Kano | Solo Playthrough
Transcript
Hi everybody and welcome to another solo play-through video. Today we're going to be playing Cano. This is a new game published by Matagot Matagot. I hope I'm saying that right. Uh designed by Angel Pintero and this is just a stunning stunning looking game. Um it's a one to four player. We're going to play it solo obviously. Um it is very difficult solo. I don't think we're going to beat it and that is okay. I'm just excited to show you guys more about this game how it works. I knew nothing about this but it just really looked amazing and when I heard the solo was going to be very difficult I was like yes please and it has tile placement. So it's like puzzly right up my alley. So this will be at Spiel as well I'm pretty sure. So if you're going to Spiel I'm hoping this will maybe give you more insight into what the game looks looks like and the multiplayer is pretty much the same as the solo in terms of gameplay. So you will really get just a bit of insight into how the game works. All right, let's go. This is what the game looks like. It is absolutely stunning. We have these paint pots that we're going to use to make these paintings.
So this is an overview of all the paintings that we can make. So this is just a player aid. It also has the turn order on the other side. So this really is just to showcase all the paintings that we can do. Now how this game works is we're going to score points for a bunch of different things. So I will just explain that and that is going to make the most sense while I'm playing so you get a bit of a hang of it. So let me just walk you through everything that's going to score us points. So first the thing that's going to score us points is masterpieces. So we're going to draw three masterpieces and we're going to choose one That's going to be our first masterpiece. So, we have some uh colors laid out, so we can also choose based on what's out there. There's quite a bit of yellow, so and they all have yellow, so that's pretty good. Um I think there isn't a lot of blue, but I do think we're going to go for this one.
Um and I will explain that in a little bit. Okay. So, the other masterpieces go back on the bottom of the pile. This playmat is supposed to be vertical, but for filming purposes, I've put it horizontal, so this is supposed to be like that. Yeah, so that's why it looks maybe a little bit off and the numbers are uh not upright. Um but for filming, this is just easier, so I'm sorry, but um you will get a better view of everything this way, so um okay. So, masterpieces first, they are 12 points each. Then we have our white points, so our white goal. We have a white goal and a red goal. The white goal is going to score us points based on where we have our sun and our moon. So, all these masterpieces or all these artworks, um you will uh be able to paint them as many times as you want. You could paint five samurais if you wanted to. Um but the sun and the moon, you can only have one of each because we only have one sun and one moon in our skies. Um so, we can't make any more of those. Um and there's different white goals in the game uh that decide how you would score the sun and the moon. Um we've gone with an easy one, so the paint brushes on the side show you how difficult it is. So, this has one paintbrush um out of three, so it's the easiest one.
And we are either going to score three points if we have a sun or a moon, so one of each, in the green area on our board. You can't place the sun and the moon anywhere else. Um or you get five points if you have both of them in the sky, but not adjacent. And then seven points if they both are in your sky and adjacent to each other. Um so that's the white goal. Then we have the red goal. These are the white goal there's like four different ones. The red ones you have a bunch. It's like 10 different ones, I think. Um again, based on difficulty, we've gone with easy because it's already hard enough, okay? Um so we've done an easy goal. Now we will score points based on um the artworks that we make in this red goal.
So um how am I going to explain this? So you need to try basically to make all of these. So two tigers is still only going to score me one cuz I have one of the artworks in this piece. So doubles don't count. So I'm going to try to make one of each of these if I can, if I'm able. Um so we'll see if that works. I have a tray here that has all of the uh artworks. It's so uh this I love it. It is so nice that that is just all in there together. Um so masterpieces, white goal, red goal, then you just get points based on the size of everything. Um so you just get points based on um everything that you've made.
Uh one-point artworks score you one point, two-sized artworks three, and three-sized artworks seven. That's also why this one is a bit of an easier goal because we have all of the three-point artworks um in here, which is really nice. And then if you're able to complete your whole painting, you get a bonus of three points. And that is how we're going to score the game. We're just going to play. We're just going to play. So, first I will show you the turn order, so you can follow that along if you want. So, first we can exchange It's like Candy Crush, basically. So, we can swap two paint pots. And you're going to be able to take everything in a straight line, vertical or horizontal, of the same color. So, if, for example, I were to do this, I'm not allowed to take these four, but I am allowed to take all three of these.
