Good morning everybody. Welcome to the Dice Hour. I'm Tom Vassel.

And I'm Camila.
Travis here teaches a game called Coral Castle which you can get right now. You can get it through retail or through his website which we have a link to it in the description. Travis, what is this game about?
So, in Coral Castle, we are building the prettiest mermaid garden under the sea. Um, you see here we have our lovely sea creature meeples, our lovely pearls, and we're going to be building this nice coral reef. Uh, the goal of the game is to score the most points by racing up these tracks. I'm going to be racing with my mele up the track and at the end we will score those. So, it's a card drafting game. We're going to be drafting nine cards and we're going to just going to go around the room just like Sushi Go or some kind of uh simple card drafting game. And we're going to be picking cards. Then you're going to be collecting pearls. So, you'll collect money and then you'll be playing those cards out onto the table.
So, we have five that we start with. Is that right?
Yeah. Five pearls. And for example, if I played these six cards out here, um I'm going to get some stuff from it. So, this, for example, gives me a mermaid.
You can flip them. The camera is actually facing you.

There you go. Okay, cool. This sea lettuce is going to give you a mermaid which will move you up the track on the mermaid track. So, uh you're doing that for all these. This gets you trident. Some things give you more than others. Uh there is a pearl cost on some of these cards. This one cost two pearls. Um and sometimes there is a condition to meet like you have to play this with a meruroke. So each of these cards they're colorcoded. This would be a muroke, a plant, an item, a sea creature. They all have a different type. Those types will help us combo to move up the tracks.
What does the letter in the top corner mean?
So, that is the module. Uh, in the four player game, you work with modules A through D.
Ah, okay.
And those are the different card combos that are grouped together.

I've been thinking about it for a long time.
So, it's possible to take a card that costs a lot of pearls. And I don't mean to play it now, but I'm going to I might keep it to save for round two if I want to.

The cards that give two pearls,
do they have a name to them or that anything ever need them in play?

The first the first round can be uh kind of a setup round where you're trying to create a big combo the next round. I don't particularly like any of these.

So, I am the green sea turtle. I'll go one, two. Uh, but this says double all plants. So that tentacle that I had on the plant will double. So I'll get one more. So I'll go there. That gets me two mermaids when I either cross or land on this spot. So I'll get two mermaids. One, two.
Uh, so I've done the tentacles. Then I move to mermaids. I have no I have one mermaid, which will trigger the waterfall there. Uh, and then trident. I have one, two, doubled, four trident. One, two, three, four, which will get me two pearls.
And we're getting crushed.
I don't I don't I'm not so keen on my my turn here.
I'll get two stars, which are worth points. Uh at the start of the game, you can draft stars for points, but all these uh tracks will turn into points at the end of the game. If you win the track, you'll get a lot of points. And yeah, that's my turn. All right, mermaids. I have one, two, three. So, I am blue. I'll go one, two, three. Wait, I did mermaids. I should be doing tentacles. I'm sorry. One tentacle plus one tentacle for each big fish. That was a terrible combo. So, that's just two two of those.

cuz I felt like I got stronger cards this round. Yeah, it was a bit of a stronger round, but you had those kind of cards to work with.
Um, so no matter what, the second round is always stronger.

Yeah, the cards are in different modules. So, like the A cards are mostly coral and then there's sea creatures and merur folk in all the modules. Uh, module B is fish, module C is plants in a three-player game, four player game, you're mixing the different modules that will synergize.
Is there another module added in for five?
Yeah, and it covers all across. There's no more different types, new types. It just blankets. There's an even amount of fish, plants, corals, muroke in that one.

Oh, that's terrifying. So, I went for a strategy where I was completing these requirements. Uh, this one was really hard to do, so I had to kind of make an eclectic board here. Uh, I'm going to start with tentacles. I got one, two, three, four, five tentacles. Six tentacles. Six tentacles for green. One, two, three, four, five, six. Oh, so close. I get two mermaids. Then I'll do mermaids. I get one. And trident. I got one, two, three, four, five. So, one, two, three, four, five. We get our first coral of the game. Hey,
right now we are building a pretty coral reef. Uh, so that is the part of the collective part of the game. But now that I've gone there, this is 10. I go back to start and now I'm at 11 trident. So, as I try to win this track of trident, I've got 11.

I didn't know you could do that. It's awesome. the cards are as interpreted as offensively as possible. You can create some pretty bonkers strategies, combos
as offensively.

So, I get six. And then, uh, Stingray is going to barely beat out dolphin for third place.

This we have octopus again. Octopus goes to 12. Uh, this is going to be close. Dolphin's going to get second. So, 10 and 17 16. So they beat out the turtle and turtle gets third.

And then here we have Camila's dolphin lead. Uh and then second place we have a tie possibly. Yeah.
Oh, what happens in case of a tie?
So we're just going to share the 11 points
and no third.

I believe that at that point you guys cancel and pink swoops in. So yeah, we'll add points.

Messing with my realm, my underwater realm. Now, we actually
played the game longer than it needed to be played because we we could have resolved all this simultaneous.
Yes, everything's simultaneous. The the card drafting, the card playing, the gaining of pearls, and the scoring if you want it to be. Most people uh you know, like to see at least the first round,
how people scored, but then if you want to quicken it up, everyone can just put all your stuff on the board and you can make for a quick game.
Yeah. Can you show us the cards that are in the other module?
Uh yeah. Uh
and this is the color shell.

For the fifth player, right?
Yep. So there's no more different types. What you saw was items. The pink cards go across all modules. Um shells are the D cards. Uh sea creatures go across all modules and muroke go. So the heart of the game is kind of these three across all three. Um, and then the modules are plants, coral, shells, and fish over there.
Now, are they tied to a number of players or can you just pick one when you put add another player?
Um, you can mix and match them. The only thing you can't really mix and match are these E cards because they don't balance well if you
cuz they they have everything in them.
Because they have everything. But you have this these are the beach cards. So, the theme is beach card. She's put it probably here on the on the board. Actually, that might be best cuz the board we have a zoom for the board. I think
that's why you ruined the score. I don't want to see.
Yeah. Right. Who got what?
I I wrecked you guys.
There's a palm tree. Coconut tree.

Oh. Um, and then the theme of this is there's a mermaid called Lauraai or Laura Lee and she has uh
she's gonna never you'll never see day again.
Like a siren theme.

So, yeah, each module has their own theme
and then that adds more. And there's actually an expansion that you can get on my website for a six player and it comes with it's Mariana Trench themed.
I like that. And is it kind of the same thing with these cards?
Yeah. Uh,
so just like a mix of everything again,
but the they're pretty wonky. Like I tried to be real creative in
what the new cards are.
So there's some cool strategies
once that bend the rules.
