Raindrops | 2-Player Playthrough
Transcript
Hi everybody and welcome back to another solo playthrough video. Today we're going to be playing Raindrops. This was very kindly gifted to me by DV Games. So huge shout out to them for sending this my way. And when they sent me this uh via email like do you want to re receive a copy this? I was like yes send it to me. This looks amazing. So cute and cozy. I kind of want to wear a sweater for this video, but it's too hot to wear a sweater, but I just want to get cozy. I'm also just done with summer, and I'm so excited for like cozy fall rain. So, this just came at the perfect time to get a bit more cozy. Um, so yeah, it's it's like um I don't even know how to describe it really. It's like tile placement, but not really. So, we're going to go and dive right in. So, we're doing something a little bit different today. I know in the intro, obviously, I said I'm doing a solo playthrough. That's not really true. We're doing a two-player playthrough of Raindrops. Um, it doesn't have a solo mode. I should iterate that.
So, we're doing two player. I do think you could just play this solo. Um, but I thought it would be fun to to do a two-player for once. I've never really done that before. So, let's try something different. Um, you play until someone has completed 10 of these raindrop cards, uh, which are called memory cards. But for this play through, I'll play until someone has six, uh, just to shorten it a little bit and I just want to obviously have you guys get a sense of the game uh, and if it would be something that you would enjoy. So, that is what we are doing today. There we go. So, each player gets three cards. They choose two to put on their player mat. Um, and the others will go in the card you have left over will go in the open market. So, let's see what we have. I like to do some different.
So, these are quite similar ink colors. I mean, they're all quite similar, but let's let's do these two. So, this one will go here. And for our second player, H. Let's see. Let's do this one and the cat. So, this one will go here. We will then fill out the market until there is four cards because uh there will always be four cards to choose from. So, this game is about watching the raindrops on a window, watching them like slide down. So, we're going to try to find patterns in the raindrops. So, these are the raindrops. We're going to try to find patterns. Um, and we will take tiles, place them on our memory cards, and when we complete them, we uh try to collect sets basically. So, the first player that gets three sweater cards, so three with a sweater on them gets seven points for the end of the game. Uh, and the next one that does it will get five points. You also have this one, which is obviously the highest value, which is one of each, except for the cats. So, the cats don't work towards any of the goals, but they usually score you more points than the regular items. So, that is how that works. We're just going to start um and we'll see how it goes. You have these
little um tokens which you like hand out at the start of the game and the player that has the one with this purple arrow with the little icon is the first player. Um and everybody places it in the right column. Uh this will allow us to do a little bit of a bonus action at the start of our turn. So this is going to be the first player we are going to start. We're going to try to find a path through the raindrops following one color. Um, obviously you can see some of these drops have two colors, so you can use those as well. Um, but you have to always move down. So, for example, you have to start at the very top row. So, if I wanted to follow yellow, you would be like, "Oh, that's four yellow in a row already." No, you have to go always in a downward motion. So, you can't go left to right. So, I could start here, go down diagonally, down, down, down. That would be a possible thing I could do. I couldn't go to the right here because that's again in a straight line [clears throat] to the side. You can obviously go straight down. We have these little droplets that we can use. You don't have to use these when you play, but it can help you mark a path. Now, we do need quite some yellow. We could also go the green way, which I think green here, it has a lot of potential because I could literally
go all the way diagonal. So, this counts as green. You cannot now change to yellow and do a yellow path. You have chosen green. Green is your color. I could even go like this, like this, and like this. all the way down to the bottom of the window, which is awesome. So, now we're going to collect all the tiles that I have put a drop on. So, let's collect all of them.
Here we go. I [snorts] have reached a lightning bolt. So, the lowest row uh allows you to reach lightning bolts, which makes me able to draw the top of this, which is three bonus points for the end of the game. There will be different points on these lightning bolts. So, you could get four points or five points. We will slide the window like so. And we will refill this for the next player's turn. Now, what I could have done, I forgot, is at this because there was such a good green action. You can, if you want to select one of these actions to change something on the board, you can flip one like so, like change the orientation. You [snorts] can swap two that are next to each other. It doesn't matter where, but I could like swap these two. Um, or you could take any one of the little tiles and put it at the top of the window. So, those are your options to manipulate the board to get a better sequence like chain of droplets. So, now let's place them on our memory cards. So, I always try to place the the one colored ones first because obviously those are way more limited in what they can accomplish.
