What are the latest Arkham Horror Remastered Updates?
Transcript
Hello everybody and welcome. Today I'm going to be checking out all of the updates for Arkham Horror Remastered to the point that they were released when, you know, I'm recording this video. We did a preview video for this uh when it was first announced and I mentioned that video. I wanted to kind of check out the updates as they came. And I think there's enough updates now that we can actually like talk about this uh and it's going to be somewhat interesting, not just being like, "Oh, wow. They updated one card. That's really neat." You know, yada yada yada. Uh, I'm a big fan of Arkham War Second Edition, as I mentioned in the video that Travis Burn and I released. This was the game that I think made me fall in love with the idea of this kind of horror storytelling game, and I like how the Arkham Files has evolved into Arkham Horror, the card game today. Arkham Horror Remastered and Arkham Horror Second Edition are ultimately not for every gamer. So, I think I'm going to hopefully do this to also give some insight as we go. So, I think that there are a lot of updates here. uh we have like we're on update number one and it goes all the way to nine. So, we're going to kind of check them all out here in this video and then I'll probably do another one of these potentially when the uh campaign releases or in the middle of the campaign as well. All right, what is Arkham Horror Remastered? More about this game, this classic game remastered to the modern era with Olive McBride here. Welcome investigators and Eldrich beings alike. Arkham remasters the first Vault series campaign from Fantasy Flight Games, bringing back one of the most beloved cooperative board games ever created. Few games have left a mark on the hobby quite like it. Amen. In Arkham Horror, players take on the role
investigators. They are everyday people, a doctor and non- studentent facing unimaginable threats. Strange gates to other dimensions are opening across the town of Arkham. Monsters pour into the streets and reality begins to unravel. Working together, the investigators must gather clues, acquire powerful weapons and spells, battle horrifying creatures, and seal the gates before the ancient one awakens. Whether you're a veteran investigator or preparing to enter Arkham for the first time, the remastered is edition is the way to go. But what's new in the remastered edition? New art and graphic design. This is the biggest and most obvious upgrade. The remastered edition has an entirely new look. Everything from the cards, the tokens to the player dashboards are looking entirely fresh. Now, I'm actually kind of curious. Let's go to Board Game Geek and let's see if we can get pictures of the original for comparison. I think that that's a good thing to have here. I have to admit, I have some uh rose tinted glasses for um for the original. Uh it's I love the style.
Uh, okay. Just they don't have Arkham Horror second edition show up here. 2005. I'm a big fan of the original look. I think that there's just a lot of I think there's a lot to love. What the hell? Why is there a picture of just this like woman in a in a night gown lying next to the Arkham product? What the hell happened to Board Game Geek, man? Okay. All right. Let's look at this one. This one's nice. This one looks like a nice big picture. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's good.
Okay. So we can compare this stuff here. Um yeah, see the thing that I I like. So here are the original investigator cards, right? So we can see this kind of sum, right? Like this kind of stuff right here. This is the new investigator card. They have like dashboards now. So before you would just like lay one of these DNA tokens on this and you would like slide it back and forth. So you can see in the new version we actually have like boards that we slide this into and we can move things up and down, right? So like I think already this is really nicer. Same sort of thing for the ancient ones. You can see here for Cthulhu um you have like his board and then there's some stuff that they're going to go deeper into this in some of the later updates, but we can see where um things slide for this kind of thing. So we have the doom track.
The minus 16 is interesting. Okay. But it seems that sort of thing. So like this is really this is nice. We have the mythos cards. Do we have those any face up mythos cards here? Uh mythos. Those are these ones. But none of them are face up. But that's these cards here. I think the back looks nice. I like this kind of weird like monster face. But I think this new back looks good. And you can see that they kind of have set this up like this. These are the monster tokens here. Monster tokens down here. The monster tokens are probably the thing that I'm most disappointed about in the new version. I love these old monster tokens. I think that these ones are a little bit too modern gaming, right? I think that they had like kind of like empty space and I think that's like to me the thing that's getting me the most about some of these redesigns. I think that some of them are really good. I think the the ancient ones look good. I think the investigators look good. I like the mythos cards, but from what I've seen of like the monsters and some of the items, they're a little bit too empty in terms of um how things look for me personally.
