Quotes (from this video)
  • I like this game a lot. I like how fast it is.
  • This is a great card. Yeah, get this card if you're going to play Earth Express. Try to win it for sure.
  • This game is Slide puzzle.
  • It's hand management. It's set collection.
  • It's really a visual puzzle, like how many of these things can I match? How many of these things can I stack?
  • This one's way more thinky than the quick Earth Express.

Quotes (from this video)
  • There's the thumbnail right All right.
  • What's up, everybody? I'm Mike.
  • I'm Nick.
  • We're the Brothers Murph and it's time to go to the game house for some behind the lens.
  • It's from Inside Up Games. We are take photos. They are sponsoring this playthrough.
  • Uh so yes, this is a game where we are um photographing nature, uh beautiful plants, landscapes, uh animals, and stuff.
  • This is uh using the same uh photography and stuff from the game Earth also by Inside Up games.
  • In Behind the Lens, players are aspiring photographers getting out in the nature and capturing the beautiful flora and fauna in front of their cameras.
  • To get the shots you need, you'll have to get your camera settings lined up just right.
  • The game is played over three rounds known as months with each round having four turns representing weeks of your photography adventures.
  • Each round, players will start with five action cards each choosing one to play while the rest will get passed to their neighbor.
  • This game can be played simultaneously and you'll be taking actions to manipulate your camera and take various actions.
  • Each action card you draft will give you a tile matching a camera setting type, potentially some batteries, and a special action.
  • As you push tiles through your settings it will create different icons lined up into columns.
  • This is how you will take your photos.
  • Each photo you're working on has specific parameters you must meet.
  • So you must create a column in your camera that matches all these settings in the correct order to take a picture.
  • There are auto focus tiles in your camera you can use that act as wilds but they are flipped over when used and can't be used again unless refreshed.
  • Each action card you draft will have special actions you can use one time each and you can use them either on the turn you draft them or a future turn.
  • These will allow you to take photos with settings out of order, remove and rearrange rows and columns on your camera, cycle your subject and claim rows and more.
  • Once you've taken all actions you wish to you will take your hand tile and place it into your journal.
  • Tiles showing settings will be added to their row and make photos that use those settings more valuable.
  • For each photo you take you will score claim points.
  • To calculate this look at each setting for your photo and refer to your journal to see that setting's value.
  • At the bottom of each column is an acclaim bonus so you will add this to your score as well.
  • Now your newly shot photo can come into your portfolio where its various features can be used for awards and assignments.
  • Players can earn award cards which give goals to try to achieve for end game scoring and players will try to efficiently take photos to get as many taken
  • After 3 months the game comes to an end and players score these awards and after scoring the player with the highest score wins.
  • Alrighty folks, we are ready to take some pictures.
  • Click click. We got a lot of cameras in this room right now so we understand some of you
  • We have a camera doing anything like that one. I'll tell you our cameras, you know, they they look like these. They they got the settings on all the things.
  • Show them all right now Nick.
  • Yeah. It's going to be we're going to be great. I think that's going to really make it so that we are uh going to crush this.
  • Um so we are going to start this is quickly go over our public objectives and and awards and things.
  • So these ones are here going to be a race of course. So if you have two action cards with underlying text Mhm. uh the end of any round any week uh any turn I should say not round turn.
  • Um if you have that you can claim it and get the claim for the claim it uh for yourself.
  • If you have two photos that ISO 3200 in your portfolio so they've they've been completed they're over here.
  • Um you can claim those. We have these public awards we have our private ones as well.
  • So earn Seeing what ISO we're at currently.
  • 800 right now. We're at 800 ISO we're at right now. Sorry. quarter of the way there.
  • you know. Uh so we can earn a claim based on types of settings that are missing from our camera at the end of the game.
  • So again we have two of each type to begin two aperture two timers two flash. So for everything that you're completely missing cuz these are going to be getting cycled out and stuff like that uh you can get points.
  • Question about that. Does autofocus count towards that?
  • No it's just other ones.
  • Just the main one okay. Uh and then what's that bottom one?
  • with autofocus. Yeah yeah yeah yeah so you can Uh night owl earn claim based on the number of nighttime uh I think that's a nighttime icon.