So, what I will do is, obviously, I will swap these two. And we're going to take all four of these yellow. So, we're going to just take all of them. Now, this game works based on gravity. So, see it as like a painting, you can't place this here. It's going to fall down to the bottom. And that's how it works. Um so, we're going to place We also want to cover all of these helmets as quickly as we can. So, we're going to try to do that. I'm just going to put these two here as a base for our beautiful artwork here.
[snorts]
And we do have one tiger that has two yellow, so let's just place that there, and we're going to immediately Uh so, that's the first the second You know, we've placed our paint pots, and now we can make an artwork if we can and if we want to. You don't have to make an artwork. I could just leave it like this. You can only make an artwork if How am I going to say this? If at least one of the paint pots that you're using has been placed that turn. So, if on my next turn, I place something here, and I'm like, "Oh, I want to make this into the tiger now." I cannot do that because I haven't placed any of the these paint pots that turn. Um so, we're going to exchange these straight away for a tiger.
Um and the tiger has to go like this. So, some of the artworks you can flip. So, all the people and all like these nature artworks, you can either place them hor- horizontally or vertically. Um and it shows you a little picture of the like horizontal version. Um and even this like river, you can flip it like that. But, the tiger, you cannot place the tiger like this, for example. That's not allowed. It has to go like that. And the horses as well, the bamboo, um it shows you that you can flip it or not. Um So, that is very important because obviously sometimes you're like, "Ooh, that would work perfectly right there in my painting." But, you might not be able to place it there based on how the orientation of the painting is.
Okay, we're going to fill our little roster. So, again, we're playing against Master Jun. He is a master of the arts and he will kick our ass. Um which is sad, but it is just the truth. So, to simulate another player's turn, we're going to look at which paint color there is the most. So, we have four green and that is what we have the most of. So, green is going to go away. That's fine. It's going to go back into the bag. And we're going to draw new colors. Mix it up real nice first. Um and we're going to place out some new things. We need more blue, but it's okay.
So, now Master Jun is going to score five points on the general track and he's going to score one painting. Oh, that's Here on the red track. Which isn't going to score him points now on the on the general one. Um but we will score those points later. So he's basically going to complete complete one of these every turn. Um it's and it's just brutal. Honestly, oh we've done one as well though. So I'll give myself one. As well. We've done the tiger. Okay. So again, we don't score those points now. But you can keep track right here if you want to. You could also just do that at the end of the game. You know, whatever you want. Okay. So it is our turn again.
All right. We need blue for our masterpiece. But we don't really have any blue going on right now. We could get some white going. Um to get the cranes somewhere. Where would I want those though? I could put those here. Um So I'm covering up that one. Okay. Taking these white ones. I'll put two here. I'm going to put one of them just down here. And we'll see we can maybe make something of the white one. Cuz again, we can just make some of these other paintings as well. They are going to score us at least some points at the end of the game.
Um but obviously we want to try to make as many of these as we can. So let's make the crane birds or whatever they're called. These birds. There we go. So this white one's just going to chill there. Um you if at the end of your turn, you have more than four paint pots, you need to then get rid of them until you have only four. Cuz you're drying out the paint. Um Um, that's not good. You need to paint with your paints. So, you can't keep like uh gathering paints basically. Okay. So, I think yellow we have four. That's the most.
If at any point you have um a tie between colors of the most one, then you're just going to leave it as is. You're not going to change anything and that sometimes is very nice. Um, sometimes it's also just nice to get new colors out. So, the AI taking like a color is not I find it to be okay. It's not annoying to me at all. Sometimes you really want it to refresh. Um, all right. So, he's going to get five points again and a point [snorts] here. Oh, and we also got a point. I keep forgetting to give myself points as well. All right. So, again the blue is not blueing. At least we can take these two. We don't have to swap two if we don't want to. Um, I definitely don't need white. So, let's just take these two, put them here and make our masterpiece.
So, we're going to take the masterpiece. You can only make one of these each. Um but that is stunning and it is 12 points, which is a lot. We're going to just flip it around for now and we're going to draw two new masterpiece cards and we're going to choose one of them. So, hmm. It also depends really on the shape as well because these um, sometimes just won't work with what you have going on. Hmm, this is a tricky one. It would be great to put it right here. I have put the white one there, which doesn't necessarily mean that we cannot do it. Um, so let's maybe choose this one and we'll see we'll see how it goes.
