0:00 pee try again the word plays again like uh like in Mark Talk's other games hey everyone this isar and today I am back with yet another video for the nine card print andplay game design contest currently hosted on Board Game Geek and today I will be showing you veggie patch by Mark Chuck you might know this name um because he has designed games such as forage Grove and Orchard right and now another uh vegetable um themed game and this time veggie patch before I will get started showing the game let us just grab a cup of tea and let's do this oh yeah there we go all right so this contest utilizes only nine cards right you can use them you can dou print them you can put on them whatever you want but you can also use other components right because nine Parts is nine cards is a pretty hard limitation so we also have nine Dice and three tokens let's just get started right away so I can show you how this works so what we do is we roll these dice here like this and all um di that have a one can be changed to any die value um I'm not quite sure what to do but let me just do a four I will later show you um why and then I will just put them aside here like this um and also we

1:33 have these three tokens we also put them like where we can reach them and then we have like these nine cards what we do is we just Shuffle those um we can we just flip a few cards over um because we will only use one side that's kind of like um like the randomization you do here so and since I have sleeved them I can just like push them into one another in order to uh shovel them which is pretty cool all right just like that maybe let's turn over a few more at the top and a few more at the bottom give them another cut and there we go and then we just put um that stack to the side and we put the first card in the middle that's almost everything you need for the setup one last thing and we have now these dice here so now we add up all of the uh all of the Pips here which is 4 6 8 12 18 23 25 30 that's 34 and in the rules here they are there is like a little table and there it says like um you need to like look for where 34 would be will be right here lower than 37 so we also subtract five from that right so 34 - 5 that's 29 and we keep that in mind um I just wrote it down just to be uh safe that 29 is our Target score I will get in a little while I will get to what that means all right and now for the gameplay how does it work well actually quite easy you always take the top card of the uh of the deck without turning it over we have to use this side and then we try to complete like um one of these different beds in our veggie patch right we are trying to put like the same kind

3:05 of vegetables together because then we can put higher dice there but we can also like put other ones there this would now be a complete bed right but we can also do it like this and when after we have done this for example let me just take the carrots here uh what we then do is we put a Dye of that color on here um the red red dice are for the carrage the purple ones here are for the beetroots and the green ones because the have any I didn't have any white or cream dice in that in that size at least these are for the onions here I still took green because there also are spring onions right and onions also have like this green uh like the green um the green stuff at the at the top there so I think green is still fine for the onions so um carrots right there are six carrots so we now put a six on here that is six points at the end of the game perfect but let's say I didn't have that six right then I would have an issue because I only have a five and a four but there are six uh six carrots on here that means what I then do is then I take the five and then I have to um reduce the size by half the Pips um but round it up so that would become a three then right U for the four the four would become a two um that's also okay right these are also points at the end of the game but less points there is also an option that you put um that you put like different uh vegetables together and what you then do is then you put like the Dy on there that is or that has the same number of Pips right for example

4:36 here a four um but I would have to choose like one of the two colors and the one color that I choose I decrease it by that number right so if I put a four here for the uh for the carrots right then I would have to decrease it by four by three so I would rather put a four here for the uh spring for the for the onion right because I only have to reduce it by one to a three that's like roughly how it works right um and I will just show you how that looks like an action right so for the first card here I would put that right here because that would be six carats which is pretty good because I do have a six right here that's it now we take the next one here so these uh the beat roots are not perfect here because that's six I don't have a purple six right I what have do to reduce the die we don't want that um I also don't have three here for the carrots um four I could do this I could go right here right and then I would have four for the onions that would work all right let's take the next one here um I would have four for the carrots yeah I can't place it like this here right because these would overlap that doesn't work um I cool no that's not good um I do have a five this would be nice here actually I think this would be okay let me just um push all of that little up here a little bit um like five

6:06 beatroots that sounds good because I have a five oops that was a five I swear um I can put the five right there all righty so what else can we do here um uh oh this actually doesn't work right this was overlap this wouldn't work but I don't have a five here anywh way uh carrot three I don't have I don't have a four here oh it's not looking too good here well then I will just do it like this here and then I will put the um put the four here and now I have to reduce it by half the number right that's two um alternatively I can also reduce it by half the number of the veggies round it up is also two that's fine I have to take the lower number right yeah that isn't perfect but that's the way it goes okay so um I will put that here for sure because having the five here would be really nice uh so let's see what we have here yeah with the two twos these are going to break my neck there is um something that I haven't shown you yet and these uh this is these three tokens here right so we have blue for the watering can this one lets us increase one die by one so that could help also here we have the the uh here we have the bird and the bird that lets us decrease a die by one like increase and decrease and then we

7:37 also have the gray one which I used as the garden fork and that one let us reroll a die and if you roll one we can roll again so that could also help us right because these two twos are really bad um so either I could go right here to put turn that into a three but I don't really want to decrease the dice right because these are all points and remember we want to reach a point value of 29 at least um at best even three higher than that um for a good score right so um so I think it might be an idea to actually take the watering can right um I would just remove that from the game and increase that one by one here and then I would just put that one right there so we have the three for the onions I think that's not too bad okay so um here this is good for the for the uh beatroots here I think that would work well also I could put a three here so let me see we still have that carrot and we have one carrot left I can already see here that I have another one for the be root here so instead I will put the three right here for the carrots and put that one here and then the beatroot um just one doesn't really matter where I put it I would just put it over here right two beatroots put them right there and with that the game is over there's one die left um there is a possibility to put all the DI on the cards but that

9:08 only works if you have a 3X3 grid right but I never have a 3X3 Grid in this game I never do yeah and now we count together our points and that works in the following way we count together all the Pips and then we also add one point each for the bird and the watering can the watering can I've used so that is one point less but I do have the bird still left all right so let's um count together all the points here that's 2 5 10 15 19 21 27 that's 31 + 1 that is 32 our Target score was 29 there'll be a three above the target score you know what that means that means that we have um reached the best rank uh let me just find the rules here here it's a little bit small but it says less than your target so if we didn't reach the 29 would have lost don't be down beat peace try again peace try again the word plays again like uh like in Mark's other games equal to your target which would have been 29 you win that was a close kale and then more than any Target just in general um would be a fine achievement in my oponion okay they these are like these are these are really really these are really bad the were play but in a good way and then Grader by three or more which we reached with 32 points right I Carriage believe it is but a spacular win so um that means we

10:41 actually won the game by three points which is like the best rank that's actually the first time I have achieved that rank before that I was always like at rank two um just like um being like one point above the target score every every game this time was three more than that but yeah that is how you play a V patch um one of the entries in the nine card print and play game design contest currently hosted on Board Game Geek this is the third game that I'm showing off on the channel if you haven't watched the other ones yet um there is a link to the playlist in the description of this video so you can check out the other videos as well and I highly recommend you do because these designs are really interesting because these are so minimalistic right such minimalist designs with just nine cars and a few components very very interesting all right so I usually don't give any reviews here and if FLH reviews because the games are still in progress they have just been designed right that wouldn't be fair to the designers but I usually say a few words and this game I like a lot um I like puzzle games I like tie laying and C laying games and also like car games in general so this checks like all the boxes there also the theme is great for me because I love like vegetable themed games uh all like nature farming animals all of that stuff I just love that so this just um is a game that really hits home and also it works really well it's like quite thinky but the rules are very simple uh the only thing is it is game yes but it more feels like a puzzle because you do have um a little bit of player agency but not
