these will No, you don't get the star yet. You got star in round two. The goal the goal card itself is a is a point, but if you maintain the goal in subsequent rounds, although players now see what you're going for and might bite you, that changes things. Uh, we are now going to go ahead and set up, which means we're going to do a few things. First of all, players get five assets minus Oh, no. I li I lied. We also get goals for our we rewarded for our specialties which means I am uh ahead over here. So I get two assets. I think you guys focus on your goals instead of being in charge of your corporation. So you guys get nothing, right?

Okay. Um but then all with all that, did I only get six after all that? Oh, you got all these.

Correct. Then we all take five minus however many uh goals you've achieved. So uh in this case, I'll get five and those will both get four.

This is where I might need the rule book to go ahead and look at the new abilities. But, we're going to go ahead and have new go new, uh, control cards coming out, uh, which I will need the rule book for because I do not know all of these offh hand. But, we have these new abilities for the next round. And then we're going to put out new corporations, new new bills effectively, are going to come out, which is going to result in more dissonance being played out as well. So over here we're going to place one down the left party and one down the left corporation if there were. Uh then over here we have this is going to be kick off crypto crypto kingdom which doesn't seem like has any party.
This is going to be voting for or against. Okay, it's going to be a slightly different kind of goal. Uh then we have over here trump up tariffs. We're going to place uh a right dissident party as well as a right corporation. And then lastly over here we have pursue perpetual peace which means we're going to have a left corporation and nothing on the left party because there is no left party for control cards. We'll do a quick run of the control cards. Oh, Meg, can you pass everyone a uh goal card because everyone will get a new goal card uh from the top left deck. Just not the top one. Just draw from underneath the top. Uh over here we're going to have infiltrate. Move any number of one players assets from one corporation to one party.
Okay. But you have to be the highest in in in one of these sectors which currently AP is.
Over here we have cozy ties. Cozy ties is going to be uh move any number of one players assets from one party to any one corp. So basically the reverse of these two. These actually swap each other nicely. Over here flee is going to allow you to swap two placed corporations and moving any assets move with them. Okay. Uh it's going to help them swap from region to region to help you out. And then lastly we have fuse over there. Move all assets from one party to another. And with that, we are ready to go ahead uh and go ahead and continue. I believe AP, you'll start us off.

You can have more than one. When the control phase, you you're only going to play them between the control phase after we're done with actions and starting from the first player taking one at a time until players pass. You can play a card.
And what is that one?
This one lets you swap two corporations. It's helpful for swapping the place on the board.
You swap the actual card.
You fully swap the cards and all assets on them. It's helpful for again that the part places that reward you or penalize you for certain things.

Uh the the largest party gets one and a half votes. You would just But if you have the most, you control the largest party.
So right now I they would be influenced by my vote.
Yes. If you go there with two, you would basically if you put two there, you would control the largest party.

All right. Which means you can choose whether this vote passes or fails.

This is one of the few thingies that is not party adjacent. There's only a few cards in the deck. I think it might be one card that does that. So, you would have to control for that. Okay. So, you're now the largest party. Interesting.
Interesting. This such an interesting puzzle here. The question is AP has too many assets. Um I will go ahead and I will How do I have too many assets? you you just have too many assets coming your way. That's all. It's just a thing. It's just a big thing to be aware of. Um I will go ahead and pay two in order to buy the top card of the deck.

My goals will be revealed. The new goal is currently that's one with a lot. Master of the world is going to give you three different symbols for uh you know extra points in the game. You have to have one in all four of those corporations. Be the largest in one of those corporations of all four.

But nonetheless, okay, that is that which means now we go to collecting for your personal incomes. So, if you have any control, you get one. So, go ahead and take one.

Uh, and then we do goals. Goals before our thingies. So, goalwise, I have to check if I still have it.
