Restless - An Open World Adventure Game (Preview)
[music] Hey folks, welcome back to the dungeon dive. Daniel here. I hope you're doing well and if you're not, I hope you are soon. And in today's episode, we are taking a look at Restless. Uh this is a crowdfund preview. This game will be on I think it's gamefound. I will post a link and I will pin that and also post a link in the uh in the description for this video.
So, this prototype was sent to the Dungeon Dive for review. And uh let me tell you guys, I absolutely love this game. This game is awesome. It does so many things that I love in adventure board gaming. So, a game of rest of Rustless is played over a short campaign. There are three chapters to the campaign and each chapter can be played solo in about 45 minutes to an hour.
It is a perfect solo game and it almost reaches I think maybe it does reach that kind of a legendary status that I'm always looking for and that is something that is effortlessly easy. As a matter of fact, the rule book makes one of the boldest claims that I have ever seen a rule book make. And that bold statement reads, "The goal of this rulebook is to be read only once.
Ideally, you could use it to kindle the flames in your fireplace before the first session. To make that possible, you can find all essential information such as icons, keywords, and a simplified setup in more accessible components." Now, that is an incredibly bold statement for a rulebook to make and that led me to believe that this game would be effortlessly easy.
And I think it really is. And so, like I said, this game takes place over three chapters. Uh, short little campaign. The whole game can be played in about 2 and 1 half to three hours, probably solo. Of course, if you add more players and play cooperatively with up to four players, that uh time will grow for each player.
So each chapter will have the adventurers, the heroes, the players uh walking through, exploring this overland, having random encounters, and then at a certain point during your adventure, you will trigger a boss, and you have to fight three bosses in order to win the campaign. It's very simple. There isn't really an ongoing story.
There's not a really big story arc. At the end of each chapter, a little thing happens to propel you to the next chapter. But the giant book of adventures is really just a huge book of random encounters. Think of this book as like thousands of cards that you might draw in a game like Runebound or a game like Talisman.
Or maybe think of this adventure book as the app for a game like Lands of Galier or something like that. So, for those of you who are adverse to apps and games and you wanted to try something simple and great and amazing like The Lands of Galier, this might be the game for you. I I personally would like to see this in an app, but I understand why it's not because there are things that you do need to use in this adventure book, such as your little combat icons here for when you go into combat.
But this is a big adventure book that isn't a huge story. Each one of these prompts is a random encounter. And those random encounters are keyed to specific regions while you are exploring. And each region is denoted by a difficulty level. And so when you start the game, you can only go into the easy territories.
And those are noted by these single skull icons. When you reach level two, you can start exploring the level two territories. And when you reach level three and four, you can start exploring those territories. And each one of these territories has a D100 table that you will be rolling on to have random encounters.
Sometimes those random encounters are one-off encounters. Other times you will be told to note something on your character sheet and you will start a quest. And that quest might be more complex. It might be maybe one or two additional steps for that adventure. But at the beginning of chapter 1, you are going to randomly choose one of the chapter 1 bosses.
So we have the mysterious woman, the mistalker, the stag, and the noxious. After you defeat one of those bosses, you will go on to chapter two in which you will randomly choose one of the chapter 2 bosses, the kraken, the scorpion, the eagles, or the great crab. And then once you have defeated uh chapter 2, you will go on to chapter three where you will where you will face the great boss Ma the empowered or mna the empowered and elite version.
Some of the earlier bosses also have elite versions and those if you want a little bit more difficulty. We have an elite version of the stag, an elite version of the mysterious woman, and an elite version of the eagles. And we also have three kind of special bosses. So, we have the necromancer, the tempest, and the crystal dragon.
So, in my first game, in the first chapter, I was lucky enough to defeat the mysterious woman. And so I need to set up chapter two. So I'm going to randomly choose one of the chapter 2 bosses here. One, two, three. Stop. So for chapter 2, we are going up against the giant crab. And so that'll be the boss that we have to defeat at the end of chapter 2.
