Quagmire Play Through | The Game Haus

The Brothers Murph Jul 16, 2026
Transcript 21:35

Okay, now I'm trying to think of like how can I intercept your frogs?

Yeah.

Right? How do I get them squished?

What's up everybody? I'm Mike.

I'm Mike. We're the Brothers Murph time to return to the game house for some Quagmire.

We're frogs in a bog on a log in the fog.

Oh, dang. What's it going to be?

free song I've ever done in my

That was pretty sick, dude.

This is Perplex who is sponsoring this game. Perplex.

Big shout outs to Perplex. Uh you can check out links in the description of this video to find out more about Quagmire, but this is an asymmetric game.

Uh or abstract game. Asymmetric. Not asymmetric.

We have different types of frogs.

So more of an abstract game with different frogs that are going to be hopping from lily pad to lily pad kind of on a pattern shown on their tile.

Yep.

And you're trying to get frogs uh kind of through their sequence to be able to score them. You're hoping to jump onto other people's frogs to squish them and collect them for points. There's also on each tile kind of a highlighted area of the grid where you get points by dismissing that uh tile and getting points for frogs that are on those specific spaces. So you're kind of like balancing a bunch of these different things at once.

Yeah, you're scoring up points, yeah.

Uh ultimately it's very straightforward in how it operates. So what we're going to do is show you a quick overview of how Quagmire works and we're going to hop right into our two player play. In Quagmire, players will be hopping about as frogs as they try to complete their route, squash other frogs, eat delicious flies, and score the most points. On a turn, a player can take one of four actions. First, they can place a frog from their hand onto the shore where they can begin their journey. Each frog has a specific four-step path they hope to complete in order to score points. If you like, you can take a turn to move a frog. Here you will look at their diagram and find where they are in their journey. Then they will move to the next lily pad shown on their diagram. If there's a frog there, that frog gets squished and falls into the water. If this was an opponent's frog, they are collected and placed in the one slot on your side of the board, which means they are worth one point. If your frog lands on a fly, you gain a new frog tile to your hand, and you must move the fly to a new lily If a frog of yours has reached the star space shown on their tile, you can collect and score that frog. In a two-player game, they will be worth two points. Another action you can take is to discard a frog from your hand and score points. On each frog tile, there are four spaces highlighted in yellow. When you discard a tile, you'll gain one point for each space that has a frog on it, no matter who that frog belongs to. Place the discarded tile in the appropriate slot to show how many points they are worth. If you find yourself unable to take a legal action, you must lose three points and then gain two new frog tiles and place one of them on your shore. The game will end when there are no more frog tiles and a player can't make a legal turn. At this time, players no longer lose points and instead count up the points for the tiles they've collected. At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins.

Bud-

weiser.

There it is. Not a sponsor.

Yeah, whoever goes first Yeah, we've got it.

But, man.

It's a weird sponsorship for us considering neither of us drinks, but

Yeah.

Yeah.

What a fun ad

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah. Back in the day.

Back in the day, simpler times for sure.

But, we're out here doing frog stuff nonetheless.

We're here to uh as you saw in the overview, uh strategically move around, try not to get squished.

Try not to get squashed or knocked into the water or anything like that. Yeah, and try and get your your frogs to their final destinations.

Absolutely.

I mean, why don't you go ahead and uh start us off there? So, again, you can do one of four actions: play a frog, move a frog, complete a frog if they're in their final destination, or um discard a card a frog for scoring, which would be weird to do for your first turn.

True. Um well, I should get on the board, I reckon.

Probably.

Um so, what So, again, each frog has like a little diagram, and I'm like, "Okay." Probably get like where the flies are and stuff like that. And again, we're playing a two-player game which has these red beetles on it, which none of our frogs will go on to. Yeah, so that'll be basically a bit smaller of a board uh for two player, and there's a specific set of tiles that will make it so that these will literally never be in play.

Cannot I walked upon. So, I'm going to play this to my shore, my little frog of frog. Um and yeah.

Get wrecked.

Okay, I'll play that one to my shore. Okay, so that one wants to go kind of in a straight line then over. Mhm, okay. Um Ooh. Okay. Uh I can have up to two frogs on my shores. So, I will play this one right here.

