Ringyō - Teach & Playthrough
Transcript
Hi everyone, my name is Monique
and I'm Naveen from Before You Play
and today we're going to be doing a playthrough of a game that is currently on Kickstarter called Ringo.
Yes, this game is designed by Charlie McCarron and published by Paverson Games who are helping sponsor this playthrough. Now, in this game, players are taking on the roles of feudal lords during the Edeto period of Japan. We have our own personal provinces that we have to manage so that we can ultimately satisfy the demands of the shogun and score the most amount of honor points.
That's right. This is a simultaneous action selection game for one to four players in which players will need to manage our workers so that we can perform various actions around our province board that'll include things such as planting and cutting trees, building structures, and of course studying the forest. And so today at Fusual, we are going to start with a teacher of the game and go straight into our two-player playthrough. If you'd like to jump around, we'll include timestamps in the description below.
Now, we have to mention this is a prototype copy of the game, so things of course are subject to change. If you're interested in campaign, there's going to be a link in the description which you can check out. And lastly, if you like these kind of videos and you want to see more in the future, please consider subscribing.
And with that, we are ready to begin. So, if you please direct your attention to the center of the table, we're all set up here for a two-player game of Ringo. Welcome to our provinces. Yep.
Now, like we're mentioning in this game, we are feudal lords who are trying to manage our provinces that are filled with trees. And with these trees, we are going to send out our workers in the form of various samurai artisans as well as villagers to the various areas of our province so that they can assist us in cutting and planting trees. We are going to need to build rice patties. With these trees, we'll be building structures. We'll also be studying the various trees in order to go up our research boards and gain bonuses. And at the end of each round, we'll be using these various resources to fulfill the demands of the Shogun. And at the end of five rounds, the player who is able to score the most honor points by doing all of these things in the most efficient way possible wins the game.
Yes, but it's not going to be that simple. Every round, we are going to have to deal with a significant amount of rain that's going to come and go onto our board. Ultimately, we have to deal with floods that might ruin all of our plans.
But if you plan wisely, then we can use the rains to our advantage and grow some rice. So then, like I was mentioning, the game is played over the course of five rounds and each round is split into four phases, starting with the Edeto Council phase. During round setup, we're going to reveal a number of these Shogun's gift cards equal to the number of players. And they will basically provide players with a bonus specifically for this round. Now, each player has a hand of six of these diplomat cards. And during this phase, we are going to simultaneously choose one and reveal them at the same time. And these cards will basically determine our priority turn order for the round. as well as the order in which we choose the Shogun's gift cards. In addition, these diplomat cards give you a bonus at the top right hand corner. As an example, this number three over here gives me three rice with the exception of the five and the six. The five has no bonus and the six in order to play it requires you to pay two rice. Now, when played, these cards are going to stay face up in your play area. So, you will not get them back, which means over the course of the game, you'll be able to see which cards other players have played so that you can make an informed decision.
And now, because I played a lesser number, I would technically be going second in turn order. My bonus here would get me a temporary worker, which is an artisan, so that would be a red worker. Uh, some other bonuses that you might see are the number four here. This is a villager. Uh, also a temporary worker. And then this one right here, this gets you a bonus land tile, which helps you expand out your province, which we'll talk about in a little bit. Now, in the case of a tie, tied players invert their priority order from the previous round. So, in this example, because I played a higher number, I would get to choose first. And during this phase, I would have the option of choosing between gaining an artisan or being able to flip two of my flood tiles on my province board to their rice patty side, which will make sense later. Once that's done, then we move into the province phase, and this is the main part of the round. During this phase, players are going to assign workers to the various intersections on their board in order to take actions. Now, one thing to note is that this phase is done simultaneously. So, all players can just take all of their actions at once until you're basically finished taking actions. Because we are demonstrating the game, we are going to take our actions in turn order, but we'll perform all of our actions when it's our turn to go.
And so, because of this, our gameplay video will probably be longer than an actual true gameplay would take. Now general our province boards are comprised of various areas and each area is composed of a specific type of tree species and there are four different types. There are the yellow beach trees, the green pine, this light blue cyprress as well as the orange oak trees. And during this phase, our main goal is to either study the trees in order to go up our research boards and build structures by cutting down trees in order to turn them into fortresses as well as farms. Now, you have to be careful not to cut down too many trees because leaving blank spaces on your boards will leave you vulnerable to the rains and create flooding in your province.
Right now, each player starts the game with two yellow samurai, and these are one of the four different types of workers in the game. Each worker has lines on them that indicate how many actions they can take when you place them out onto your board. However, only the yellow and the green samurai are considered to be permanent workers, which you'll get back at the end of each round in order to use again in the next round. The red artisans as well as the blue villagers are temporary workers that you must spend basically back into the supply after use. Now, when taking actions during this phase, you'll need to choose a worker and place them onto your province board. And when doing so, they must be placed at the intersection of three different areas, which means you are not allowed to place them along an edge here that does not have an additional land tile or at the bottom because they must touch three areas and each intersection can only hold one worker. Yellow samurai allow you to take two actions, but when doing so, they must be in different adjacent areas.
So, with the same worker, you can never take more than one action in one area.
And in this game, there are eight different types of actions. We have a cheat sheet, so you do not need to memorize this, but just so you're aware, not all workers can do all actions. So, let's just go ahead and briefly talk about the main four actions that all workers can take. First, the first type of basic action that all workers can take is the plant action. And this allows you to add a tree of height one to an adjacent area that is either empty or that has a flood token. And when choosing an area with a flood token, you'll actually remove it.
Now, this may be self-explanatory, but you must grow the appropriate species on the appropriate space,
right? And planting on flooded areas is going to be really key to managing these flood tiles. Similarly, the next type of action is the grow action that allows you to add one segment on top of an existing tree, but to a maximum height of five. And the reason why we're going to want to plant and grow trees in addition to just controlling the floods is because in order for us to progress up our research track, we're going to need to study specific tree species of specific heights. And in order for us to build structures, we're going to need to cut down specific tree structures of specific heights in various combinations. So the next type of action is the cut action. Now when taking the cut action, you're going to remove the entire tree from an adjacent space and place it into your storage area. And so if it's not apparent, this is a height three pine tree. In order to build these structures, you will need to have the required combinations in your storage area of those specific sizes. So in addition to the main actions, there are also a few special actions, and I'll just talk about two of them now. The first one is being able to split a tree into two segments. This is free. You can do this at any time during the province phase. You could even do them in between two actions that you're taking with a single worker. And this basically allows you to take a tree that's in your storage and split it into two segments of whatever height you'd like.
Now, on the other hand, if you would like to join two trees together that are in your storage area, you must pay one rice. So, if I had split a tree like this, or maybe if I had cut down two trees of a height one and two, but I really needed a height of three, I can pay one rice, which is a very important resource in the game. And we have our rice track up here. So, you just pay a single rice in order to combine the tree segments together.
And again, another obvious thing, you can only combine like type tree species.
Yes. And we'll talk about the other special actions later. Now, going back to the worker actions in the game, before we talk about the last basic action that all workers can take, I'm going to jump to this action here, which only the artisans and samurai can take. And this is being able to create a rice patty. And again, the artisan is the red temporary worker, and the samurai are the yellow and green permanent workers. Creating a rice patty allows you to flip a flood token to the opposite side, which will allow you to gain rice during the province phase, as well as when it rains in that area. Now again, in order to create a rice patty, you will have to assign a worker to an intersection that is adjacent to that area. And then you'll have to take one of their actions to create the rice patty by flipping over that flood token. And now that I have a rice patty, the last basic action allows you to harvest from that rice patty, gaining you a single rice. But again, when taking actions with a single worker, you cannot use the same area twice. So if I use this worker to create the rice patty, I could not also harvest with this worker. Now, over the course of the game, you'll have the option of building a farm on top of these rice patties. And when harvesting, these farms gain you two rice. Speaking of building, the next type of action is the build action. And this is another one that the villagers cannot take, only artisans and samurai. And this action allows you to build either a farm or a fortress onto your province board by turning in a specific combination of trees from your storage area. So again, these trees had to have been cut down from your province. Now, each player has a structure board with a total of 12 structures. And at the start of the game, only the bottom four structures
are available for you to build. So, as an example, if I wanted to build this structure over here, I would have to turn in pine trees of height two, as well as a beach tree of height three. And if I'm able to do so, then I would exchange this token for either a fortress or a farm. In addition, at the end of the game, I would score four honor points, which is listed on the structure. And again, the structure that you build must be in a space that's adjacent to your worker who is taking the action. If you choose to build a fortress, fortresses must be built on empty spaces. And during the weather phase, which is the next phase of the round, each player will gain a military token for each fortress that they have on their province board. And as a special action, three military tokens can be spent in order to expand our province. we would be allowed to draw basically two of these bonus land tiles and place one of them onto a space that's adjacent to our province. And when placed, these tiles must be touching two areas of your province board. So, you can only have at most eight of them because they're going to go along the sides of your board. And they will come populated with whatever is in the center of the tile. In this example, it's two of these pine trees.
And in addition to spending them to expand your province, military tokens will also be needed in order to fulfill some of these shoguns demand tiles, which we'll talk about in a second. On the other hand, farms are built on rice patties. So right now, this is a flood token. So I would not be allowed to build a farm there yet. But if instead I had placed this worker here, I could build a farm on top of this rice patty. And now whenever I gain rice from this space for any reason, I'll gain two rice instead of just one. Now, going back to the structure board, there are also various bonuses that you can unlock. As soon as you build the last structure in a row, then you unlock the bonus that's on the right. So, in the case of this, this is going to gain you a yellow samurai for the rest of the game because again, these are permanent workers. This row, as an example, will gain you two artisans. As soon as you build the last structure in a column, then you unlock the bonus that's at the top of the column. And in the case of the top two rows, as soon as you build two structures that are adjacent to each other, then you immediately gain the bonus that's shown in between them. So, they're kind of tiny here, but they're going to be stuff such as rice or military tokens. And in some cases, you'll be able to draw a forestry card.
Now, forestry cards look like this. We have a whole deck of them. They basically let you do whatever it says. There's a wide variety of them. This one, as an example, allows you to remove up to three flood tokens from your province, which is really nice. Alternatively, each forestry card can be just discarded for two rice, but it must be during this province phase. And to be clear, when building structures from your playerboard, as soon as you build a structure, you are now eligible to build the structures that is adjacent to them, following the lines.