So, in addition to the all of the random encounters and all of the adventures that you are that you are going on, I think this game is excellent at the character level. There are so many ways to build out your character and I could see playing this game many, many times with different character builds and having a pretty different time.
So, there are four different character classes that you can play as. We have the gnome here with some nice art. We have a mare folk and we also have the verdant kind of a a tree beard type person there. And each one of those different characters will be represented by a wooden mele. So I am playing as a shroom folk here, the shroomling.
So there is my little shroomling. I love that art for the shroomling. It's so cool. And on your character board, you will be keeping track of a number of different things. You will be keeping track of your experience. As you gain in experience, you can start exploring more dangerous territories. And you will also be unlocking abilities.
So, we will take a look at abilities a little later. And at the beginning, when you first hit level one, you will unlock a an occupation. And that is an additional way for your character to gain experience points. And we'll go over uh that in a bit. And then also on the character board, we have all of our all of our slots, all of our paper doll slots in order to put our gear in because there are a ton of cards that you can use to uh to to make your character more powerful, such as all of these weapons here.
So, this first deck of cards, these are all weapons and items and armor and and magic potions and things. And these are all available in the towns when you go to shop. And when you go to shop, you go into a town and you will uh turn to the traders and treasure uh little spiralbound book. And this tells you which items are available for trade at each of the major cities.
So we have Hammerfall Citadel, Silverleaf Glade, Seabour's Ranch, and the Enclave of the Unbound. But there's a lot more to this little book. You can do a little mining miniame. I haven't mined yet, but when you mine, you have a random chance to find all kinds of different things. You can visit the shimmering hollow.
When you go out gathering, you can find all kinds of random items. You can visit the blooming paradise. Uh when you find treasure in the game, you will roll a d10 and add a certain value that will be uh denoted in the adventure book. And then you look up that value on the treasure table to determine what treasure you have found.
when your character dies, when they go to zero HP, you have to go to the closest town and you have to go to the hospice or the hospital and have a little event there. Then we also have an icon index that has all of the icons that are used in the game. So again, you don't really need to reference the rule book once you have read it and understand the game.
Very, very cool. I love this little treasure uh traders and treasure book. But we also have a huge stack of numbered cards and these are all different items. Some of these numbers are duplicated and and when you're told to draw a card 50, you will take all the cards of numbered 50 and then you will draw one of those at random.
And so these are all things that are associated with different quests, more powerful items, spell books, different types of gear to equip your character with and all kinds of awesome things. And these when combined with all of the other things such as your class and your weapon and your armor and the different companions that you can unlock, you can also become some kind of werewolf or something.
And so there really is a lot going on at the character level. It's not super complex, but there is a lot of variety in how you build your character. Uh, right now I have this Vanguard belt which gives me a plus one to my maximum health and my main weapon here is a wand. Now, another interesting thing about this game is how it handles classes.
Your classes based off the weapon that you have. So, right now I have a wand. This wand at certain towns can also be upgraded. So, a lot of the gear can also be upgraded. That is super cool. When I uh selected the wand, when I received the wand, I was able to take [clears throat] one of the classes for a magician because that uh is corresponds to a wand weapon.
And then each of these class cards is double-sided. So, I could have been a priest or a magician. I chose to become the magician. That is in addition to I can always swap out the wand to go back to my original starting shroomling class in order to do combat with those dice. We'll go over combat a little later, but there are a whole bunch of different class cards.
All of them are double-sided depending on the weapon that you have equipped, and you can keep an unlimited number of weapons and armor and kind of your backpack. And you can swap out your load in order to trigger the abilities of different classes. So, you aren't stuck with one weapon and one class.
You know, I might want to use my wand in one combat, but then I might want to switch to a blow gun for another. And if I switch to a blow gun, I have that in my backpack. I just equip it and then I can take one of my blow gun classes. So, we have exotic weapons, blow guns, daggers, bows, swords, wands, stavs, axes, and hammers.
And again, you can also become some kind of lyanthrope where you can become a vampire. you can uh transform into a tiger form or also a werewolf. And that will also give you additional things that you can do. We also have slots for different companions. So, let's uh let me take out the companions here real quick.