Now, I have two more of those that I can't use. Uh, we can complete this memory straight away. So, that's good. And then we can place we can place it on either one, but this one can only go here. So, we put this one here [snorts] and this one here. Now mind you, you are allowed to place uh your tiles like this. Sometimes it will have different colors next to each other like right here. [snorts] Um but though then it would be more difficult to accomplish because you will never have two of the same colors on one tile. So these two I can keep in my little reserve. You can reserve two tiles. No more, no less. So now I will get rid of these. These will just go in the discard section. and I will have accomplished my first memory.
So, this will just go below my player mat. They won't show on video, but it's okay. And I will immediately choose a new card to add. I could go for the set cuz there isn't another sweater. There is a teacup. Then we do need all the same though, which I a little bit sad. We could go for this cat, which I think is fun. So, let's do that. We refill this. I cannot place these on this memory card. You have done the tile placement phase. When you complete a memory, it your turn is like done. So, you cannot place tiles anymore. So, these will stay here until my next turn. Um, and now we refill the board for the next player.
So, this is how it goes. You have to just place them and not think about it. [snorts and clears throat] However which way they they come out of the bag. There we go. Now I need a bunch of colors, so doesn't really matter much, I think. Um, blue is kind of a dead end. We could do yellow this time. That could be fun. Let's do yellow. I am going to use this ability to flip this tile upside down. I will just use the droplets so I can show you guys the way I'm moving about. So, we're going to go here, here, here, down, down, down, and I can even go down here as well. So, let's pick up all of these all of these tiles. There we go. I've now uncovered two lightning bolts. That doesn't mean I get two, but you can look at the top two. Choose one. We'll choose the five points. And this one will go on the bottom of the stack.
And of course, we slide it again. And then we will we will refill it in a little bit. So, this is what I have to work with. H. It's always I find it tricky to like see what I need on the board. Um, but we can place this one here. And we could place this one or this one. No, not that one. Oh, here. Wait. We have just a good one like that. So, that's completed. That's awesome. Let's see. Purple and green. I think we only have this one. That is so sad. That's the only one we can put there. Um, so that does mean we have a very difficult choice to make which two to keep. So, let's complete this cat and see which card we want. Uh, we have a book. There's no book. So, let's see what we have, what we could work towards. Preferably no purple and green. Maybe something with a I do have a lot of yellow.
Um, let's go for this cup. Let's go for this cup. We're saving this one and this one. So, we can place those there. And these will sadly just get discarded. Okay, we also have these smaller bonus tiles. I will explain those if we ever get them. Um, it is when you get three or fewer tiles from the window, you get to choose a little bonus tile, but usually I find that you can find a way to get more than three tiles. So, haven't been had that happen too too often. Okay. Well, we need some purple and yellow for sure. So, let's see. I mean, we could start with yellow.
Let's see. H, why not? Okay. So, what I'll do um is instead I'll flip one. I'll flip that one. We'll go one, two, and then either that one or that one. I think this one's better for us. So, I will only get three tiles. Just talked about me not never having that happen really. So, we can grab a bonus tile. But, let me first place them and then see which bonus tile we want to get. Um, so this is going to go here. I do now have the same the same thing. Um, let's put this one here. So, we can at least complete that one. This one can go here.
So, what we're going to do with the bonus tiles is there's no purple. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to place this here like so with the green matching up. The the yellow doesn't match. I'm going to take a blue from the display and place it on top. So, this now does match. And we only need this one. Um, so that is what we'll do. You are allowed to place this. So, I could place this here thinking like, oh, I will get a bonus style for the purple later. Um, but obvious you can't remove them from the cards. So, it's not very wise to do that. Well, we have completed this a plant. Wonderful. So, I now have a plant and a sweater. So, I could go for another sweater to try to get sweaters.
So, let's do that. So, let's take that one. Um, yes, I think I think that's good. Okay, let's refill and see what our next player will do. So, um, when I choose my bonus action, I can't choose the one that I'm on. You have to move it. So, I only have these two available now. So, that's good to to remember. Okay, we want a lot of purple, actually. So, maybe let's see if we can get a purple chain going somehow. Let's see. It could Purple's kind of blocked off a little bit.