Okay, so you're going like boom first, both of you are kind of going rap rap.

Yeah, so of course I can see on my thing, you know, and it's in the my perspective. So, I'm like, okay, now I'm trying to think of like, how can I intercept your frogs?

Yeah, right?

get them squished? Um I will Ooh, okay, hold on. So, that would be Trying to think. Look at your stuff.

Mhm.

Okay, I'm going to go I'm going to move a frog. So, I'm going to move my frog to their first position which is their lily pad position, which is right there.

Okay.

So, my starting lily pad, I'm going to move this frog to their starting spot, which is the bottom left uh from my perspective, top right to y'alls out there.

Woah.

Uh I will go with this frog now.

Okay. Mhm. Don't like it. I'm playing

Playing chicken Playing chicken is it? I've made mistakes already. Do da do do.

Yeah, frog stuff. All right, what I'm going to do is this. I'm actually going to discard this tile for scoring. So,

Wow.

uh in this case you're going to look at again the four yellow highlighted lily pads, which is this line from my perspective. Yep.

Uh and any frogs, mine or Nick's, uh that are on those four spaces will be worth a point a piece. There's one there, so I will flip this down and put it into the one slot, meaning they're worth one point. Obviously, it could to a max of four, but that's not this case. I'm just out here out here vibing, eh? That's all I'm doing. All right. Uh I'm going to bring this frog onto this lily pad. Cool. All right. So, where I felt like I made a mistake is this. I'm going to move this frog to their next spot on their journey, so I have to go to here. Now, this is great cuz I get a fly, which means I'm going to get a new bit of frog.

Yeah, just a little bit of frog. You have to put that fly somewhere else.

I'm going to put that fly right there. So, new tile-wise, ooh, I'm going to take this guy. Yeah.

Uh to my hand.

To your hand. All right, I'm going to move a frog.

Figured you would.

I'm going to move a frog. So, my second position of my frog is boop, right there, which I think Mikey knew. Well, that's why when I So, I was like, "I'll put this frog out there." A little the little game of chicken. So, this is going to get pushed into the water.

My thing where I just to clarify where I ran into trouble is I was thinking about getting this space, which that frog and this frog can do, but they also both start here. And if I jumped from here to here where my frog was, I can and would have squished my own frog.

Yeah.

So, and maybe I could have done that, like sacrifice your own, you know, piece.

could, but we were in that that standoff where I was like, "What can I do to delay?" That's why I played the scoring tile cuz I was like, "Let me just get another turn deep in."

Um but I could not uh avoid my fate.

My fate.

And if you could change your fate, would you?

Yeah.

Um Okay, I'm going to play this to my shore, this frog. All right. I'm going to move this frog to here.

Sure.

So, to move this, I cannot put it anywhere on my own shore, and I can't put it where a red beetle is. I don't really want to put it that close to you, so I'm just going to put it here.

Fair.

Uh okay, so they are there. They're going to be headed there. All right, I think I'm just going to move my frog here to start their journey.

Okay, I'll move you forward to your next position.

All righty, I will move them to their first spot, which is this lily pad.

What are you doing?

I don't know. I want I would like Oh, you know, I'm sorry. I want to do this fly. I actually never got to do frog.

Oh, yeah.

I'm going to do this frog. Sorry, I was like I feel like I should have another frog. I should. Um I'm going to I'm going to go ahead and discard this frog for their scoring. So, again, it's scoring uh this spot and then these three spots. So, there'll be two there.

Nice.

All right, I'm going to move my frog. It will go zoop zoop boop right there.

Oh, I should have

I forgot about that one. I was like

I realized I should have I should have gone that one first. I was like I was like oh, I think I should try to I moved this frog and I was just like I was more wondering if you could get to me, not really looking at where I'm trying to end up.

Yeah, so basically my last destination is here. I should have gone there.

Cuz then you would have been in position to score.

Yeah, I did I'll do that now. All right.

Hold on, let me look at my other stuff.

Um actually, I'm going to go here.

Ooh.

Cuz I'll take a fly. Um The only place I can put it is here or here. I guess I'll put it here. Um and let's do you. Okay. Uh I'm going to move this frog on their journey and squish squash.

No.

Yeah. Did I not pay Oh my gosh, I didn't see it. God. That's so annoying. I was I should have just moved that. That was so silly.