Yes. So, now that Monnique has built this very far right one on the bottom row, she is now eligible to build this one as long as she spends these particular tree combinations from her supply. Once she builds that, then Monnique has the opportunity to then continue building up or she can now start in this row going to the left.
And that's essentially it for the build action. Now, the final two actions in the game can only be performed by samurai. And again, these are going to be the yellow or the green workers. The first one is the muster action that requires you to be adjacent to a fortress in your province. And this allows you to gain two military tokens from that fortress. So, this is a nice way to gain more of these if you don't want to wait for the next phase. And finally, the last type of action is the other main sort of goal in the game. And this action allows you to study an adjacent tree in order to advance up your forestry track board, which will gain you bonuses along the way, as well as unlock endgame scoring for the trees that are left over in your province at the end of the game. Each time you take the study action to advance up your board, you must follow the arrows that are adjacent to your token. So, for the first advancement, I can either choose to advance to the left, to the right, or directly up. Now, in order to advance to a space, you must first study an adjacent tree of one of the two options on its space. So, as an example, if I wanted to advance to this space here to the left, then I would have to either study a pine tree of height one or a cypress tree of height one. And when taking the study action, these trees do not get removed from your board. You are just like looking at them. Then I would immediately gain the bonus of its space, which in this example allows me to peek at one of the weather cards. And the importance of this will be clear once we talk about the next phase. Some bonuses allow you to gain additional workers from the supply. Other bonuses gain you research tokens. And these are important because as a special action, you can
always spend one of these to also peak at a forecast card.
And there's also a Shogun tile that will require you to hoard those and basically spend them for points.
And some spaces will allow you to draw a Shogun's favor card. They'll actually allow you to draw two of them and choose one. And these are basically private endgame scoring cards. So, as example, mature forests requires you to have rows in your province with one or more four plus height trees. And the number of times you're able to fulfill this will determine the amount of points that you get. So, if you have five rows with this criteria, you'll score 13 points. Now, during setup, each player will draw two of these and keep one. So, you will have one to start the game. But by the end of the game, if you have more than three of them, you're only ever allowed to score three of them max. And the last benefit that you'll gain by progressing up this track is by unlocking these endgame points for the trees that are left over on your province board. If your marker is able to pass this first threshold, then you'll score one point for each tree that's height four or taller. If you pass the second threshold, then it's one point for three or taller. And reaching the very topmost space here gains you one point for each two or taller. And these are cumulative. So, if I'm able to reach this topmost space, then that means each tree that's left over that's height four and taller will score me three points each. And in the case of these spaces where the tree is in white, it can be any species of tree, but the specific height that is shown there. And those are all eight of the different types of actions in the game.
The last type of special action that you can take is hiring a villager. So, basically anytime during this phase, you can spend two rice to just hire a basic villager that just gains you one action. And again, this phase is simultaneous and you can assign your workers in any order and you'll basically just keep on assigning them until you're finished taking actions. And as soon as all players have finished taking actions for the round, then we'll move into the weather phase where all players will first take one military token for each fortress that's in their province. And then we will flip over and resolve each of the three forecast cards from top to bottom. Now, forecast cards look like this. They'll either show a specific tree or they'll show a specific letter that pertains to a specific tree that is on the weather card for the round. Now, each time we resolve a card, this basically indicates that we are going to have heavy rain in those specific areas on our province board. And this rain is going to do something depending on what is in those spaces. As an example, this first card here shows heavy rain is going to be falling on the cypress spaces, which are these light blue spaces. The first thing that happens is if there are trees in those spaces, each space will grow by a height of one. And again, each tree can only grow to a max of five. So I would technically also grow these two trees. Then if any spaces have rice patties and so if this space, as an example, was flipped to its rice patty side. Or if it had a farm, then I would gain rice for that space. However, if the space was either empty or it contained a flood token, then we would add a flood token to that space. So this
example, this space would gain a flood and this space would gain a second flood token. And whenever that happens, the flood token actually cascades downward and it basically covers one of the two spaces below it. In the case of a tie, then we would look at the weather card for the round and ties are broken from top to bottom. So in this example, because there's a higher chance of rain in the beach spaces, which is B over here, then I would place my flood token there, and that would actually wipe out anything that's there. So if I had any trees there, they would get removed. Same with structures as well as rice patties. If there was only one option for it to cascade down into, then it would go to that single space. But if ever you had a situation that looked like this where you basically can only cascade down into other flood tokens, then nothing happens. You just discard the flood token. And same thing for having to cascade down into the bottom of your board. Nothing happens. And so this is why you really need to manage the flood tokens on your board because things can escalate quickly. And this is also why it is beneficial to gain bonuses that allow you to peek at these cards because after you resolve the top card, then you'll move to the next card and resolve that as well until you finish resolving all three cards in the round.
Yes. In the case of this second card over here, you basically resolve the letter of the species that's on the card to its left. So in this case, you would resolve all pine.
Then as soon as we finish resolving all three cards, we move into the final phase where in turn order, each player gets to fulfill a Shogun's demand tile. Now, each round we are going to reveal two of these demand tiles. And these tiles will require us to pay maybe a certain amount of rice or sometimes a certain combination of trees from our storage area. Some will require us to pay research tokens and military tokens. And if you're able to do so on your turn, then you can place one of your demand tokens on an available space on that demand tile. Now, in future rounds, if there's still available space on previous rounds demand tiles, you can still continue to fulfill them. But in a two-player game, only one player can fulfill each. So, this is going to be a true race. And during this phase, you can fulfill more than one, but only up to once per turn.
So, basically, you continue to do this until all players have passed.
Then, once this phase ends, we basically do some setup steps and clean up to prepare for the next round. And at the end of the fifth round, the game ends and we go into endame scoring. At the end of the game, players are going to score honor points for all the structures that we've built. Even if they were wiped out by the floods, you'll still score for them. We'll also score points for all of the trees that are still in our province depending on how far along we progressed up our foresty track. We'll also score honor points for all of these shoguns demand tiles we've achieved. And finally, we'll be able to score up to three of our Shogun's favor cards, which means any leftover resources are not going to score you points at the end of the game. And at that point, whoever has the most honor points wins the game. And in the case of a tie, the tied player who contributed the most to the Shogun's demand tiles wins the game. And that's essentially it. We're going to go ahead and get cleaned up and we'll get started with our play through. Okay, we are all set up. We are ready to go. Now, there is no technical turn order because the diplomat cards that we have are going to dictate who technically goes first.
Yes, who has priority order. So, I guess at the start of the game, we have randomly determined that I have priority order for now, but we'll see what happens in the first round. Now, for the first round, our two shoguns demand tiles demand us to pay a rice tax of seven rice.
Or we can build an etto, and that requires a size or a height of two and a height of three trees. But these can be any species. Now I know this is sort of a tall order for the first round. So again, if we do not fulfill these in the first round, you can fulfill them later. No problem. Otherwise, I think we are ready to begin. Are you ready?
Uh yeah, I think so.
All right, let's go ahead and start with round one. Now, as a reminder, this game features simultaneous play. We are not going to be doing that because we're demonstrating the game, which means our playthrough might be a bit longer than what you would actually see if you were to play the game yourself, but we are going to try to take all of our turns whenever it's our turn to play. All right, round one. Let's go ahead and start in the Edeto Council phase. Now, again, during this phase, we are going to simultaneously choose a diplomat card from our hand to determine priority order and to also determine the order in which we get to take these bonus cards, which is going to be the ability to flip over two flood tokens to their rice patty side, which is awesome. Or the ability to gain an artisan from the supply. Also awesome.
Basically, two actions.
Yeah. So, Naveen, do you know what you're going to do?
I know which card. Yep.
Okay. Ready?
Yes. One, two, three.
Three.
Three.
Oh, you
Oh, no. What a waste. Because we are going to We have a tie.
We have a tie,
which means we are going to inverse inverse.
Naveen gets priority.
Um,
we both get three rice.
Yes, we both get three rice. So, we start the game with five, which means we're going to go up to eight.
So, this could be anybody's rice tax, Naveen. Just so you know.
Could be. Yeah.
All right, Naveen. Which one would you like? Would you like or would you like an artisan? Both are really good.
Both are really good. I think I'm going to do the flip over. I'm gonna flip over to uh flooded areas rice patties. So now
the reasoning for which ones I'm going to do is based off of the probability of these cards right here.
So basically this says that
amongst these rain cards there are more A's than B's than C's and like that. So it's there's 40% A's, B's, C's and D's. So I am going to choose to flip over this one here because I don't want this to flood. So, I'm going to flip this one over. And then the next one that's most likely is going to be yellow based off of that. So, I'm going to flip this one over. So, that's my reasoning and thought process. So, if it rains in those areas, I gain more rice and I have to avoid the flooding.
Nive is right that there are more A's, B's, than there are C's. And it actually tells you the distribution. There are three A cards, two B's, and a C amongst all of these cards,
right?
But what this card specifically tells us is in the case of a tie, this is the tiebreaker. So, you would have to go a or you would have to go pine and then beach, oak, and then cypress. All right, that means I gain an artisan. So, we can discard these these cards, these gift cards. This is actually still nice, though, because this is uh an additional worker for the round. All right, so now let's go ahead and move into the province phase. And each round, we're just going to go in priority order, which means Naveen is going to take all of his actions, and then I'll take all of mine. And by the way, each player starts the game with one Shogun's favorite card and a forestry card in hand.
Okay, first turn. Um I well I only have like basically four actions unless I want to spend uh my rice to get a basic villager.
It's two to one for that. So two rice to one villager. I think I'm not going to do that. So I am going to start off by studying some trees. We have some trees out there that I can study. I'm going to take my yellow samurai and I'm going to place them in this intersection here.
And what I'm going to do is I'm going to uh study these. This is a size two.
So if anybody can't see this is a size two. And what I'm going to do is instead of going to the right or left here, I'm actually going to shoot up here. And the criteria for that study was any size two tree. So I'm moving up all the way here.
And then I'm going to get one of these forestry cards. So this can kind of help me out as well. So let me see that.
Very nice. I have I'm probably going to be doing the same thing.
Similar.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
And I went here specifically because I'm going to study a second time, but I'm going to study this tree. This is a size three oak. Mhm.
And if we look to the diagonal left, I can either study a size two or a size three oak. So, I'm going to study a size three technically.