So that's sad. Could do that. Could move this one up here, but then I would only take three. Could focus on green. I feel like there's a lot of green. Um, let's just see what happens. But I need to flip one because there's no green at the top. So, let's do this one where I like take one tile and put it at the top. So, let's take this one actually and place that one all the way at the top. Let's see how much green we can get. And then we'll just see how that works for us. Probably not very well, but we'll we'll see. We preferably want some like green doubles with purple and yellow, but o I fear it's going to be a tricky a tricky thing.
At least we have this one. So that's good. We can put these here. That's also good. Um then I don't have any more. O, that's pretty bad. This is the only one with purple and I can't use it. Let's save that one though. God. And I have two. That's not great. That's not great. I would have at least liked to completed one of them. But let's keep the two with the double colors cuz those are obviously better. And then next turn we might have to just take a couple less tiles. We'll see. It's also if you uh run out of if the bag runs out a second time in the game, you also end the game even if people didn't get to 10 cards.
[snorts] Okay, my turn. Let's see. We want a bunch of stuff, which is like it's nice. It's nice to have variety of options for your memory cards, obviously, but you know, that's just definitely the case. Um, we could go maybe on a blue path. Is that even an option for us to go on a blue journey? Let me just Sometimes I just need to see what happens. Let's see what happens if I put this one at the top. The blue one. Oh, no. That just that's just a dead end there. Okay. Sadly, that's pretty sad. Not a lot of blue at the top here.
Um, which makes this difficult because even if I would be able to flip this, which I can't, but then it would even even that would be a dead end. If I put this one at the top, it also doesn't connect to anything blue. And if I put this one on the top, even that would just give me those. So, [snorts] not a lot to work with with blue. So maybe we should do yellow. Yellow's looking not too too bad. Could go like D. Let's just do that. Let's do yellow. So I don't have to show you. I'm going to take these, this one, and this one. So I'm taking four.
Um let's see what we have. So this one can go here. So, I'm completing that one. This one can go here. Wow. And that is all I can do. Let's definitely keep this one. So, we have two different ones. And we are completing this one. The bonus tiles, if there's at the end of the game, if they're still on your card, they will score you the points that are visible. If you score the card, which we're doing now, I will flip it and it will be one point. at the end of the game for us. So, taking the cat. There we go. I'm just going to stack these. Why not? Um, so I would love another sweater. You can also just take the top card of the deck if you want to. So, let's do that. Let's just see what that's dangerous though.
But let's do it. Okay. No sweater, but it's fine. Um, let's refill. We need some purple for sure. The sad thing with this situation is that I if I will probably complete both of these now. I'll try at least. But you can then not put your tiles on the next card, you know. So that is a little bit sad. So, what I will do, I'm actually not sure if this is allowed where you stop before ending the chain. So, I can do purple. I could just do these two purples and that would end the chain. So, let's do that. I'm I'm taking these two. I'm putting this one here and this one here. I am allowed to grab a bonus doll. You can keep those in your supply. So, let's take this double color one. Maybe I should do this one. Keep that in my supply.
Scoring both of these. So, I have a book and a teacup. We could do a plant. Go for the set situation because I have a cat as well. But like, do I take the teacup to try to go for three teacups or do I take a plant and go for a set? You know, this is this is the struggle here. This is the struggle. Um, we could take both. Of course, I'm taking two. Awesome. Okay, let's take this one then. And let's take a plant that's very different. So, let's take this plant. Okay. A sweater. I want that. I want that. This player wants it.
[clears throat] Okay, there we go. All right. Well, we need a bunch of stuff, which I guess is nice. Um, green and blue. A lot of green and blue. So, let's do a green. Let's do a green one. I don't even think I have to move my my situation. Wait, you know what? Oh, wait. I can flip one. Can't do that. Let's move this one to the top. There we go. See? See if I've done something clever here. Green, green, green, green, green, green, green, green. There we go.
That's great. And it will give me two lightning bolts again. So, there we go. Two lightning bolts. 404 points. So, doesn't matter. Okay. Damn. Let's see what we what we got. We have a bunch of stuff. Okay. Let's start with this the simple ones first that have no double colors because those are, as I've said, obviously harder to place. Okay. Well, I'd love this one to then go here so I can complete it. This one can go here.
