Rotation Rumble | Unboxing - A Pocket-Sized Card Brawler

Sir Thecos Jul 9, 2026
Transcript 23:09

Now, look at this raccoon. I love him. He's adorable.

Hey, everyone. This is Zedarus. Today, I'm unboxing Rotation Rumble for you. Um this is a very cool project that I backed on Kickstarter and it finally arrived yesterday. Well, as of uh recording this video at least. Um and yeah, I'm looking forward to show this to you. But, before we get started, as usual, grab yourself a cup of tea and let's do this. All right. There we go. Yeah, I just wanted to give you a quick unboxing to show you what this is. So, essentially, this is a dual card game, but there also is a solo mode. So, we'll also be taking a look at that. Um and I really like the idea of this, so I went all in on the Kickstarter. A short disclaimer um right at the beginning here. Um the Kickstarter rewards are still being shipped out at the moment. They should be done quite soon. Maybe as of publishing this video, when you watch this, uh this has already been done and then it should be possible to get more to get like a copy [clears throat] yourself, but there are also print and play versions you can have. So, in case like this doesn't work out for you regarding shipping or you want to print it yourself, there are options for that.

And it's like very simple, you will take a look at that uh in a moment, but there aren't a whole lot of cards you actually need to print for like the decks. All right, so what is Rotation Rumble? Well, this is published by Bevelicious Games and designed by Robin Metze, a fellow a fellow German uh game designer, and um essentially, you have like these little uh cartridges that uh like look like these Gameboy cartridges and there always is like a set of two decks in here. And this is every and and also you have like four dice and three of these tokens. And this is all you need in order to play a two-player dual game of Rotation Rumble. Um what I did, I went all in. That means like there are like eight of these cartridges here, as you can see. And we will take a look at those in just a moment. Um and uh you can also mix and match them, right? So you could also take like a deck from Tails and Tussle from that set and play with the deck of Bones and Bones. And what you can then also do to top it off, you could also like construct your own decks. I'm not sure if I would do that. There are like 16 decks here I can explore and I think I'll be fine with that for now. All right, so let's take a look at what we have here. We have some special stuff here. We'll take a look at that in just a moment. There's also the solo deck here. So for those of you who are interested in that, we will be taking a look at that. And these are like the different decks. Let's take a look at one of them. For example, here. Let us take this one with the raccoon, actually.

One of my most favorite animals. Not my favorite, but one of my favorites. Trash and Tiara. So the how this works is you just push this in and open this up just like um just like any Game Boy cartridge if any of you are old enough as old as me to remember. Um very nice very nice artwork. And then we should turn this over you already have like the the victory point tracker, so to speak. And there's also key off for the rules because this game is like extremely compact because really everything you need to play is just one of these cartridges. And since they're made from plastic and not from any deck box, you can just throw them into any bag whatever and just take them with you, which is really really cool. I like that because this like doesn't get like damaged a whole lot. Um exactly. Um here's like all the tracker. Um and then here in here it's like very very cute because here are all like the tokens and the dice that you need.

Uh oops, there's one. And then you have like the two decks here. Um so let me see if I can find it here. So here for example, we would have Lorana and Noodle as the decks. Um and so these are like the captain cards they're called. You put those No, wait. That's not the captain card. Met Lorana and Met. These are the two captains. Uh look at this raccoon. I love him. He's adorable. Um so both would like have like the captain card here. Uh, they just like have like a gold tracker and they have like specific ability for that specific deck. And then here you have the uh, the deck. You just shuffle that up and then you draw a few cards and then you can play them into like three lanes. And like the I don't want to like give it like a complete overview over the game. I would do that like uh, when I have learned the game actually. But from what I've known so far, um, you have like these three lanes here. No, wait.

Uh, you need like a fighter for that. You have like these three lanes here. Um, at the end and then you can like either you can uh, like exchange them with other fighters any on your hand or you can like rotate them and then you always like activate whatever is down here at the bottom, right? You can always rotate them left and right unless they are like arrows. This deck doesn't have any arrows. Um, there are but there are also like other cards you can play like flash cards. Uh, these cards you can play like at any time, I think. You have like item cards you can attach to your fighters. And then uh, you just take turns like player one and player two. Both like do something with their cards. And then you have like always the attack phase but like you attack each other. Um, but these like the cool thing is there like loads of interesting things in this game because these uh, the cards are never defeated. You can like exchange them yourself but essentially this all goes via victory points here. You have like this victory point tracker and then it always is like it's like a tug of war. Um, like if I get like four victory points then I go here. If like the other person gets a few then it goes back, things like that.

