Hey everybody, I'm Tom Vassel.

I'm Chris Yay.

Today we're taking a look at Tag Team Arthur's Legacy. Now, Tag Team is a game that we reviewed last year when it came out. Tag Team is a game where you take two characters and you play an auto battler of sorts. Mhm.

You're putting together a deck of cards. You reveal that deck of card one card at a time and you fight each other and you try to knock out one of your opponents two characters. You do that, you win. Very simple, except that all 12 characters had different decks. All 12 characters were very, very different. Well, now we have the follow-up to it a year later. This one has six characters in it, and they're instead of being all over the board, the first one had a druid that turned into a bear and some future people and all kinds of stuff. This one is all based on the box says loosely based on Arththeran Legends. Oh yeah, loosely based.

Yeah. I mean, but it Yeah. So, they have a cohesive theming to it. It is a standalone box that you can play just these six characters or you can integrate it as basically an expansion with the original tag team.

So, that being said, we're going to be taking a look at this sort of mostly as an expansion for the main purpose of we've already reviewed Tag Team. This is the exact same game with just six characters. Um, but I do want to mention before I get into talking about this, if I was going to buy one, I get the original one because it has 12 characters and the combinations there are well more and it's even more than double because the they go up exponentially.

Mhm.

And also, I like the the different mixings of theme.

You could buy this one, I think, as like a taste test to see what it's like, but if you want to, we love Tag Team.

Absolutely. Hands down.

So, you can go look at that review of that game. So, we'll take a look at the new characters in this one, and it's completely compatible with the other So, for me, it's six more characters. Now, I have 18. But just keep that in mind. Here we go. Let's take a look at each of the characters, and we're going to go through them in the least complex to the most complex. First of all, we have Persville. Percolo here. His starting card and some of his other cards. His attack is basically equal to the number of cards that have already been played from the deck. So, this can be more and more powerful as time goes by. He even has some cards that count as multiple cards here. And then his things kind of deal like if the two previous cards were your partners, then one thing happens and your opponent. Um, so he he's all about which cards have been played from the deck. Uh, other than that, he starts with zero power. So you're going to need to buff him up quickly. The dragon comes with scales. These scales can be placed in the dragon and basically they're think of them as shields. When you take damage, you get rid of these instead of taking the damage on the dragon. and he starts with two power and he has things that give him scales. Um, but he also has this really powerful attack which is all his power plus scales, but then you get rid of the different scales. So, it's kind of like that. You're just working with these scales. A pretty basic, easy character and strong. You'll notice he has 20 uh hit points. This someone's first game. Definitely one to recommend. Morgan has a token that comes with her that you put on top of her pile or top of the deck to remind you that she gets to see your opponent's card

that they're adding to the deck before you add your own. And so she also has this card here that her starting card. If your opponent plays their starting card, she gets a power so she can pump up in power pretty quickly. And her cards are all about if your opponents do something or blocking your opponents and trying to figure out. She's all about trying to guess what your opponents do. If your opponent's healed, then you also heal. Things like that. Then we have the green knight. So the green knight has an extra token here, which starts at the top. And this token will sometimes move downwards for reducing your max hit points. However, the more the green knight is wounded, the more power they have. You can see if they're nine death, they are plus eight power, which is pretty powerful. Um although again, you're taking the risk of dying yourself. And there you can ignore all hit point loss. You move that Greenwood mask. That's what the token is down one space, then move your health marker to your new max. So he also heals every time he plays his starting card. And so there's a lot of cards that move the mask down, but then help you and your teammate out. And so he just gets stronger and stronger until hopefully he does a killing blow.

Then we have Excalibur. Excalibur is actually not a character, which means if Excalibur is destroyed, so if it goes from seven all the way to the bottom, which is a small hit points, then Excalibur is broken and now it's the broken blade. Now, don't feel like that makes Excalibur overpowered. It's not particularly good. Excalibur is all about buffing your opponent. their starting card. Um, if you're gonna take a power and add a power to Excalibur and then subtract that power from Excalibur and give it to your opponent, you're constantly buffing your opponent. And there's a lot of your cards are going to help your opponent. However, most of the cards are also very negative. If you get a broken blade and you have a lot of Excalibur cards in your deck, then your your teammate is just going to start losing hit points at a very terrible rate. Um, here this one, the sword's broken. everybody, including the opponents are going to take that two direct damage. So, that actually could come in handy possibly. So, Zabra is like an extra it's it's almost like equipment that you're equipping the other character with rather than a teammate. And then there finally there's Merlin. Merlin comes with an extra track here. Um Merlin's going to start with some tokens at the top here like this.

And when Merlin plays cards, they are going to Oh, and I'm sorry. Merlin also starts with a token here in the middle of this sort of like tree. And when Merlin plays cards, often they're going to allow him to sometimes activate wherever this token is in a tree, you will get that ability. And so you'll see there's all sorts of things causing direct damage, doing an attack, healing, blocking an attack, and then you also get to move on the tree. So, you're constantly moving this to get to those spots to take those actions. So, lots of your cards are going to let you take the action of where your token or tokens are on the tree because when you get to one of these ending spots here, you get to bring on another token and move that. This is going to give you multiple actions and also it increases your power as you put these tokens on. So, you might want to run to these quick endings rather than to these more powerful actions. And so, that is how Merlin works.

