Towers of Yoma - A Mazing Tower Defense Game - Final Grade - Kickstarter Critique Clip
Transcript
Towers of Yōma, amazing tower defense game. Final grade. Do I want it? Is yes, I think it looks like a really cool game and the companion app looks like it's very helpful and it looks like it's good like it has a really fun cooperative and solo five-part thing with different heroes and nice artwork. And everything I need to make an informed decision is here now. It was not at the beginning, but yes. Do I want it? Yes. I liked the video to an extent, but the more I went through the page, the less I liked the video because I feel like there's a lot of things that we could have spotlighted better. Can you do it? Yes. Going back to things I think you should have spotlighted better. You have done other games, they have shipped out. Some of them are even, you know, like so many kitchen unleashes 3151. That is a really highly rated game. Oh, that's because it's Yummy Yummy Monster Tommy. What is that? Yummy Yummy Monster Tommy is freaking fantastic. It's like right there. I'm going to play with my daughter pretty soon, actually. Great game, by the way.
Highly recommend that one. Uh also, great app, too. Is that you? Is that you? Holy crap, that makes me want to Like why wouldn't you spotlight that, right? Like hey, we've done other stuff in the past on these apps. I feel like that
[sighs]
I feel like that was something that totally should have been spotlighted and could have been spotlighted better. It just felt like it was slid in in the video as like, "Oh, by the way, we also have an app." And it shouldn't have been. It should have been embraced, you know, like Lucky Duck Games does with a Yummy Yummy Monster Tommy. So, do I want it? Uh it like you used to do on Kickstarter. Like your main image used It had a picture of a phone on one of them. And now it's just like, "Let's focus on this box with generic artwork of like post-apocalyptic pigs or something." Like come on. Like I've had enough of those. Do I want it? Yes. Can you do it? Yes, but I don't feel like you did a fantastic job convincing me of that and you very easily could have. And then how much is it? It's is uh woo If you're in the United States of America, it's a roughin, you know? We're up to what? 147 euro? What is that? 147 Euro to dollars gets you to 170 bucks.
That is and here's the thing. At the end of the day this still has 44 pieces of plastic and an expansion and this. So it is high-end Kickstarter reasonable. But I think the the like here's here's the here's the god-honest truth. I think that if you would have just went added 12 Euros to this So this is $122 for what you're getting right here. Look at all this plastic you're getting here and you cut that $12 off the back and you said shipping's 25. People would be like that shipping sucks. But you know what? Fine. I think they literally if you would have had the exact same price they would have not liked the price, but it would have been a better it would have been better it just not like yeah.
They say I would have spent a fair amount of time playing with digital screens. That that is that is yeah. That's good to know. Like I don't mind that, but as a someone who plays with people who don't like the screens a lot, yeah, they hate that. All right, so and then how much is it? It doesn't feel great. It feels high-end Kickstarter reasonable, but your shipping United States of America, which is once again going to be a huge chunk of it just felt so bad. So final grade is a C-ish C minus like I don't know. I don't like to look at numbers when I'm making a like I don't like to look at how much it's funded or how many people didn't back it, but just to see a number of that striking that like hey, you had 6.3 thousand people who wanted this, they were excited about this and you were able to convert one out of every 20 of those people roughly who are like that's that's just and it makes me if the app wasn't there, how different this would be. If the shipping wasn't there, how different this would be. If those gameplay videos were there, how different this would be.
Because then that snowball like any one of those three things going differently and the snowball just happens to roll differently and pick up more momentum. And it might still cuz it has 23 days left. But yeah, this one feels like one of those ones with just some unfortunate circumstances coming together. Really kind of stinks. So final grade is is I think a C. I think C, right? I'm going to go right in the middle. If I would have been here day one, no, it's got to be C minus. That you United States shipping is really bad. The main image is really bad. They have a better English play through and the shipping was lower, I'm pretty sure the funding would be much higher. Yeah, like if they just had done a great job on their main image spotlighting their components and just got down to business really early, I think this could have been over. Like this main image, the more I look at it, the more angry I get.
I'm like that guy with the angry face that's cuz there's so many nice looking components. They're just like, "Hey, here's our art of a pig." C minus. Day one it was a D. No, I'm going to go D plus. I got to go D plus.
[sighs]
Just either embrace your app or don't. D plus. Towers of Yona, amazing tower defense game, which means if this thing if I would have checked this probably when it launched it probably would have like day one it would have been like a D minus. Right? So I I I still want to spotlight that they they are actively trying to work to make it better and improve it, which awesome. But yeah, D plus.
