Hey everybody, it's Joel Palumbo. A game I've been wanting to play and I missed out on the first two um the first two printings of it was Ice Farian Guard. I heard

[clears throat]

pretty decent things about it, but I wanted to make a judgment for myself. And of course, I have not been able to get that. Well, Sky Kingdom, which is the company that makes it, also made another game and I was completely enthralled with it because it's called Waste of Parts, okay? We are going to take a look at this and this is like a hidden gem masterpiece. Even though I want that Guard game. Boy, I'm liking what they do here. And if it's if if if the quality and gameplay is anything like this for the Guard, boy, they're both going to be instant classics for me. Let's go down and take a look at this. I'm going to explain what's going on and then we'll come back and give my final thoughts.

All right, so we're going to take a look at a real masterpiece here. This mat here, this is a neoprene mat. You get this separately, but in the game comes cardboard map and a cardboard enemy map as well. I'm using the neoprene maps. We're going to talk about a few things and then I'm going to show you everything as we go. You're going to have a pile of cards here. These are salvage cards. They are going to help you. They're going to have different room upgrades. They're going to have weapons. [clears throat] As you can see, this weapon is going to give you three two additional dice in order to shoot. So you're going to want to get as much scrap as you can. And as you can see, you have it you start with a couple scrap cards. Uh when you're setting up, there'll be some token cards that'll replace uh some of the cards uh um that um you'll pull out of the scrap thing. You could play with bosses, but I don't suggest that until after you play for a while. So, always put these aside uh to start the game. This is the heartbeat of your mech, okay? And the whole story is is that you're crossing the wastelands and trying to get to the sanctuary, and you've got to do that in 35 uh 35 um miles, basically. And you you move for move movement, you'll move as you develop and and take care of your engines, which I'll show you in a bit.

Over here is the noise level. As you can see here, there uh it's set at four. Uh depends on how many players you're playing with. If you're playing with three, you're going to add one more four, so that's how many enemies you are going to draw. Here is your hull of the um mech, and as it takes damage, it's going to close down. If it ever gets to zero, you lose the game. If you lose your characters, you lose the game. Now, right here we have the enemy deck, okay? This is a a level one, and you can tell by the top uh corner here. It'll be a Got the wrong uh well, those are some There we go. An enemy. A just a win. Just a win, you're going to be be drawing a couple uh a card, so depending on noise. But you can get one of these just a win cards, which is discard, it has no effect. Which is really nice, but most of the time you're going to run into things, and they're going to have some stats on them, okay? Number one, how much health they have. Number two, how many dice they roll. And where they show up on the mech, and I'll show you that. There's also this chart here, which I'm going to move this chart here, cuz there's a lot to show you, and I actually have to physically do this.

This will will show up in area four, so you have this map here where you can keep track of where everything is, and you move it as things move. But, they're moving in the mech because you are going to have these beautiful acrylic standees, which represent your heroes, uh your crew, and the the creatures that are trying to uh stop you from getting to the sanctuary. Now, as I was saying, you have the enemy deck, but you as you progress on this, you can see there's a little gray area here and here. Okay? And as you get there, you're going to go to level two, and then level three, which is just going to make things even harder than they need to be.

With that said, okay, you have your crew. And as you can see, you have these tremendous dials here. And they are going to start, so your health will start at three. Okay? Uh for this, your attack. Okay? This is how many dice you roll. You're going to roll one die. And how many actions you can take. The yellow is always your starting stat. It can go up and down depending on cards and salvage that you get out of here. You have two abilities. You're going to pick one at the beginning of the game, and this is the character that you're going to be using as you go through. And there are a bunch of different characters, the which are really really really cool. You'll have an acrylic standee for each of them. I I don't have the stands cuz I want you to see them.

You'll have the brute, uh the artificial. That one's real cool. I'm going to have to play with that one. The doctor. The gambler, which has a special die, which I did not show you, but will show you dice in a minute. The firefighter, he's really key because as they set these rooms on fire, that's the thing that's going to damage your hull. And of course, the shepherd. And you can play with any combination of these, okay? But, remember the more you play with, the more you could play with a bunch of people or you can play with yourself with as many characters as as you would like. A real cool thing is these as you can see, the mech itself, okay? And when I told you that we drew a certain room, well, they would go up in that room and that's where you'd be. This is the outside, so the aft and the fore I I forgot what they call it, but either one is different rooms. These are general rooms, but you have this room right here, which is really important.