  • The yellow subject is what it is. Oh yeah, the yellow subject in your portfolio. Yeah night shots. Night shoot. Yeah.
  • I wasn't sure if there was like beep like uh cuz there are a lot of tags on these cards. There's lots of things to look at um so I wasn't sure if Specifically the yellow subject. Yeah yellow subject. So maybe maybe we want to be going for those. Um and we can all score these to the best of our ability.
  • They're not we're not denying each other and of course we start with one uh private one you can do it now.
  • We can all do it to the best of our ability. It might not be a high level ability but it will be the best of your ability.
  • are two different things. Um okay so I think we have everything ready. Again, we're going to be drafting choosing one of these cards and this is all simultaneous in nature, but we'll kind of abstract it out a little bit so that it's clear for you who's doing what and everything like that, but just note that when you're playing everyone can be doing their stuff at the same time if you trust the people at your table to be doing it accurately that is.
  • Um So I'm going to place this over here. Uh, so I'll just start with me. This is the card I drafted here. So this is going to give me an aperture tile and three charges on my camera.
  • interesting. So I think I'm going to use a charge real quick and I'm just going to scoot that this way. So now this is the tile in my hand.
  • Uh, and then I'm going to use another charge and I'm going to scoot this.
  • The reason I'm doing this just to be fully transparent is I have a blue subject and then I have the need for a timer, some zoom, and aperture. So now I have this lined up which is interesting cuz I don't really want to mess that up then I guess.
  • And un you know, line things up. This right here allows me to swap the tile in my hand, boom, with a setting in my camera if I want to use that. I don't know that I Actually I do. I'm going to do this. I'm going to swap this with this. So this is a hot swap. Hot swap.
  • Bam, and that is now used and can go down here. I'm going to stop there though. That's what I'm doing.
  • Okay. And again, this could all be simultaneous. Yes, we're going to play kind of piecemeal here, but you could be doing this all simultaneously. And I'll wang it. So I will get a shutter an aperture. Aperture. Aperture picture picture Um and then I will get two battery.
  • So I will So this cost me a battery to slide this in? Or is that cost you your battery to It's a push. Do a push. Do the push. Uh I will spend one battery and the push.
  • Uh this comes to my hand. Uh, and then I will push this. And I will push. Ooh, and I have this in my hand. Um and then when does this happen? Right now? It's whenever you want to use it. You can hang on to it or you can use it now or later. Right now. So I'm going to cycle mine right away, but you don't have to.
  • So again, you can cycle two, which is how you can adjust those uh top and bottom the subject and the claim. Otherwise, you can't do a push action for those cuz That is that for that and then I will pop it up with this. Score it.
  • All right, so at the end of the game you'll score that, but for now you have that uh to use if you want later. Uh Nick, what you got going on? Okay, I think I'm going to do uh this card here. So it's going to give me an aperture.
  • We're we're all the aperture boys here. I know, right? I need I need specific stuff. Okay. So this ability is I can remove up to five tiles from a single row in my camera, so any of the rows and then basically rearrange them and put them back where I want. So I am trying to figure it out. Okay, so I think I'm going to do this top row.
  • And I know I need this one to be here. Um Oof. So many different things. Um and I think I'm going to do these ones, but I'll leave the other ones where they were. So boom. Put this here. Cool. Okay, so that's that. And then I have this. I do have a battery and I think I want to push. So I'm going to go here. I'm going to push this one like that.
  • All right. Okay. So then you can journal our findings. So Jimmy and I already did this. Basically, whatever tile you lift left or left over with will go either into your settings area or if it's an auto focus down here. Whoop. Um which will increase the value of those settings. So now we can take any pictures that we have lined up correctly. So I've lined up this one. So my little blue subject, I need a timer, zoom, and aperture. I have all of those. Uh so I'll bring this over here. And look at my the values of my thing. So my timer is just one point. My zoom is also a point, but my aperture is two points. So it's going to be a one, two, and four. And then again, you look at the column in the bottom, whatever that acclaim value is, in my case one, so I'll get five points for my picture. A little five-point picture never hurt nobody, and that's now in my uh portfolio for any end-game scoring purposes.
