What is going on people out there who are ready to watch us? I'm Jonah. Katie, Melissa. And Kevin. Today we are doing a full play through of Hell of a Deal from Smirk and Dagger, which is not on Kickstarter yet, but

All right, so this is a cooperative poker game. We are playing against the devil and his minions. And we are trying to beat the hands that they have. They cheat. Good news is we can cheat as well. We have a several rounds that we need to go through, several minions, and then eventually the devil himself that we have to win against and still have some soul chips left over during the game. So, we're going to be betting and playing favor cards to hopefully increase our odds. We have a temptation track that we need to watch out for because we can get a lot, you know, take on a little temptation to get some favors, but too high and we lose if two players get to that 10 on the temptation track.
So, we need to be careful with that. Um our bets are going to give us benefits, but if we lose or fold, there are going to be penalties that we have to take. So, we are going to be doing our best to make it through each round, have some people win, minimize our losses for the people who don't win, and Yeah. Okay, Owen. I A big
question. Can I sell my soul No selling. and join the other team?

Although you may want to like stab a bad player in the back if they're bringing you down. Unfortunately, yes, some of the other players can feel like traders at some point.
So, this is Texas Hold'em style. We do have the first cheat. We have have been dealt three pocket cards instead of two, but we can only use a maximum of two cards for our hand at the end of the round, one or two cards from our hand. All right, I think Melissa dealt. Mhm. So, that means I'm One more time. I just got to show the people. Look at this shiny box. Shiny. That's right.

Um so, yeah, definitely check out that when it comes to on Kickstarter. So, I'm going to bet here. I've got a bunch of choices here. Um I like to bet with a getting a favor card because the more favor cards, the more ability I have to, you know, more flexibility. So, I'm going to bet a favor card. I immediately get a favor card, and I can't read this out loud, but I'll let you at home read what my favor card says.
You only have three of them, is that right? And everyone starts with one.
Three at a time. Okay. Johnny, you're [clears throat] next. Okay, great. Um I guess I'll There is no checking in this game. You're either going to bet or you're going to fold.
I'll bet and take a favor card myself. I'll take a look at it. Ooh.
Now, favor cards normally can be played after you bet on your turn. Ones with lightning bolts can be played anytime, but normally you cannot play a favor card if you're going to fold. Okay. So, you have to bet first and then play your favor. I will also get a favor card.
And I will as well because it's a good thing to do at the beginning. Now we're getting the flop, right? Um not not really. Nope. She double checked just to make sure. All right. So, should we talk about the boss cuz there's a minion for each one.
So, so the boss here are here. We He has a base hand value of a straight, a six through 10. And he also is giving us a little bit of of ability if Oh, we didn't even talk about that. Um but we can get a little tempted and we can draw cards from the deck. Um but um if we don't take the temptation, then it says that
And Kevin did not bring his reading glasses. So, we can suffer one temptation and draw an extra card, so you have more cards in your hand. Still can only play one or two. If you do not take the temptation, then deadly allure, our minion, draws another card for his hand. Oh, interesting.
he's either going He's going to have a straight. He's going to have at least a straight, but he could hit something better on the community He can use all of his pocket cards? He only has two. But if he draws another one? Yeah, if if we give him more by not taking temptation, Yeah. Um I think he still would only use his best two. Yeah, best two. Okay. So, the discard is face up. Okay. Is that good? I'm just I'm just I don't feel like it's good.

We cannot discuss any secret information, so we can't tell each other what cards we have, but we can talk about things that are common knowledge that we can see. Uh-oh. Or maybe it's good, I don't know. I'm just saying things. All right. So,
now it's back to Kevin. It's time for him to bet. Each chip has a different type of power Man. I'm going to risk it and I'm going to bet a soul. So, souls are good to get into the soul pot because we need souls to be able to survive the end game.