And that's going to gain me two of those tiles. Can I have uh
two research research tokens?
Yes. Again, each space shows two different trees. And you only have to meet the requirement of one of them.
Yeah. So, I'm going to take these two. Uh again, you can either hold on to these to potentially turn them in for one of these um demands or you can spend one to look at what kind of weather and rain is going to happen. I'm going to hang on to it.
Okay, I
think I I think I'm okay right there. Uh I made a mess of this. Let me uh let me be better about that.
So, you have another yellow samurai.
You also have a lot of rice. So, again, as a special action, you can turn in two rice for these villagers who can just do like the oneoff actions.
What would you like to do? Next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to take this yellow one and I'm going to go here
and I am going to grow a tree here. So I from nothing you can grow a size one tree of the right uh type. So that's pine.
And then I am going to convert this flooded area into a rice patty
into a rice patty.
There you go.
Oh, you got some rice.
Got some rice. So if it rains on any of these things, then I'm going to gain some rice.
That's so nice.
I am not going to use the free action of spending two rice to uh get hire a villager. Okay,
so that'll end it for me.
Yeah, rice is pretty uh pretty useful in the game. One thing I didn't mention in the teach is anytime you build structures in the top three rows of your province, it requires you to pay rice. So, not only are we going to be using it to gain villagers, but you may also need to pay rice for those spaces. All right, so now it goes to me and I'm going to do something very similar, but also a little bit different. I'm going to assign my yellow samurai to this space. And again, uh yellow samurai gives you two actions, but they have to be different areas. So, for my first action, I'm going to study this space here, which is a pine tree of a height of two. And that's going to allow me to go whoop all the way up here, gaining me a forestry card as well. Do you mind passing me one, please?
Right there.
Thank you. All right. Very nice. Then I'm going to study again, but this time Naveen went left. I'm going to go right. So, I'm going to study this tree over here. This is a cyprress of size two. Oh, no. I
The floods haven't even come.
One moment. All right. There you go. Destroying my province already. Yeah.
So, I'm going to move this way. And this allows me to draw two Shogun's favor cards and uh basically keep one, discard the other. I would like to know as early as possible what
you're scoring for,
what I'm scoring for, you know, what to plan towards.
That's good.
Oh, wow. These are kind of tough. Okay, so this gets discarded to the bottom of the deck. And now I have two of them in my hand. And again, you can only score at most three. So that's it for that samurai. Next, I'm going to assign my yellow samurai to this space over here. Considering it is year of the pine,
let's plant a pine.
Plant pine. Yeah.
So that maybe we can get growing.
Get growing. Yeah.
And I'm also going to convert this into a rice patty.
Okay.
So I need some rice on my board. I also don't want these trees to get demolished if a flood token happens to appear there.
Now this space I'm less concerned about. I am still concerned about it, but less so because in the case of a tie, the flood would go here
based off of this card.
Based off of that card. But if there was like a double beach, then this would be a problem. It would wipe out this tree. I am actually still concerned about it.
Well, you have that red artisan.
Yeah, I think the red artisan though is going to go here because this is even worse. This is definitely wiping out a tree if it floods. So, I'm going to convert this into a rice patty. And then I'm going to plant
um an oak here.
Nice.
Because I am still concerned about this. I didn't get to peek at any of the forecast cards. I'm going to take a special action and spend two rice to gain a villager just so I can um Oh, no. I can't. The villagers cannot convert um your flood tokens to rice pack.
They can grow a tree though.
They can they can grow a tree.
You can grow a tree on top of a flooded area.
All right. I am redoing that.
Yeah.
And I'm going to plant a tree here.
There you go. So that goes bye-bye.
This goes bye-bye. And now you take it a yellow tree.
So there's a different way to do it. Yeah. That's how you manage the flood a different way.
Yes. So, I think my flood tokens have now been mitigated. This one is just going to flood into the Nethers.
Yeah. Into the ocean.
Into the ocean. All right. That is it. That is the end of our first province phase. We were both playing very conservatively. We're a little scared.
We know. We know what these floods can do to your hardearned trees.
I think we also want our trees to grow to get
Well, if you grow them, then you can chop them down and then split them for free so that then you can start building stuff. That
is true. So, let's move into the weather phase. The first thing that happens technically is we would get a military token for each of our fortresses. We don't have any of those yet. So, we're going to go directly to seeing the rain.
Yeah. So, one at a time.
One at a time. Cypress. So, all Cypress spaces are first going to grow trees. Naveen. How many trees do you have?
One, two, three trees, please. So, three tops.
There you go. I also have three. By the way, that was a low probability one. I think
that was a low probability
like had it been uh
yeah the probabilities do not actually influence these cards are just shuffled and randomly randomly placed. The probability is just in the case of a tie.
So trees actually the probability is lower because of the ABC cards. That is true. I think that's what Nine was was talking about. Exactly.
All right. So rice. Do you have any rice patties on Cyprus? I have one.
I don't.
So that gains me a single rice.
Get in there.
It was good to me. And finally, any empty or flooded Cypress spaces, gain a flood token. I get one.
Yeah. So, I I gain one flood here.
This one technically would have done the whole cascading thing, but because we're right next to the ocean, it just runs off into the ocean. No big deal. So, now we don't want to see another one of these. Otherwise, this is going to get wiped out. That's not good.
Yes. So, I actually probably want that to happen. I don't want it to happen.
See? Okay.
See? So, this is pertaining to oak. So, same thing. I have one, two, three, four.
Uh, I have one, two, three.
There you go. So, this is a a round of bounty. So, again, your trees max out at five. So,
yeah,
I don't think I have that situation yet. Do you have any rice patties on oak?
No, but I I did make a mistake here. This in my starting This should be here.
Everybody who's like just been screaming since the start of this playthrough like Naveen, move that thing. What are you doing?
That is so funny. We have a starting card basically that tells you where all your starting stuff is. And uh I don't know how that got moved, but there you go. So
it was just sitting there.
Yeah,
that is so funny.
Um so that was one, two, three. Uh did you already put all your stuff on?
I put my stuff, but I get rice.
Okay, one rice for that.
I also get one rice. There you go. Perfect.
And then do you have any empty or flooded oak spaces?
I'm going to get flooded down in the south.
I don't have any.
Supreme south.
Supreme.
I don't mind it in the south.
All right, last card. Hey.
Okay. So, A is pine. I have one, two, three, four. How many do you have?
Uh, one, two. I built this one. Three, four. So, there's your 3 + 1 makes four.
Thank you.
And then, uh, for me, the same situation.
It doesn't matter where
again, height max five.
Yeah.
So, basically, uh, we'll call them out um, as we're starting to build them. So, I built a technically now it's a 2, two, three, four.
Um, I also have one rice patty here. Rice. So now I can justify spending my rice.
Any flooding? I have one flood token here, but it doesn't do anything.
Uh, no, I knowing that A was the most likely. I tried to make sure that all my A's could grow or gain me rice.
Okay, very nice. And that is it. That is the end of the weather phase. Not too bad actually. No.
So now we are going to move into the Shogun's demand phase to end the round. Do either of us I guess starting with you Navine, would you like to pay the rice tax or build?
I have 10 rice. I could pay seven.
Are you going to
to get 11 points? I will. So 10 down to three. [snorts] I put out one of these markers right here. I have 11 points.
Speechless.
So only one player. If you miss the teach in a two-player game, this is reserved for a three or four player. And then if you're playing a full compliment, then all these spaces are available.
So in a two-player game, only one
only one person can get that repile, which means I'm out of it.
Yeah.
You said nay.
I said no.
It's not nice.
I plan.
Well, now you have less rice.
I have less rice. So now I can't hire a villager. Just so you know,
I got to get around.
All right. Um, then it would be my turn technically and I cannot do build an edeto. So, I will pass and I'm assuming Navian will too.
Yeah, I'm done.
All right. That is the end of the round. So, now we are going to take back our workers. Any permanent workers will go back to us.
And the temporary, which are the villagers and artisans, go back to the supply. Do you have any?
Uh, no.
Oh, nice. You did all of that with just those two,
huh? Yeah. Lean and mean operation.
We'll also reveal two new Shoguns gift cards. All right, let's see if I can do this without knocking everything over. So, there we go. A green forestry card and then oh, two new tiles so we can expand out our province.
We're going to reveal the next weather cards. So, it's no longer Year of the Pine, it's Year of Beach. And then all of these cards will go back to the deck because they will always you'll always have the same opportunity to see each card. Nine, would you care to shuffle?
What was A used to be pine? Now A represents beach. Does that make sense?
Yes, that is true. Yeah, Naven was right about that. Um, two new Shogun demands.
Okay, what do we have?
And so now we have share forestry knowledge. So that's going to be turning in four research tokens. I got two of them.
We already have two of them.
And bolstering military. So that's seven military tokens.
For these cards, we actually place the uh actual tiles on them so that we can see what we're getting.
So this player will be able to expand with a an oak. And the oak that comes populated with a with a a size. Yeah. Three height oak tree. And this one comes in the rice patty.
Rice patty already.
And this one is a forestry card which says this round whenever your samurai harvest gain two additional rice.
Ooh, that's nice.
There's that.
Okay, so now this is all shuffled. We're going to lay out three just like we set up in the previous round. And we basically play again.
Yes, we went to advance the round tracker and now we are in round two. So that is how cleanup works. Now we are moving into round two. We are just slightly set up. We have some more information, but we also only have four more rounds to build structures. Yeah,
you really want to build those structures.
You need to build those structures. You need to get enough actions.
Mhm.
You have to have the trees at the certain height. You got to protect the trees. Yeah.
Lots of things. So, let's go ahead and move into the Edeto Council phase. Diplomat card time. Are you ready?
I am ready.
All right. One, two, three, five. Oh my gosh.
I wasn't sure where you were going to go with that.
Can I have the red guy, please?
You have to fan him out.
Oh, fan him out. It's important here.
You can put them over here. What do you think?
Uh, this is fine. What I got going on?
Okay, fine.
Yeah.
So, you get
You end up building out. Yes. So, I get an artisan.
Okay. So, let's go ahead and and reverse the
priority turn order, please.
I don't get any bonus cuz I played a high a high value card. Okay.
I would like to gain the land tiles, please.
So, these get added to
I was kind of okay with either one. That's why I played the two.
Oh, okay.
I was like, I'll I'm happy with either. So,
and I get to choose where they go. I'm going to go ahead and place this one here.
