Transcript
welcome to the jungkook's games update vlog for october 2020. as you can see i'll be covering a few different things today and i would like to point out that if you'd prefer to listen to this vlog instead of watch it then you can do so by searching for the jungkook's games podcast wherever you normally listen to podcasts now i would like to ask that if you end up enjoying this video that you please click the like button for down below as well as the subscribe button for the channel now at this point i'll start the vlog off and we can begin with general updates for the channel and the first of these is a patreon campaign update now i always start off with these and this is a big one because there was a whopping 26 new people who joined into the campaign over the last month now that has put the campaign up to its highest level ever which is really awesome considering last month the overall campaign support amount went down so that has been fully uh matched and exceeded which is really great to see and um that's kind of surprising honestly considering there was quite a few people who did uh remove their support over the last month as well so this surge uh went up and over all of the removals from the previous month and this month um now once again i totally understand people not supporting the channel like that's totally fine there's lots of different reasons for that but still i really appreciate all of the new people who are supporting the channel and i would like to briefly mention again that if you would like to directly support things monetarily i would really appreciate that and you can learn more about that at patreon.comgames now let's move on to a more general update for the channel and that actually has to do with the upcoming schedule now i'm going to talk about that in detail later on but i did want to mention here
that october is looking pretty crazy at this point i'm planning on putting out tutorials for 12 different games in this month now that is just something that's unheard of i haven't covered that many games in a month ever in fact a uh a busy month for me before i made all of my changes was covering six different games so i kind of see october as being a test of my new style um i did say that by just making tutorials and not full playthroughs i should be able to cover more games and that hasn't really been the case so far i think that september had more games than normal um maybe not august so much but you know i'm gearing things up into a new style so october seems to be really when um this is going to be tested uh am i actually able to get all of that done i think i am i'm not too stressed at this point i am a little bit stressed but that's just because this is unknown waters for me but i am um so far in a position where i think i'll be able to pull all of it off and i'm pretty excited to be able to showcase that many different games um so i'll again talk about the details of this coming up but i just wanted to reiterate that this was one of the reasons i made a big change and it seems like that is finally coming to fruition now at this point november is looking pretty busy but not as crazy as october and it's entirely possible that october looks like this because this is normally when the essen show would be so obviously board game publishers are geared up to push out new products in october so i'm even more curious to see what november and december are like
and all of the future months because i really can't take october as a case study for all months it's a special month in the board game calendar now we can move on to the other update that i'll talk about and um i promise this isn't going to be a recurring theme but i'm going to very briefly talk about where i am i know i've done this a little bit over the last couple months and last month was a very honest discussion about some of the problems that i had been having i was still pretty vague but there was a tremendous outpouring of support um here in the comments section uh through geekmail on boardgamegeek as well as emails and facebook people reached out to me on facebook um it was just really great to see i wasn't asking for attention it might i kind of felt like oh man was i like seeming like i was just trying to get attention from people and that really wasn't my goal but i did get a lot of attention and um it's really appreciated um i think there are a bunch of reasons for why i've been having problems but i am happy to say that i think there are a bunch of reasons now why things seem to be getting a little bit better uh many people mentioned that maybe i should seek support from healthcare professionals and i actually have done that i've reached out through my healthcare network and um something is kind of happening in the background over there but also just the conversations that i've had with people in lots of different areas as well as personally in my life and my close group of friends have been um really good um i think there are a lot of reasons uh for why things seem to be getting a
little bit better um one of them might be the fact that you know i made this big change and so maybe that is helping things um that's from a john gets games perspective another might be the fact that i did finish a two-month class and it was pretty stressful overall and i've now it's now been a couple weeks since then i think another factor might be that i took a full week off in september uh kind of unexpectedly it was a last minute thing where uh we ended up renting an rv and we drove down and had a camping trip where i got to see much of my side of the family they rented rvs and drove up so we all got to socially distance but um hang out and i got to see the nephews and it was a really great time to just kind of decompress and pull away from the world that's why you might have noticed there was a whole week where i didn't publish anything and that's because i was essentially off the grid now another reason why i am feeling good it might just be that i'm on an uptrend and it might go back down again um i'm really not sure how that's going to be but i'm trying to once again be very vigilant about where i am and how i can potentially keep my spirits up overall and i just have this amazing support network around me so thank you to everyone who reached out um and just thank you to everyone who supported it in all of the different ways it's really appreciated and again i'll try not to make this a long uh uh recurring theme but um so far september was great and i'm actually looking forward to october um i feel somewhat rejuvenated with um work with jungkook's games and the stuff that i'm doing and i'm looking forward to starting work each day or at least i have for the last week or two which
is not something that has been the case for the previous few months so hopefully this keeps going i can't make any promises but so far so good so let's now move on to the next segment which is the shifting shelf now this is where i discuss all of the new games that i've acquired over the last month as well as some games that i've removed from my collection i'm going to start with the games that were removed and it is three the first of these is the lockup now this is a game i did a sponsored full playthrough for last year it's a work replacement game where you are essentially in control of gangs of prisoners in a fantasy dungeon and had this really neat bluffing work replacement style of mechanic and i thought the game was fine overall but it's just not seeing play so i don't think it really makes sense to keep it around when it's a medium-sized box and i think other people could certainly enjoy this game more than it is being enjoyed here on my shelf the other two games that i removed are pretty small sometimes it's easy not to cull small games because they don't take up much space on the shelf but i have to be honest with myself with these games and i just don't think i am excited to play them anymore and so the next one is packed i discussed that one in an impressions vlog i think about a year ago or so it's a somewhat simple yet complicated card game where you're doing set collection and um there's some kind of euro mechanics where there's an advanced variant and i thought it was fine overall but i just didn't find myself drawn back to playing it and the same can be said about rolled west um that one is a roll and right game and i do
