Twittens | Solo Playthrough
Transcript
Hi everybody and welcome to a new solo playthrough video. Today we're going to be playing Twittens. It is a game by Paul Stapleton. Um if you don't know, I really enjoy Paul Stapleton's games. I have played The Crows of Copper Shell Bay. There's a playthrough of that on my channel as well if you want to check that out. Um and now we are back with a little bit of a bigger game by Paul Stapleton. So, I'm very excited. I also have the Siege of Shadow Horn ready to play as well. Um, so watch out for that. But for now, we're going to play Twittens. I'm so excited. This game is right up my alley, and I think a lot of you will enjoy it, too. So, let's play. This is everything for the solo setup. Now, beware. The solo is definitely different from the main game. Um, most of the game play is the same, but the solo plays more as like of a campaign style, which Paul Stapleton, thank you. Thank you so much for existing and making it this way because that is right up my alley and I absolutely love it. So, in um we have these cards for every season. These Bimble cards are our scoring cards. So, these are two of the bimble cards that I've drawn for this uh game for this turn. We are playing the month of April right now. So, when you play, let me show you. Oh, we're playing March. I apologize. Skipping March because who wants to who wants to play
March, you know? Boring. Um, so we are playing through spring first. So, this is the scoring booklet for the solo. There is a separate scoring booklet for the main game which is still in the wrapper because I haven't needed it yet. Um, so we are playing March, April, May, and then you move on to summer which has different cards. This you will use all the seasonal cards in the main game in like the multiplayer game. Um, so then you do June, July, August, then you go to um autumn and then obviously to winter. So, you're playing through all the seasons. Um, for the month of May, March. Oh my god, we're doing every month except March. My brain. So, March, we need to score 35 points. That's the goal. We have a bunch of different scoring elements as well as our Bimble cards. These will score us uh points at the bottom. So, six or seven. But if we don't complete the objective on these cards, they will be minus points. So, we need to be very very careful.
Um, and yeah, we have a bunch of different scoring abilities or scoring options. We have houses, trees, street lights, roads, railways, we have school, and then we have this, which I don't remember the name of. It's like a little like community garden style vibe. And then the bimble cards. We will go over all those scoring things um when we while we're playing and I will explain it. So, we have our two um bimble guards, which is basically one of the most important things to score points for. So, we want six tiles with no scrubs. And the scrubs are these more like yellowy patches of um land. And we want to have three houses, one adjacent to a tree, one adjacent to a pond, and one adjacent to a scrub. So, we're going to try to do that. We have one tile uh separately from the rest.
This is our favorite tile. I've chosen this at the start of the game um off camera. Um and we can place this uh in one of our turns. Um I chose it because it has a scrub on it for the house. We're going to try to to see it if we can make that work. We also have three animals here helping us. This is exclusive to the solo. Um, they have special abilities that can help us throughout the game. Um, and I will get to those as well while we play. I might do a whole series of this, play through all the seasons, uh, because I do think that would be very fun. Um, I guess we'll we'll see how you guys like this and if I'm going to do more. Um, we're playing against the Wanderer. The Wanderer doesn't score points on his own, but he just simulates another player taking tiles. Um, and that's basically it. We're going to try to make a a twitten. Um, a beautiful twitten is what we're going to do. And, uh, a twiten is these like little narrow paths between houses, like, you know, little little like sneaky paths, you know, in between the the trees and the houses.
