Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the discriminating gamer. conjunctivitis.com Now that's sight for sore eyes. Today we're taking a look at Tarawa 1943 Solitaire from Worthington Publishing. Now, this is another one of their small box solitaire games. All right, and they've been really fun, really good and I've actually enjoyed every single one of these I played. This one looks like it's going to be a little bit different based on what I'm seeing on the back. So I'll tell you what, let's go down to the table, let's open this one up, and let's see what's on the inside.

All right folks, here we go. This is Tarawa. I hope I got that name right. Correct me if I'm wrong. 1943 Solitaire. I've always had a problem with that name for some reason, not really sure why. All right, flipping this over, what do we got? Solo game, ages 14 and up. It looks like victory's going to be in about an hour on this one. And this one looks like, from what I'm seeing here, it looks like it might be just a little bit different than some of the other ones. All right, but this one here is actually a card driven game. Um of the Second Marine Division's assault on the Japanese held held Tarawa. Okay. All right. Well, you know what, let's get this open. Now, most of these are usually, just like a hex encounter, they're not really card driven. Um I don't really remember them being card driven. There's been so many of them now that I'm losing track.

But I can't wait to see what's in here cuz this box, I will say this, this box is heavier than all of the other ones that I remember doing, too. All right, so first thing we're going to get is we're going to get our rule book. Okay, we've got our game board. All right. Control of the positions. Your game components, bunker markers. All right. What else we got? Your exhaustion check, uh game setup. Why they put game setup closer to the back? All right, your sequence of play. All right, so we have the US Marine Corps turn. Now we're going to have the Japanese turn performing your actions. All right, your dice results for attacks for the US Marine Corps. All right.

There is a lot more to this one than a lot of the other ones. So this one looks like it's going to be a little deeper. I can't wait to give this one a try. All right, Japanese banzai attacks. All right. And then what do we got? Victory results, all your victory. We got some optional rules right here down here. Game set up and turn example. Little text base, no pictures, but you can at least read about it. And there you go. There we go. Game design, Grant Wylie and Mike Wylie. Very nice. Okay, rulebook looks pretty good. So what are we going to get token-wise? We'll take a look at those. All right. So you know that there's your punch test right there if you're kind of wondering. So this side's going to show him being exhausted. All right. Let's get that little token put back in there cuz I don't really want to lose that token. See what you get them right there. Oh, look at that. Punches back in nice.

Okay, and our second set of tokens. Very good. Now, let's see. What are we going to have? We're going to have a nice little sturdy player board. Little artwork there but or actually that's a photo on the back there. Very cool. But there's going to be your dice rolls for the Marine Corps, for the Japanese banzai attack and then their Japanese fire attacks. We're going to have another board. Okay. 6th Marine Regiment. Okay, up. A little more photo on the back. Very nice. And that's also nice. See both of those are thick thick cardboard. Going to get another one that's going to be a nice thick cardboard. So rather than a big board, it looks like you're just getting a bunch of these right now. Okay. So this is going to be all your different characters and and all your tracks for them.

Very nice. Okay, there's your back art artwork photo. And ah, now we're going to get to our board. Okay. Ooh, yeah. And you know we're going to do this. Look at that. Look at that plane. Look at that picture. Oh, I do like that. That looks very nice. Very nice. Okay. And here we go. So yeah, so definitely looks like we're going to be putting our our different troops, moving them in. Okay. And of course you're going to be rolling your dice and setting everything up the way it needs to be. Very cool. I do like this. Yeah, just trying to take over that whole airfield. Very good. Let's get this guy put off to the side. And what else we're going to have over here? We're going to get a couple bags for our tokens. Got a nice little slot for our dice right down the middle. That's kind of cool.

It's like we're going to have some artwork in there like normal. There's your dice, nice little rounded corners on that. Okay. Not that the dice are going to do any good rolling them on paper or your cards, but I like them. Now, we're going to get two decks of cards in here. And there's your artwork in the inside. Very nice. Okay. So. Let's get this guy up. So this game here is more reminiscent of some of their bigger solo games. They just kind of put it in the small little package, make it more portable. So I do like that. Okay. I was going to go through all the cards. All right. You can pause and take a look at any of them that you want. Looks like we have a bunch of fire attacks. Okay. Definitely going to have some duplicates on some of these cards.

Not on every one of them. Okay, we got a few snipers. Got our infiltration. Your field of fire. And your troop movement. And there you go. So that is going to be is that your Japanese deck right there? You know what, let's just put them in like that. Ah, see if we can Some of these paper ones, man, they make these things so tight. Okay. This is going to be Is it a Marine Corps deck? Our dynamic command. Second Tank Battalion. All right. Pause if you want to take a closer look at any of these.

Air support. Oh, and your naval support. 18th Marine Regiment card. And your command coordination. All right, and there you go. And that's everything you're going to get inside of this little box. Okay. Yeah. Now, there's definitely what looks like a lot of gameplay. This This one looks really good. Okay, let's see if we can get all these dice put back in here. Got just enough room to get your finger in there to get them out. All right, like I said, we got our Ziploc bags so we can put our tokens in here when everything's said and done. Actually, we can just kind of lay that over the cross the top. We're going to get our board in here. And get those in there and then of course our rulebook on top. And this is one full box. So, when you punch those tokens, you're definitely probably not going to want to keep them in there because there's not going to be room for them. But there you go. That is Tarawa 1943 Solitaire small box. Woo, a lot of game inside there. All right. Let's head up top and close this out.

All right, folks, there you go. That is Tarawa 1943 Solitaire. And this looks like it's going to be another solid game from Worthington. Looks really good. Cannot wait to give this one a play. Um, I do like the style of game that they've done. I like the small package this one's in. It's portable. I can travel with it. Can't wait to give this one a try.
