5 Years to Marsπ§βποΈπ - From NASA to Board Game!
hi everyone it's Tyrant and Stella from Maple University today we'll show you a quick how to play or overview of five years to Mars let's get to the game five years to Mars is a card Drafting and engine building game in which players work to build up the equipment and science necessary for the establishment of a permanent base on Mars it was designed by Sharon and Alex goza and published by game to learn the game plays one to six players in 90 minutes with competitive and Cooperative modes and is of light to medium complexity the space race is again ignited the major powers of the world are competing against each other to be the first to land humans on Mars set up a permanent base and return them safely with five years to act players use the budgets given to them by the government and other private investors to advance research in the eight programs needed to achieve their mission first to complete all eight programs or whoever makes the most progress in five rounds is the winner in the core of the game players take turns purchasing project cards from the common market for space bucks or spucks the icons on the left directly allow for advancements on the corresponding objective tracks the categories at the bottom are collected in sets of four for matching to advance once on each of the matching tracks or four differing to advance once on a track of your choice cards May contribute multiple icons to a set but form part of only one set each completed projects also come with additional private funding and each round you'll have a budget of 20 spucks from the government and further income from all of your prior projects there are other tactical options to help you build your projects or out position your opponents players can buy research cards which makes certain project types cheaper for the rest of the game and in fact research is your only option in round one as the projects don't appear until round two players have action cards to give themselves special abilities harm their opponents or react to a card played on them money can be spent on new action cards or replenishing the market and with the optional events module players will need to respond to the unexpected happenings of the market game ends when one player has achieved all eight objectives or after five rounds at which point the player with the most combined progress on the eight tracks plus bonuses for being the first to max out each track is the winner five years to Mars offers the simple Elegance of a card draft with a focus on taking the right card at the right time managing your budget and the Tactical use of action cards to leverage situational advantages coming from game to learn five years to Mars is the product of a collaboration between retired NASA educator Sharon goza and game designer Alex goza and it takes a realistic and educational view of what it would take Humanity to achieve this feat the game also comes with a Cooperative mode players are still responsible for their own budgets and cards but the icons gained are pulled collectively moving on a track costs one icon per player and the aim is to max out all eight projects before the five rounds are complete and that's a quick how to play of 5 years to Mars hopefully it's been useful this was a prototype tabletop simulator version of the game and so the rules and components may not be final and do check out the project page for the game we'll put a link to that in the description below thanks so much for watching everything you do will help us every single few every time you like our videos Instagram if a single comment let us know that you're there make sure you're doing something fun today see you next time