Again, I have my rose tinted glasses. I'm not going to pretend that I don't, but just some uh just some of that thought on this, especially like for the money tokens. Like again, I think these just like look very empty, very clean. Uh compared to the money that we had here, which actually look like bills. They have the extra designs on them. It's kind of like that overdesigned, underdesigned sort of like aesthetic that is taking over the modern design sensibilities. Cleaned up and clarified rules. Very little has been changed the rules. So, this game is still the same game you know and love, but the rules have had a thorough combing through to maximize better understanding. terminology has been better standardized across all the expansions and cards, so there's no more confusion when referencing one card and the next, which is good.
Uh, enhanced components and quality of life improvements. The quality of life improvements go beyond cleaned up rules and a new color. Some rules have graph of graphic design reminders for quick and easy reference. For the upkeep phase, be on the lookout for this red clock. This makes your game so much more streamlined and easier to understand. Quick access, quickly access the board to see all your upkeep immediately. So, this is like the uh they have this a very similar thing in uh Elder Horror. Um not to the extent where it's like the design for upkeep, but I I do like this change. I think adding this up thing is really good. And while I'm also not a big fan of the curse bless redesign, um I mean, in all fairness, actually, they're about on par. The original curse I was thinking of the Arkham one, sorry, the Eldrich one. The cursed bless in Arc uh in second edition is pretty bad. I think that I'm actually going to say it.
I actually think these are better. I actually like these more. Not a big fan of the frames for the spells or the items. Again, they just look a little bit too uh quote unquote empty to me. Um but I do I like these. I think that I think these are actually nicer. The stained glass idea I think is pretty clever, especially when a lot of the blessings is going to happen in the south church. This is the classic adventure fans know and love. Presented with the care, quality, and production value deserves. Follow the campaign for there are still surprises to come. Okay, let's check out update two. Choosing your next nightmare. All the boxes. For the first time ever, players will have the opportunity to collect the entire Arkham Horror experience in one campaign. That's right. Every Arkham every expansion for classic Arkham Horror will be available as part of Arkham Horror Remastered.
From new investigators and ancient ones to entirely new locations, encounters, monsters, and challenges, these expansions transformed Arkham Horror into one of the biggest cooperative gaming experiences ever created. And now they're returning an upgraded editions designed to complement the remastered core game. So we have Dunage Horror, we have Kingsport, we have Inmouth. No, this is Inmouth. This is probably Kingsport. This one is What's this box? We have the Miscatonic. Oh, that's probably the small boxes all put together if I have to wager. Yeah, because there were a bunch of expansions. Kingsport, Inmouth, um, Dunich, the Miscatonic University one, and then we had Curse of the Black Pharaoh, Lurker, the threshold, the King and Yellow, and then Black of the Woods. I think it's those four, right? So, eight. That makes sense. Then these are all in here. Oh, that's it, huh? In the following weeks, we'll take a look at each of the expansions and what they bring to the game. All right. Easy up, easy update. Look at that. We're zooming, folks. We're zooming.
A new look for a new era update 3. A peek at the old and the new to see some of what's being changed. Welcome investigators and elders beans alike. Remaster editions always bring something new and this one is no exception. While there are some minor tweaks to the rules which we will discuss later, don't worry. The vast majority of what's been changed is the art direction, graphic design, and component quality. Here's what we're look at. Here's uh here we're going to look at some of the new graphic changes and talk a little bit more about the rationale behind them. Let's start with the one you've already seen, the investigators. All right. So, as I mentioned, here's the old Joe Diamond. And that art uh is Can I zoom in on it? No. I mean, I can. The old Joe Diamond art sure was something, huh? I remember when Elder Torah came out and everyone got new a new art uh a lot from um Maggalli Villnu was I was just like, "Oh [ __ ] this is real now. This shit's like the re It's like It's looking good now and it's kind of been that way for a while. Um, but yeah, Joe Diamond got a big upgrade here. Uh, this probably and you can see like these are the DNA tokens. It's I think this board this is like the best thing. And while I'm probably not going to buy the remastered edition uh because I have all the original stuff, I think this board is something that I wish I I could have because I think that this stuff looks really really really good.