That's all right.

Oh, dang it. That was

point.

so darn silly. I wasn't even I was I was just looking at that one.

Hey.

It's all good.

Um Um let's put you out.

Okay. So, we'll start down there.

I know. It's just like Okay. I will move my red frog here, pick up a fly. Big old

I don't want to put this here because that's where your next stop is. So, I think I'm just going to go Well, I can't anyway cuz this is my

Yes.

You can't put it in your four homes, so that actually is fine cuz it's not even

lily pads cannot have them.

Well, you can be on the other person's starting lily

I'll go there.

And the frog I will take is this one.

Okay.

Move there.

Sure. I'll place under the shore.

Right here?

Yeah. I need to finish this one cuz I saw my feet that one up and he can squish me if I don't. So, I'm going to score this one. So, again, you score equal to the number of players. We're playing two players. So, this will be a little two for right

So, if we played a three or four player game, there would be people here and here and these would be flipped to their normal side.

Yeah, but everyone's orientation is always like pointing away from them like that. So, you can always tell whose frogs are whose very easily.

Cuz you'll be able to see them. It'll be in your at your perspective. Um okay. So, you scored that as your action. I think I'm going to move here.

Okay. I want to move you Nope. Nope. I'm not going to move there.

You're trying to get squished or what?

I was going to I've got to move there or I'm going to get squished. And so, I don't want to really get squished. Thank you very much. I'll put this person out. This person this frog here.

All right. This frog I'm going to move. Their next step is just right here, so I can get a fly. Um let me see. I think I'm going to take this one over here. Put it in my hand. Um and then I'll go here. Okay, we'll put you onto your starting lily pad. Am I in danger? No. All right. All right. Just trying not to go squish city. Hold on. I ain't going then. Okay. Uh I'm going to move. This frog wants to go here. They're just taking the short hops. Um this gives me another fly. So McFly. Woah, McFly. I'm going to go here.

And then I will take this frog. So part of the game will get to be triggered once all the frogs are gone. And then basically once someone cannot play, then that will actually trigger that

Yeah, if you run into a situation where you can't play legally any any you know, at any way, prior to that you lose three points. And then you get two frog tiles, one of which will go directly to your shore. But in the end game, you are not penalized for for not being able to play.

Yeah. I'm going to move you you here. Just jumping. Jumping like man. Big old hops. Big old hops. Um Hm. Hm. What that frog thinking? What that frog do? Um Gosh. Where you headed next? You're going here and there. Okay. I'm going to take this frog and I'm going to go here to their next spot in the Boom. Collect a fly. I will take this frog friend and can't do that.

Go. Here. Okay. I'll bring that frog out. Bring that frog into the battle. Bring that frog. Prepare them for battle. Um battle frogs. Okay.

Remember that show about Remember Battletoads? The game, Battletoads? You ever play Battletoads? Anyone ever play Battletoads? It's like it's like a computer game?

No, it's like an SNES game. Well, maybe not computer, too. Battletoads. Me and uh my childhood friend Evan used to play all the time. It was kind of like a Street Sharks kind of vibe

In that era of the world.

Battletoads all the time.

Interesting. I'll have to look that one up. I I It might It's sparking something in my brain. Yeah. Uh I'm going to play this, Nick. I'm going to discard this frog um cuz the three for sorry, four highlighted spaces are these ones, of which three have frogs. So, I will score three points for that.

Yeah. I want to. I don't have I haven't had a good scoring frog. Um are you going to I don't think so. So, I'm going to go here, get a new tile. So, I have no choice but to put it over on your end, huh? So, I'll do that. Um hm.

All right, only three tiles left.

Indeed.

I was supposed to have two piles though, so it's

Sure.

Um okay. I think I'm going to discard another toad. Cuz I've got one here, one here, one here, nothing there. That's another three points. Come on, man.

That not good.

The swamp is mine. I'm going to go here. Get another tile. I will go here. Um I'll get this one. Okay.

Yep, so we'll go there.

I was up two options.

Just Yeah, hello. My name is Frank.

