Marvel Champions: Quicksilver - Discussion

0:10 viewer discretion is advised hey everyone welcome back to board games unlocked and today i'm doing a no run through review for the newest hero for marvel champions which is quicksilver and i gotta say i was not expecting quicksilver to be so much fun he is a fantastic addition to this game and one that i was uh i i kind of expected what he was gonna do and if you're like if you know anything about quicksilver you know that he is i think he's the fastest character in marvel um basically marvel's version of the flash to my understanding and so you are you'd be right to assume that he raised himself a lot and that is something that gives you so much uh flexibility whenever you're playing him because normally whenever you're playing a character if you use them for their basic attack then or their basic abilities or any other ability really they're that's what you can do with them and yes of course most characters you can build them in a way where they can kind of uh ready a little bit more but he does it a lot and there are a lot of combos in his deck that make him so much fun so let's go ahead and talk about these cards because you would think oh you can ready him a lot so therefore he must be busted not at all because he only has nine health and one bad boost draw and you're already under half health and you're just like oh and the other and the other reason i'll get to when i talk about the

1:41 the quicksilver hero form so as pietro maximoff the brother of uh scarlet witch or uh wanda maximoff which for the record if you haven't seen it go watch wandavision because it is fantastic uh his main ability is super powered siblings action discard two cards and then draw two cards but you draw three instead if wanda maximoff is in play and you can do that once per round now this is interesting because i think this might be played in two ways i'm not a hundred percent on one of them but in his deck he does have scarlet witch which just say wanda maximoff so if she's in play as an ally i'm gonna assume that his ability lets you draw three and then discard two so you get one card advantage however that might also play off with the team up ability where if you actually have because the next hero is going to be scarlet witch uh if she's actually playing and she's in her alter ego form then they kind of work together and he can draw more cards so i'm assuming her probably alter ego is gonna be something similar to that so i really really like that i love the fact that his actual ability is uh is tied to another character he still gets to do it but it's a little bit more powerful if he has someone else so that is fantastic because that they they they introduce the duo ability with uh ant-man and wasp and i mentioned in my wasp video

3:11 that i it that they made more sense as a duo than quick silver and scarlet witch which is uh i think as heroes that is correct but uh i forgot that uh quicksilver and scarlet witch are siblings so never mind omit that just listen to me now uh but anyway so then we go into his hero form which is awesome his his cards are so cool i really really like uh his art so as you can see nine health and he's ones across the board one for one attack and one defense and that one defense sucks means so that basically means whenever he got shot in age of ultron that makes sense that he killed him because it's just that i mean he couldn't just dodge the bullets that'd be stupid right so super speed as a response after you use one of quicksilver's basic powers thor attacker defense you can ready him and you can limit that once per phase and that is such an awesome ability whenever you're comboing it with a bunch of cards so let's go ahead and go into some of his uh some of his cards because most of them are definitely events and i kind of mentioned scarlet witch already so we can kind of talk about her uh one four and one attack uh but when you use one of her basic powers you discard the top card of the uh what they call it encounter deck and the boost icons give her plus one to what she's using so she kind of gets the ability of the villain whenever they do their attack or their thwarting so that's really cool because you can she

4:42 can attack once and then draw a plus three boost and deal four damage which is awesome so she's there but then you have quicksilver's three upgrades which are hyper hyper perception which gives him one thwart he you have accelerated reflex gives him one defense and then you have reinforced sinew which gives him one attack so now you're definitely seeing his potential a lot more because oh he has those three out well now he's twos across the board which turns into fours across the board if you are utilizing his ability now it is once per round or once per phase so meaning that oh it's the hero phase okay i'm gonna attack i'm gonna attack that's four damage at the end of the phase he's readied oh i'm being attacked okay i'm gonna defend twice because he has that ability so that is a fantastic addition to him now here's where he becomes pretty gross because he has another card which is an event maximum velocity which gives him twos plus twos across the board so if he has those out then he's dealing four which then turns into eight which is just amazing eight damage especially if you're playing solo just being able to pop off like that oh and then he gets really really cool now uh real quick he has a hands on a card which i really like the theme of it which is double time and that is a