Sorry, I just didn't hear what it was. So, I took a temptation and I drew a card. Oh, interesting. But it's basically I'm getting more ability to So, now you can get through more options. Okay. Um I will Can I take a devilish offering? You may. Well, which one are you looking at?
I think I want to look at two cards and keep one. Great. Love it. Everybody cool with that? So, you're going to flip that face down and it's used. No one else use it this round. So, the one you don't use is going to go into the discard pile. And for people watching, those devilish offerings are reveal a boss card, look at two cards, keep one, which is what Jonah's doing, swap a card with a player, and draw a card from the discard. So, sometimes there's some good stuff out there that you can And what was the other one? Goes face up into the discard. Interesting. And Yeah, we just like We We usually do. Because of this, we can actually snatch things out of the discard.
Um I will bet a soul. All right. Are you going to play any favor cards? Play any favor cards or draw card for a temptation.

Well, you drew so many cards. Hopefully you had something. I wasn't getting good cards. All right. So, what happens here is the boss has a straight six to 10. If this had been better than a straight, he has two pair, then he would play this instead. But two pair is not better than a straight, so he's playing a straight. We all have flushes, so we actually all we beat him. So, we count our souls. I have two. Two. Two. Three. Wow, we gave ourselves a good buffer that first round. Six. Two, four, six, seven, eight, nine. So, let me explain quickly what would happen if anyone had not beaten him, you would flip over all the tokens that you had bet and then they have penalties on the back, usually temptation and curses.
So. We did get a little help that boss allowed us to pull more cards from the deck. Mhm. Uh that's not going to happen again. So, Katie, tell us what the next minion tells us to do.
This is the eeny meeny. I don't know. He says the current high card of the community board, as well as any cards of matching value, cannot be used by players. So, if the high card's jack and you have a jack in your hand, neither of those cards are played. They can't be They will not be playable. And he does He does He's got two pair. What are his pairs? Fours and nines.

I gain one temptation. Okay. So, that was You can heal, Katie. That was almost nothing. So, again, to win, we have to survive all of the rounds. We have to beat the devil himself and still have souls left over. We lose souls by each player who folds or does not win at the end of the round. We will take souls away from our pot. So, we are trying to build up that soul pot and not have a bunch of you know, curses and temptations because we also lose if two players get to 10 on the temptation track.
It's important to note that once you go past one of these little fiery areas, you cannot heal yourself back below it. So, once you get once you hit five, you can't go back to zero. I'm the dealer. Jonah, you are the first person to bet. Cool. Uh let's go ahead and get that favorite card, shall we? Yep. And that's your second one that you have? That is a used one. Okay. And you lose extra two souls. So that's good for at least half the people to still win if possible. But [clears throat] do you think you want to fold?

I mean, I think there's a chance I could pull this out, but my favor cards are not helping me at this moment. So maybe I'll do this and try to do another favor card. It's going to be amazing. I know it's late, at this point you could have traded a jack with Melissa. Melissa could have then pulled a jack possibly from the discard pile, the other jack. And then that would have given you three three jacks. Which is still less than the Cuz there's no way to make a full house cuz there's no You need a You need a pair here. Yeah. Yeah. Cuz you can't play three cards from your hand. Oh, Jonah. Whoops. Unless you have a favor card.

Sometimes those curses are really bad.
they're really bad for you. two souls per person who lost. We all lost, we lose eight souls, so six and two of the winners. How the tables turn. Eight souls. We just breezed through that first one. How the tables turn. Jonah, you are the dealer? Okay. No more flushes on the board. Um the first thing we do is we get a new boss. Misfortune. She has [snorts] three of a kind eights. Yep. If you play a favor, you draw a curse for the next round.
I'm just going to draw one. You got to beat her fair and square. Yeah. She is three of a kind eights, so getting a little more difficult. Just need five four cards or five cards to beat her. Now, this is Jonah's first time playing, Katie's second time playing, Kevin and I have played probably about six or seven times.
seven times. And Yeah. We've won some and lost some. We've definitely lost um we've won more than we've lost at this point cuz we figured out there's ways to manipulate what's happening. And there's different bosses
was a very difficult round. Yeah, it was a difficult round. I I do think that these some of the bosses in this setup are maybe a little harder than some of the others. Oh, you shouldn't say that. There's a bunch of bosses in the box and we Are these discarded? Burned cards immediately? For what? Oh. Do not do that.