This one. No, [cough] [clears throat] I thought it could go there for a second. It cannot. So, that's that's all I can play. So, I'm going to get rid of this one and we're going to save these two. So, these will go. You can swap them out. Um, so we've completed another sweater. That's awesome. And I'm taking this sweater card. That is great. All right, let's refill the board. So, I have now completed four memories so far. Next player. Okay, we do have these two. I can use this one. Can I even use this one? I don't think so. Oh, I can with the blue and the green. Okay, that's good. Okay, that is nice. I like that.
So, maybe we do a purple one. Oh, and purple's looking good. Do we want to move anything? I don't think so. Let's see. Down, down, down, down, down, down the road. Down the witch's road. All right. There we go. All right.
[snorts]
So, let's see what we can place first. Starting with, as always, the the monochrome colored ones. Wonderful. Do we have a purple blue? We do. That's good. And then we can do green, blue, and green blue. Completing both. Let's save these two so we have a little bit of variety and then we're completing both of these. Okay, so that's already five. So I have two teacups and one plant. So we're going to take the candle and let's take a blind one to see if we can get a teacup. Wow, amazing.
That is so lucky. I love it. All right, so we need purple mostly. Lot of purple for sure. So, let's focus on purple again. H. See if we can manipulate the board somehow to up to up our chances here. We could go down here already, but then we're stuck. could swap that one, but then we're stuck after that. What if I move this one to the top? Yeah, let's do it. Oh, I can't. I can't because I've used that power already. No, that would have been awesome. That would have been great.
So, maybe I should just swap these two. Go like that. like this, you know.
All right. What do we have? I need green, blue, but I don't have it. Don't have it. And both of them need it. That is unfortunate for sure. Oh man, this is bad. O should have probably done something else, but okay. Wow. I can't use any of these. Damn. Oh well, that's my that's my bad. So, getting rid of all those. This is just the way it is.
Let's see if I'm more lucky on this side of the of the player area. I also have this one. Shouldn't forget about that. Um, it is just two points as well. I don't think it has to be on a card. I think if you just have it unused, it's the points that is on the bonus tile. So, okay, we need a lot of blue. So, let's do blue.
Okay. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. That's great. And we uncovered two lightning bolts. So, let's take five points. That's great. Okay. Well, we have lots of stuff to work with. I love to see it. I love it. There we go. Can go here. Maybe I should put this one here. Try to get this one completed. Okay, these are Can't use. What else do we have? We have yellow, purple, green, purple.
So, we've completed that one. We have blue green here. Now we need yellow. Amaze. Wow. So I will keep guess these two. And we have completed both of these. That is great. And now I have three cups. Amaze. So I get this cloud. Um, and I if I only had one more sweater, I would get this one. But I do have seven cards now. So, we're gonna quit this game here. Um, so, as I've said, the game plays until 10 cards or until you have emptied the bag twice.
But now, we're just going to we're just going to score points. So, I'm going to get rid of all this. I think this player won. Um obviously [clears throat] so you count points on uh the completed of course memory cards, the leftover tokens, bonus tiles, the clouds, and the lightning bolts. So that is what we we count. Let me count both of these points and then I'll get back to you. Okay, so this player has 35 points and this player has 51. So this player definitely won. Obviously, it's not completely fair because we didn't finish the game, but this was just mostly to give you a feel of how it plays. Um, I think it's a really cute theme for a game. I think the tiles are beautiful. The window display is beautiful. I do think it's just a little bit repetitive. Um, so I don't think the replayability here would be very very high. Um, obviously the game would be the same every time. Uh, but I do think it's a really cute cozy introductory game. Um, I think you could just play this solo even if you don't like rep like try to get an AI going. You could just sit here with one player mat, try to get the raindrops, and then
because it's the board changes from one player so much already, I feel like that would work still. Um, so you could just make it a cozy one player game. I think I don't think that would change too too much. Obviously, getting the goals would be maybe a bit more difficult. I don't know. Um, but I might give it a try and I'll let you guys know. But this is the two-player game. I think it's actually going to be available at Gen Con. I'm not 100% sure, but I'll leave all the info down below for this game if you want to check it out. DV Games have done a lot of great games. I really like their uh they have like some kind of like Phoenix Wright Attorney Mystery Games. Those are fun. Um, but this is a very nice cozy lightweight game um that I think would be great to just have as a casual cozy game or with some introductory board game friends. Um, but I do feel like it would be uh the replayability would be on the lower end for me. But that's obviously my personal opinion. Um, I hope you guys enjoyed and I'll see you guys soon with a new video.
Bye.