6:14 hero action you get to choose one or both uh or you get to choose two things of both these deal two damage to an enemy or deal uh remove two threats from a scheme and you can do one you can do both of them or you can do one of them twice so that's just fantastic to have if you don't have your upgrades out so you're not quite doing a bunch of damage you can at least mitigate okay well i'm gonna try and remove some two threat here and i'm gonna do some a little bit of damage over here in my recent game with him i was actually playing against ultron because why not that seems to make sense uh and because he was killed by ultron of course and age of ultron the best avengers movie ever made tops end game like end game is trash compared to age of ultron that's obviously a joke but uh the fact that you can use that to kind of just quickly kill uh two drones and then utilize quicksilver to deal with some thor or or attack ultron directly um now here's where uh one other card which is an upgrade is really cool friction resistance which it costs a lot to come out but whenever you ready quicksilver you ready this card and you can exhaust that card to generate a fist resource which you can then spend on these other level one cards which i absolutely love and there are four of them there are four of them in the deck so and that card is always be running which is uh you just ready quicksilver and that's it so uh bear with me here

7:47 you play on your turn let's just say you have the perfect hand you're you already have you have a friction resistance out so you're uh so you have that you have quicksilver you've played uh let's just do damage well i mean damage is always the cool one so then you have your reinforced sinew so now he's doing plus two and then in your hand you have maximum velocity uh you have maximum one of the you have strength and then you have your four always be running so basically what you can do is you can play your maximum velocity to give a quick silver plus two on everything and then you attack with him so that's four damage no that's actually five damage because it's the uh he has the no it's four sorry the reinforced sinew which gives him two now he has plus two so that's four so you attack with him then you ready him uh because once per once per phase and then you attack with him again so that is eight damage then uh you have your hand this is literally of course always as the the perfect hand but every every character has an op um has an op build or at least one so then you spend friction resistance to play your always be running so now you ready him again then you attack so now you're doing 12 damage but since you ready him you're ready friction resistance spend it again so that becomes uh what i say that's uh 12 then that is 16 then

9:18 18 and then 20 damage because each time you're readying him you get to ready friction resistance and then exhaust that to uh pay for the always be running cards so yeah so you just uh resist friction and do maximum velocity and do 20 damage all i mean that'd be your entire hand and then you ready him for the uh the villain's turn and oh he's gonna do six damage okay well i'm gonna you know defend twice yes i won't be ready then oh but i happen to draw a card that lets me ready him or whatever it is of course but that's just that is so cool like the fact that you just get to constantly ready and just zip back and forth and just be doing a ton of damage all for a total of 20 which would uh i think ultron and solo in his in the second phase has 22 health um so you'd almost one shot him and there are a little bit of other ways like if you did a double time in the previous round so he had 20 health and then you just got that perfect hand to just boom boom boom and then oh wait look at that quicksilver ultron couldn't catch him and he's dead now that is such that is so awesome you like you feel so cool it feels good to be able to constantly ready and get a little small engine going uh with kind of this this combination um i mean that's pretty much his cards he has two more that are a little bit

10:48 different uh one support which is serval industries uh which is as an alter ego action you can exhaust this to shuffle two quick silver cards back into your deck so you can get you know whatever you need to always be running cards which are fantastic because it gets to ready and and then this one is really cool if you kind of have this and a few of your because he comes with protection and like some of the protection or at least some of the basic cards adrenaline rush gives him an extra damage so that could potentially uh do if you did one less um uh well actually no if you had if you had the adrenaline rush you can add another attack so he'd have five total so he could he'd be doing he could do 25 he can do 25 damage if wanda maximoff is in play and he draws three because then he'd have seven cards in his hand so then he could spend the final friction resistance to pay for this or not the final one but the first one and then he'd have five damage coming in with this combination so he could do 25 damage with obviously the perfect hand but the protection deck is actually really good um for quicksilver because there's a lot of uh interrupts and responses that allow uh defense because one bad hit and you're struggling to go back and then heal um you've no other ways of actually healing but then like a few others where it's like sidestep where if you prevent three damage you can spend an electric resource to stun the enemy um and then