This probably has the most striking and significant updates, which is why it was the first thing we wanted to show off, not only in this article, but from the very start of our our campaign showcase. The investigator sheets slide into a pocket-like triple layered dashboard. Now, instead of the infamous pill tokens sliding around, cubes are held safely in place to denote your stats, stamina, and sanity. Before you barely bump the table and the pills would move, the new dashboard offers a much better way to keep track of everything about your investigator. You need a cataclysmic disturbance to lose track of these. Shut them. Plus, the colors make it easily to tell them immediately with your cubes just how much danger you're in. No more counting tokens. Yeah, I think like not having to actually have health and sanity tokens is really good. Your special abilities are at the top where the eye is naturally drawn to read first. This way, your skill is always at the top of your mind. I don't know about you, but with so much going on, sometimes special abilities are forgotten. This way, it keeps you focused and ready to use that ability.
And the ancient ones got similar treatment. Um, but yeah, like I think that, yeah, if they had just the player boards and like the cards and like the ancient ones, I would pick it up. I think I would buy them for sure. Um, but I can't I can't buy a new board. Even though the board does look good when we look at that as well. The board actually looks really nice. Um, [clears throat] but I think that this stuff looks really, really, really good. And I think that um, well, I'm going to miss the crumpled paper aesthetic. I do think that these are going to look really nice in paper. Like I think it's going to look really good. Uh yeah. So the original C that I have here, I think that this also looks really damn good. I think that this stuff is like really, really, really nice. Just like the layered uh just like with the investigators, the H1 sheets are slid into the respective triple layered dashboard. No more fiddling with tokens. Now it's just a single cube to move along the Doom track. This makes it sturdy and ready for almost anything you can throw at it. Who's hammering outside? Eagle-eyed longtime fans will probably note that there's more information missing on from the sheep.
It's actually on the back. So yeah, this is like the attack modifier. This is the attack that they do. This is their passive. And this is like their cultist tokens, like their worshipper effects, right? So if you flip it, uh like on the back of this one, it was just like a cool green texture. On this one, it's actually now relevant. So you actually flipped the combat mode, which I think is much nicer as well. I think this is a great great uh transition for like this new design. All the information for the final battle, including two additional tracks, is kept on the back. Now, when it's time to fight the ancient one, you dramatically flip the dashboard. This way, there's less visual clutter on the ancient one for both stages. Overall, this will make it so the two stages are less confusing and no one accidentally forgets a particularly nasty effect. Yes. Again, I think very clean. The new game board, I'll I'll admit I love the old game board. I love it. But I think the new one is on par. I think that they are very very similar. I think that like these are like I think they work well for both. I think that there's like not one that I think is notably better like compared to the boards over here, but I think that this is a the board looks very nice. I think it's a really good translation. I think moving all this stuff down here also like to these boxes makes it feel less board gamey. And I like the terror track as opposed to being here being along the side over there.
Let's take a look at the old versus the new board. The new board is designed to closely resemble an actual map. This way, players can be more immersed in the setting and feel like they're exploring the streets, shops, and other locations. And the other worlds are no longer cut away from the board with a clean line. They are slowly creeping into your space, and you better hurry to get things back on track. So, you can see here like just a straight solid line going across here versus the kind of wibbly wobbly texture we got going over here. The new game board includes a more modern design, but it still prioritizes theme. We've updated the new layout of the city to make it more accurate. So, you'll now find the shops and streets and oblations are positioned the same areas as they are in other Arkham Horror Files games. Um, okay. But of course, to make sure the gameplay itself wouldn't be affected, these changes don't end with the streets of Arkham. Of course, you'll find the sky and outskirts have also found new homes.
So, that's sky and outskirts are over here. They're now up here. And then this is Lost in Time and Space, which is just right down there. Um, yeah, I see I do see what you mean about the diagonal lines. Like just keeping it straight and solid would have been good. And they actually there was no reason why they couldn't have done that. So are things moved around? No, cuz Vilma's Diner is still here. Yeah, Rivertown is still there. Here's French Hill, south side, uptown. No, it looks like everything's in the same place,
but yeah. No, I definitely see what you mean about like the um these could have been straight lines. They probably would have been cleaner if it was uh Mythos cards. Oh, yeah. Here we go. We can actually see this. So I actually think this mythos card is a much is a very big improvement as well. Um we can see here that like so this this stuff you resolve first right so here like let's uh yeah now the most important information is the top when it's time to draw on the mythos phase you have to what needs to be organized from top to bottom left to right so the previous cards position the unique effects ahead of the standard gate clue and movement effects which was always meant to be the most unique parts of the car were front and center. It also made the order of these effects unclear. The new design guides the players resolve the most resolve the basic mythosphase actions before turning their attention to the more dynamic effects of the cards. So, I'm pretty sure Travis always resolved mythos. So, my apologies if I get anything wrong here, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to do this, then this, then this. So, now it's actually in the order that you're supposed to, right?