So, when you come across a companion, we have this huge deck of companion cards here. And these are all different kinds of companions that you can equip on your character board. And these companions will also give you special abilities that you can mix and match. in order to make your character more powerful.
We also have this small deck of cards here, and these are all of the different professions. So, when your character first reaches level one, you will draw one of these at random, and uh this will be your character's uh profession for that game. You can be an alchemist, an ambassador, a trader, a medic, a tinkerer, a merchant, a pathfinder, an explorer, a fortune teller, herbalist, a hunter, and so on.
My character right now is a cgrapher. And so I gain additional XP and benefits such as uh some resources when I explore, and I'm looking to explore the entire map. And so that is my profession. We also have this deck of cards here, and these are world events. At certain times in the adventure book, you will be told to draw a random world event, and these will be things that you will lay out next to your map, and these will add further complications to the game.
These will be ongoing effects that you have to keep track of, and they might change combat. that they might change some of the enemies. They might uh change some of the ways that the factions interact. So, all kinds of ways that your game can change and will continue to change. And these stay up on the board for the entire campaign or you are told to remove them.
But we can the world can be infected with locust swarms or it can be at harvest season, a meteorites, magma rain, bad weather, a flood hazard, raging cobalts, hunting season, and so on. I think these are really cool. I like when an adventure game has a real sense of time and place, and it makes you feel like you are really kind of living in this world.
And those world cards are really, really good at doing that. You will also when you reach levels uh when you reach certain levels, certain thresholds on your experience track, you will also be able to unlock new abilities. And we have three decks of abilities. We have magical abilities. We have your kind of quick attack, your kind of rogue and thieve uh thieving abilities.
And we also have your kind of your strong attack or your warrior abilities. And each one of these is a different ability. When you level up, you can draw three in any combination. You can choose one to equip to your character. And so these will give you different ways to spin your dice in combat and when you are trying to overcome different challenges.
And so when you combine all three of these big decks with all of that gear and the abilities and the companions and your job and your class and your weapons and armor, the amount of build variety is really kind of just it it's great. There is so much build variety in this game and I can't wait to kind of just play it again to see what kind of a new build I can make.
So, right now I have a life extraction ability. So, we'll go over the abilities when we take a little closer look at combat, but uh right now I have set up the game for chapter 2. I have uh this world event going on right now. It's called war times. It's a world effect. Whenever you lose reputation, gain the same amount of another kind of reputation.
So there are four different factions and each of those factions is represented by a different city. When you start the game, you will choose a city to start in. So when I started my game at chapter 1, I started in Silver Leaf Glade here. Uh right now at the beginning of chapter 2, I'm at the Great Crossing.
That's where I fought the boss. And you will keep track of your reputation on your little character card here. And as your reputation grows with a city, with a faction, you will gain certain benefits. And if your reputation, if you get penalized for doing bad things or maybe going into combat against that faction, you can become outlawed and you won't be able to participate in the events in that city.
We can also keep track of our various adventures here. So, these are more kind of ongoing uh multi-step quests. For example, I have a code here of BW67. So that means when I go to the blighted woods, BW, I will turn to section 67 and read what happens on that quest. On your little uh mini map here, you will fill in and keep track of the different regions that you have explored.
You will keep track of the bosses, whether you have defeated the boss or you died at the boss. And then on the back here for saving your game, you can write the uh the code for all of the different cards that you have and you can put those back. You can also keep track of your stats. We have attributes here.
We have intellect, strength, agility, and fortune. And as those go up, as those get more powerful, you will unlock these little tokens. And these little tokens are additional extra abilities that you can slot in to items that have the little slot icon. And so you will be able to uh make your gear better by upgrading your intellect.
Maybe your magic will become more powerful or maybe you will unlock some kind of token for your strength and you can slot that into armor. And usually these will give you some way of either adding a d10 to your dice pool or manipulating the dice because there's a lot of dice manipulation in this game when it comes to combat.
