I make no bones about it and you've heard me say it a million times on this channel that GMT GMT is one of the greatest companies on the face of the good Lord's earth. And uh they did it again. Uh Infernal Machine, Dawn of the of Submarine Warfare. Let's open this up. I want to talk a little bit about this and uh we'll get some of my thoughts on the other side of taking a look at another great game from our good friends at GMT. Let's go down the table and check it out. So, we're going to take a look at what comes in the box. I'm going to explain a few things. Not too many things, but but enough to get you a feel for it. Okay, I've actually taken it out of the box.
So, we're just going to move this box aside. Of course, you're going to get your three set 10-sided dice. Uh you're going to have these blocks here. The these are going to be part of your fate. The black and the red, the green are going to be able to mark off certain things on certain uh cards and areas and things like that. So, you can keep track of certain things. Um you're going to get your uh component. As you can see, it's going to show you all your different components. And the nice thing about this, I'm going to come back to is you have your tactical, your gauge board, and then your mission board. We'll talk about that in in a bit and how this really works out. Um, the pieces that you're going to need for your tactical board, you're going to have to put a sticker on. What's nice is they give you an extra sticker for it, uh, which is fantastic. Uh, your sequence of play for the mission. Well, we'll get back to that. your campaign setup. Um the different types of subs that you could possibly use from back then. There wasn't very many. The Pioneer uh on the other side the David.
Um you have the Hunley and then the USS Alligator. Love that one. Uh these section boards come out. The these are going to go onto your uh your um they pop in and out of course. And then you're going to have your different uh types of ships. And I'm going to show you that in a second as well as you will have your um your funding board and all that other stuff here, your USS Ga, your US gauge, your tactical board. Now, your tactical board, and this is where I I I think I'll stop for a second. This is where you're going to start. And the one thing that I really like about this, and I'm going to pull some things out, is you have your scenarios and everything that you need to go through and to do an entire campaign. Um, but what's nice about this is the introduction and how it's broken up into three parts. Okay? And this helps you learn this pretty quickly.
Your first part is going to be learning the tactical aspect of this and you're only going to use this particular board. Okay? So, uh, for instance, uh, your sloop is going to be here because that's what you're going to be tracking. And what you're going to be doing is hunting it down. It's going to teach you all those different little variances on on how you're going to go from here and close in and take down that sloop. Okay. um and your detonation tables and your detection tables and every everything else that that really uh fits into this and it does a great job of just breaking down this particular part because you need to learn this part because it teaches you in in three different parts which is really cool. The next part would be the uh missions um uh board which uh I just about had there. Um, and that is how you are going to go. You're going to have your mission board, and that's a whole different thing. Working your way to certain areas, which will work you into your tactical once you get to that area and you deal with certain things. And then finally, your c all the rules come together and build how you're going to play a campaign. Um, there is a lot to this and I'm still trying to absorb a lot. Um, it's really neat on on how the sections work and how you're going to repair certain sections and that that'll come in your on your
mission board. Um, and a lot of different other things that really come into this that are just really really interesting for that day and age. Then, like I said, your scenarios, um, your encyclopedia, uh, your glosseries on how things work, your alamac, um, which you're going to be referencing here and there. You've got plenty of cards, um, sailors that that you're actually going to have and use and stuff like that. And of course, investors. And of course, you know, with every GMT game, it it gives you such a nice breakdown of how to do things. Actions are explained. You know, your your your cheat sheets here are always just fantastic and how they they go, as well as, you know, what your complete tactical setup, sequence of play, how you're going to go about it.
um uh your mission setup, which we were talking about. That's going to be the second part that you're going to learn uh how enemies respond to you. And then, of course, um the sequence of play for that. And then into the third section, like I said, which is your campaign section. Um done beautifully. Uh very detailed. And it is a game that, you know, I I say this often, but it really really fits this particular game. What you put into it is what you're going to get out of this fantastic game. This is very smart and is has a pretty good learning curve. So, you're going to want to stick stick with that tactical. Do it two or three times. Then go to the mission board. do that two or three times before you do section uh three.
So, um I'm in the middle of doing uh section two and trying to get that uh down now. And um I'm finding that everything I'm doing with this is just very interesting, well put together, well explained in that rule book, the the rule book you're going to grab me and go, "Oh my god, I'm going to be here for life." Nah, it goes it it really is done very well and beautifully illustrated and while there's a lot of information to take in, it keeps it where you don't get overwhelmed. And that, my friend, is is a very big big component. So, we're going to go back up top. We're going to talk more about the Infernal Machines, the Dawn of Submarine Warfare, because this is one that I really think you should have in your collection.
The thing I really love about this is this really goes into depth and the way you learn this game is by sectionally playing uh certain sections and it all comes together. So you can kind of formulate uh playing the scenarios and and basically the campaign. It starts off nice and slow and you know with attacking that sloop uh on that uh tactical board and it keeps you right there and then adds the other stuff as you go along. Um it's it's it's it's a it's deep. It takes a bit. Um, I'm still struggling with with some of the things. And I mean by struggling is trying to keep everything in a good flow because I always have problems reading the rules. But from from what I'm getting out of this and what I'm feeling from it, um, it really is interesting um to to to kind of at the dawn of submarine age to to to kind of come with a game like this. I mean, we have Hunters, we have Atlantic Chase, The Hunted, you know, I can go on and on and on with all the fantastic uh um and great games that have come out for uh about submarines. This just adds another dynamic to it and is it's it's really interesting as well as fun. Uh uh
definitely for anybody that is a war gamer or just enjoy solo games on itself, the Infernal Machine, the Dawn of Submarine Warfare from our good friends at GMT. A musthave for your collection. Until next time, it's your old power up. We'll see you soon, everybody.