Uh okay, so I don't want to get squished by you cuz you're coming this way. So I'm going to jump down here

Be about it, Mikey.

and get this fly. I think I want um this one. And I will place this here. Okay, I think I'm going to discard this frog friend right here cuz this wants to be on a diagonal like this, which is going to be three.

Beautiful. Beauty. Yeah, beauty. Mhm.

Okay, I'm going to move this frog to their final destination down here.

I got to ask a question. I'll put this one up.

Um all right, I'm going to place this fly and then I'm going to now score them before they

How do I put this out? Just to make Mikey scared of

Before they get squished.

Before they get

All right, so this is empty. So now note that these flies, if anyone catches them, they do become worth a point a piece.

That is a correct

happens before the end game. Um here we go, do do do do. I'm going to bring you out here. Oops, sorry. You out here. Okay. Mhm.

I'm going to get by you.

You're going to jump on me.

I'm not going to jump on you.

Producers, baby.

Okay. Um I am going to go here, collect this one, which will just be one point. So I'll just kind of put them on one point spot.

I don't like that you have flies lined up for the entirety of your journey. That's rough. Okay. Uh I will start my journey here. With them. Yeah, I'm going to go boop. That's brutal. All right, I will go up to here and collect this fly, at the least. I'm going to go rip.

That was very serendipitous to have that frog in that particular particular

I love to claim high strategy. And I will. I shall be doing that. Uh okay, I'm going to score this frog. They have been in their spot for quite

It's in there. For so long, you know? They weren't really in danger, so I Yeah, that's the thing. I'm going to I want to have that in my back pocket.

I'm going to score them. Again, I'll get two points for that one.

Sure. Okay, I'm going to move them down here. I'll put this frog out onto the shore. Okay. I'll move this frog to their spot. Boop.

Nay. I'm going to go here. Okay. Uh I'm going to discard this frog.

I

I wish you hadn't moved out there. There's only two in this quadrant here, but they're still two points.

Two points is two points, man.

Yeah, man.

I'll go ahead and score this frog cuz they are in their final destination. Great. Let me check it out.

Mhm. Specifically the eighth one.

It's really good.

It's so good.

Uh I'm going to move down to here.

Yeah.

I'm going to bring my frog out. Oh. No, I'm silly. I didn't put that frog out there cuz I was like, "Oh, my he's just going to step on me if I do it." Well, then he moved there, so I'm going to go right here. Cuz I was thinking your next destination is here, so I was only thinking about this frog and I completely forgot about the first step. So, I'm going to score this one so they don't get squished. Oh, that's so silly. Um whoops. And then I'll go here as Mikey. I'll go to the shore. Okay, I'm going to go here. Oh. All right, then. I All I have actions is to go here, which means you're going to squish me.

you. Uh all right, and then I can no longer play.

Yes, so that's the end of the game.

So, these two I'm not going to score those two, but I handed you a point at the very end. All right, so all we have to do now is score. So, again, where everything's are, that's their points. So, I have three, six, eight, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 points.

I have uh let's just say two, four, six, eight, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. Do I Wait, do we Are we tied?

tied?

Three, six.

Six. Eight, 10, 12. 14, 15, 16, 17.

And I have two, four, six, eight.

We're such frog. We're such We're so We're so frogish.

Seven, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. In which case, you share the victory cuz there's no tie breaker. Let me double check. I don't think there's a tie breaker. Hold on.

No, I think it's

I think you share it. Uh no points for frogs remaining on the board. The player with the most points wins. If there's a tie, all players win and share the swampy glory of the bog.

I thought I Okay, so I'm glad I squished you twice then because

the difference.

That was the Well, the fact that you It's actually better that you ended when you did because I didn't get to score both of these frogs.

knew I needed to get the game done. I just in in my haste, I walked into a couple of squishies. So, I I forced the tie for us both.

Hey, let's go.

like that's very generous of me and I feel like I should get this victory as a result.

Frog stuff. So, that was Boom, Quagmire. A tie game. A I was going to say a very close game as close as you could get to it it was tied indeed little things here and there both of us made slight tactical mistakes here and there allowed the other frogs frogs to jump on top of each other but nonetheless that is quagmire by perplex who are sponsors for again make sure to check them out down the description below let them know the brothers murph sent you that's it for everyone for us everyone let us know what you think about this one in the comments below and we'll see you all next time bye everybody.