Let's talk about combat real quick. So, we have three basic kinds of D10. And one of the things are going to change is the color of these dice. They're going to use different colors because the red and purple are pretty close here in the prototype. But we have our red d10s. Those are used for strength attacks.
We have our green d10s. Those are used for quick attacks. And we have our purple d10s, and those are used for magic attacks. And again, those will all correspond to those different abilities. And depending on what kind of weapon you have equipped. So right now I have this wand. And this wand when I attack it will attack with 3d10.
And so I have my 3d10 dice pool here. Now when I roll those I want to look at the numbers that I have on my class or my abilities and those will allow me to trigger certain types of damage or certain types of effects. So, with the wand, I am looking for a five, a one, or a 10. And the one and the 10 will allow me to manipulate dice to do good damage.
I'm looking for straits, either two in a row, three in a row, four in a row, or five in a row to do one, three, five, and seven, and seven damage. Or I can also roll an eight here for this life extraction where I do one damage, and I also heal one of my health points. That is super cool. The the combat in this game is fun.
There's lots of dice manipulation and as your character grows, you can do some really neat things by manipulating dice, rolling extra dice. You can manipulate the dice that the monsters have rolled, all kinds of cool things. It's really neat. We also have this D20. And this D20 is kind of the timer.
At the bottom here of the map, we have the doom track. And you will keep track of the doom level with a black cube here. And as that ticks up, as it gets towards the end of the track, that is when the boss has a chance of appearing. So once you reach this uh spot here, if you roll this symbol, then the boss appears.
When you reach these two squares, if you roll either of those symbols, the boss appears. When you reach this uh these last three squares, if you roll any of those three symbols, the boss appears. And so Doom is ticking up. And you as it as the as the timer kind of ticks up, Doom is growing and it will summon in the boss.
So, it's not a very strict timer. There's a little bit of randomness to the timer, but it does kind of keep you on your toes. It keeps you going. We also have a moon symbol here. And whenever the prophet of doom, that's the first player, that's the person in charge of keeping track of the doom. Whenever the prophet of doom rolls this moon symbol, then it's nighttime.
And when it's nighttime, regardless of where you are on the map, you will have an adventure during the nighttime section of the adventure book. We also have a D100. So, two D10s here. And these are used for rolling up random adventures when you go into a certain territory. Okay. So, right now, what was the boss I was fighting?
Uh, the giant crab. So, we can read the giant crab now or we can just wait until we trigger it. But this will have some information, a little bit of story, and then on the back here, you will have all of your stats for the giant crab. This game scales really well solo because if you're playing with one player, the giant crab has 14 health.
If you're playing with two, 29, 3, 44, and 459. This will tell you what the giant crab rolls, uh, what d10s they roll in combat. And then the values here will tell you what kind of damage they do to the heroes. Uh let's see what else do we need to take a look at before we do a couple of sample turns.
I think the last little uh the last little bits of components here are the different resources. And so we have plants here. These are roots and things that you can get to trade. We have fur or hide. We have bones. And we also have gold. And these are resources that you can use for when you go into town.
You can spend those resources to buy things. You can also trade those resources and sometimes you will have other uses for the resources depending on the adventure that you are on. So right now I have two gold. I'm at full health and I think I'm ready to play a couple sample turns. So the game the turn sequence is very simple.
The first player will roll the impending doom dice. Then each of the players will do the following. We have a travel phase. We can travel one location for free, but we might take some damage. The uh the traveling is kind of truncated. So each time you move into a different region, you might take some damage depending on the challenge level of that region.
And that kind of simulates an arduous journey. Uh maybe you know, you twisted your ankle trying to climb a mountain or something like that. And then you can also take additional damage to travel further. So your first travel you don't take any additional damage. If you travel again you will have to take one damage and then you can do that once more to take two damage and travel a long distance.
So once you've reached into a region if it's not explored if you haven't explored it yet and every player is exploring at their own level. Uh this is kind of a it's cooperative. you are working together, but each player is kind of having their own adventure until a world event such as a boss draws them all together in order to defeat the boss together.
