Description

What's that delicious smell?!?!

The humans are having a Sausage Sizzle and it’s drawing a crowd of hungry Aussie critters! One by one, a Quokka, Crocodile, Platypus, Echidna, Snake, and Kangaroo will try to sneak food away from the barbie. Making off with any food is good, but those sausages sure look the tastiest!

The game is played over six rounds, with players taking turns in clockwise order. On your turn, your goal is to roll and re-roll dice to get many of the same Critter together with high values on the Food dice.

You can choose any Critter you wish for scoring but beware! You can only score one Critter each round, and each Critter can only be scored ONCE during the entire game.

But what about the Sausages?!?

Normally a Sausage on the Food dice counts as a 1, but if you manage to lock in all four of your Food dice showing Sausages, the value of a Sausage jumps up to 7 that round!

What is a Sausage Sizzle?

A traditional Aussie Sausage Sizzle consists of a beef sausage (a “snag”), in a slice of white bread, with grilled onions and sauce, usually tomato or BBQ. It has become an icon of Aussie outdoor living and a mainstay at community events.

  • Bright, stylized artwork
  • Simple, accessible rules
  • Self-contained and portable for travel

Cons
  • No player interaction beyond scoring; multiplayer solitaire
  • Push-your-luck mechanics can lead to zero scores in some paths
  • Some sessions may feel limited or repetitive
  • Final-round risk requiring specific animal (kangaroo) to avoid zero score
Thematic elements

  • Backyard barbecue with animals attempting to collect as much food as possible
  • Mechanical, light thematic integration
Comparison games

Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Animal selection with multipliers — Choose an animal die; the number of animals rolled acts as a multiplier for the score.
  • Compound Scoring — Flip over animal tokens to indicate used options and track available choices.
  • Dice locking and re-rolling — Lock at least one die each turn, then may re-roll remaining dice multiple times.
  • End condition: six animals — Six animal dice must be used; if any are not used by final round, score can be zero for that category.
  • Food dice multipliers — Use food dice as additional multipliers; the lowest food result multiplies with the animal multiplier.
  • Push-your-luck dice rolling — Roll dice and lock in at least one result per turn; keep rolling to maximize outcomes while risking a poor final result.
  • Re-rolling and Locking — Lock at least one die each turn, then may re-roll remaining dice multiple times.
  • Sausage tokens and scoring — Sausages on the food dice provide special scoring; if all food dice show sausages, score multiplied by seven.
  • Token-based score tracking — Flip over animal tokens to indicate used options and track available choices.
