Some viewers may find the following video disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. Hey everyone, welcome back to Board Games Alton. De and I are doing a discussion over Sky Team Turbulence, which Oh man, Barf. Yeah, this isn't a re retread of a joke. Uh, but this is the expansion to Sky Team and adds in 20 new scenarios and some new modules bringing the total of scenarios. What did I say? 41. Mhm. A little over 40 scenarios, which is really amazing for how little uh for this little game that is just amazing. This is one of the like this is like one of the easiest um like to set up and play two-player games uh that's just so accessible and this expansion just pretty much gave you more of Sky Team. Now it is one of those expansions that if you don't like Sky Team, it's not going to change your mind. Yeah. Which I mean some some expansions do that. They'll be like, "I didn't like this aspect of the game."

It's like, "Oh, but the expansion actually fixes that." It's like, "Oh, cool." Uh, no. This just adds more Sky Team. So, great for people who love it, bad for people who don't. But the models Sky Team [ __ ] Yeah, that ruined my whole day. God. Uh, now Devon and I just got done playing a few scenarios and we immediately went to the hardest ones. Uh, we did actually win the Cape Town one after a few tries. uh kind of came down to the wire, but each of like the hardest ones or the heroic landing ones always seems like that there's a like a there's like a turning point where it's like I don't know if we can do this, but then it's like and right over the edge. Okay, we're we're good, you know? Uh we did the Cape Town one, which was awesome. That added a majority of the modules. And then we did the uh Nazir nice runway that really only had a unique setup from this expansion. Yeah, the brake controls. Yeah. Everything else was from from the the base game, which is really cool. Uh, so the modules that it came with was altitude, which actually I really enjoyed because it gave new like new things to your I don't know your turn your round tracker really. Uh, which was something that I always thought. I mean, granted, all the the planes and the the locations that was plenty to just go off of the the regular um regular out or round tracker, but I

like the new ones. So, we'll just go over all the the different modules and I'll let you know what you think. Those are good. Uh, what do you think of the alt I guess Okay, cool. Actually, I guess that was mainly al Yeah, the altitudes. What do you think of the altitudes with the turbulence and bad visibility? M. Mhm. Mhm. I It certainly added quite a bit more aspect of randomness uh preparation to uh to kind of understand what numbers you're going to be needing and when you need to [ __ ] your pants or when you're going to need a specific number because uh you're not going to get it when you're in turbulence cuz you're re-rolling every single placement. Yeah. I feel like out of all the modules, that's going to be the one that people will dislike the most because I mean at honestly at its core, Sky Team is random. Like how well you succeed uh or how well you do is based off of how well you roll. Um but I really liked it because at least for me, I was taking it as extra rrolls.

If I if my initial roll was bad and I'm like, h I'd need a one, I could kind of stall. I then have to burn a reroll token and hope that you also needed to use it, right? It's just as you're playing one number at a time and you're just having reduced options. So if there's something that needs a specific number, you want to prioritize that in turbulence. So if you really need a specific number somewhere, do that one first or do it as soon as you can in hopes as soon as that comes up for you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, cuz basically the two types is low visibility, which actually only gives you two dice, and then once so you roll both dice, and then once you place one, you take one of your extra your set aside two dice and add that. So you have only two options instead of four with with where you're placing. And then like saying turbulence is where you have all the dice. Once you place one somewhere, you roll all your remaining dice. So yeah, it adds an extra element of of randomness, but I it didn't, for me anyway, it didn't feel like too random. It never felt like, oh, now we have no shot, right? Especially because the Cape Town one that we succeeded on utilized that. So, there were a lot of times where I'm sitting here and I'm like, "Okay, I know I need like a five and I don't have it right now. So, I'm going to go and make coffee because that means I'm going to reroll all my dice and Oh, there we go. There's the five."

So, I like that. It's It's kind of how you how you If you think Sky Team is too random or it's just the right amount of randomness, that might be a module that you won't like. Um, but I personally I liked it and it gives different options just variety upon variety. And the intern was already in the game, correct? Yeah, intern's based game. Was already based game. Okay. I do like the intern mechanic. Yes. Um, it does give you some a mild amount of mitigation. That's true actually. But with a goal associated with the new ability. So it's like, okay, you can have this mitigation effect, but you got to use them all. Yeah. If you don't train them, then you fail. Yeah. And I almost feel like, funny enough, the hardest ones that we had. But we lived, but you didn't try the end time. It was your whole job. No, I think landing. I think surviving was our job. 200 lines, I think, was a priority. Yeah. And I It's funny. I think the hardest ones that we did, Nazir and Cape Town both had the intern because that was our mitigation. It was like, I'm not getting what I want. Oh, look, the intern allows that gives me the number. But I like the jockeying of kind of like cuz like we have to start on our own end, but like I can go all the way to the very end if I want to and I can be the only one training the intern.