But every time you go into a region where you haven't been, you will gain one XP and then you will shade in that region to remind yourself that you've already been there. And again, I want to try to do that as the cgrapher. I want to explore every single region on the map. Oh, I forgot one thing. There is also uh you can go out to sea.
You can hire a boat and go into the Sapphire Bay and you can have these nautical adventures. I always love nautical adventures in games. I love nautical fantasy. But after you have traveled, you will have your event phase. You will roll the d00. You will look up the corresponding section in the adventure book.
Depending on which territory you are in, you will roll the d00. look at that entry and then have a little adventure. However, if you have a quest and you're in that region, you can declare that instead of a random adventure, you are going to try to complete that quest. After that, you can trade. So, you can trade with other players who are in your region or in an adjacent region.
And you can also trade if you are in a town, you can go to the marketplace. And then we go to the resting phase. If you are out in the wilderness, you gain one health. If you're in a city, you gain three health. And during the nighttime, it's a little bit different because you will have nighttime encounters.
And that's basically the entire game. It's super simple and it is so much fun. So, let's see here. Uh, I want to travel. I do want to get to the blinded woods in or because I do have that quest there. But uh let's have a more simple adventure by just spending one to move into the Misty Meadows. Moving into the Misty Meadows.
I have already explored that. So I don't get XP, but I do still take the damage of one damage. So I will take my health down one. And now I am in the Misty Meadows. I don't have anything special to do. I don't have any quests in the Misty Meadows. So I just want to turn to the Misty Meadows section, which is on page 43 here.
And those are colorcoded with the banners up at the top. So, here we are in the Misty Meadows. So, the first time you go into a new region, you can read this little caption here. You don't have to read it each time, but I'll read it here. Uh, all along the plentiful footpath, you are surrounded by mist draped grasses, flowers, and herbs that are only occasionally interrupted by small groves of silver farmsteads.
Despite the foggy, somewhat gloomy atmosphere, the farmers speak proudly of the land, the crops they grow, and the animals that live here, and whose strong bones they shape into outstanding tools. A number of them, however, appear to grow weary whenever the conversation shifts to the seaborn, and their attempts to cultivate the largely untouched meadows.
So, that'll kind of give you a hint about some of the faction conflict that's going on in the game. Okay, so now we're at the event phase and let's go ahead and roll our event die. So we have 62. So now we will turn to 62. And this is just like drawing a card in Talisman or something like that or Runebound, but we will turn to prompt 62.
And this says trapped prey. At the side of the road, you see a vibrant oversized ladybug entangled in a sticky spiderweb, struggling to break free. Before you can help it, a huge spider emerges from the shadows. Hungry and eager to claim its trapped prey. Do you attack the spider and save the magical ladybug?
Or turn your back to the grueling site to look for pretty plants instead? I'm feeling heroic. Let's go ahead and choose option number one to attack the spider. Okay, option number one, attack the spider. So, now we go into combat. So, I will put uh this book here like that. that I'm in the Misty Meadows.
And all of the combat stats for the monsters are printed in the book. So, this uh spider has four health. So, we'll take a health cube here and we will place that on the four. They will attack with 4d10. I will grab 4d10 for the spider there. And if they roll a one or a two, they will do two points of damage.
If they roll a three or four, they will do one point or not poison. If they roll a three or a four, they will do one poison damage. Poison stacks, and anytime the heroes gain two hits of poison, they will take one point of damage at the beginning of each of their turns. And both of these slots can be used multiple times.
That's what the little ghost images of the d10 next to the main one uh represents. I have three purple d10 for my attack. And now we roll all of the dice together and ones or twos. We have a four, an eight, a seven, and a 10. So the spider completely missed. We don't have to worry about the spider. But the first thing in combat is for the players to take their turn.
So I'm using my wand and my life extraction. My wand, I'm looking for fives. I have a two, a 10, and a 10. So a five or an eight. Uh let's see. I don't think I can get that. I can use this 10 to lower this 10 to a nine, but that's not really going to help. I could use this to raise that to a three. Uh I don't think there's any way that I can get uh any type of damage out of this.