generally like those it's a good distillation of the game uh gold west overall but i actually played gold west after i played world west and i just found that i would much rather play the original game the original game is not that much not that long overall it's definitely longer than the role in my game and there are just so many other role and write games i'd rather play i just don't see myself coming back to world west now i did receive three games in fact they all arrived in the past like four or five days uh just after i put out my poll for the patreon sponsor tutorials for the month so you won't see any of these in the next month but maybe in the month following the first of these is curious cargo which is a two-player medium weight euro game that pulls off some of the ideas of pipeline which was a heavyweight euro game and puts it into a dual perspective i'm really excited to try that one out next up was rolling america now i actually picked this one up for one dollar at a garage sale i happened to go to a garage sale last weekend and i was not expecting to buy a board game but i saw a big pile of games they had like pie face and scrabble and a bunch of puzzles and whatnot and then there was rolling america sitting right on the top now i played rolling japan which uses most of the same mechanics several years ago in fact i covered my impressions of it i think in a vlog a few years ago and i really liked it so i asked how much they wanted for it they said one dollar and that was the easiest decision i made that day so i now own that game and it is a roll and right game with very simple rule set with kind of some puzzly rules and it can be somewhat punishing and i do remember liking it so
i'm glad i have a copy of a rolling style game anyway the last game that i received is the red cathedral this is going to be one of the sponsored tutorials that i put out in october normally i don't talk about those as a new game that i receive but this appears to be a production copy of it so i think it counts that one is a medium weight euro that i haven't really gone into the rules of too much yet but i will soon because i am putting out a video for that one in a few weeks now speaking of that let's now talk about the upcoming schedule and again it's pretty dense now uh in this week which is currently week 40 i'm going to be putting out uh a tutorial for beyond the sun um i just finished that one up in fact it's right here just off camera as you can see it's hiding um that one's going to be coming out uh later on this week as well as an impressions vlog where i'm going to be covering uh three games now i recorded this one a week ago i know i'm covering paladins of the west kingdom i talk about pictures as well actually it's four games i talk about indigo as well as castel yeah those are the four uh so that one should be coming out later on this week probably this coming saturday now in week 41 i have a sponsored tutorial of cartographers heroes coming out that video is essentially done i just have to put a bow on it essentially that's a standalone uh expansion to the game cartographers uh that week i also have a thailand game called dungeon decorators where you're trying to build out the best dungeon to get the most points so that evil bosses and people kind of come in and occupy your dungeon that one is completely done and that one
is ready to be going up in week 41 and i will also be putting out the bonus video for this month from the patreon contributing producer level supporters it looks like that's going to be fair on which is a medium weight euro game that came out um about a year ago or so um i'm not sure the voting isn't done yet but currently that one's winning moving on to week 42 uh it appears that nidovaliere is one of the games that is winning for a patreon supported tutorial um i do two of those a month and um nidovalier certainly seems to be right there i covered my impressions of that one a couple of months ago it has a set collection mechanic along with a really neat kind of bidding mechanic to get the set collection cards definitely check out my impressions and soon there will be a tutorial of that one going up that week i am supposed to be putting out a tutorial for a very tiny game called hot potato that one is confirmed hasn't actually arrived just yet so i'm hoping that one does launch in that week and then i am also planning on putting out a video for veiled fate um that one has arrived but i haven't delved into the rules for that one just yet uh moving on we have week 43 where i will be putting out a video for brick and mortar um i actually completed this one like a month ago i got really ahead for this video and it is a game all about supply and demand trying to you know out supply and demand your opponents it's got a lot of those kind of mechanics where you are trying to influence the actual supply and demand as you build out various stores and then stock them with various things that you're trying to outsell from your opponents
i am also planning on putting out a tutorial for freedom 5 which is a cooperative game that i believe uses the mechanics of defenders of the realm but it's set in the sentinels of the multiverse thematic realm again haven't really delved into the rules of that one yet but it did arrive i've got a prototype sitting over there and it's not a small box um i will also be putting out a video for the red cathedral which i briefly talked about before getting a production copy of that in week 44 which is near the end of october i am planning on putting out a tutorial for vi counts of the west kingdom now i haven't received my copy just yet but i'm supposed to receive that one soon so this one might end up getting bumped into november potentially but that would likely only be if i didn't actually get the copy in time and then also that week i'm putting out a tutorial for castello methony which it looks to be the other patreon supported uh tutorial looks like that one and nintendo are winning now i'm actually covering so many games that i missed one going back to week 41 i am also planning on doing my live q a uh so that means that's going to be a four video week this week that i'm in right now is also going to be a four video week normally i only do a max of three but in order to get everything done in this month that is going to be two for video weeks um now the live q a is going to happen on the 8th of october that will be at 11 a.m pacific daylight time uh so definitely come around and uh hang out for that it's usually about an hour long and i intend to put out an edited version of that um a day or so following so that would
essentially be the fourth video where i guess five videos that week if you want to count it that way so yeah october is looking pretty crazy and uh i'm looking forward to getting all of this stuff done now that's going to bring me to the end of this update vlog it's i think going to be a little bit quicker than normal um overall things are doing well and i i'm looking forward to doing another one of these in november where i can hopefully state that um october went great and i got all of these obligations done but i won't really know until i actually make it happen so hopefully i do pull it off all right that's going to bring this vlog to a close as always i'd like to thank everyone who's been supporting this channel including these producer-level patreon supporters if you would like to directly support the channel and the creation of future videos like this one then please go to johngetsgames.com support also if you enjoyed this video please click the like button for it down below as well as the subscribe button for the channel thanks for watching