  • Or puses. Or puses. Well, we're going for porpoises to penguins, but Cuz I have completed this photo. Boom. I got my purple guy. I got ISO. I got my aperture. I got time, and I got three points. So that means I'm going to score one, two, three, six. Nice. On that.
  • And I hit me a little All right. I finished this beautiful picture of a uh pangolin here. I think that's a pangolin. It's a flower, I get it. Um jokes by Nick Meriwether today. Um so I I need the uh green, and then I need ISO, the flash, and then the zoom, and it's going to be two down here. So it's going to be one, one, cuz those are both one. This one is two, so it'll be one, one, two, three, four, five, six for Nicky boy. Cuz I was just taking bad pictures of me. Like, what the heck? You did.
  • All right. Um so we are at the end of the week, aka first turn. I don't think any of us have gotten these done yet. We're we're just going to pass our cards and we're going to be uh going again. If you have less than two pictures in your viewfinder, which is to say you still you will get to fill back up to two. Ooh, the northern lights. The northern lightning bolts. Whoa, that's crazy, man. Um okay, so okay, so what do I need for these? So many things. I'm so scared. So many things.
  • I'm so scared. All right. You should be. I shot my head, rib me.
  • Sorry about that. Sorry about that. Excuse me.
  • Interesting. It seems to me as you push things out, although one of our goals is to have stuff not in here, but I'm like, I have three apertures in here now and one less uh zoom, which is interesting.
  • Boop. Yeah, that is Easy. ready. And again, normally at this point you could be doing this all something. You could take away something. Oh, I guess it's complete. We have to wait for turns. I'll go ahead and do mine. So, I'm going to get a flash and three batteries. Trying to think if I'm going to be able to get one of these done. I don't know. That could upgrade. I'll hold on my upgrade cuz I don't have to do this right now. Uh and I basically want to upgrade something that I'm going to score next. Okay, so let me see if I can get these in place. This one I'll tell you right now is going to be very difficult to get into place. So, I think I'm going to work on this one here. So, I it's a nighttime shoot. I need the ISO one over. So, I'm going to go boop. Take out this. Now, I need a zoom here, but I can't get a zoom until I get a new zoom tile or I get like a swappy poo. So, I'm going to have this go push. And then how I'm going to go push, take out this ISO. So, now I'm going to be ready to take this picture because I can use this wild here. All right, that's my turn. I'm going to ooh, what's this upgrade? Oh, you know, I'll go and use this upgrade now. They're all plus two points. That's right. It's all great. Okay, let's come and dish one to a fiver. Boom, elite. Who next? What are you waiting for? I will take a focus. Do. Thank you. Uh and then I get three battery. Uh I will with my first focus uh I'll spend a battery to do blurp. You got to blurp it sometimes. Sometimes you got to You got to blurp that battery. Actually, you know what? I'm going to blurp this. Different blurp. Different blurp. It takes different blurps. It takes Same blurp time, same blurp channel. for my next blurp I'm already in my brain. Blurp, blurp, blurp. Then I will blurp. Blurp, blurp, blurp. Blurp, blurp, blurp. Blurp, blurp, blurp. So, I got this. It's a blurp of the blurper. Did you just break? Uh and then for my last blurp I'll blurp a skirt. Mhm. We blurp a skirt. ISO. Nice. My key. All right. I'll do this actually. I'm going to upgrade this. Flip it. It's a It's five now. Nice, nice, nice, nice, nice. Good call. Uh all right, I'm got a timer and some battery. I'm going to use a battery to push that there. Cuz I guess my settings lined up for this picture, although the subject is not correct yet. I think I'm just going to leave it there. I'm going to save my card for the future. I'm going to save some battery and I'm going to increase that with my general and Yeah, you don't have to take a picture every time. Sometimes you got to wait, you know. So I'm going to get a feeling That's what Adams did sometimes wait. 18 minutes. Yeah. All right. Good for me. Any pictures? Any pictures going? I'm going to pick a picture. Yeah, I'm going to take this one of the northern lights right here. So it's a night time scene. My ISOs were at correct space. I am going to have to use this one. These are one time use, right Maggie? Yep. Well, there are some cards that can light up. From the back, yeah. And then my timer here and get five. So, I'm going to get two cuz my ISO is at two. This will be none, even though this is a zoom. I would love to get that extra two points, but