I am looking for straight. So, if I had a two or a three, I could use those to do one point of damage. And the straits here are listed on the wand. So, I think both of those attacks were just misses. If I had an eight, I could also do a point of damage, but I don't think there's any way I can get to any of those values.
Okay, so let's go to the next round of combat. And combat, you go round by round until you are defeated or the enemy is defeated. Okay, so we have an eight, a five, a three, and a six. Okay, so no ones or twos. We have one three. So they will they're going to do one point of poison to us. And now let's roll our dice here.
Okay, we have an eight, a six, and a 10. Okay, so this is good. So I can slot the eight in there. I can use that 10 to make that six a five. So I'm doing one point, two points of damage to the spider. So we'll knock that down to two. And I also heal for one, but I'm already completely healed up because I haven't taken any damage yet.
So that's how combat works. It's pretty cool. I like it. It's simple, but there's also some really fun dice manipulation. And once you start getting more abilities, once you start getting more abilities to augment those dice to change, to manipulate them, and you have a different abilities unlocked where you can slot in other dice, it does get really cool.
So, let's just say that we defeated the spider here. The now freed ladybug turns out to be no ordinary insect. Possessing magical powers and the intelligence of a much more highly developed species. It chooses to accompany you out of gratitude for your bravery and kindness. Gain card 21 and one XP. Okay, my XP is going to go up one.
I need two more experience points in order to unlock a new ability and then I can draw one of uh three ability cards in order to add that to my character. But I do also gain card 221. So that will be a companion. So, let me go to card 221 here and see what the ladybug is going to allow me to do. Uh, 200 221.
So, there are three different 221s. Let's mix those up. I will choose this one. And I have this ladybug now. So, she will go into one of my companion slots. You may add uh plus 10 to all of your event rolls. Okay, that's pretty interesting. To a max of 100 in the adventure book. The higher the uh the number you roll, the easier the encounter.
The low numbers are harder, the higher numbers are easier or or more beneficial. And sometimes you will roll over a 100 by adding different bonuses and those will lead you to like kind of super special events. Okay, so now it is the fourth phase and that is the resting phase. If I had any damage, I could uh heal up for one point, but I don't.
And uh so now we go next to the impending doom. I think I forgot to do the impending doom phase. I was talking about it and forgot to do it. So let me do the impending doom phase for this turn. Okay, so that will click up two. So that goes up to two. And now we have the impending doom for the third phase here.
And that goes up two again. And now we are at our travel phase. So, I will travel to the blighted woods. And now I can shade in that territory on my character sheet. But I also take two damage. Actually, I should have I probably should have taken one damage for exploring the Misty Woods. So, but I was already at full health.
I took a damage. I would have rested and gained a health. So, I'm good. I'm good. So, you always have to remember to take that damage when you explore. So, I took two damage for going into the uh blighted woods there. So, this is a level two area. And then because of my cgrapher, uh, I will also gain one experience for doing that.
And I also need to remember that right now I'm trying to explore all of the level two territories because those are open to me now. So, once I do that on my little mini map, then I will get an additional uh benefit. But I am in the blighted woods now. In the blighted woods, I do have a quest, and that quest is at uh spot 67.
And so instead of having a random adventure, I can just turn to blighted wood 67. So that will be on page 55 here. Okay. The lost little one. If you have adventure BW67, read that. Otherwise, continue. Okay. Adventure 67. So I was looking for a lost child. You soon find the scared child and help them get back to their parents.
Their parents live in Silverleaf Glade there. Um after a long hug, the parents turn to thank you for your invaluable help. gain any resource and two reputation with silver leaf. So now my reputation with silver leaf would get uh upgraded by two. So I would check that and then check that. Then I would become respected and that unlocks something when you become respected with a certain faction or city.
Then I can also gain any type of resource of the four different resources. I think I will take one of these green resources. Okay. So let's do a rest phase. So, I will gain one health and then let's do one more turn. Let's go and have an adventure in the town there. So, impending doom phase, I will roll a d20.