All right. So, let's first refill right here.
[snorts]
White is definitely the most prominent color right now, so we're getting rid of white. Yep. Okay. There we go. Uh he's going to get five points. He's going to get points here. And now we will do some green. Right? That makes the most sense. We can you flip this one like that as well, so we are going to do that. So, let's swap these two. And we're going to take three greens. So, right now what we are allowed to do is I can drop this green here and you are allowed to then replace the color that's underneath.
So, we're going to do that. I'm going to place this green here and then this one we might just put it here. We also want to cover these helmets though, so maybe I go this way. And we try to make something. Ooh, we could maybe try to make the bamboo thing. That could be really cool. We could make it now even actually. And try to get more green later for this. Put it like that. That's pretty pretty crazy. Yeah, let's let's let's not do that right now. But that is really cool. We're going to work on that for sure. We're not going to make any painting right now. Okay, so red is definitely going. Bye, red.
There we go. Five points. There we are. Okay, so let's take these. We're going to make Oh, I put it I mean, you guys know what I want to trying to do. You guys knew. That's That's all good. So, what we can do is actually put this here and make something. Ooh, but you know what I'm going to do? I'm just going to put it here. And we're going to make the moon. We're going to make the moon right there. Which in this instance also counts towards our red goal, which is really nice. Not all of the red goals have the sun and the moon. So, okay, I'm going to make our masterpiece. How wonderful. Let's find it. Oh, that's the wrong stack.
There we go. So, we are going to put this We have just a bunch of birds. And we have just like an animal kingdom here with a palace. That's honestly stunning. So, we're flipping that. We're taking two and we're going to choose another one. Ooh. I do like that shape a lot better.
[gasps]
Ooh. Mhm. Okay, so what I'm going to allow myself to do cuz it is technically still my turn. What I'm going to allow myself to do is change this green paint bot, which I did place Did I place it this turn? No, I placed white. So, we can't do it. It's okay. It's fine. It's all right. I thought I could change it into that painting, which would also count towards this and then this one will perfectly fit like right there. But we can still do that uh later. So, okay. We also really want to make those horses actually. And I want to make the bamboo shoot.
I could try to make the bamboo here. That would work very well. All right. Well, my turn is done.
We don't have all the helmets covered just yet. Wow, that's a lot of green. The green is leaving the area. There we go. All right. There we are. He's going to get five points and points here. Um ooh, there's a lot of blue. I mean, we could use the blue.
But we need there to be green cuz the green needs to go here. And I can't put anything on top. Uh otherwise, you know. So, maybe we do blue and we try to make this. That could work somehow, right? Okay, let's take these three blue ones. And we're just going to put them here on top of the palace. And we're going to make the waterfall. Or the river. It's a river. Um
It says it's allowed to flip it, of course, but then it still doesn't work though. So, I'm confused right now. Maybe that's a little bit of a misprint. Oh, this one is right. So, yeah. So, that one's a little bit of a misprint. That's okay. Um so, we're going to put it like that. And that works towards our goal here as well. So, we've only have one helmet left to cover. Again, I will get to that when we get to it.
All right, we have five reds. I think that's the most. Yep. So, let's get rid of those. Please, I would love some green. Like a whole bunch of green. Like four greens in a row would be so dope right now. Um not possible though, but still that would be amazing. All right, he's going to get five points and he's going to get points here. So, he's going to get his first masterpiece. So, every time he gets to 30 points, the master Master Jen is going to get his own masterpiece. So, I'm just going to put it up there. Um it would have been great if I could have prevented that and covered all helmets before that happened, but what can we do? Can I move this yet?
Yes. Cuz we're at 30, so six turns. Okay. Um all right, so we could get a bunch of white. We could get a bunch of white. I don't really I have the bird, so we don't really need the white. So, we could just take one green, put it here, but that feels like such a waste. Okay. What I'm going to do is I'm going to I am going to take these two red paint pots. Um I'm going to put one here and one here. I am going to choose to replace this green with a cloud token. So, you can do that at any point. Um you have to do it when um you have more than four paints. You need to replace your excess paints with clouds. Clouds score you zero points at the end of the game, um but it is just going to help us a little bit now with what I'm trying to do, hopefully.