Okay.
Just in case I wanted to cut them by this is a size three
oak.
Oak. And then I'm just going to place this one here. No rhyme or reason. I probably should think it through a little bit more. But um rice patty on top of it.
Oh, thank you.
Yeah, no problem.
So, that gets a rice patty.
And then I get this card. So, that again this round whenever you Oh, you're okay. Samurai Harvest. I gain two additional rice. That's good
if you choose to play it. That's good because um currently right now I only have three rice. So this this can get me three rice per one harvest.
All right. So now let's go and move into the province maze. My province board is expanded in a little bit of a strange way,
but I'm going to go ahead and go first. Yeah.
All right. The first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to assign my samurai here
because I'm going to cut twice.
Okay.
So I'm cutting this three height yellow.
Okay.
And a four height of green. Ooh, scary. These are empty.
Yeah. Then I'm going to pay two rice to gain a villager and place my villager here so I can plant a beach tree there. Now it's a height. Yeah, I'm going to grow it. Y
I'm I'm growing it. Yeah. Sorry, that's a different height of two.
That's a height of two. And I'm doing this so that I can place my yellow samurai here.
Study
this height of two. So I can move up here. That gains me two research tokens.
Good.
So now I have two. So, I can spend one to forecast or I can save them. Although, I think Naveen, are you close to getting two tokens?
Well, I went the opposite way. I went this way. So, I would have to go up up them like that. So, it's going to take me a little while.
Okay, it's good to know.
Yeah, good to know.
Um, the other action I wanted to take is I would like to build a structure here. Before I do that though, I'm going to take a special action. And you can do that in between two actions of the same worker. And this special action will allow me to cut a tree into two parts. So I'm going to cut this size four pine into two size twos.
So now I have everything I need to build this structure. So this structure requires a size two pine and a size three beach. So I have both of those. These are going to go back to the
control of these trees.
This gets exchanged for either a farm or a fortress. I'm going to build a fortress because it has to go to an adjacent area from where I place my worker, right? And fortresses are built on empty spaces. So that'll get placed there. Now because it's in this level here, I have to spend two rice. So that was not ideal. But I guess it is a bit more protected from floods.
Yeah, that's why the the higher up in the hills, the more safe you are.
Yeah. Now that I've built this structure, it's going to score me four honor points at the end of the game. But I now have the uh ability to build upwards. So I can build this one next. That's really expensive. That's a height of four pine and a height of four.
So you're hoping this this rains here. This is already a four.
Yeah. Yeah, this is, you know, a three.
Mhm.
You know, so so you you and the B is is, you know, a higher likelihood, so you you probably can get that.
No, I am out of workers, but in order to protect my structure, those
I'm going to spend two rice. Oh, no rice to get a villager and place a villager here to plant. Okay, happy.
No, that's good.
Tree, please.
Because A is the most prevalent. If you were to get like rain on it so it becomes flooded and then another A comes out then it would destroy one of these two.
Yeah,
it would actually destroy this rice right here. Yeah,
it would. All right, that's me.
Okay, that was pretty good.
Oh, thank you.
So, I don't like the idea of me only having one of these.
Okay.
And if I was just to research up here, I can get another one.
Okay, I should probably do that.
So, it's a size two or a size three pine.
Size two or three pine. And the red worker cannot do this action. Studying is only from your samurai.
It's a samurai thing. samurai thing. So, I'm going to put this samurai here.
Okay,
right there. So, they are going to be studying this size two pine, which is exactly what needs to happen here. So, I'm going to move up. I'm going to draw two cards. Discard one of them.
Good luck.
Thank you. Okay. Uh I'm going to keep these are both doable.
They will they definitely take you in a direction. Like if I took this, it'd be like my game changes now.
Like that's a choice.
That's a choice. This is a choice. I'm gonna go with this choice though. This one I'm gonna keep this one. I'm gonna discard.
They are very specific, very specific missions.
If I kept that one, it'd be like, oh, Naveen's game changed. Like, why did he do that? So, maybe I'll show it at the end of the game. Okay, so that was action one.
Okay. And by the way, now that both of us have crossed this threshold at the end of the game, we're going to be scoring one point for each of our leftover trees of height four or taller, right?
Four or five, really.
So, I had a plan until I got one of these purple cards. That kind of changed my my whole direction right now. My whole perspective. Yes,
it it really did.
So, I am now going to continue studying.
I had no plans on doing this until I I just drew that correct.
What's the next
The next one is this diagonal. Any size three. So, fortunately, um
So, which one did you study?
I studied this one, which is size two.
I'm next to a size three birch right here. So, that's going to represent uh beach, sorry. Yeah. And that's going to go up here.
What this allows me to do is look at two of the rain cards.
Okay. Okay.
So, I'm going to go ahead and do that right now. Which two would you like?
Let's look at the the ones that are closer to me. Oh, well, the farthest.
Okay.
Why not reach further?
Why not? Make sure you don't mix up the order.
No, no. I I I have it here.
That is messing with fate. And it's important.
That's good information. Uh
oh.
Have this information.
You should You should Well, you have those tokens.
I know. I got I didn't I didn't spend them.
Okay, that is information. That tells me something. Okay. Okay. Okay. So now I'm going to actually play a forestry card. So this one says, "Grow up to three trees of any type that are next to your workers." So I have this one worker here.
So I'm going to grow grow like
of any type. It says
any type. Yeah. Three.
Go up to three trees of any type that are next to my workers. So I put myself in a position where
Nice.
So here's your cypress.
So
and your pine over there.
So cypress. So that's a four.
Mhm.
This and this. Okay. Very good. So this goes out. trying to hang on to it forever. So, I'm going to take my artisan and we're going to go here and I'm going to plant a tree here. So, we're going to get rid of this flood token. And can I have a one of those teal ones?
Oh, yes. Here, your cypress.
The teal cypus. Thank you. That goes out.
So, that's one action.
One action. And the next one is I am going to get myself some rice.
Okay.
So, rice. Yeah. We're just going to harvest, which is allowed by that particular type of worker.
Yeah.
And then I'm going to move myself here
and I am going to Yeah. Two actions. I am going to study this one.
Okay.
So that I can move diagonal. So I need a size three, which I have a size three pine here. So I'm going to move diagonal here. So that's going to get me three of those tokens.
Oh, you're going to take that.
You're just such a You're such a
You're Shogun's favorite.
I'm like
you're one of those Shoguns like you know
like a suckup or something like that. Giving him an apple for the teacher. So that's that. Uh but I want to get points for all these trees here. So, that was one action that was studing.
Yeah.
Uh, and then the next thing I'm going to do is I will chop down a tree.
Oh, you're going to cut.
Chopping of the tree. I'm not building any structures. That's kind of bad.
That is kind of bad. That's true.
There you go. Thank you.
Thank you.
I mean, these score a lot of points like 19 points like I scored four.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, but you have the potential for the eight to 12, which is I think we're both eyeing that.
All right. Okay.
Anything else?
Uh, I will spend two rice. One, two.
Put out a villager.
That villager is going to do me a kindness and chop down a four.
Oh,
bye-bye for
You're going to do this.
Oh. Um,
no. Oh, it's only No, I could I could You can do this. So, this is a two three. Yeah,
I have a three and a four here. And remember, as a free action, you can separate.
But you have to do that now. I
You have to make that decision now. I do have to make that decision now and I won't do it.
Okay.
I won't do it. I want to set myself up for some structures.
Okay.
All right. Done.
Yep. That's it.
All right. That ends the province phase. Naveen is on a tear. Naveen is a man of the plan.
I have some of a plan. Yeah.
Let's move into the weather phase. So now
purple card really ruined my plan though. That was like I had a plan. This came in and it's like now I have to
Did it ruin it or did it give you
It gave me incentive.
Okay.
Yes.
All right.
Yes.
Yes.
All right. Weather phase. So now that I have a fortress, I'm going to get a military token for
that. I don't have
that fortress. Yeah, you don't. No,
since requires seven. That means seven. I can also take an action to muster there and get two. But anyh who, um, let's go ahead and resolve these the rain, shall we?
How about this one?
Oops. You know this one?
Cypress.
Cypress.
Okay, so I have the Cypress here. So I have three of them.
Yeah, I have I have four of them. So that so remember how I had to put this out here is because I saw that cypress it would have wiped this thing out right here.
Ah
there's a flood token on it. So I was like that changed everything.
So one, two, three. I gain one race.
Okay. Very good.
And then this has a flood token but it doesn't cascade.
So these are both at their max fives. So I don't have to worry about these anymore. I should probably study or slop slash do whatever I got going to do.
I don't think there's a five study
five studies later. It's way later. So I got to chop them down.
Do you have any floods to take care of? Just this one right here. It would have been We're both good. Let's move to the next one.
Green.
Pine. Oh, you knew.
I knew.
So, you have the pine. I do have
I need one, two, three.
Three. You have four.
Yes. One, two, three.
Chopped them down, huh?
I did.
Uh, same. One, two, three for me.
Two, three. This is a fortress. No empty. Oh, I I have one. I have a rice patty. I get rice.
I get one rice. And then now I need a flood token for this one right here.
Yeah. I now I don't know. I don't know the next weather. So that that's that is a problem. Please don't be
to find out. And you don't have any flooding, right? No cascades. Okay.
It is
sea.
Oh no.
Pine again.
It's going to happen.
It's going to happen.
Shoot.
Well, before that happens, let's we'll we'll save the exciting part for last.
Can I have three trees, please?
So So it's basically pine again. Um because pine is what is indicated. Dang it.
Yeah, for me it's really just the same. I'm going to place my three trees. This one maxes out. I get one rice and it's the This is the only flood spot. And again, it doesn't cascade downwards. So,
so, uh, technically I have three trees, but this is at a max five. So, this now three becomes a four. This four becomes a five. Five remains a five.
Oh,
so it's time to start chopping.
Time to chop chop.
Um, I've got a rice coming my way.
Let's see about this flooding.
So, technically a tile goes onto here. I already have a flood.
Then what we do is we consult
you place it there.
We consult the chart because technically in flood this way.
Well, you don't have to consult the chart yet. You first just consult the two areas that are below it. If there's only one available space, it gets wiped out. Only in the case of a tie, do you consult the tree?
Yeah. Had this had like nothing or a tree on it, then you would look at the chart and no matter what B, which is oak, is the one getting wiped.