Because yeah, before it just doesn't actually make sense because you would have to do spawn the gate, move the monsters, do this. But now you spawn the gate, you move the monsters, you do the effect. Much better. Like this is like obviously this is the way it should have been formatted from the beginning, right? Like it looks a lot nicer. Um, you'll find that most of the cards follow the standard formatting, but as we've already shown in previous updates, there are exceptions. We focus on adding thematic dressings to as many cards as we could. ultimately want the players to feel like they're exploring the city, hearing rumors or reading a newspaper headline. And we've done our best to make sure the cards design reflects that, which I think is kind of neat cuz like the headlines in newspaper, which is pretty good. But it looks like no, it looks like these actually change um as well for it. We actually saw it on like some of these other ones.
Um it was on one of these, right? Maybe was it on the first one? I know we saw one with a newspaper headline. Yeah. So, like uh only the rumors are dark and it looks like these other two are not. Like I love the newspaper idea. I think that that's really clever, right? I think that that's really clever. Okay. Another area of special concern we were were the new spell cards. We need to keep the changes here similar simple and deliberate. So yeah, these designs I don't like. Uh this is like my own personal preference, but I think that these are 100 times more engaging. I do think that like the the casting modifier and then the sanity cost being fixed on these is really nice. Right. So you can actually see like so like casting modifier plus four, sanity cost plus two. I think that these being linked into the card design itself is nicer.
Um, I just don't like I don't know. The spell cards are small. Yeah, they're teeny tiny. Cast a spell automatically. Pass that check. Pass one combat check. Yeah, the spell requires successes of the monster's toughness. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Same sort of thing there. Just the formatting is nicer, I think. Uh, keywords are added as applicable. Casting modifiers and handy costs were given more space and special steps which were once implied are now more deliberately stated such as with the ancient ones effect on the bind monster spell. Yeah, this spell doesn't work on ancient ones. When the ancient one is just awakens discard this card. I actually am curious though that does potentially do some mechanical difference if there are ancient ones that eat spells. Maybe Yog does something like that. It's been a while since I played Yog.
But I do think that this is a nice like formatting. The templating is nicer. I do miss this old art though. The guy with his hat. Ooh, egads. Initially updating the graphic design of the new components, we also felt that some of the art in the game could use brand new interpretation. For example, quati ut. So this is his original and then this is his remastered. So I actually think that this is a very interesting thing and this was the last article I actually read. So everything after this is going to be new. While their previous artwork was certainly imposing, want to show a different side of this horrifying ancient one. Their new art better better depicts the effect the ancient one has. Quattly Utas isn't a monster slinking through Arkham. They are being beyond understanding who turns all they touch to dust. This new art is a detailed movement to better capture the exact moment when your investigator is a runin with them. And I don't think they'll be walking away from that encounter. If Qui hasn't scared you off, keep your eyes open for the Inmith Horror expansion.
This is just a small sample of Hunter's new art pieces you'll find throughout Arkham Horror Remastered. We can't wait for fans to get a closer look at more of the new art. We hope you'll find your new favorite pieces of Nightmare Fuel. Uh your new favorite piece of Nightmare Fuel. For the fans of the other Arkham Warfall games, you'll also see familiar pieces of art from your favorites. We're going to see Joe Diamond and all that, but I do think that these this is neat because I think this is provides a different interpretation because this does make Quadlu feel more like a zombie. And Travis always implied that this guy had a little bit more like spice to his lore that never came across. And I think that this kind of makes him feel more imposing, more of an actual like threatening ancient one. Um maybe less of a zombie. I'm not too sure, but I do like this as an idea for making more accurate depictions of these these uh these ancient ones. So yeah, uh they did Yeah. Like look at his [ __ ] face, man.
Uh yeah, these are great. But these have been existed for a while. Okay, I should read this. I was skimming. I'm like, do I have to read this? This looks like homework. Both characters have updated art that has now been used in other Arkham Horror Files games. A big theme of the remaster is to bring the classic game into the current era of Arkham. So, you see a lot of your favorite characters with a literal fresh coat of paint. This translate all the way to the overall art direction. And much of this edition's art design was inspired by the art nuvo style that would have been present in the in agent city during the 1920s. That theme inspired changes in everything from color schemes to the type of lines and shapes that we used in our design and art. Arkham has always been at the intersection between pulp and horrific monstrosities. And the new art tries to bridge that gap so it still breathes as Arkham Horror while hearkening back to the 1920s.