Um and we do have all the helmets covered right now, so we are going to the intermediate scoring. So, we we have a mid game scoring and an end game scoring. Um this is not the case in a multiplayer. So, in the multiplayer, you just play until one player has filled their entire player board, and then you go to end game scoring in the um solo mode, or you can play Samurai mode in multiplayer, and then you will also get the intermediate scoring. Um so, we are now going to score a bunch of points, and then we're going to do that again at the end. So, it's a way to actually accumulate more points for you, which is really nice.
Um but it also means that uh Master Jun is going to score additional points. Okay, so let's start with us first. We're going to score our completed master works, which right now is two. So, that would be 24 points for us. Then we're going to score um our red goal, which is at this moment seven points, is that correct? Let's just double-check. We have the tiger, the birds, the moon, and the waterfalls. That's four paintings, so yes, that is seven points. So, that's 31. We are then going to score the white goal. Right now, we only have one moon, uh our moon, but it is in the correct area, so we get three points for that. 34. Um and I'm pretty sure that that is everything that we are scoring right now.
Master Jun is then going to score his masterpiece, which he has one of. So, that's 12 points for Master Jun, and he is going to score his red points, which is 13. Um so, that's 55. Um and he doesn't score the white points. So, now we just continue the game. And as soon as Master Jun reaches 85 points or more, he is going to end the game and we will score our points. Um, we will remove these white ones.
I might make some mistakes. I mean, this is obviously the first time I'm playing this. Um, or it's not the first I have played it before, obviously. Uh, but I'm saying like this is a quite a new game. Um, so I'm hoping I'm doing everything okay. All right. So, he's going to score five points right now and score points here. So, basically, the reason you want to get to intermediate scoring quite quickly is you want Master Jun to not be like at 30 points already cuz he's then going to score that twice. Um, you know, so we don't want that to happen, preferably.
But, it is it is a tricky business. So, I do have to say it's tricky. Um, cuz you also want to have a bunch of uh masterpieces done yourself, so you yourself can score some points, you know? So, it's it's hard, for sure. It's hard. Oh, and he's at 60, so he is going to get his second masterpiece as well. Okay. Now, let's see. We could get red. I think we we're going to do that. We're going to do that. We're going to take these three red ones. I'm going to put them here and here. And then this red is going to be an excess
[snorts]
red, I fear. So, we could turn that into a cloud later. We're going to put it cuz I do want this to be like right there, potentially. Um, or here. So, we're going I'm going this one there, so we can like build on top of it. All right. So, this red one we're going to replace with the birdies, the the cute little red birds. Here they are. Oop. And we're going to do the horses.
Awesome. All right. That's great. That's great. I love that for me. All right. Okay, we have five yellows. Five blues though, so we're tied. So, it stays like that. He gets points and points. All right. So, we would love What would we love? Green first. I would also still love green for the bamboo. So, we just need a whole lot of I also want yellow for the sun. I would love to place out the sun again go right there potentially. Ooh, yeah. And then that okay.
So, we could just get a bunch of yellow right now. But We don't need any more yellow than just the one yellow for the sun. Decisions, decisions. Let's just take these two greens and put them here for the masterpiece. Okay? All [snorts] right.
Okay, we have yellow as the No, still it's still five yellow and five blue. So, it stays like this. Yep. Okay. He's always going to get the 10. He's always going to get to the 30 points, no matter what. He's always going to get there. You cannot prevent him from not going there. Um okay, we're just going to swap these, take the two blues, and we're going to make our masterpiece. Um There we go. Beautiful. Look at that. Beautiful. I think we will just replace this one with clouds, cuz we we're not going to be able to do any Well, I could put something here, and then make one of these paintings.
Um even though it is still going to get us like three points. Yeah, okay. Never mind. Never mind. Never mind. All right. Okay, we have yellows for sure the most now, so that's going to go. Okay. We are almost at the end. Um scary business. Okay, so And this is easy difficulty, by the way, giving him five points every turn. You can up the difficulty, and [snorts] he will get more points every turn, okay? Yeah. It's wild. It's a wild ride, for sure. Um okay, let's see. So, there's a lot of green. Ooh, yes.