That's a little bummer.
Ah, you could have cut those trees.
Oh, take Yeah. Yeah, I could have, but I didn't.
So, the flood tile does replace that. So, you can
Yeah, that's a shame.
Yeah, that's a shame. All right, that is the end of weather. Let's uh end this round in the shogun's demands. So, it is me first. Would you like
I don't have anything for building an edeto. I don't have four. I'd have nothing. I'm passing you.
Uh I would like to share forestry knowledge. [sighs]
Nave is going to be out on all of these
unfortunately.
Possibly. I'm trying to I need to win a game, you know.
Anything else? That's it, right?
Uh that's it. Yeah.
All right. All right. That is the end end of the round. We have done cleanup once before, so we're not going to make you sit through it for the rest of the game. We will see you in the next round. All right, we are now set up for round three. So, we are almost halfway through the game. Welcome to the Gear of Cypress.
Yeah,
we haven't seen much Cypress action, I think. And so, now we'll have a lot of it. The uh new demand tiles are paying the rice tax of five. And another build in Edeto. This one requires a size three and a size four,
which is exactly what I have now.
That is what you have, Naveen.
What are you going to do? Well, I guess it'll depend on who has priority.
Yeah.
So, our gifts from the Shogun are a Shogun's favorite card that that says structure tokens removed from the top row. Oh my gosh, that requires you to build these.
Yeah,
kind of tough. And then this is a growing two trees.
You have to do double grow.
It can either be two of the two different trees or the same tree twice.
You take the grow action twice. Yep.
Yeah. All right. Diplomat time. Are you ready, Nine?
I'm ready. One, two, three, four.
Oh, you went one.
Oh, you're going to do the land the land thing. Okay, so I still have priority.
Yeah,
I get a villager. Uh, you get to draw two of the three of those bonuses.
Three. Keep one.
Keep one.
What do we got here?
What do you want?
All right. Well, beach is growing. Beach is most likely, right, with or not beach one. I think Cypress.
Cypress.
Cypress is most likely. But that's a two versus a three and a three.
Mhm. Knowing that I have a couple fives here that are most likely going to need to be chopped down,
I'm I'm gonna put this out here. Let's just put this like that.
Okay. So, you get a voila
height two.
And these two are out.
There you go.
Two. Thank you.
You've been populated. Yep.
All right. So, I get to choose first. H I think I'll take this.
Yeah, it's good.
That favorite card and just see what I can do with it.
So, I get a a double grow. Okay. Uh I'll grow one oak over here.
Mhm. out in this corner and then I will grow a a beach yellow right here.
Okay,
there we go. Trying to plan my studying route.
Very nice.
All right, let's move into the province phase. This time I'm going to be going first. First, I think I'm going to send out a villager here.
Okay.
To
simple
cut. Oh, yeah. I'm going to cut this.
Okay.
So, I'm cutting.
That's the one action.
That's the That's action. Yeah, that's for the villager. Then I'm going to send out my samurai here. I'm going to cut this and then I'm going to build in this area. So that's the other area.
Yep.
And uh it's going to be this building here that requires a height for pine height for oak, which are these two.
So here's the pine.
Very good.
Here's the oak.
So this quickly move. And I'm going to build another fortress because it's an empty space.
So now I have two,
which is good. And that's going to be eight points at the end of the game. If I can build this one, then I'll be able to gain a rice. But I think I need to I took that that card. So now I have to build upwards. Next, since this is a height of five,
I think I'm going to place this samurai here.
And first, I'm going to study. Actually, this is a height of three.
Three,
which is what this needs. Yep.
So, I'm going to go here. And it lets me look at the two
weather cards. I'll go with the first one.
Oh, okay. And then I'll just go with the next one.
[gasps]
Oh, interesting.
Yeah, knowing the weather is good.
Knowing the weather is good. All right. Uh, for the second action though, I am going to cut this one cuz it's already height of five.
Yeah. So,
it's maxed.
Yeah, it's maxed out. So, there's that. And then I think I would like to I'm going to get a villager and assign my villager here so that I can cut this one. This is also a height of five.
So, I think I have everything I need for this. So, it's like, do I do I spend it on that or do I go for like one of these? Like, am I in a rush?
I mean, that's 12. I mean, you have it.
I do.
You have it like 12 points plus that card, another two points. That's 14 points just to take that. And the thing that's nice about it is if you build this, then you can start just building to the left and not have to go all this vertical column.
That's true. But I think I am going to spend another two to get another villager so I can cut this one. chopping.
I'm chopping this.
Interesting. You've seen these two cards.
Yeah.
You're willing to create gaps.
You don't know
in the Cypress areas.
Naveen doesn't know.
I don't know. But like I'm, you know, technically it's supposed to be all simultaneous. By the way, I should not have this knowledge.
You should not have this knowledge. So, how dare you speak on my turns.
The convenience of everybody's viewing pleasure. Yeah.
Now, you do have the option though if you don't want to do it simultaneously. You can take turns taking one action each. We're we're very casual and we we would just rather you be able to follow what we're doing. So, we're just taking all of our actions at.
So, this is kind of like the mindset of like what's going on in the game kind of with what I'm saying. Don't don't take anything serious.
All right. But that is it for me. So, that goes to you Naveen.
Okay. That's me. I'm Naveen. Um Okay. So, we are going to take this yellow
samurai.
Samurai. We're going to hang out here.
Two actions.
Two actions. First action. I would like to study about this three cypress. I'd like to know more. By me doing that, I get a red artisan.
It's awesome.
I love that for you.
Thank you. More workers is good, right? Yeah. Like any game.
Okay. Except when you have to feed them. You don't have to feed them.
You don't have to feed them.
Okay. So, uh well, I guess if you hire the villagers, but technically now, uh I am going to do the free action. The free specialty action is splitting a tree.
Okay.
into two different trees. One
and two. Just like that.
Yes. It's always free.
Free.
Unlike putting them together,
right? And then the second action I'm going to do is I'm going to I'm going to be building this one on the far right. This is my plan from the get-go, but it's like round three.
This worker.
Yeah,
the samurai on that space. So, you're doing a fortress.
Fortress. So, it's a size two and a size three yellow. So, boom. Boom. Now I have me a fortress. Oh, it's like this fortress.
Which which uh token? Which what are you building?
Sorry. Probably remove that.
Very very nice.
Okay. I want to study some more. So, I'm going to send the samurai here to this corner. We are going to study this size three uh orange oak, which is exactly what I need here. So, can I have three of these tokens, please?
Oh my gosh.
More tokens.
This is just for forecasting,
huh?
Now that you've taken that.
Yeah,
I guess there could be there are more of them.
There are more. You don't know which one's going to come out.
Yeah.
But each keep that for now.
Okay.
So, that was action one. Uh, action two is going to be if I want to build this, I have to cut this down. So, I'm going to cut this down. Just like that.
So, that's action two.
Uhhuh.
I'm going to spend uh Well, you know what? I'm going to spend two of these. I'd like to know the weather.
Oh,
I'd like to know a little bit about the weather.
Look at
one and two.
Oh, you want to see what I saw? Naveen felt envious. You see, you understand now.
Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh no.
Is it bad? You have
I had plans.
Oh,
but knowing the weather changes your plans just like in real life. Um
yeah, it's very be very deep.
So deep. Oh my gosh. That that Wow.
It's not bad.
That what what do you mean it's not bad
for you?
No. No, it's bad.
If I want to build this
Yeah.
Well, I don't want to spoil it like you know what what the weather is, but knowing the rain
Yeah. and the weather. I am going to hire a villager to assist me, please.
Thank you.
This villager will say, "Cut down
that one."
The size four oak.
Okay.
Here.
Okay.
Then I'm going to spend my last two rice. I have no rice.
Another villager.
Another villager.
Okay, there you go.
This villager will go here. And this villager will ensure that we grow we grow an oak. You're going to plant
planting. Oh, I'm sorry. Plant. Grow. Grow from nothing by planting.
Okay.
Then the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to take my artisan.
My artisan's going to hang out here.
And oh boy,
two actions.
If I was to build here, it cost me rice. I can't do that there.
Oh, correct.
Cannot do that there. Because if you build a structure here, artisans can build structures. Yes.
But in this row cost one rice, in this row, two, and in this row, three. Yeah. Very expensive.
Very expensive. So I will put it begrudgingly here.
Mhm.
And we are going to with my first action I am going to build.
Okay. Which one?
Yeah. So I'm going to build uh my size four oak and my size four pine.
Oh the one that I built.
Same same direction that you just more value.
I like the endgame scoring cards. That's what one two three four. This comes off
and then now this becomes one of these.
The exact same thing as me. You're a copy.
Well, I had this idea from the get-go, honestly.
Okay.
Yeah. Uh, and then I have one more action. I'm just going to create a rice patty here.
Okay.
There we go.
Very nice.
Perfect. Okay, that's
We have a lot of rice. All right,
that's the end of the province phase. Let's move into weather. So, we now have some fortresses. We both do. So, two military tokens.
Two for you, two for me.
Is it a race? Is it a race to the seven?
You're going to beat me into that, right? Oh, no. You have Oh, you spent some.
No. Oh, I thought you
I just built my second one.
Oh, I see. I see.
Now, so I am one ahead of you. This one.
All right, let's see the weather. Let's build, shall we?
B is uh oak.
So, I have four.
So, I have uh two.
You have two. There you go. One, two, three, four. Oops.
Knowing that bee weather is why I had to cut down, hire a villager.
Yeah.
To replant.
Yeah, I hear you. cuz I didn't want it to destroy. There's five.
Get a rice and I get a flood token there.
Okay.
How about you?
Uh so I get uh one rice.
Any flooding?
Uh technically here and here, but drain to the ocean.
All right, next card B again.
Exactly why I had to do that.
So here's
two and a rice.
Two and rice. I have four and rice. So one, two, three, four, and rice. And this one, it just cascades down to nothing. This is the one that we don't know.
Know this one.
Oak.
This is a silly round this year. Year of Cyprus, but we only ran on oak.
So, you only get two because I think you have two size fives.
Yeah. So, this is for you.
Um, I only get one cuz I have a size five here.
Yeah, these are two. These two are fives.
So, eight.
Wow. Our oak trees are they were eating. They were thriving this year.
Now, I I really That's such a bummer. I was planning on building a farm here which would got me two rice. Two rice. Two rice.
Oh my gosh.
