Transcript
This is the new encyclopedia of monsters from Scorpion Mask, and I think this might be my favorite memory game of all time. And let me tell you, I don't I don't use those words lightly, because I really love board games, specifically family and children's board games. Like me and my family are are I would say kind of sleuths of this style of game, to the point that we're actually running out of room to floor to ceiling, just there's there's a secret row behind Johnny's skull here that you can see that Yeah, it's there's just so many of these games. We love them. Like it's it's kind of it's kind of uh you know, it might it might be a problem. It's like there's a lot. But encyclopedia of monsters is not part of that problem. This one's for two to four players, ages six plus, and it's going to take about 15 minutes to play. And the core premise is really quite simple. You are going to have a couple cards in your hand, and these cards are going to have various different abilities that you're going to do when you play it. Most of the time you're always going to be searching for something, which means the magnifying glass. However, all these different monsters have different special abilities that they're going to do. And the iconography is so simple that my four-year-old daughter is able to figure it out. This one just means that I have to have my as uh eyes open. I flip one over, and everybody else gets to see it.
Whereas this one means that my eyes are open, and then I flip it over, and their eyes are closed. And you're trying to flip over these tiles, and they start off just being randomly scattered about with these candles. But as you progress through the books, they start to become more, and they really add more and more layers to this game. And we're five games in now, but I believe it's going to be 15, and we're absolutely chomping at the bits to play more. How it works is there's this little core rule booklet, and there's going to be a video to teach you as well, but it'll teach you how to play the first game. And that's where you go to Scotland, because each box is going to be its own separate continent, because you're monster spotters. You're trying to find monsters out there. So you learn a little bit about a different location and the monster, and then they tell you how to set up that game and any special rules and then the next time you play you just move here and you start to unlock more things that are going to get mixed into the game and you take some things out but your kids just start to repetitively start to know what the different symbols mean and they're learning and they just keep adding more and more layers to this game but where it gets exciting is the pedigree behind this game is three designers who have each made three of like the top few hundred games of all time. In particular, my favorite game designer of all time Antoine Bauza who I think he's brilliant. He did Seven Wonders. But this game right now is fantastic. Now I will say with a four-year-old it can be a little bit difficult and this specific component I have a huge complaint with. We had to house rule this one immediately. But I
am so excited for this game and it's only 30 bucks MSRP. It is going to be well worth your time. You're going to get 15 games minimum out of it. Absolutely a delight. Check this one out. Encyclopedia of Monsters full review coming soon. Hopefully for the whole family.