12:19 some body armor armored suit that lets you get a little bit more defense so the protection deck actually works really well for him and i like that because i mean you could build him if you wanted to go like aggression you could go in a way where uh you you just try to maximize as much damage and quickly end it with him before that you get hit back but the other card where if you let's just say you have let's just say you have a junk hand like i mean let's just say these like you just have these kind of five cards well his other event is called speed cyclone which it has an x cost which i don't think i've seen an x cost yet and if i have i don't remember but you stun x enemies so specifically against ultron which would be really cool if you just jump your hand to five and all those drones become stunned he becomes stunned uh caught in the speed cyclone so then they don't attack which means your next turn you can start actually dealing a little bit more damage so he is so much fun and i am continuously impressed with marvel champions being able to pump out these characters that feel like the character without i mean of course being a hundred percent thematic um like you have to kind of think okay well quicksilver versus i mean rhino is always the one that i give you know crap to because it's like would rhino beat anyone like it i don't i don't really know i don't know much about rhino but it's like like oh rhino versus doctor strange yeah i did like that that would be that would

13:51 be that but uh you have to kind of suspend your disbelief but also think well there's side schemes and there's other things going on so it's quicksilver dealing with ultron and hydra or all and then weapons and things like that that he has to try and stop he's like yeah i beat ultron but you know all these side schemes are going off or i'm fighting ultron which i and i'm winning but all these side schemes are going off which are causing me to lose so it's there but in terms of quicksilver the fact that it came out feels like quicksilver um and and and just continues to be amazing like i cannot wait every single you know because now they've announced obviously scarlet witch is next and then star lord is one of them i don't know if he's coming out before the guardians of the galaxy box set the uh i don't remember what that one's called but that one comes with root root rocky raccoon and groot and then doing their five chapter thing which comes with more villains and so on and so forth so i am loving this lcg i cannot wait every single hero they announce i'm just gonna buy because it's fantastic so now in comparison to some of the other heroes uh quicksilver is definitely not my favorite um like he kind of is he he still is kind of a one-trick pony you do get a lot of really cool combos but you are essentially just using him like you don't have a lot of extra cards you don't have a lot of gear you don't have a lot of

15:22 allies you don't have a lot of combos like that um so he is still like your your coolness is him himself not everything else uh which is still fine but i like some of the other characters because they do have gadgets and things like that that they do they can pop off in different ways um but i love the balance here as well because he could easily be broken and as far as i can tell none of the heroes that they've released are broken um in fact my latest game against ultron i lost because i got down to two health i obviously didn't have this ultra you know broken combo um and yeah ultron just happened to you know do a little bit more damage than than i could and i got them down to two and that's all i could do so it's even though this mega combo is here obviously i didn't draw that hand now on a scale of 1 to 10 what would i give quick silver i think i'm going to give him it's hard because i i don't know how he's gonna be with scarlet witch um in fact his ability his his regular ability does come with something that does deal with wanda maximoff which is awesome uh i need to see i don't i'm pretty sure there's a team up car there it is there it is yeah the team up card uh order and chaos so once again team up quicksilver and scarlet witch uh maximum

16:53 for deck hero interrupt when a treachery card is revealed from the encounter deck cancel its rin when revealed effects then deal two damage to the villain so not horrible um i definitely think the team up ability is better for ant-man and wasp i like that uh more than this one but these can become clutch when hey if this was coming out ultron only had two health left if he you win his draw i can i could have dealt two damage and quickly killed him so and i cancel this effect so it is thematic so uh because i then give i didn't give ant-man a rating on on what he was like with with wasp because he wasn't out at the time so as of right now scarlet witch isn't out so quicksilver right now is i think gonna get a seven a seven out of ten um potentially an eight how depending on how he feels with with wanda but if anything is to go off with ant-man and wasp it's gonna be more thematic uh like a a thematic duo than a mechanical one with the cards so um yeah i think 7 or 7.5 i really think he's cool i love the the quickness with him and the efficiency of all your cards but at the end of the day like i said it is just quicksilver that you're really doing a lot of damage with not anything else so yeah i think i'm gonna stick with a seven so still a lot of fun definitely get all of them get all of them like if you're sitting there and you're like which one should i get all of them