That's what a twitten is. And a bimble. I love this is now one of my favorite words. Um, a bimble is like walking with no purpose. So, kind of like a stroll, but just wandering around aimlessly, just going on a bimble. And that's just a great word and I love it and I'm going to use that for the rest of my days. So, on a turn, we can either choose one of these tiles to place into our Twit. We can draw the top two tiles and choose one of those to play into our Twitton or we can choose our favorite tile. So, we have three options for now because obviously once I've placed this, that option will no longer be available during this game. Um, so let's see. We do want some houses going and we want six tiles with no scrub. So, I feel like this is actually a pretty good start. I do I should mention it is a it has a push your luck element where we can only have seven houses in our twitten that's very important. So once we've reached seven houses, um if we go over that, so if we like draw two tiles and they both have a house and we're already at seven, meaning that would make it eight houses if I place that tile, then you like bust and you won't score points for the houses. You will still score points for
all the other elements, just not for houses. But we do would love those seven points if we can. Okay, we will refill the the market and now we will do a wanderer's turn. So, let's see. So, they're going to take uh the top two cards and they're going to choose one of them. So, they can either do one with a transport link. Neither has one because that's either a road or a railroad. An amenity. This is an amenity. So, they're going to take this tile. I'm putting it off to the side because it doesn't matter that they take it. This leftover tile is going to get placed on the left right here like so. So, it will also allow us some more um options, which is great. So, I'm thinking we could place out our card here making, you know, a house next to um a tree. I' I'd rather try to place the shrub next to it, but I don't think we can. You have to place you have to connect the roads because you you can't place it.
Like for example, if I had this here, you cannot do that. Illegal. You need to connect the roads together. So, maybe I should save this one because we can't really place a house next to this shrub and we need six tiles with no scrubs. So, maybe we take this one. Um, and then that's actually really good. Then we have a house next to a pond and a house next to a tree because this doesn't count as adjacent because the road is in between. We need it to be like in the same like grass area. I think that's really good. We're going to do that for now. We already have three houses though. We need to keep an eye on that. Okay. They're going to draw two tiles again. Uh a transport link. Nope.
An amenity. They both have an amenity, so they're not going to choose it. Uh the most scrubs. They both have zero the most street lights. So this one and this one will go on the right. So this is a school. Once you place a tile with the school, you're allowed to draw two new bimble cards and choose one of them. That could obviously be great. It could also be scary. But I do like the look of that tile because it has no scrubs on it. So we might just grab that um and see where we can place it. you get points for uh the tree points are your biggest group of trees. So, I might do this trying to, you know, get some more trees together. This might be the biggest group already because we're not going to be placing tiles here most likely. So, let's draw two bimble cards.
So, let's see. A substation that can reach three scrubs. H, I don't love that. A road adjacent to an amenity. Okay, this this road gives easy access to the nearby facilities. Ooh, that's scary. We're going to do that one and hopefully we can score it. Oh my god, that is scary. Okay. Um once you score one of the um bimble cards, you just flip it around. So, okay, let's go to the wanderer. Wanderer's turn. He's going to draw two again. He does have an he does have a different card than this, but the most wildlife. No wildlife. A transport link.
There isn't one. A dw pond. No dupond. The fewest houses. And this one will go here. Um okay. It is our turn. So, can we make We can't really make this this happen. Can I could go this way? I kind of like that. Um, trying to maybe make even a bigger group of trees somehow. That could be really good. Let's just do Let's just do that for now. I and then I'd like that tile to be honest, but we'll see if we're able to to snatch that. The school also gets points for every house adjacent to the school because it's a school. So, that's another way to score points. Um, all right. The wanderer will go. Let's move this over here because we have a bit more room that way. Okay. Let's see. An amenity. Doesn't have the fewest trees.
This one has the fewest trees. And this is going to go on top here. That's a little bit sad. Um, we're drawing like the same type of tiles. Um, but it's all right. We could also go for this one. H, but that really I don't like that it's a closed road. We could Yeah, we can't really make that work, can we? We could put it here, but then I'd rather put houses next to a school. What we might do is draw two and choose one. We also have our animals which would, for example, the bird allows us to draw four tiles and then choose one of them. Um, and we also have the fox that allows us to draw two. Place those on the two drawing piles and then draw two again. Um, so that's also giving you a bit more of like a reset.