So, very interesting actually. So, um, this is everything you need. This really uh, short deck and this really small deck and I think I'm pretty sure at least that this game like plays really fast as well. Um, look at this. Like here we have like colors uh, green and gray and we also have green and gray here as the colors. I guess like you always need like uh, the same colors here. Um, I think there aren't that many colors in here. I think there are like four, five or six different colors. So, if If have like a captain with red and blue, you should like build your deck with red and blue cards. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Really cool. I like the artwork a lot. Really cool artwork, very simplistic, but I really like it. It's like really like also like the the the font is very easy to read. Well, it's like pretty large.

That's That's very good because it's a very small game and you need to see it like across the table. Although, you only have like this small area you play in. But, very cool actually. And then just put this back in here. Uh we put the dice in here and this all fits like really well. Look at this. Really nice. Uh this like fits perfectly. I wonder if Robin designed the game first and then looked for a way of storing and taking this with you. Um or if he saw this game board cards and said like, "Oh, I have this idea for this card game. Let's see if I can like how I can design it so it fits in here." I have no idea. I don't have to ask him. Oh, Robin, if you see this video, let me know in the comments. Um but yeah, very cool. And then we have more decks. Here we have Bolts and Bones. Let's not take a look at the decks completely, but what we can do is take a look at the captains. So, here for Bolts and Bones, we have Bungee, like the skeleton ghost kind of thing.

Like maybe like a banshee or something. Uh as it's Bungee, it's supposed to be banshee, I guess. And then here we have Tomoe Oni. Mhm, okay. Very cool. And you see that these have like green and gray and I think like the panda, wasn't he like green and gray as well? And here red and blue. So, these are like red and blue cards again. like build your deck with that in case you really want to build your own decks, but I don't know if I want to do that. I do that very rarely in games. If there are preset decks, I usually use preset decks. Um because most of the time games have like enough enough good preset decks uh so that you don't actually need uh to build some of your own. Because I wouldn't even know how to store this, to be honest, if I said like I'm I'm to construct my own decks.

Because one thing that I haven't seen yet, let me just check here. One thing I haven't seen yet is a way to see like like I don't know if this card how do I sure know that this card belongs to Sir Merkur Mercury Merkur I don't know how to pronounce him. I probably wouldn't know, right? Ah, wait these are all orange. No, these are all orange. Everything's orange. I don't know. I don't know how I would know. Um I'm going to have to ask Robin about that as well, because if I like can do like mix and match decks, then I would like would need to find a way to like reset them to their original ones, but I don't know. So, here we have Sir Merkur and Bam Duel. And they have like always have like these abilities here. Whenever knight or dragon you control wins a rumble gain one victory point. So, you actually would want to have knights and dragons in your decks. There are of course some here, right? Because that's the preset deck, but you always like if you wanted to construct this yourself, you would have to like put like dragons and knights in your deck.

Uh very cool. Bows and blades. Okay. Nice. And this really like looks well. You can like easily put this in here again. This is like this is designed very well from a component standpoint. And I have read the rules already. The game also looks like really good there. Okay. Goblins and glaciers. Okay. We have like some ice theme here. And on the back you always have like these uh these dragons. Okay, let's see who which character which captains we have in here. Oh. Come on. Go on there. We have uh Dangsy. Okay. Whenever he is switch a fighter of type goblin. Okay, this is a goblin goblin focused deck. Yeah. See like these goblins. And these like these fighters also have like all these are all unique and they also have like all uh names. Like Scorn evil little rascal.

Norks having bad breath. And Mine Lurker living in cold and dirt. Very very Yeah, this is cute. I love this. And also we have Zamora in here. This reminds me of some other name. Whenever player discards an item, you may attach it to a fighter without paying for it. Oh, interesting. Okay. Boom. Oh, yeah. These I imagine I had I I remember I had such a card in magic as well and also in Ashes of Aethelred. This always like there's always a card to like destroy all fighters on the on the field or at least here in a lane. Okay, very cool. Let's take a look at the last four decks as well and then I will show you like some promo and solo stuff. Um of course you can always like forward a little bit if you don't want to see like the captains here.

So, these are all the same colors, right? Looks like it. Okay, so oops. So, what do we have here? Here we have Oh, this is clubs and critters. I don't see any critters here, but let's see. Moxuthul, choose two animal. Oh, there's like an animal kind of guy. Okay, we have like Brenter here, the sky's the limit, Sheek Rob. This is not an animal. This is definitely a guy.