The elegance and uh serenity of art nuvo creates a striking contrast with the unfathomable cosmic horrors depicting the game, reinforcing the love crafting and setting of other worldly nightmares lurking just beneath the surface of our normal world. The color choice was an especially important one to make. The new background color was inspired by aging paper and was chosen because it allowed us to improve the readability of the cards while still fitting the pul a aging pulpy tone of the game. Additionally, it is no it is neutral enough that it still complements the green, blues, and grays that add a darker element to the game. A fitting color palette was chosen for the cards that need a clear distinction, such as items, spells, skills, and allies. I think my beef is that I wish that like like I agree. I think the borders are nice. I think like the borders and stuff are good, but I think my beef is just that I don't like how the header and the text box is the same. I'd rather this be white and this be red. Like this be the red and I think it would still read well enough. But that's just I'm just one guy. That's my opinion.
At the end of the day, we aim to update the design to make things easier to understand. Improve the clarity of sequence events while still making sure the designs fit the era that Arkham Horror takes place in. We're confident the new graphic design will make a better experience for new and old players alike. Something monstrous is coming from the city of Arkham and now be better equipped to conquer those horrors or at the very least go out fighting. Then again, these might look better in paper. Like I think this looks really nice. Like if they all had like the color here, but who knows? All right, great post. That was a good one. All right, Dunich. All right, now we got to look at the expansions. So, this is all new to me. I read the first three, but I haven't read this one. Will you be able to survive the horror? Welcome investigators and beans, sorry, and Eldrich beans alike. We bring you a little teasers to what is coming later in the campaign. Dunich horror is set in the little country town of Dunich just outside Arkham proper. Here a horrific monster lies in wait knowing that one day it will soon be summoned. While tackling the horrors of Arkham, you and your fellow investigators will have to tackle monsters in Dunich for too many of them going into the wrong place. And well, let's just say that you want to make sure you're well stocked up to face the Dunich horror itself.
Yeah. See, like I don't I don't vibe with this. So they have different colors because they have different effects. So the colors represent like different effects. You can actually see them on this where they have different borders going around it, right? So like black is just normal, blue is flying, green is fixed, I think. No fig. No, they're special movement. I think yellow is fixed. But like it's one of these things where I don't know. These just look like I don't know. They just look they're probably the thing I'm least happy with. Like I can live with the item cards, but I don't like the the tokens. I think these look really good. Um, all right. So, yeah, these are the injuries and the the the injuries and madness madness stuff. So, like these are some new mechanics. When your character is defeated, instead of being like killed, you get to draw one of these cards, which I think is very fun to play with.
I love the design on these. I actually think those look really good. A few mechanics are also added to the game, including conditions, madness, injuries, and monsters that stalk the players. Plus, there's more of everything you love to make the game just that much more expansive. Investigators, items, spells, and countless other cards. Let's take a little sneak preview with one investigator and one of the ancient ones. Jacqueline. Fine. So, fun fact. Let me hide this.
See if we have it. They don't have it, but I'm pretty sure Jacqueline had a a misprint where she was called like the the height the fick or something. So, she has a the special ability of pre precognition. She has ability to spend two clo tokens to discard a mythos card without effect and draw again. This can only be done once per turn, but would you rather take the known or the unknown? She's certainly a good investigator to have when you're learning the mythos cards and a great asset to any team. And then we got Abhoth. Abboth does not have any human worshipper worshippers, but it does have three children. You'll be playing with these children instead of cultists and it wouldn't be an ancient one without a special set of powers. Above summons the children of Abhoth, and once all three on the board, the terror level and doom track are both increased.
The fa. Yeah, that was an Eldrich. Okay. Okay. Cross my wires. Nice and simple. Okay, they're keeping these ones nice. Uh, Dunich, it's an all right expansion. I think my favorite of the three was Inmouth, but they all kind of had to be babysat. Like, you kind of all had to babysit the sideboards. So, like all of these have an additional board. Dunich, Kingsport, and Inmouth. They all have Oh my god, we have a lot of updates. Uh, they all have an extra board that you need to babysit. Uh, welcome to investigators and knowledge beans alike. We're going back with another teaser of the expansions for Arkham Horror Remastered. This time we're going to focus on the town of Kingsport. The ancient ones are lurking and soon will be unleashing monsters and mayhem across the quiet little Massachusetts town.
