Edo's Park Life Review (KS Preview)

hey everybody Edo here and this is Park life a cozy trick-taking game it is live on Kickstarter now and supposedly it comes in this pretty cute stuffed you know bag Hedgehog and then with these little hedgehog score trackers I guess they might a hedgehog um and and this is definitely a simple trick taking game um the Cozy element I'm not so sure but but it's it's straightforward and and and let me take you through it so if you're not familiar with trick taking games and trick taking games players are going to have a number of cards based on the number of players and we are going to be playing them to the center of the table which is the trick and we are going to try effectively to to win it and then that's going to start determining points and so trick- taking games like uh Spades or Hearts uh typically use suits and then you're trying to have the highest card in that suits in this game you have Seasons or or weather conditions you snowy or uh hot uh there's rainy they're smoggy so I don't even know if it's weather conditions sort of as outdoor conditions um and then you have just numbers like on on playing cards and the way it works typically not all Trick taking games but commonly is when a player plays is uh well okay there's usually a trump suit a suit that is the suit that everyone's trying to play with
Spades hearts in this case it's a Trump trump weather condition and the way it's set in this game is the player who plays first sets the condition so uh I've played hot and so now everyone else is trying to play a hot card you don't have to you can play other cards um but the only card that can win is a hot card and in this game the the fiction is they're you're trying to sell something so this person's trying to sell I guess a soccer ball and so the cheapest price works so uh effectively you you want to have the lowest number to beat it so this person looks at their hand and I didn't count these cards but a six was played here this player has a four so they play and now they're winning because they have the lowest in suit let's say this player goes and oh they don't have that suit so they could play a lower number they could play a three a windy three but because the windy three is not on the starting suit is not going to win in the last playerss at their hand and oh look they happen to have Sunny three so they would win now so Nuance number one player sets the the suit and or the condition and then lowest number wins the second bit is you'll notice there these little house icons I believe these icons are going to change but the winning player all the other players lose these cards but the winning player gets this card as their points three points points and then have to discard a number of cards based on the number of houses so in this case I would then go to my hand
I'd get that for points and then I'd look at my hand and say all right I'm want to discard this other card cards that are worth higher amounts of points like this seven would make you discard four cards from your hand so one of the things that's interesting about this game is um it's light um but the uh the shifting hand sizes create some Dynamics around well if I have less cards I might be out of future rounds so how am I going to take that into my scoring but that's it that's the basic game you are playing to lowest cards on conditions like in other trick-taking games you're trying to like manage your card so maybe you intentionally lose around to then come in later uh there is in the basic Edition one uh zero card just one somewhere in here and it's the Hedgehog and it's not worth any points but it it wins on all suits so somebody has that um and that's that that that's it this is a simple trick to game there's an advanced mode which introduces uh uh some more hedgehogs but then these down arrow cards these are like set collection cards when you play them they do a couple things one their value is equal to the number of that same suit you have in your your Victory pile so initially it's it's it's a lower number it's zero because you maybe don't but as the game goes on it might be worth one or two points depending on what's going on and that might impact whether out it wins and then the other thing is when you're doing final scoring it's worth a point for every one of those suits that match
it so it has Dynamic scoring so I think that's an interesting extradition there was another kind uh that the rule said uh not to use so I don't know what the side to side Arrow does or if these are going to make it into the final Edition uh but anyway this is Park life look this is really simple um I think it's a nice introduction to to trip taking and the little elements are cute um uh I think Advanced trick-taking players are going to feel that there's a limited amount of choices but if you've never played a trick taking game you can get into it and figur it out and there are some interesting moments in there so anyway uh might look like this but this is Parkway hey everybody Edo here and thanks for watching gaming with Edo reviews over here on this playlist league and Insider videos over here on this one subscribe share all that good stuff but most importantly play some great games thanks bye