If you have somebody in that room for an entire term, then you are going to be able to draw a certain amount of cards and that is going to help you and you can either use them, like I said, you can attach a gun or you can get um one man's trash, which is scrap, which will add two to your scrap pile cuz you're going to spend these to get additional scrap cards. And the scrap cards are going to really help you cuz there's different weapons, there's rooms that there's upgrades to the rooms that are going to help you. Sometimes they cause more noise, which means more enemies will come, but they do more. Um and like this one here really helps your engines, okay?

Here they're a way to upgrade your engines, okay, so you can move faster. And and you want to get that dial moving as much as you can. So, there are certain cards that are going to help that as well. Now, going on explaining the different rooms and everything like that, these are general rooms and you can upgrade them and do certain things. But, this is really important, the cockpit your because you can do new numerous things, you have to have the cockpit going in order to run the engines. And as you can see, there is an engine symbol here. Okay, right on each one and you'll be able to upgrade these rooms, too. You've got to keep these rooms from being on fire or inoperable or else you can't move. And that is a big problem. There's all kinds of different rooms that'll do different things.

But, what the monsters are trying to do is set all this ablaze. And how they do it is they start by making it inoperable, which makes it blacked out. And then on top of that, it gets a fire a fire token. And once it is on fire, you've got to be able to stop that because at the end of every turn, every room that is on fire is going to take away from your hull. And you don't want that. Combat is very very very simple. If you're in in the same room as a creature, okay, you're going to roll dice. And on from one to two and I believe it's one and two is misses and then three, four, five, and six are hits. So, for instance, here, this may have one health and depending on how many attacks you have, if you have two attack dice, well, boom, you got him.

He's gone, you cleared that room. You're going to be able to move. You can only move orthogonally. So, you can't but you cannot go up and down. The only way you can go up and down is if there is a ladder here. So, you've got to make sure that your crew is where they are because these these creatures are going to be spawning all over the place. And when they get a chance, if there's two creatures in one area, well, the first thing they're going to do is they're going to make that inoperable, one of them will be, and then the second one will make that on fire. It's going to take your whole down, okay? Now, you've got to figure out how to get over there using your actions, but you got to be careful you use up your actions and and immediately after this is inoperable, they're going to move on. They're going to come and if they take you out, well, that's a bad thing because if you lose all your characters, you lose the game. But, should you make it, okay, and make it all the way with all the movement and be able to fight everything off for a while, for a good while, and get to the end, well, once you're there, you cannot draw any more cards. You all you have to do is kill the remaining creatures that are in the the um mech, and once they are dead, you have won the game. Now, as an like I said, as an extra bonus, you can finish that off and then add a boss at the very end to make it even harder, which, boy, this game's hard, but it is such a rewarding game, for sure.

So, [snorts] that is a overview of how this fantastic game is. There's also event cards. If you want to play with event cards, that will Well, they they they mess you up, okay? They do not make this a happy experience. But, a a a tremendous and just well-thought-out game, again, from the great people at Skybound. This is a masterpiece. And I actually had a feel this at hand because this is just so large and and glorious, and it takes up a little a table space, but it is well worth it because the experience, the theme, and everything that it does. We're going to talk more about this up top. Let's go up top and uh get my final thoughts.

Absolute classic. Absolute all-time classic. This is one of those games that is going to be in my collection for quite some time. Um I really enjoyed this. Uh I love the kind of tower defense feel to it, but it's this this mech thing, and you were trying to get it across the wastelands, uh and good luck doing that, okay? Meanwhile, you're trying to get scrap, so you got to keep somebody there. You're trying to fight off all these enemies. Then, do when do you come out? Do you have enough scrap? Do you have enough weapons? Because you don't start with anything. You are just swinging for the fences. There's uh half guns and four guns. Uh the thing I forgot to mention is that on that bottom row, 13, that will slow you up. Uh if if there's creatures there in that 13 slot, that's a bad thing.

Um they are going to stop you from moving. Um there's a lot of things that are going to stop you from moving. Those two engine rooms and that cockpit are key. And you know, while I didn't explain everything, you got a good gist of this of the frenetic uh pace that this will go at. A couple of bad rolls will really set you back, and it takes a while to get back into the play there, unless you can get some really good scrap and upgrade a couple of rooms to really help you out. The firefighter is fantastic, cuz he puts out fires. And then, the next thing you know, you're repairing things, and boom, you're you're you're getting getting going. Um because taking that hull damage is a real pain in the neck. You you got to pick and choose your battles, and the decisions, there's so much going on.

It's just so much fun. It's different. It's outside the box, and it is a game I highly suggest go over to Sky Kingdom and pick up Waste of Parts. You will not be disappointed with this instant classic. Until next time, it's your old pal Ron. We'll see you soon, everybody. And thanks for watching the video.