Okay. I like the art on the monsters, but I don't know if I like them. What's that about? Oh, yeah. These are the epic b epic encounter cards, right? These are the Heralds. Fun. Okay. I actually think that these designs look pretty good. Don't know what's on the back of this card, but I never play with the the epic monster stuff that much. In this expansion, there's always more of what you love to complete the expanded gameplay of adding a new town. There's also new mechanics like guardians, rifts, and epic battles. They add even more to your gameplay and make your success your sessions that much more epic. Let's take a look at what kind of Investigators and ancient ones you can expect in this campaign. Let's look at Rex Murphy. Yes, I think Rex Murphy or Rex Murphy might be next on our life of for the Arkham Files cuz his curse is very interesting in all the games across the board. Rex has two special abilities for you to use.
Investigation and family curse. Investigation allows him to gain an extra tulu token when he gains the first one. Makes sense for a reporter to be able to unearth what others might not see. But the family curse, well, unfortunately it means they can only discard a curse when he's blessed. Not everything works out well for the folks of Arkham, but he's certainly a fun asset to any team. We love Rex Murphy here. Achelanaka is worshiped by the lang by the horrific lang spiders. They're speedy and not afraid to take advantage of it. But where would the ancient one be without their special abilities? While Achanaka stirs in her stumble, all gates openings are gate burst and all mystic cards are discarded without their effects taking place. Yeah, that's pretty spooky. So, gate bursts um are like so the goal of the game, one of the ways to win is to seal a number of cards. And gate bursts burst through.
They break away the seal. So, you actually lose game progress. And if you're not a fan of losing game progress, uh that one might not be for you. All right, I'm I'm getting the art of the original Arkhamor second edition Ashelaka because the new Achelanaka is such an improvement. Here's the old one. Old Achelanaka and then new Achelanaka. It looks like it's I remember this one being a pretty big improvement. They can't all be winners. All right. Uh, Inmouth. I think Insouth was my favorite of THE SILUS MARSH LOOKING [ __ ] HOT AS HELL. Is that Finn and Zoe?
This is my favorite of the expansions. In uh, mark your calendar. The wait is almost over. The gates will open on October 21st. Prepare to explore. yada yada yada. Today we're going to be looking at Insmith Horror. Uh, an exciting expansion to Arkham Horror. I'm I wish they showed the boards to be honest in this, but I guess that's when like the game actually comes out. Incidents made a packact long ago to help save the dying town and none of them are very friendly to outsiders, but leaving it unattended is not a great idea. The ancient ones will stir and bring about the ultimate doom if left completely unattended.
Deep one. Shugth. Personal quests. Those don't look too great to me. I like the intimate look cards. Those are kind of neat. The Heralds over here. Not bad. Not bad. Oopsie. In this expansion, there are plot and personal stories added, giving a goal and unique attack for each ancient one. This may sound simple, but it adds an entirely new level to the game that is sure to leave you wanting more. Will you be able to complete the goal? Will you be able to face down the unfriendly people of Inmouth? As always, these big box expansions add more of what you love that include investigators nation ones. We have Minty Fan. Oh, that's a new art for this guy. Min is a secretary at St. Mary's Hospital, but don't let the simple title title fool you. She's able to stand her own. This fan favorite is sure to bring people to the table to play her again and again. She has two two unique abilities, synergy and team player. For synergy, min gains a plus one bonus to all skill checks if she has an ally. And for team player, she may choose one investigator location to gain plus one bonus to all skill checks both until end of turn. Interesting.
And then we have Gennoa who got a pretty big upgrade as well. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised that I mean like they're building a new pile of art. I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy as an ancient one in Arkham Horror the card game in the near future. Uh Ganthoa has a downright nasty power. Each investigator to take a visage token when Gantho stirs in its slumber. Every time an investigator gains two more clue tokens, they must flip the visage token. If the if it has the ancient one on it, they are devoured. And of course, if all of them flip, the tokens have to be reshuffled for the next go around. So yeah, this guy is just like RNG. You get killed. That's how um that's how uh you die to this guy. And that's Archamore second edition. Sometimes you just get devoured and there's not much you can do about it. All right, the Miscatonic expansion.
