Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Campaign play — A series of quests played back-to-back, divided into Act One and Act Two. The game comes with a notepad to track progress during breaks. Setup is the same as standard play, starting with the first quest. Hero and class choices are fixed for the campaign. The same player remains the overlord. After each quest, there's a campaign phase for characters to reset wounds/fatigue/conditions. Overlord shuffles draw/discard piles. Heroes and overlord gain one experience point and other rewards. Heroes spend XP on class skills, saving or spending as desired. Overlord spends XP to improve their deck by purchasing cards from categories like Sabur, Warlord, Magus, and Universal, with costs increasing by level. Overlord can remove cards from their deck for a quest, as long as 15 remain. Heroes total gold from search cards and awarded gold for shopping. Search cards are shuffled back. Shopping is collaborative. Shop decks (Act One/Act Two) are used. One card is dealt per hero plus an additional card for items available to buy. Purchased items are given to agreed-upon heroes. Previously purchased items can be sold back at half value, even starting equipment. Unpurchased items return to the deck. Heroes can exchange equipment except starting equipment.
  • Familiars — Special characters controlled by hero classes like The Necromancer, represented by a token on the map. Can be activated for a move action separate from the hero's actions. Treat all special terrain as water, cannot pass through obstacles. Can be activated even if the hero is knocked out, but a standup action ends the hero's turn immediately. May perform other actions if specified on its card, like an attack. A space with a familiar does not block line of sight or movement. Figures can end their turn on the same space. Cannot be targeted or affected by attacks unless the familiar's card says otherwise. Some familiars (like the Reanimate) are treated as figures, taking up space, blocking line of sight/movement, can be targeted, treat special terrain like heroes, take damage instead of fatigue, and automatically fail attribute tests.
  • Travel Events — On the map between quests, heroes travel to a chosen quest location. Before traveling, the overlord draws an opening hand (one card per hero). Heroes must stop at and encounter icons shown on the map. The overlord shuffles and draws a card from the travel event deck, looking for a matching symbol. Events can result in no event or specific occurrences that may require hero tests or grant the overlord advantages.

Quotes (from this video)
  • hi everyone welcome to watch it played
  • my name is Rodney Smith and no this is not the beginning of a series for Imperial assault but if you've watched our Series in the past you may have heard me talk about Peninsula painting Services which is run by Cole Fisher longtime viewer of the series and friend of mine
  • we first featured his work when we did our playthrough of spacehulk and then later he painted all the Miniatures that we used in our descent video series as well and that got a very nice recep since that time he's now done commissions on I believe he's currently on his 28th base set of descent so big thanks from him to you guys for supporting his work something I'm also very happy to do
  • for something like Imperial assault it's not really possible to give an exact quote on the cost as most commissions will want to tweak the paint job at someway which either reduces or increases the charge but the level of detail would be equivalent to what your you're seeing here
  • and then you have options to add additional elements for example you might request to have the original Sabers replaced with plastic rods as you see on these models which is a really cool touch I have to say
  • but to make things a little quicker for him I left the bases as they are and instead he marked the duplicates with numbers and with different colored bases to Aid in the gam playay
  • I probably don't have to say too much more I imagine the work best speaks for itself but if you like the idea of having your Miniatures painted and you just don't have the talent or maybe the time then I think you'll be thrilled with these results I know that I was so in the description of this video you will find the email address you can reach Cole and talk to him about Imperial assault or any other game that you might imagine I know I just saw recently pictures he's painted of Arcadia Quest and that looks phenomenal as well but until the next episode thanks for watching
