Quotes (from this video)
  • And the excitement in the house is absolutely through the roof.
  • Being an old school guy like myself, being able to take a look at this thing is truly truly incredible and it is the future.
  • The future because it's done right with incredible passion.
  • This isn't staged footage. Um they are just problem solving together.
  • And isn't that what it's all about? Just just so much fun and just enjoying themselves.
  • I'm blown away and I'm a fan for life.
  • As the CEO to to put so much effort into this incredible board. This really blows away a lot of things.
  • So, we have some incredible human beings out there in the world that have imagination and passion and love that that if they get behind this are going to be creating incredible games.
  • The machine comes with 64 gigs.
  • And I am 100% behind this.
  • I guarantee you you and your family will get more use out of this than you ever will for for some dungeon crawl or some one-time Kickstarter that you're not sure if it's going to be good or not.
  • I try to tell you as honest as I can, and I am telling you I am 100% behind the board.
  • This takes all of that away. You plug it in, you you put the pieces on, you do a little tutorial, you don't have to explain everything, it's fun, and you are off and running with the family, okay?
  • And that is the thing I think that shocked me the most.
  • This thing is beautiful.

Pros
  • Innovative use of 18 double-sided cards that yield 72 possible halves for combinations, increasing replayability within a tiny deck
  • Direct player interaction via shared cards and opposing orientation creates tension and strategic depth
  • Clear tiered progression from monsters to mortals to heroes to gods with tangible benefits and costs
  • Compact component set and a quick play cycle make it accessible for two players and casual table sessions
Cons
  • Learning curve is non-traditional; players must grasp the orientation mechanic and the implications of upgrades
  • Rule clarity hinges on understanding the ongoing state of each card across the discard and draw cycles
  • Thematically abstract design may not appeal to players seeking a strongly thematic experience
  • Availability is tied to Kickstarter; potential buyers must wait for funding outcomes
Thematic elements
  • divine ascent and mythic roles (monster, mortal, hero, god)
  • Ancient Greece / Olympus myth
  • dual-sided card orientation; upgrade/downgrade progression treated as narrative evolution

Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Deck Building — A compact 18-card deck where each card has two sides; you influence your options by which side is facing you.
  • deck-building — A compact 18-card deck where each card has two sides; you influence your options by which side is facing you.
  • draw pile awareness — Excess tribute can be spent to view the draw pile, granting foresight for planning the next turn.
  • end-condition and scoring pace — Players race to ten points; upgrades and acquisitions convert resources into points, incentivizing a dynamic tempo.
  • flip-to-transform progression — Drachmas flip mortals to gods by turning the card; the reveal changes the scoring and interaction dynamics.
  • monster/hero/god cycle — A card can cycle through states (monster → mortal → hero → god), with each state offering different scoring potential.
  • Resource Management — Three resources (tribute, drachmas, victory points) are used to upgrade cards and progress toward the win condition.
  • shared-card orientation — Cards are effectively shared between players; the side facing you is your hand while the opposite side belongs to the opponent.
  • two-resource economy — Three resources (tribute, drachmas, victory points) are used to upgrade cards and progress toward the win condition.
  • upgrade/downgrade with opposing effects — Upgrading a card benefits yourself but inherently imposes a negative effect on the opponent; downgrades work similarly in reverse.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Cards of Olympus is the two-player 18 card deck-building game
  • it's not complex just a clever way to make a small deck builder card game
  • there really are 72 different sides to mix a match
  • the orientation will stay the same so if you made a card to God then it will come back out as a god until your opponent slays their monster