I can't. So this will be two, three, eight. You know what? Actually, cuz I can do this cuz this is an unused auto I'm going to flip this to cycle one. Ooh, nice. Now I can take a photo. Okay. So I can take a photo of this lightning. Um, and so I have All right. So it's going to be one, a two, a three, a five. So it's going to be eight points plus 14 as well. And I'm just chilling on my five. Chilling on my five. Those are expensive you see. So I don't be taking a lot of pictures. I just I just I like to think about it. I like to give it a think. All right. All righty. Passing on. I don't think so. All righty, let's see. Oh, I need a new photo. Uh Jimmy, you need a photo, too. I do. Ooh, waterfall. It is going to be some flowers. Wait, am I looking at a little bit Yeah, I'm looking at a little bit. Wait, wait, wait. Crazy. Um So what do I need now? Ooh, where we I need none of those, but but also none of these. All right. I think I'm going to um I think I'm going to Ooh. Choices. I can go a few more. Yeah, go for it. I'm still trying to figure out So I'm going to take a flash. Oh. Answer the universe. I get two battery juice. Two juice. Give me the juice. Um So I can remove up to three setting tiles in a single column for my camera, so any of the rows and then basically rearrange them and put them back where I want. So I am trying to figure it out. Okay, so I think I'm going to do this top row. And I know I need this one to be here. Um Oof. So many different things. • So, it's going to be uh four points for my aperture. two points for my ISO so six and then another four points for my flash so 10 and then 11.
  • This one allows me to swap the tile in my hand with the setting in the supply.
  • So, my ISO is going to be worth four. My aperture's only worth one, so that's me five. Another four is going to be nine, and then only one is going to be 10.
  • So, my timers are either four, so we have four, eight, nine, and then 14.
  • So, my flash is worth two. My ISOs are worth four. So, that's two six Uh and then this is also worth four, which is going to be uh 10.
  • So, my zoom is worth uh four, my flash is worth six, that's 10, my aperture is worth four, so that's 14 and three is 17.
  • So, my apertures are worth two, so that's going to be two. My flash is worth four, so that's going to be two and four is six. My uh timer's worth one, so that's seven. eight and nine.
  • Behind the Lens. You do this You do this though? Yep. You do this? Because you got to rack, focus, and zoom at the same time. And that's how you make cinema.
  • And all in all, big big shout out to Inside Up Games for sponsoring this one again. Make sure to follow Behind the Lens down the description below. Check out that campaign. Get you some of that. Let them know the Bros were sent you.

Quotes (from this video)
  • These are not expansions to Earth. These are very different games than Earth, but at least Earth Express is going to give you a lot of Earth vibes.
  • Behind the Lens is the heavier of the two games, for sure.
  • So, the long story short, this is a lot like Earth. It's going to push a lot of the same buttons.
  • Behind the Lens is all about taking photographs.
  • This is very much at its heart a puzzle game.
  • this is probably the most cutthroat representation of wildlife photography that may have existed.
  • But this one, I'm telling you, can be over in less than half an hour.
  • I would never play Earth with eight players.

  • Action Point Allowance — Battery can be spent to manipulate the grid, and actions on cards can be used for various effects. Players draft action cards which determine actions they can take.
  • card drafting — Players draft one action card each week, which defines which tile they take and provides actions. The drafting is described as enjoyable without being amazing, but the choices matter, especially for vying for goals.
  • set collection — Players collect photo attributes and place them into their journal, which can increase scoring or provide abilities. There are also goal cards that require specific attributes to be collected.
  • tile manipulation — Players manipulate tiles on their grid to align settings for photos. This involves spending battery or using actions from cards to move and swap tiles.
  • Variable player powers — The bottom part of action cards can be saved for future turns, offering strategic flexibility. Additionally, certain tiles in the journal can give abilities.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Overall, I'm going to give it a 3.5 out of 5. A lot of things I liked but also some things that felt a little more work than the reward.
  • The goals are almost nitpicky. Get ISO 800, get the TV attribute, get three of these, get four of those.