Um, and then the little lizard is for the bimble cards. We might use the lizard if we really can't accomplish things, but let's just see how how this goes. Oh, this is the school. I'm so stupid. This is the playground. So, I I wasn't allowed to draw that bimble card. I'm so sorry. I got the school confused with the playground. You know, a school, a playground. That's like one end. That's like the same thing to me. So, I think what we're going to have to do it does, the playground does score houses. That is correct. Yes. So, the playground scores for each adjacent house. And the school doesn't score you anything, but you can draw two bimble cards and keep one. So, what we're going to do is we're going to place the school uh because we need to rectify our mistake. This we're I'll just place this one on there.
Um, let's see where we can place this in a nice way. We could just put it here. Doesn't really matter much. Um, and we have now one, two, three, four, five houses, though. That is That is a scary number already. It goes so quickly with the houses. It's It's scary business. Um, we now have four tiles with no scrub. So, we need two more. Okay. So, they're going to take this tile. This doesn't have a scrub, which is good for us. Um, but it does have a house going up to six houses, which is scary.
But if I draw from the from here, it might just both have scrubs, you know. We still need to make a house adjacent to a scrub. We could do that here with this one. Maybe we should just do this. Anyways, it doesn't have houses, which is nice. It does close off this road, but I think that's fine. And then at least we have this one done. Okay, we refill because there can never be an empty stack. Um, and now we do the wanderer. Okay, they're going to take this one. Okay. Um, I do like I do like that tile, but it does have a house, but it doesn't have a scrub, which is good.
We could just draw two from the top. That's just scary, you know? It's a gamble. It's a gamble because it could just have two houses. Both of them could have two houses and then we'd be at seven, which doesn't mean we have to stop, but it makes it scarier, of course. So, um, and we need we need two more tiles without a scrub. So, let's just put this one here. I don't I don't love that. But it's all right. Okay, we're doing it. The wanderer. Okay, they both have an amenity, the most trees. So, this one is going to go here.
It does have a scrub, so that's not not nice for us. Um, so this is the the little what do they call it? An allotment. And the allotment is kind of the same as the playground, but instead of scoring points for houses, it scores points for adjacent trees. Um, so those are kind of the same. I think we're going to use our bird uh drawing four tiles, and then we get to choose one of them. So, let's see. We want one that doesn't have a scrub on it. So, let's see if there is one. Oh, there is. And it doesn't even have a house. That's amazing. Do I just put the rest on the bottom? Yes. Return the rest to the bottom of the deck. Ooh, I love that. We do need to see where we can place it. Um, I could place it here as well.
Kind of like that. It will be out of frame. Let me move the animals over here. I mean, that's good. I think it's not bad. So, do we now have six without a scrub? One, two, three, four. Yes. Five, six. So, we have scored at this. Um, we haven't really found a road yet, which minus nine points is not I don't like that at all. So, what we can do is we can discard an uh any amount of incomplete bimble cards from your hand and then draw that amount uh from the deck, which is a risk still, but I feel like this is a difficult one. So, let's do it. So, we're going to discard this one and we're going to draw a new one. A school that can reach three duponds.
It can already reach one. So we might we we do need to like make this road like happen because it reaching means it has to be able to be in the same like green area so that it this school can reach like this whole green area if that makes sense. So this road like blocks it off. Oh boy, that is scary. Okay, let's see if we can make that happen. I'm going to just move these bimble cards. We're probably not going to draw anymore. Um, we still have five houses, so we could we could make this work. Okay, we're going to draw the wanderer. If the deck of wanderer cards runs out, we then lose the opportunity to choose from the two piles. The piles will go away and we only have the option to draw from the top of the deck, which is scary. So, they're going to take that one. Um, we have a new that is a pond. It has one house. We're doing it. So, this is going to go right here. So, now the school can reach two ponds. We have a bunch of lizards. Look at all of these lizards.