Okay, very cool. Yeah, nice. Nafield. Are you Are you kidding me? Yeah, okay. Good. Well done. Slinky. Oh, I love this one. I think I saw that on the campaign someplace. And then we have No, wait. And then we have Umberto. Uh he like works with equipment a lot, I guess. Yeah. Uh yeah, actually yeah, he has like iron helmet, mace, spear, tacker, which is like a German word, by the way. Okay, very cool. So, let me put those in here. See, you just put them in the top edge, then you put them in like this, easy. You put this here on top. Oh, even easier you can put just put this in here like this in the top and then close it.

Easy. This is really good. Like the the the component design here is excellent. The cards will show a little bit wear of wear at some point. I would love to sleeve them, but they don't then they don't fit in here anymore. Hey, come on. What's happening? Oh, what am I doing? There we go. I don't know what just happened. Owls and horrors. Is this like or is it a horror nun kind of thing? Okay. We have the maniac here which kind of which kind of looks like Jason, right? Just different colored mask, I guess. Double the attack of any fighter in your middle lane. Half the attack of his adjacent fighters. Oh, interesting. Oh, okay. I don't know. Are these mandatory? These things I guess I guess they're mandatory. Um and then we have system may. Whenever you recycle a fighter, add its attack and defense to a fighter of your choice until the end of the turn. Okay.

Banshee.

Bleeding. Oh, wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Not all cards are unique. We saw this in Wasn't it in this deck here? Oh, okay. So, they're not a 100% unique, I guess. Interesting. Okay. Now, the deck construction thing makes even more sense. I thought these were all unique. Okay, so you go in here. All right. Two more decks to take a look at. Sakura and Shuriken. Well, we do have a Japanese theme here. Um so, we have Kogoro. Kogoro. Kogoro. Oh, wait. Okay, there's like the ninja kind of guy, I guess. And then we have the lady is Sonoko. Okay. Reveal the top card of your opponent's deck. You may pay four coins and draw this card instead.

Hm. You can just like like mill the deck of your opponent. There are like different ways to win this game. One of them is you get like 12 points here, right? You win the tug of war up at the 12 points. I guess that is very hard to do. Or uh the other way to win is to have the most points when one of the decks is depleted. Um so you could just mill the opponent's deck, try to find a way to get easy points, and that's it, right? All right, last deck before we will take a look at the interesting promo and solo stuff. Um Come on. What's happening here? Okay, there we go. Okay, Tails and Tussle. So, these are the rules here again as usual, so let's see. In here we have Oh, come on, come on. Oops, there we go. We have Servivor.

Okay, I like that's like the switching thing again, but not knight and dragon. He has knight and rogue. Okay. But it's kind of similar to the other knight that we had, and serenity. Choose a fighter until end of turn, this fighter's attack is equal to his defense value. Oh, that is really good. Okay, very nice. And this is like pretty much like what you get. So, um as I said, you can um like I don't know if you can get the print and play at the moment, but at the latest when like all of the uh all of the Kickstarter fulfillment is done, you will be able to get these decks again, and they you can get them in physical form. I guess you can get them then again, but you can also like get a print and play, right? Um I think also after the Kickstarter because Robin wants to make sure that all Kickstarter backers Because Robin wants to make sure that all Kickstarter backers actually get their um get their stuff first, which I can appreciate. All right, so now we have a few things here that are interesting. We have the solo deck here, um and then we have like a few promos for the Kickstarter. I don't know if you can get the promo things after the Kickstarter. I don't know. But you should be able to get the solo deck, I'm pretty sure.

So, the solo deck, um I haven't played it yet, but um I kind of know how it works. So, essentially, how this works is quite clever, actually. Um there's also a 10-card deck here. Um you have a captain card. It says like villain here, and villain means like this is like one of the solo decks you play against. And there are like specific rules how this how this deck plays, and like the like the these always get rotated and switched out. There are like specific um uh rules that make the um the opponent do that, but essentially this game is exactly the same otherwise, right? You try to win against the villain, either have the most points when one of the decks is depleted, or have 12 the first uh with 12 points. And I think I've read in the rules here there's also this rage meter. He like gets stronger as he collects more rage. Uh this is like a mechanism just for this villain here.

And like when he reaches like 20 rage, you also lose. So there's one more loss condition actually. So yeah, this solo with an X. I don't know how to pronounce that. And whenever you switch a villain, gain one. All villains gain plus one plus one. Ooh, this is very strong. After 10 rage points, right? Yeah. He gets gets plus one plus one. And these are like all tentacles, it looks like. He can take it all. He got damn characters. Then famous Octoblock, Bruce, Bruce Calamari Calamari. Nah. Uh Squid of Sherwood. Okay, very that's very funny. Tentacles from a good family. Okay, that's that's very funny. Arg Abracadabra. Okay. Very nice. This is like how this solo deck works. Um and the cool thing is you just use that as your opponent, and you could use any other deck to play against it. So it still makes sense.