So, this one was kind of like the expansion expansion. It expanded on all of the expansions that existed. We've given you a little preview of each expansion, and this one's completely unique. It's an expansion for all the other expansions. Told you. That's much more content to your current game. Every bit of the game is added on, plus a new mechanic. Institutions are just like guardians, but without the supernatural flare. These are everyday things that can help you and your fellow investigators get through something just a little bit easier than they could before. I've actually never played with one of these, so I can't talk about them too much. Ooh. Okay.
Okay. I like how they look though. Yeah, I actually don't know about the flip for Genon though, even though he was one of the ones we've played recently. I actually don't remember. But maybe they made him a little bit less bad. A little I mean, I wouldn't find I wouldn't mind some like refinement on RNG, but who knows? And when we say a little bit everything, we truly do mean it. There's something for every expansion. In the total adds nearly 450 new cards, including new mythos, gain of skill cards, and increased variety and replay-ability in every session for the base box alone. It also enhances the other expansions with new injuries, madness, epic battles, cult encounters, relationships, and location decks, making existing mechanics appear more often and feel more interconnected. It also makes running multiple expansions just that much smoother with the contents that it offers. You want to have this as part of your collection to make sure you have the best Arkham game that you can. Um, I mean like I don't know which expansions had like the relationships.
Maybe that was King'sport, but I loved those cards. I think that those are like a must having like the relationship cards. All right. All the small things. So, these are going to be the small boxes. We're now going to talk about talk Cosmic Horror. This expansion preview is a little different from our others. This one will feature all the other small expansions bundled into one big box. That's right. We're taking their main for expansion, compressing them into one box to make the storage, organization, and everything else that much easier. These expansions may not have ancient ones or investigators, but they have just about everything else centered on four heralds that bring a lot to the game. So, looks like uh the black goat of the woods has been replaced by the child of paradise. Ah, they switched it to the guy up in Quebec.
Mane Arat, the the guy from War of the Outer Gods, Dark Pharaoh, King in Yellow, Key in the Gate. I think these cards look good. You might be wondering, do they just have a bunch of text on them? Yeah, they're just text. You may notice that some have a new look or even a new name, but rest assured all gameplay remains intact. Now, whether you're wanting more spells, items, allies, heralds, monsters, and more, you'll be sure to find that here with cosmic horror. Unlike other expansions, these do not introduce a new sideboard, but they are heavily them heavily thematic, and each adds a unique mechanics like exhibit encounters, which I love, plus incursions of the dark pharaoh and dark past that deeply tie into the base game or any big expansion.
Yeah, I I personally have no problem with uh changing Shubby into something else like um the Chaos Cha Chaosium Chaosium like just changed it to Shub Garath like they just had that announcement. I I understand it. I understand it. I mean, I I'm also of the belief that like like it's a time capsule, right? Like it's like one of those things where like I but I understand modern companies don't want to [ __ ] with that. So like I have no beef with it. Um personally, but it's it's one of those things where like I feel like I don't know. It's complicated. It's a complicated thing. Like I have no problem with it, but it's like one of those things where it's like
it's like using a bunch of other stuff and then like not shining on that one, right? Um but it's it's like one of those Yeah, it's it's it's complicated. It's complicated, but I I have no beef with it personally. And I think like using their their egg baby from Montreal is I think a totally fine replacement. Exhibit counters are cool. Oh, the new theater cards for King and Yellow look kind of cute. Those kind of look kind of cute with like the curtains membership. Yeah. So, like it looks like the whole um Shubby expansion is getting a full redesign on that.
Yeah. So, you're just going to be all in on that one. You look forward to our larger update about this expansion later when we go into deeper detail to show you all the new wonderful updates [snorts] that are coming your way to Arkham Horror Remastered. The knowledge is looming. Okay. All right. Last update here. The horrors are deep and unknown.
Today we give a little sneak preview of this epic timehonored game when with a look at some investigators and nation ones waiting within the core box. New to our Arkham, welcome aboard and get ready to learn a little bit of the lore. We have three other articles coming up, so be sure to stay tuned. Without further ado, here's our heroed yet heroic investigators part one. Okay, so this is just lore stuff. Oh, we actually can see what they look like without that. That's kind of neat. I do love the Michael McGlennis abilities. Just when you would lose stam uh when you lose stamina reduce that amount by one get hit not that much. Nice and simple. Yeah, I like this. And you can see the back store on these ones.