So the altitude one was really cool. Uh total thrust was in here which basically has a has a speaker X symbol, meaning that you can't strategize before rolling dice, which I've never done in this game anyway. I don't think I've ever sat here and was like, "Okay, before we roll, here's what we need to do." No, we better like it's just operate in silence. Yeah. So, that's there. But if you do do that, there is Can you make coffee, guys? Yeah. I need you to like please make coffee so we have that. And I need I need you to focus on that so we can Yeah, I've never done that in this game. But if you do have that level of strategy, there's an icon that prevents you from doing that. And then the next big one was the alarms. What do you think of the alarms? Oh, yeah. The alarms, uh, they are, they can be a little obnoxious, but for the most part, I felt like I was getting the numbers I needed to handle them when I needed to.

Yeah. Um, just kind of changes your priorities a little bit. They're there. Uh, I thought it was they were okay. Uh, like I could give or take with them being added. The good thing about the alarms, what my worry was, cuz what the alarms do is they depending if the symbol is showing an alarm, you flip one and it prevents you from doing an action until someone puts the correct color and number to get rid of it. My worry was that they were going to be like, "Oh, you can't turn the plane." You know, I thought they were going to hard stop you on the two mandatory ones, but they didn't touch those. So, no, they don't. It's basically you can't you can't make coffee. you can't do landing gear and you can't communicate. That's literally it. So, they definitely knew what they were doing because if it was like, "Oh, you need a specific number so you can put a die on the engines." It's like then that game would that Yeah, that would just be complete tanking.

Other than that, that was that was really it. Yeah. Tons expansion like Yeah. tons of new scenarios. So, now all your scenarios are they rocked it out with this game. Yeah, I got to say. So, here we go. These are These are all your I've actually never done where you only have like three turns or something. Oh god, it's like really got to slow it down or speed up or something. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's true. That's true. It It definitely feels like I don't know. I I like the color coordination of of the scenarios that you just get get to kind of dictate how hard or how difficult your game is. on top of I mean you could really customize your own like there's really no stop you from being like oh let's add in this let's add in the kerosene but you have so many scenarios there's only so many you could add though it depends how dice hungry they're going to be cuz yeah I definitely see okay you got the alarms and then like if you did that and the kerosene that's like two things eating up your dice so you can only do so many honestly yeah that is true they they really they nailed it like because whenever we first did the Nir Nazir Nazir ice it was like so many things it was okay so there's a new cuz nazir turns the wind turbulence upside down so you start negative uh on your on your engine then you have the ice breaks then you have the kerosene and you have the intern and I was like that's that feels like way too many things cuz you really

only have two free dice to do extra actions but nope I think we got about halfway way on that one. Uh was feeling pretty good. Mhm. But yeah, they somehow they're they don't overload you where it's like do you have to be the most efficient possible? We have to get the exact number of diet the you know the value every single time. It's great. Like this expansion I think is an awesome addition. Do I think it's necessary like oh you have to go out and get the turbulence expansion only. I'd only say if Sky Team is your only game, you play it daily or something and you have worn out the game. I mean, it doesn't seem that expensive given its packaging. Oh god, no. No, it's very I think it was like 15 or 20 bucks. Yeah.

To get. Um I mean, but I'm just saying like is it one of those expansions that it revolutionizes the game? No. I mean, no. But yeah, cuz I mean the base game already had so many scenarios that you you had a lot of content in the base game. And I still remember whenever we were at Gen Con and we're like like it's like oh this the line for Sky Teams over there. It's like I don't give a [ __ ] about Sky Team that long for Sky Team Planes. What are they virgins? Like yeah okay losers like oh this game's really good. I know. And then I saw it at a game store and I was like but hey, guess what? We didn't have to wait 3 hours to get That's true. That's true. I went to a local game store and and picked it up. Yeah. And moved on with my life.

So, which is great that it's readily uh available because so many games like this are like super hard to get. It's like, oh, everyone's writing about it and then you're like searching for it. Then it's like, yeah, I'll sell you for $400. I'm a piece of [ __ ] So, yeah, that's pretty much it. Yeah. Like, good stuff. Good game. Yeah. Uh, what would you give the expansion? Let's scale one to 10. The uh uh for the new systems, I mean, solid. Solid. I mean, the game itself is amazing. It is. I don't remember. Did we do a rating on the core game before? Did they do it? I did not do Who did I do the initial review with? I don't remember. I think I have an initial review of Sky Team Out. Yeah. I mean, this is solid either maybe nine or 10 for me. Yeah. Four. Uh, but I mean for the expansion, for the few bucks, I mean, yeah, it's great. You already got the game. Buy it. I mean, yeah, I have it at a nine. Yeah, the original Sky Team. I mean, I mean, if you have a few bucks, extra things, you Yeah. More scenarios. Hey, if you want more Sky Team, you know, solid nine, you know, I mean, I'm not like blasting my world apart, but it's good. Sky Team's a great game. You want more Sky Team, here you go. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, I'm giving turbulence a nine as well. It And it's nice because it doesn't overload you with stuff. It's not like here's a million new modules, here's a semi-ooperative variant, and then halfway through it becomes regular Sky

Team. It's nothing weird. It's just ah here's a little packaging. And by the way, we planted a tree. So good on you, Scorpion Mask. Uh so yeah, go out and get it if you love Sky Team.