Yes. Give me the green. Thank you. We're going to do that there. We're going to make the bamboo. I love that for me. We get some more points. Let's go. There we are. Beautiful. I love it. Stunning. Okay. We need to get some yellow next turn, please. Let's see if we can make it happen. Okay, it's not a lot yellow. Well, the blue Yeah, cuz four red, four white, five blue. Blue's going to go. Okay, give me a bit more yellow. I would love it to be three yellow. It's not going to happen though, but
white. Nope. Uh two yellow then. Okay, two yellow. Um all right, I think that is the best. We could go for three colors and com- fill our board um and not place out the sun cuz we get three additional points if we complete the whole board. Um but I feel like going from three points to seven um is better than the three additional points at the end. So, we're just going to do that. Take the two yellow. I'm going to put one here and one here. This is going to become the sun. And then these two are going to become these flowers. There we go. Beautiful beautiful bed of flowers.
Right there. And that is not the end. I'm so sorry. He's going to go to 80. Um and that's it. So, we have one more turn. I I'm so sorry. We have one more turn. I thought we were done. We're not done. Um let's go. Okay, so you can also try to race. I said like he's always going to get to here. I mean, if you really race him and complete your whole board before he gets there, then you obviously can end the game cuz if you can if your board is full, you can just end the game. But that is hard though. I don't know. That is difficult for sure. Um I don't know if that's you know, how realistic that that is. Oh, we didn't draw a new masterpiece when we completed this one, but obviously we wouldn't have had the space for it anyways.
Um okay, what I'm going to do Wait. Yeah, so we have we are tied with red and white. I'm just going to grab one green. Or do we want a different color? We've done the red one. We haven't done the other single colors like the blue and the green. Maybe the the blue is a little bit more cute. So, let's do the blue. And it's going to go right here. I love this This is one of my favorite tiles. Oops. Cuz it has a little froggy like looking out at the water. I just think that is so adorable. Okay. All right. So, now uh we end the game. Uh he will I still think get his five points. I'm not sure. We're just going to give it to him either way. We're not going to win anyways, so it's fine.
And now we're going to count all of our points. So, let's see. So, you count all your masterpieces again even though we've already scored two of them because of the intermediate scoring rule, we're just going to do all of that again. Again, in the multiplayer you just do end game scoring at the end of the game. You don't do the intermediate one unless you're playing Samurai mode. Okay, so we have now 36 points. Um so, let's see. So, that's 70 points. We then have seven points for our white goal because we have the sun and the moon in the sky next to each other. Then we're going to do our red points. We have seven paintings if we are correct. So, that's 1 2 3 4 Wait. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 We have nine.
I didn't keep very good track of that. So we are at 25. 25, so that's 97 plus five is 103, I think. Then we score points for just our leftover masterpieces. We're not going to score for our three big masterpieces, okay? Only the other ones and we don't score points for the clouds. So this is going to score seven points. So that's 10. These are both two, so that's four. This one is seven again. No, this is a masterpiece, so we don't score it, okay? 1 2 3 4 for our single ones.
I was at 14, so 18. This one's two three points. Yeah, oh these are three points. So this isn't four, this is six. So two more points for those. Seven points for the big horse. So that's 30 and then seven points for the waterfalls is 37. So 137. This is my best score so far, so we're doing pretty well. I did complete the whole painting, so we're doing three bonus points. 140. Okay, let's see what Master John is doing. He completed two masterpieces, so he's going to get 24 points for that. So 100 and nine.
108. Yes, okay. Then he's going to score the red goal, so he has 30 points for that. So 38. Oh my gosh. And that's all he scores. I'm pretty sure cuz he doesn't score the white goal. Oh my god, did we just beat him? There's no way. It's definitely because of all the seven pointers for the big three um for these three. Cuz the the other times I played the solo, I played with this side. Uh which is also easy, but it only has the two piece paintings. So, you get three points for these, and I think that has made the biggest difference for end game scoring.
Um so, yes. This is Keanu. I think this is an absolutely stunning game. I love it. It's so beautifully made. Um the paint pots are so nice just even just like swapping them. I just want to like play around. They feel so nice in like to touch. I love the whole tray. It's so beautifully made as well. I mean, this is just satisfaction for me. Um and I love the whole like making the painting. I'm very excited to play this multiplayer with friends as well. I think they were really going to love it, my friend group. Um it's just stunning. So, I hope you guys enjoyed. Let me know if this is a game that you already knew about and you're interested in or if you're discovering it now alongside me and if you think you would enjoy it. Let me know and I'll see you guys soon with a new video. Bye.