That's why I went all in because I thought like, you know what? It's a very nice card game for two players. I can just throw one of those in my bag, and that's it, or two or three. However many I want to take with me. But also, I have so many decks I can play against this one deck. I just hope there will be more um I would just hope there will be more villain decks in the future. I really hope so. So, and now we have promo decks here. Um this one here is uh Mr. Bones. Is this the Indies deck? Uh yeah, this is the Indies deck. So, um this is the Indies promo deck. This is the captain, Mr. Bones, and um these are fighters here. These are all um these are all modeled after other indie board and card games. Um and I should know all of them, but I actually I'm not sure.

I'm actually not sure which games these are from, but I will have to research that. It doesn't say anywhere. No, no, it doesn't. But, these are like uh homages, so to speak, to other Indies uh board and card games, as far as I know, at least. Um and then we have three more promos. We have like two more decks in here. Come on, let me just open this up. And you see there's no cover here because these are just like single promo decks. These are not like these sets. Because these sets are pretty much like balanced to play like uh against one another. Um thematically, they also fit. We have like these horrors here. We have like this Japanese one. We have this knight fantasy kind of thing. Um so, it all kind of makes sense. Um this one here is Let me just get both of these uh out of here. Um and this one here is the medieval disease deck.

And this is the curse of the Mothman. So, we have Ooze Finger here. And I guess he will like work with poison. There's like a tox- not poison, but there's like a toxic um mechanism in here. And I guess they will they work with toxic, yeah. There's all like toxic here. There's like damage that cannot be defended against. Okay. Very interesting. Yeah, this is like the medieval disease deck. Um and here we have the curse of the Mothman, I think it's called, this deck here. Somber.

Okay, very cool. Mortimer. It's just like just Mortimer. Okay, yeah, sure. Helmut. Okay. Okay, cool. Very nice. And one thing I I find kind of interesting is that here we no tokens, we only have dice. I don't quite know why that is. I might have to ask Robin that. I'm not quite sure. So, let's put these two promo decks in here as well. This is a much longer unboxing than I thought it would be. So, and then the last promo thing we have is this here. Um these are uh Oh, let me just get this out of here. These are um these are alternative um captain arts um for like all of the captains, right? So, here she is the match for example, right? That was the raccoon.

Um that was the raccoon that we uh saw here. Uh where was it? Where was it? Right here, right? That was the raccoon. That's a just a different captain art. It's like the same captain, just different art. I don't know if they fit in there, but it might make sense for me to actually take all of these and put them in where they belong, right? And these are like all made by different designers, but I don't think they are mentioned on here. Yeah, but these are like all made I think by different designers. So, whatever. Um this is like the maniac guy that we saw. Um very interesting. They are definitely harder to read here, right? But they are pretty cool. I like these designs, so I might want to see if um like two more cards fit in each box. If so, then that would be kind of cool. Um and also another promo thing here is you might know uh the one card maze series. I have shown that off on the channel. If you don't know it yet, uh feel free to check out my video. Um and this one is like a one card maze. I don't know what this is.

This is like an extra point cards, I guess. And this one here, a traitor. This is like a different captain that we can use. Oh, that's right. This is here. It's just a different captain you can use. And but it's also one card maze. Um this is like you start here, and then you can um like kind of go around here and see that you try to solve this maze and go to the very end. It's a one card maze. Um just check out the video on my channel. You kind of know how this works. But, it's kind of cool that they included this here as well as well. So, yeah. And that pretty much like concludes my unboxing of Rotational Rumble. Um I went into a lot of detail here, but I'm very very excited about this game because I think like this takes a lot of boxes. Now, I just have to hope that I like the gameplay as well. But, I really enjoy um like this small format. This is amazing. This is like a really good idea.

Um and uh also you do have a solo mode here. So, if I want to play solo, I can just take this one deck box with me there's a deck in here. But, I could also just take this one and say uh I want to take I don't know, here. I want to try some tiaras with your raccoon, of course. I want to take these two with me. Take almost no room at all, right? And I have three decks I can play against this villain deck. Really cool. Really cool idea. I like this a lot. Um so, I have loads to discover here. Um really looking forward to checking all of this out. All right. Now, it's your turn. Let me know in the comments if you already if you also have backed this if you if if you have received it. Or maybe I mean the the play has been out for a while. I just didn't didn't have the time to like assemble and test it. But, let me know if you have already played the game. And I would like to know like how you like it. All right. Well, and that concludes my unboxing of Rotational Rumble and our first look at it. I hope you enjoyed this video and thank you so much for staying till the very end.