Isn't that just fun? Um, all right. And then we're going to do this one. Oh, we need to So, this is what they're going to take. There we go. That's a little bit sad. That's a good card for me. I'm going to draw. Okay. So, no pawns uh here, but that's also just fine because this is going to disappear. So, we have to do two from the top and then choose. No, I don't like that. Oh boy. We just need one pond, you guys. We just need one. Okay. So, we're not going to choose the two houses. So, that's going to go. So, we are choosing this one.
Let's move this again. Here we go. Okay. So, where are we going to put this? I could put it here. Um, and we have another tree next to the aotment, which is good. And then we hopefully So we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Oh, we already have eight houses. No, no, I forgot. I forgot we were at seven already. Oh no, I should have realized. Oh boy. Well, then we might have just not done that final turn, actually. Oh man, we have to stop either way. Gh, that's so sad. Okay, well, it is hard. It is not an easy game, let me tell you. Okay, so let's just say cuz you can decide to stop um when you like don't want to push your luck anymore with the houses. So, let's say I did notice I have seven houses. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Yeah. So, we're we're stopping now and we're going to count points.
All right. So uh let me just what we can also do before we count our points um with the animals you can reset them. So, I've used two and at the end of the season, so at the end of May, all the animals will will reset. But during the season, so during spring, the only way to reset them is to look at the animals in your uh twiton. Um, and if you have three of the same, so I do have three lizards, you can reset that animal or you can do just four ones of any kind. If I'd rather reset the bird, I could be like, "Oh, I'll use these like three wizard three. I'll just use these three lizards and this fox to reset the bird."
So, we can do one of them. Um, I think I'd rather reset the bird, I think. So, let's do let's do that. So, just so you guys know how the birds or the animals work. Um, so we have this uh little guide to the scoring. Um, so I have seven points for houses. That is the max. You can have eight houses if you have a substation. So let's see. That was a substation. So this is a substation. It doesn't do anything uh besides giving you the ability to have eight houses instead instead of seven like the school. The school does nothing except giving you uh an additional bimble card. Um our biggest group of trees is just three. So three. I did not pay any attention to the street lights. I think the street lights is one of the most difficult things to score. You score for each street light if you have the same amount of tiles as you do street lights. So I have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine tiles. And I have one, two, three, four, five, six street lights. So, I don't score points for that. So, zero. I don't have a road and I don't have a railway. So, no points.
Um, the road scores points uh for let's see. Uh, oh yeah, if it's at the end of your Twit, so if it's like at the edge, you score five points for every road that's at the edge. And this the railway station scores points for every animal that it can reach. Um, but we don't have any of those. We have this school which has one house. So, three points per house. So, that's just three. And then we have this um aotment which scores us three points for this tree. Wow, this is a really bad turn you guys. So, we do have two bimbles that we did score [clears throat] and then we have one sadly that we did not score. So, we just get five points. five because what they do is like um so 13 minus 8 is five.
So this is a very sad score. You guys look at this. [gasps] That's so horrendous. I've never scored this bad. So six to 21 points. Well, you know, it's fine. I'm just showcasing you guys the game. So, you know, no big deal. No big deal at all. It's fine. I don't mind. Well, but that is Twitten. Um I would now not be able to continue uh with the next month because I failed. So, I'd have to start this month again. Um but if you want to see me play this um and do multiple seasons, let me know. Uh I absolutely love this game. I think it's so great. I love the tile placement. There's so many different scoring options. Um, but you're trying to obviously pay attention to the houses, to your bimbo cards, and it's just difficult to do everything. Um, but it is very fun and I really enjoy the artwork, the way it plays. I think it's a wonderful, wonderful game. Um, I think it works. I think it's a great multiplayer as well as a solo. I haven't played it multiplayer yet, but I think it would be wonderful uh multiplayer as like a cozy tile placement. Um, but yeah, absolutely loved it. And I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I'll see you guys soon with a new video. Bye.