Now, it's kind of funny at the the characters in this because I think one of them, Merlin in particular, is the most complex character

in all of Yeah. Yep.

And Percyville is one of the easiest characters and the dragon or two of the easiest characters they've ever made.

Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, the dragon's great. Oh, scales, extra little defense. Sometimes you have a card effect that says if you have scales. Cool. Uh, and that's the kind of stuff that I I I think that it's amazing that this game system supports that and it still feels like the same game. That being said, Merlin is definitely an oddity that I think in all of Tag Team. And I might be wrong here, right? But I think they're the only character where you actually have to make a decision once the battle starts.

Ah, I there might be some other people. I'm not sure, but you're you might be right. That's true. I didn't think about that. And it's a tricky one because the Merlin tree, you're like, "Wow, so many options, so many things." Yeah. Someone's dead before you've really made like eight, you know, you're not playing the game for a very long time. You could, I suppose,

depending on the the match,

you're not running THROUGH LIKE, OH, WOW, YOU CAN.

Every tag, not every, but a lot of the tag team champions are always like, if I can just do this, it's amazing. Like in here, if I could just get the green knight to one health,

then I'm going to wall up you. And the same thing with Merlin. If I can get three of those tokens Yeah. on the spot, then I'm going to Sure. But often the game ends faster than that, which is fine. I like that the concept is there.

And there's definitely some of the characters in the original box who have more healing and more kind of, you know, drag out the fight a little bit. So yeah, in different combinations, I see that happening more. Um, playing just these six together. Yeah, I think that they're good. I think that they, you know, fit thematically and I don't have any complaints about that and uh mixing them with the original great. I think that's actually a stronger suit of the box. Personally,

my two favorite in here by far are Persville because I know he's very simple, but I love this concept of the more cards he has, the better you are.

Oh, it's so cool.

But if you keep putting pal cards in your deck, he's also going to die because he's always be the one getting hit by the opponent. So, you have to kind of keep that in mind. Mhm.

And then Excalibur because it's just a cool thing. If when Excalab breaks, you're like, "We're going to die now cuz your other guy's like just takes damage the whole time." But it's just that neat idea of I have this sword and he just keeps making that other guy stronger, whoever it might be. And I'm really keen to try Excalibur out with some of the other characters from the first set.

I agree. I and it's fun because he's such a short health track, but if you can pair him with a character who can heal your uh your partner like there's just so many fun combinations of of of yeah, just strange ways like oh I didn't think that these two would work together together so well.

And my least favorite of the new characters is Morgan.

I agree actually. Yeah. Oh, I I just feel like it breaks the flow of the game a little bit to be like what card are you picking now? I will pick my card. And I also don't think it's that interesting of a power. Oh, that's the card you're picking. Cool.

Where where's it going? I don't know. Yeah.

Yeah. It's it's it's my least I like her cards more. So, I don't dislike her completely. I like her idea that she plays this card where you play your card. Like, if she plays that starting card where your starting card is, that gets a plus power. That's some cool stuff. You're like, she's definitely the one where you're trying to outthink the opponent on where they're going to put stuff.

It is the most Yeah. In a game that's already kind of like mind readading the other player. Uh donkey space some people call that. Surely you won't do this because I'll do this and you know that I won't do that. Yeah,

she's kind of the Yeah, the most extreme version of it.

Yeah, I really like this expansion. It's fun. But again, so my rating for this I want to I'm kind of My rating for this is a nine because I love tag team and these are six awesome new characters. Well, five awesome and one fine Morgan uh characters to throw in. That's great. If I was rating it as a standalone product, I'd probably give it an eight just because I'd be like, "Oh, you play two characters. I played two characters. Now let's switch out. Oh, there's only two characters left. While with the original one, I felt like there was a lot more like, "Oh, now we'll play with two new characters. Now we'll do more." And you But with 18 characters. Yes. Yeah. I I agree. There's like almost a whole point, probably more than a whole point difference, honestly, for me rating this as a standalone game because I think as a standalone game, it'd be like a seven. Like this is pretty good.

But I I also feel like the characters in here don't have as weird of swings from each other. like they have more complexity difference, but like

in the original box, think about like the the flame guy who like if you if you get five flame tokens of the same character, auto win.

That is such a a strange out there effect that I feel like maybe the strangest one in here is is the sword is Excalibur, right?

But it doesn't feel as flashy. So, I like it as a standalone thing. As an expansion is great, 8.5. So, that's kind of where I'm ultimately going to rate it with a caveat. I don't recommend you start with this one. Even if you love the theming more, I think you just get so much more game from getting the basic box.

Yeah. Well, there you go, folks. That's tag team Arthur's Legacy. I'm Tom.