Three. I know. Yeah.
But you got your rice.
I was. Yeah. I was shy of rice to actually build it there.
All right.
Dang it.
All right. Well, that is it for weather. Year of Cyprus was actually year of oak.
Yeah.
Truly, it was a bait and switch.
So, let's go ahead and fulfill some of these showuns demands. Starting with me, I am going to do something.
What are you doing?
I am going to build an Eeto
a three style. Yeah. Because I figured if I do a two and a three or this is eligible for a two two that's only three points. Might as well make it a two three
and then you're preventing
score seven because Navina is scoring so much more. I need to score something.
If I'm going to lose that's fine but I need to score some points.
I need to lose with points.
All right.
Navine, do you have anything?
Uh no.
No.
No.
All right. And then I will pass and that'll be it. So that is it for round three. Okay, we're going to do some clean up and we'll see you in round four. All right, we are all set up and ready for round four. This is the pen ultimate round.
Do what you need to do.
Although you have a whole other round after this, so I guess not too bad. So last year was the year of the cypress,
which turned into the year of the oak.
And now this year is the year of the oak. So I bet we're going to see a bunch of cypress.
No.
No, probably not.
Oak.
Oak. Lots of oak.
Oak. Be ready.
All right. Which means you got to cut all these oak trees down.
Yeah.
Let's
Oh, yeah. All yours are fives.
Yeah, all mine are five. So, I got to figure something out. All right, diplomat card time. So, we are basically trying to get either two villagers or converting a yellow samurai into a green samurai. I don't know if we mentioned that at all during the teach, but in order to get a green one, you really are converting them from your yellow ones. And they gain you a third action instead of just two.
And this could have came out in round one, right? Like it's coming out in round four, but it just showed up now,
right? All right. Ready?
I'm ready.
1 2 3 1. Oh,
doesn't it feel silly?
No.
Doesn't it?
I already spent my one, two, three.
Huh?
I couldn't go any lower than four.
Yeah, but you could have Okay, that's true.
All right, so we going to invert this.
So, Naveen has priority now.
Okay, so you get three of
you get a villager.
Yeah, there you go.
Thank you. So, I get to choose.
That was silly.
Which one? Oh, well, oak. Oak was so magical. Or do I want a two green? Oh, what do I want? because I have a lot of tall oak trees already and it is year of the oak. I am going to place this one, but it's going to be the one with the rice patty.
Okay,
I'm just going to place it here. No,
the Yeah. Yeah, that's good.
No, no, it's too I shouldn't do that. It's expensive there.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
I'll place it here.
So, that comes with a
rice patty. You know what? Then maybe I should place it here just in case I would like to cut and build.
Yeah.
Right.
There you go.
I don't know. I doubt I'm going to do that, but there you go. We'll see what happens.
All right, Naveen. Which one would you like?
Oh,
convert your yellow to a green or two villagers,
you know. Man, both are good, but I'm going to
You both are good.
I'm going to convert my yellow to a green.
Okay,
so I'm going to do this one.
All right, here you go.
Thank you.
May I have your yellow, please?
I got So now this one can can do actions in all three of the spaces around it.
Yeah, must be all three.
All three
cannot be the same one twice. So I get two villagers. That's nice. I like that.
That's good. Yeah,
technically more action points than what you did, but yours is going to be for this round and next round.
Yeah. So, basically, I've gained an extra action point.
Yeah.
Um,
it's really the same amount
because there's only two rounds left, but
um I have the ability to study.
Yes, you do have better options for actions. That's true. That's true.
That's why.
All right. Uh, province phase time. So, it's time to study with you, Naveen. What would you like to do?
Oh, boy. All right. I think I'm going to start by doing a double study. We're going to go here.
Okay.
And this three uh beach is what I need here. Three or four beach. I'm going to move up here
and that's going to get me into the next threshold. And I get to draw two of these forestry cards. So I got two of these. These are very useful for like one-off abilities.
Yeah.
I'm going to spend this card here. I'm just going to discard it for two rice. One, two. Just like that. Simple.
Okay.
And then I'm just going to study again. So I studied once here. I'm going to study here. This is a size four oak.
And that's exactly what I need. Are there four cyprress or four oak? So, I'm going to move. If I go here, I can convert my yellow to a green.
I'm just going to move up here. I'd like to know the weather for all three.
Wait, where you going? I have to go here.
You have to follow the arrow. Yeah.
Oh, I have to follow the arrow.
Yeah.
Oh, okay. Hold on one second.
You want Don't you want to do that?
Yeah,
because if you convert the yellow samurai that you placed, you get to take the third action immediately. But the thing is it has to be in the area, the third area, you know.
Okay. So, I'll do it. I'll do it then. Yeah. So, yeah. I thought there was an arrow here. There's not. So, I'm going to go here.
So, now because it's any four I have the four, the same four I was pointing to.
Uh, so now um I am going to convert this yellow that's here.
Don't worry about those. Just
forget that. Can I have a green, please? Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
You get a green.
Okay.
That was so That was actually uh pretty impressive. You did like a flick
finger flick. a lot of paper football. You know, you ever played that?
No, I have never.
Then I am going to No. So, knowing that because I misread that arrow, do you mind if I do something and it's going to make complete sense?
Well, what is it?
I'm You know how I discarded this card right here for two rice?
You You did that just now?
Just in this turn? Yeah. Like after I did the first study. Can I untake can I just take this back and get back rice?
You'll see exactly why. So, one, two.
Because this now has the access to this uh rice to harvest
you want to put into play. If I put this into play this round, whenever your samurai harvest, gain two additional rice. It just nets me one plus one rice.
Gains two additional rice.
Yeah. So I get one.
Yeah.
Two, three versus just throwing it away for one two. Okay.
That's why. So that makes sense. Three.
Okay.
And that was all because of my misread of the arrow. Okay. Right. Okay. So now I used it.
And if you do it again.
Yeah. So this is just in the round. So I should probably just keep it there.
Yeah. It's for the entire round.
Uh I will send out my uh green samurai here. Mhm.
I'm going to do a cut. Cut. So, this is a five.
Mhm.
Another five. So, that's one, two.
And then for the third action, I'm going to build this last one. This is a five and a five of exactly that type.
And I'm going to build it in this spot right here. So, I'm going to
farm. Yeah.
So, these go out.
And you have rice, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah.
I have Yeah. Rice. It's going to cost me one rice. That's the rice that I regretted not having earlier.
Okay.
That goes out. This goes there. This comes off.
Yeah. I get to put this rice now when this rains on it and it's the year of the oak. Hopefully I'll get some more rice.
Um then uh because I've completed this
column, I get to draw two
and keep one. So now I can I can score all three
and it's going to lead you in an entirely new direction.
Well, yeah, it will
show you a new world maybe.
Yes. Okay, I'll keep this one for sure. We'll discard this one out.
All right, so you have one villager.
One villager. I should probably try to protect myself here. So, I will I'm going to put this here because I just built this structure. I'd like to protect this structure. So, I'm going to um I'm going to go ahead and just
put a uh cyprress on this.
So, I'll grab
Oh, you're going to plant
Yeah, plant this down here.
Okay.
Just like that.
Single single tree.
Single tree. That's my final answer.
All right.
Cool.
So, then you can discard that card if you'd like. Mhm. Uh then it goes to me and I have a lot of really tall oak trees. I actually don't really think I'm going to be able to cut them all down right now, which is fine cuz they'll still score you points if they're on your board.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fours and fives can score you a lot of points.
I'm going to set my yellow steam right here so I can study twice. So I'm studying four height pine. This is four
to go to the left. And that gains me three research tokens.
Total. Are you one short of this?
One short from greatness.
You have five.
I have five. Might as well learn the weather.
Might as well. That is true. That is true. But before I do that, I'm going to study here for the second action. This is a height of four. Okay. Cypress. And this is a what that needs. And that gets me an artisan.
Artisans useful.
Artisans are useful.
You have a lot of workers.
I do. I don't know if I'm going to utilize them properly. It's a shame because all of my oak trees are so tall and this next uh space requires a three or a four and I can't just like top. You know what I Oh, that's interesting.
Next, I am going to place out my yellow samurai here, and I'm going to build
I'm going to build a fortress on that space. So, this one requires the five and five, just like Nine did.
Very similar.
So, here's five cyprress, five pine.
You did it.
This gets built. I'm placing a fortress on this space. Hopefully. Yeah, I just need to not cut those two down, I guess.
And then I get to draw I also get to draw two.
Yep.
Uh, shoguns.
Two. How many total do you have?
I'm going to have four. So, one of I mean, two of them are pretty tough.
Oh,
I think part of my demise is I've been like really trying to hit these cards.
They're kind of tough.
Demise.
So, I'm going to see what I can do. Oh, wow. These are tough, too. They're all tough.
They're They're all Yeah, you really have to go for them.
Yeah. Oh, they're really interesting. Okay, I'm going to discard this one.
Okay,
so I have to choose three of them to actually Let's see. I guess we'll just see at the end of the game which one are the three highest scoring.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just work towards all four and then whatever works out.
Then for my second action for this yellow samurai, I'm going to muster.
Nice.
Here. So, can I have two
military tokens? I will be able to.
Okay.
We'll see if I actually do it though. We'll see. Naveen.
All right. So, I have these three here. Then I'm gonna put out these two villagers. I'm gonna place this one here to cut this large. It's a five. It's a size five. And I'm going to place this one here to cut this.
So, they're both size fives. Um, before I forget, I'm going to play a forestry card that says, "Plant up to two trees of the same type in empty or flooded areas." So, I'm going to plant one here
of the oak
and one here.
Must protect your oak.
Yeah. So, this goes out.
Okay. Very good.
Discard that.
Um, I do have one last artisan. And I also have some rice. Before I do anything else, though, I'm going to take a special action to cut my tree. Just a single boop. Like that. Then for my last worker, I'm just going to place them here and plant. Plant.
Okay. Yeah.
Right.
Keep it nice and safe.
Yeah. I don't really have much in terms of rice, but that's fine. I do have four rice left. Do I want Oh, I can pay the rice tax.
Well, I have first dibs.
Oh, you do? Are you going to do? So, just don't waste your time if
Don't waste your time.
Don't waste your time.
All right. I will just I'll just hold on to my rice and I'll just leave it as is. So there we go.
Very good.
That is the end of the province phase. Let's go and uh get some military tokens. So I need three of them.