That will take up one. So, we're approaching the halfway point of this chapter. As you can see, the game plays it very, very quickly, especially solo, especially if you don't have to talk about what you're doing. I will move into silver leaf glade. That does not cause me any damage to move into a ter into a city.
And so now we will have our encounter phase in a city. And uh the encounters in the cities can often lead to other quests. And so I am in silverleaf glade which is 170. Okay. And then I do have my ladybug. So I get to add 10 to this roll here. And 53. So we will do 63 here in silver leaf blade. Let's go to 63.
Okay. A heroic mission. Oh, cool. The Silver Leaves elders summon you to their chambers. Mirristica, the eldest shroomling of the glade, tells you of a terrifying monster threatening the natural order and ask you to defeat it. Roll a d10 on the table uh corresponding to your level. So I am at level two.
Okay. So let's go ahead almost to level three. So I'm at level two. So we will roll a d10 and nine. Okay. So, I'm at level two and we rolled a nine and I believe that this is a mistake here. There are some errors in uh this book here and they are going through and correcting them. I let them know of a couple things.
So, this is 1 to three and four to six. I'm not sure what happens if you roll a nine, but I'm sure that it's supposed to be this uh second prompt here. Hopefully, the designer can chime in. But, uh this is the terrors in the forest become ever more horrible. Some of our gatherers have encountered an abomination stitched from the corpses of animals and now refuse to head back out into the wild, gain adventure BW52.
Okay, so I need to go back to the blighted wood. So I would write BW52 on my adventure sheet. And for an additional reward, when I complete that, I will gain one experience and uh two to this town's reputation. And so I would write that on my additional rewards section there on my character sheet. And so that's basically how the game plays.
It is super simple. The turn sequence is simple. Combat is pretty fast. It's fun because of all that dice manipulation. I love exploring this world. I think it's interesting. I like that there is an ongoing kind of big story. Each of the territories has its own corresponding random encounter. So, this whole book here is just like a massive collection of random encounter cards, and I love it.
Um, I like how quickly each chapter plays. You can play through solo. You can easily get through a full chapter in like 45 minutes. So, you could have a complete three uh act game in like 2 and 1/2 hours or so. Super super cool. I love it. I especially love the game at the character level, building out your character, getting new weapons to unlock different classes, uh, unlocking all of these different abilities that allow you to do different things with the dice in your dice pool.
I like how the bosses are randomized and so you can have a very different games by choosing, you know, choosing different bosses that you want to fight against. Yeah, there's a lot going on in this game. a lot of randomness, a lot of great adventure, a lot of good character building. I think the writing is pretty good.
They do need to iron out some of those mistakes in the adventure book. And they are telling me that they're going to go through like two or three, four more passes on that adventure book to make sure everything is ironed out. I think I've found two so far. And I played the the first full uh chapter, I found one mistake, and I think I just found another mistake because that that uh the value I rolled wasn't in there.
But it's, you know, it's pretty easy to to kind of figure out what they meant to do. But all of these gear cards and the different items you can find and the different companions. Um, yeah, there is a whole heck of a lot to love about Restless. I'm super super excited to see how well the game turns out once it's finished.
Again, this is just a prototype, but already I think it's in a really good place. Uh, I don't think they're going to go for a whole bunch of Kickstarter bloat. The box is a nice normal size. I haven't seen any advertisements for any miniatures or anything. So, everything will be really compact and fit in that box.
It'll fit on your shelf nicely, just like a normal size box, not one of those giant uh Kickstarter games that takes up an entire, you know, three shelves on on your on your game collection. It's fairly simple. all of the things you need are on all of these aid cards. And hey, that might be true. That might be true that once you read the rule book once and you understand the game, you can just throw it away.
But I wouldn't recommend that. But uh the uh the crowdfund is supposed to hit I believe November 11th. So check it out. And I am super super excited for Restless. This game ticks off a lot of boxes of games that I look for and it is a lot of fun. We'll talk to you later. Bye-bye.