Yeah, the investigator boards are really nice. He's got a tough guy with a strong body. Sister Mary, when you had become lost in time and space, instead if you were driven insane, uh, move to Arkham Asylum. If you were knocked unconscious, move to St. Mary's Hospital. Otherwise, return to the South Church. Yeah. So, she can never get lost in time and space to lose a bunch. Also, by the way, um, you might be looking at this and you be like, "Wait a minute. Does uh, Michael McGlenn only have three sanity?" Yes.
Yes, this guy only has three. So, like where the little like and she only has three stamina where the little like uh diamond is, that's their starting amount. So, anything in the gray they do not have, which means that if you play Cthulhu, who lowers everybody's stats, they're each going to only have two, which means they're going to die. And again, this is just kind of like all of the kind of like quote unquote like unfair part. I've been saying quote unquote a lot today. I guess just it's just like my my word of the day today is that one. But I think that like it's the unfair part of Arkham War second edition for sure. But it's kind of why I love it. It's kind of why I love it. Vincent Lee upkeep. You may choose one investigator in your space to recover one stamina.
Oh, I like the little upkeep thing there. I think these boards look so good. Like these are super clean. I think they look great. Mandy Thompson. When investigator makes a check, you may allow that investigator to reroll each die that did not result in a success. Limit once per round. Yeah, that's pretty good. Good ability. Ancient ones. Yeah. See, here's the dream of madness. While Cthulhu stirs in his slumber, each investigator's maximum sanity and maximum stamina reduced by one. So, she becomes a 44. He becomes a 44. She becomes a 62. He becomes a 6-2. That's brutal. It's tough. It's tough, but it's it's kind of the fun challenge of the game. Well, maybe think again. Yeah, Cthulhu will surely be the one that you would like to tackle out of the box, right?
Well, maybe think again. While Cthulhu stirs in a stumble slumber, each maximum sanity and stamina are reduced by one. Um, this uh I recommend if you were looking at starting the game, um, the person you're going to want to start with, what's up with Cthulhu's weird sludge arm? You guys see this [ __ ] Um, is I would recommend everyone start with Aithoth. He's generally the easiest one to play. Is this replacing the current Arkham stuff? No. This is a a a remaster of Arkham Horror Second Edition, a game that came out in 2005 that is now out of print. That's the gross plasticity art. It is the gross plasticity art. What [snorts] the hell? So, this one I actually think that original Cthulhu had fantastic art and they should have just used that one again. I think this is actually one of my favorite pieces of Cthulhu art.
I think that that one's like really, really, really nice. Hastur. Yeah, good old art. Um, I think this Haster Art is so much better than the Hastur in Arkham Horror Second Edition, and it's not even worth the time of day. Uh, the King Yellow. While Hastur is in his slumber, the number of clues required to seal the gate is increased by three. It becomes eight then, right? It's five. That's pretty spicy. Yeah, this is classic Arkham.
Yeah. Okay. I mean, these last ones are nice and easy. We just got to look at cards. I like I like it. Honestly, the these cards all look good. And overall, I actually I'm pretty excited. Like again, I I don't think I can think I can buy this. I don't think it's a wise decision in terms of space and uh space and finance. I just don't think it's the way to do it. Um because I have my original look and it works well. But honestly, I like a lot of what I see here. I think it looks really good. My only beef for the monster tokens and the like some of the like slight designs on the mini cards, right? Um it's one of those things where um it's I think overall it looks good. Azoth is not the easiest one in the third edition. Yeah. No, this is second edition though.
And like in third edition it's definitely the Udmar Dothoth one, but in this it's Oh, I wonder if we're going to see Udmaroth as a as a ancient one. If they're going to make some new content, I think that'd be cool. But in this one, it's definitely Aithoth. Yig is also pretty easy if I remember correctly cuz I remember going into Eldrich Horror and being surprised that Yig was so hard because Yig was kind of just free in second edition. But Yig and Aithoth are my recommendations for second edition for sure. If you are going to start out, don't play Cthulhu first. He will make you have a worse time. So, just don't do that. Just don't don't do that [ __ ] All right. Well, thanks for watching everybody. I'll do another one of these probably when it goes live or like in the campaign. Like 15 days is I mean it's a long time to put out another video and I like these to be a little bit longer. But thanks for watching everybody. Have a good one. And as always, a GG's.