So you get three. I get I get two. And you get three, which I think you're going to spend seven of
uh maybe
to score some points.
Let's resolve some weather.
I don't have I have no knowledge.
Oh, oak.
It is truly year of the oak. So
I get uh I get one cuz this is this is a uh that
that's a size five. I get two cuz two of them are size five. I also get one two rice.
H same. I get two rice cuz of my farm.
And then this is technically a double
same
flood that does nothing.
Same.
All right.
Oak again. Come on.
Pine. That was shocker.
Dark green.
Uh I have two two pine trees.
Okay. I have one pine tree which is maxed at five. So I'm going to get a uh I'm going to get two rice. One. Two.
Okay.
That's good for me. But I
rice.
Yes. And but I get two flood tokens.
Two flood tokens.
Danger.
Uhoh. Uhoh.
Danger.
I get one flood token.
Don't ruin my stuff, man. I don't know the weather.
Cuz this one is
Come on. Be good to me.
I hope I hope I was counting everything correctly.
Be good.
Is it B?
A.
Oh, it's A. It's oak again. Solid.
Okay, it's oak.
So, I I get none cuz these are both at fives.
Okay, I get two.
But um I will get two rice.
Two two rice. Oh, I don't know if I got two rice last time. I did.
You said two rice. verbalize it at least.
Yeah.
And then this would just flood, but nothing. Oh, that was nice. It really was. It was truly was was your oak. We were
promised and we were delivered on the promise of oak.
Build something here.
Okay. Show guns uh demand. So, Naveen.
Yeah. I'm going to spend five. So, I go from 11 down to six and I'm paying the tax. Might as well while you have it.
All right. Um I am going to bolster the military. So, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. So, it's all but one.
There's that.
Like, I'm not doing that.
It's nice. It's 12 points.
Yeah, it's 12 points. Good.
Uh, back to you.
I Nothing.
I'm going to build an etto. So, I have a four and a five. So, this one. So, there's that.
You got some good powerful.
Yeah, but I spent a lot of trees to do so.
Yeah.
All right, that is the end then because I'm passing as well. So, we're going to go ahead and clean up for the last time and we'll see you in the final round. All right, we are all set up for the final round. This is the last round of the game. We have a really interesting configuration of gifts
because the Shogun is playing with us,
toying with us.
These are the Shogun's gifts for the final round, which is really silly because what they do is they are new diplomat cards that go into your hand for a future round, which means we're not really going to benefit from them at all. So truly what we are going to be playing our diplomat cards for are any bonuses and for priority specifically for the Shogun's demand phase. That is so funny. We should have known. We should have known that this was going to happen
playing with this.
All right, Naveen, do you know what you're playing?
I do.
All right. One, two, three, two.
Yeah.
All right. So, we both had the six.
We had the six, but it cost you two rice.
Cost you two rice.
Rice is huge. That's a whole That's a whole village worker. Yeah. I don't want to do that.
I wanted the the artisan.
Mhm.
So, that's nice. Five doesn't get you anything, right?
Well, five gets me the zero card, which is going to get me a yellow worker.
No.
Yeah.
Why? Those are diplomat cards.
These are diplomat cards that you can play for a future round. That's why it's silly.
Right. Right. Right. Right.
That's why the shogun
Shogun really did
playing tricks on me while still. Okay. Yeah. So, technically, you know, you would be able to use this if they came out in earlier rounds. This is a seven, so you'll definitely get
and the zero is nice. Anyway,
dang it.
All right, so you have priority.
I do.
Let's go into the province phase starting with you.
Oh, I should probably get my workers back.
You should probably. Oh, by the way, the new demands are pay a rice tax of nine and share forestry knowledge for two.
Okay. Okay. I'm going to start off by spending two rice. Can I have a villager, please? Yes.
And I'm going to deploy that villager onto this slot here. And we are going to grow this one into a yellow
four.
A4 yellow four. There we go.
Okay.
Why is that? Because if I want to study Yeah.
and get another yellow worker.
Yeah. It's great.
I have to do. So, I'm going to do this. I'm going to put this here. So, I'm going to study
Mhm.
yellow.
Okay. So, that's this area.
Size four yellow. Yep.
You get a yellow samurai.
I do get a yellow samurai.
There you go.
Which I can use. Um, and then I'm going to study again for these four uh tokens.
How? Oh, that's the five.
One, two, three, four, five. I'm going to study. Boom. Right there. Can I have four tokens, please?
I know what you're going to do. You're going to take that one.
Yes.
Which means I can get something else.
Yeah, you can get this one.
I can pay the rice tax.
You can.
If I have nine rice at the end of this,
if Yeah, but the rice.
It's worth more points,
just so you know.
I'll see where I land and as it gets closer. But yes, you are very right. And then of course I get this third action which is just going to harvest. So I'm going to gain myself a single rice.
Okay. So two more.
Mhm.
Can you get to the end of your board?
I can cuz I I can go here. So I can put this one here.
Mhm.
And I can get uh this one to the five which is this. I get to know all the weather. So let me take a look at all the all the weather.
All the weather. I'm just going to
That is so nice.
I must know the weather.
Okay. Make sure you maintain their order.
I did. I did. Okay. Yeah. [snorts] Let me just confirm. Yes. Okay.
Yeah.
Mhm.
Oh man. I don't think I'm going to get to the end of this.
I know that.
That's unfortunate.
That was move up. And then the now the last one is I'm going to study for a Fiverr.
Mhm.
This one here. So now we are here. We're at the very top.
Nice.
We did it.
You did it.
So now uh all my twos, three, sorry, how's this scores at the end is all my twos will score one point. All my threes will score an additional point and all my fours will score fours and fives will score an additional point. So they're going to max out.
It's going to be twos are going to be one point. Threes are two points and fours and fives are three points.
Three points. Yeah. Okay. So this is a thing there. I'm going to now spend this card. This is grow up to three trees of the same type. And I'm going to choose the cypress type.
So I'm going to grow one, two, three trees. So let me get rid of that. So, three cypress trees.
Three cypress trees. So, I'm going to go one.
And this is grow. So, I can't just plant it. Like, I can't say I'm growing here because it didn't say plant.
Yeah.
One, two, and three. There we go. So, I'm going to spend both these cards just to gain four rice.
Okay.
So, I want to go up to 1, two, three, four. Yep. So, I'm at nine now.
Oh my gosh.
Are out.
Okay.
Okay. I'm going to spend two for a villager. Two. Can I have um
Yep.
that. Thank you.
There you go. And so I'm going to put this villager here. And I'm going to chop down this size this big thing. Size five.
Okay. You're five oak.
That one. Yeah.
I will send out here.
Mhm.
And I'm going to build uh So
you're going to plant or you're going to build?
I'm going to build. Yeah. So I'm going to I'm going to break this apart as a free action and it's going to be this one. Two orange with a one yellow comes off. There's a little two
just to, you know, get something going here. Where are you building?
So, it's going to be here in this orange. You're
building a fortress.
I'm building a fortress.
Okay, there you go.
There you go. So, that's that. These go away.
Mhm.
Then I'm going to harvest here because that's what I have to do. So, that's going to be one. And then I am going to uh grow this right here.
You're going to grow. Yeah. So, one more Cypress.
Yep.
There you go.
All right. I think that's it for me.
Wow. All right. So, now it goes to me first. I am going to spend one, two, three, four to take two villagers because I would like to grow this beach. I have a uh yeah
yellow
yellow. And then I would also like to grow Oh, I have to be cautious of where I'm placing this here. Grow this oak.
And then I'm going to place out a yellow samurai here so I can study twice.
So it's going to be the four height oak for this. So, I get three research tokens. So, now I have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. I could spend some of them. And then I'm going to study this one for a height of three each. So, I get two forestry cards. Oh my gosh. Please be good to me because the Oh, okay. I mean, they are two rice each. So,
still pretty good. I don't think I'm going to be building any farms. So, I'm just going to play this forestry card now cuz it says harvest up to three rice patties and or farms in your province. Three is better than two. Yep.
So, I'm going to use it for its one, two, three.
Right. Yep.
One, two, three. Just get me some rice.
I'm also going to use this forestry card for the two rice. One, two. I just want to see how much rice I have. You know what I mean?
Yeah.
And this one. Might as well do them all. Pay four military tokens to upgrade one of your goal. I don't want to do that.
You're just taking the two rice.
Full rice. Yeah. So, I have 12 rice. Okay. So now I don't think I need to hold more than six of these. Two, three, four, five, six. I don't think I'm going to be able to study more.
So I might as well spend these two to look at the weather.
Okay.
You know,
I agree.
So I'm spending two of these. I'm going to look at these two weather cards. I will maintain their order.
Yeah.
Okay. So that's interesting. Next, I'm going to place out an artisan here, and I'm going to grow and plant. So, I'm gonna plant this here and grow one. Uh, yeah, there. Next, I'm gonna spend two rice to get a villager. I'm going to place it here. Cut this.
Okay.
And then I guess I don't really care about these structures anymore.
You know what I mean?
Um, I am going to then place out my samurai here. I'm going to cut this.
Okay. And then muster here for two military tokens, which I'm actually going to turn in all three.
Okay.
To um draw two two land bonuses. Yes. And put out one of them. Oh, I'm going to put out this one.
That one just more valuable. Yeah,
this one's just better.
Three versus uh two.
I'm going to place it here. So, I get three of these.
Good.
One, two, three. And then I'm going to spend another two rice to get a villager.
And
what are you doing? and place it here so I can grow this one.
Uh,
there's a reason later I I only got to see two of the weather cards. I'm also going to spend another rice to connect these two.
Yeah, that's good.
So, this is a four.
I see. I can build an
Yeah. And then I will spend another two rice.
Oh,
so that I can build there. I can plant there.
Plant there. Yeah. Not build. Well, I guess there really is no need to. If I were just doing it for the flooding, I'm going to hold on to the seven.
Yeah, I'm not going to spend it.
I'm just going to be done.
Okay.
Yeah, I think that's it. I think that's my game.
Yeah. Okay.
I think it's going to be really close.
You think so?
I think so. Yeah.
I guess I'll did not reach the top of my forestry track and I think we built the same number of No, you built more buildings than I did. I don't know how it could be close, but we'll find out.
So, let's go into the weather uh phase. So, I get three military tokens. Not that it really matters anymore.
Yeah,
because we're not turning them in for anything.
I get three. I get three.
Yeah.
One, two, three. There we go.
All right. Let's resolve the weather.
B. It's beach
yellow. So,
so I have three.
You get three. I have two. So, here's one, two. I'll get you one more.
Thank you. Thank you.
Okay. So, I have two. So, this four becomes a five. This one becomes a two.
I don't get any rice. I will flood that space.
Yeah, I don't get any rice, but I have buildings here, so nothing's going to happen.
Okay, let's see. Cypress. So, those are the two that I knew.
Okay, so I get one, two, three, four.
Four. Okay, so this is a five. So, I get one, two, three, four as well.
Oh, here you go.
Yeah, thank you.
Oh, that's good.
Yeah.
One, two, three, four. And then I think I get one rice.
Okay. Just this one. So, one and no additional flooding.
Okay. Yeah, same for me. Um, everything's good. I get no rice.
All right. Final weather. This will be [gasps] Am I going to
Yes, I get rice. Okay. So, this is five. Five. This is four. So, I get one tree here.
Uh, no trees for me because this is already at five. But I get uh two rice.
Me, too. I one, two rice. One, two. And this floods, no double flooding. Oh, it wasn't as dramatic with the floods this time around. No,
I think we managed our floods wisely.
Yeah. Yeah. The more you play it, the more you understand like the detriment of the floods.
The danger, the origin of the danger, basically. All right, that is it for weather. Let's go into our final Shogun's Demand phase, starting with Nev.
All right, so you have how many of these tokens? Six.
I have six.
As do I. But you have how much rice? 10.
10
to my 10. This is worth just straight up more points.
Yeah. So, I'm going to have to do the rice. I'm going to pay the rice tax. I was the rice guy. One, two, three.
Yo, you spent a lot of rice.
I spent all like down a one.
Okay.
Cuz this is going to be worth 14 versus your 11 there. So, you know.
Yeah. Then you can take the two.
And then I can take the two. Yeah, exactly.
All right. That was a better play. But I'm glad I held on to my six.
Y
cuz I will share.
I kind of wish you had spent your rice at the end there cuz I knew all three weather.
Oh,
I knew about oak and you only got it on oak. I spent
had you spent your two for village then I could have said fine I'll go do this then I'll go do that.
You have to be a risk. You know what I mean? Like my rice this could look at all the villagers I could have had.
But you still have to be a risk or else Nina's just going to think you have all the points.
Yeah. If I knew you couldn't mathematic because I knew the weather so I could look at your board like I'm good. Yeah. My high priority.
Well, it's back to you.
Okay. So, uh I'm going to do this one. Share forestry knowledge. I'm going to uh do two of these.
Okay.
Uh so that's going to go there. That's an extra five points. That's good.
And then I will take the last build in Edeto. So it's a
They were all cleared out. We did it all.
It's a three and a four.
Boom.
Yeah. So we each got five.
Yeah. That's nice.
Yeah.
You probably got the higher
scoring. So you can't truly know because there's a couple that are hidden.
Yeah.
So you want to see what a few that we didn't
bolster military three the bolsters.
Yeah.
Look at that. I had all this money. All this bolster stuff. Yeah. Dang it.
All this bolster stuff.
Bolster stuff. All the military tokens.
Okay, that is it. That is the end of the game. So now we're going to go into final scoring and it's just a few things. So I'm going to keep track of our scores. Starting with the structures built. So since you have priority, would you like to just do?
So it's uh 12 + uh 8 is 20 + 4 24 + 2 26.
26. Okay.
So for me uh I think I have just two fewer, right? 12. So 20 24
24. So So I have 26 to your 24.
Okay. Next we are going to score the trees in our province. that's going to be based on what we've unlocked here.
So, I'm at the very top. I get to the very very top of this studying research. So,
basically, all my twos will get me one point. All my threes will get me two points. All my fours and fives will get me three points. So, let's start just from the top down.
Sure.
This is a five. So,
three, six,
this is a three. 7 8
Uh-huh.
9 10 11
That's a five. Uh-huh.
12 13 14
Mhm.
15 16 17
Oh my gosh. 18 19 20 21 22 23 24
Oh my gosh. Bad news, Monique. Okay, so my twos are worth nothing.
Your twos are nothing.
It's just threes, fours, and fives. And it's only two and three points cuz I only reached up to here.
Mhm.
So starting from up here.
Yeah.
So this is two,
four, four,
six,
uh, eight,
uh, six.
This is the four. Eight. Yeah.
Eight.
This is a three. Nine.
10, 11, 12, 13. 14 15
15 points. Okay. Okay. Okay.
The gap widens.
We got to spread it out.
Shogun's demands are next. So, Naveen,
your 5 + 4 19
19 + 8 27
27 plus eight 36.
35.
Oh, wait. What is it? 37. 385. Yes.
35. Yhuh.
Plus 11. So, 46.
46. Yeah.
As for me, let's go backwards. So seven,
another 19 29
29
40 53
53.
Oh,
so you had better points there.
I did.
So we're balancing.
We're balancing. It's a balancing act. All right. Finally, it's all going to come down to this. Our Shogun's favorite cards. Now I have four.
I You can only score maximum three of them. So let's just figure out
which three. I will just I'll do these three. Do you want to go back and forth or you want to just do all of yours?
Oh, we can go back and forth. All right, let's go. Let me I'll do all of Yeah. Yeah. Ting it up. This was a bummer.
City buildings.
Okay.
Uh for every farm and fortress uh in my province. So I I'm in this category. One to four. I really wanted to get into this next uh five to six. So I have one, two, three fortress, four with a farm. So I'm going to score two points there. Two.
Two.
So keep that there. Two. Then then these I'm I'm going to max out. Shogun's demands fulfilled at the highest level, which obviously in a two-player game you can at the highest level. So, I have five of them. One, two, three, four, five.
That's 14. That's uh 16 points total.
Okay.
And then this one right here, this is why I'm collecting a lot of these blue the teal ones.
Two plus height cypress trees in your province. If I have five or greater, then it's 11. So, 1 2 3 4 5. So,
nice.
So, was that uh 16 + 11? That's uh 27.
Yeah, 27.
27. Is that bad?
Yeah, I think you're good. So this is just structures structure tokens removed from the top row. Remember that one I took it. I only moved one.
One.
So two points.
Two points. Okay. That was like my two.
This is bonus land tiles added to my province. So I believe I just made it to the four.
Oh yeah.
This is why I was building out fortresses. So one, two, three, four. And that was why I wanted that bonus that that favor so badly.
Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah.
So seven points. So I'm at nine.
So nine.
And then rich forests. This is for having three or taller height trees in the longest diagonal line in my province. This line.
Oh, five. Yeah.
One, two, three, four, five. That is why I did all this in the end there.
I was like, yeah,
12 points.
So, I think that is 21.
21. Yeah.
Yeah. So, six points less. All right.
Okay. Is it It's going to be close.
That is it. So, I'm going to go ahead and calculate our final scores and then I'll see you in a second. All right. Final scores are in. They are me with 113 to Naveen with 123.
Oh, okay. 10 points.
Big difference. It wasn't close. 10 points is pretty big spread.
10 points. I mean, I got the two points on extra building. That was a little spread, but you got the uh the the demands.
Yes,
you had a good spread there.
Did I?
Yeah, you got like 53 to like my 42 or something like that. But then but then I got the trees on my my things that got all the way to the top.
I think that was the difference. Naveen was able to get to the very top of his forestry board whereas I kind of stopped short. I think what would have been, you know, what would have made truly the difference for me is if I made more buildings. I kind of started strong with building the buildings and then I think I think what really happened with me is I focus too hard on my
These are like you want to try to get them. They're really hard to do, but if you can try to get them like over the course of the game, then they're great. But these are like points now. two of them kind of were counter to each other. The the the longest diagonal.
Yeah,
because like you then have to cut them down to go make that building in the top.
I know that was when this got kind of
You should probably deviated maybe possibly.
I got I Yeah, I kind of just started working on this hard.
This building is this 11 points right here,
right?
Plus what if you take it from one to two, how many points you get?
One to two where
on the in the top row. Oh, in the top.
Yeah, it's another five. So, so that's 16 points compared to the diagonal.
I know. I debated that, but I kind of went in the opposite direction, and that was that was probably the problem.
Yeah.
I also worked really hard on getting these tiles that was only like seven points. I should not have focused as hard on these these favorite
the military things, though. Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Mine weren't really counter to each other. Then held me back from wanting to cut down any of my light blue ones. So, that one felt like I was like, "All right, I'm going to keep these here. I'm going to make sure they're protected." When this oak came off and we had like the oak oak
issue, then I had to go b like hire a villager just to come here to plant it so that it wouldn't cascade down and ruin this thing.
Which one was the card that you said changed your whole life?
Oh, uh, it was this one. No, it was this one.
It was that one.
This one. This is the one. I was like, "Oo, I don't have too much." But then when I drew this tile, I was like, "Okay, I'm going to make this happen."
Oh, I see.
Because without it, I would have to make sure every single one of my Cypress tiles had
had trees. They couldn't have the You can't have
You can't build a building on it.
You can't have this on there because now you can't plant on it.
You let it get destroyed.
You let it get Yeah. Well, yeah. You would have to let it get destroyed, but then you're like,
have to let the flood wash it away.
So, once I drew this, I was like, "Ooh, okay. How am I going to make this work out?" And then I had this one also. M
that came shortly in there. Yeah, I started the game with this one.
Okay,
fulfill the Shogun's demands. I'm like, well, clearly I'm going to want to do that.
You're going to want to do that. Okay, that was a nice one.
All right. Well, there you go. That is Ringo. Now, again, we are playing a two-player game at higher player counts. More of these spaces will be available on the Shogun's demands. We'll also have more, of course, favor cards coming out. We saw all of them. We saw all of those gift cards.
We also saw, of course, all of the weather weather cards, but we didn't see all of these. These are all just all the different types, just different combinations just, you know, to help determine uh the heavy rainfall. Now, in the final version of the game, there will also be an opposite side that has lakes for more experience play. But for your first few games, you can just do what we did and just play with the a sides of the boards.
Well, there you have it. That is Ringo. Now, this game is currently on Kickstarter. So, if you are in the campaign, there's going to be a link in the description which you can check out. If you have questions about the gameplay, feel free to leave in the comments down below. We'll try to get back to you as soon as we can. And thank you all so much for watching the video.
