The Great Harbor - Dice drafting and worker placement goodness.
hello graduates it's Stella from mle University and this is Stella's short and sweet preview for the great Harbor from aona [Music] games welcome to the great H Fox where you will find Opportunities For A New Life a new job and possibly a new appreciation for why paying taxes is actually good this bus Ling Port of cage is the place to be where nothing's impossible I'm Stella Magna the great star one of the governors here the best one obviously my fellow Governors might disagree but they're wrong join me as we shape the Roman Empire build a thriving economy construct epic ships and fend of those pesy pirats who just won't take no for an answer I will join uh will I get paid ha oh that's adorable listen malas wasn't it this is the Roman Empire you get paid in The Prestige of serving the Empire the satisfaction of hard work on the waterfront the thrill of seeing your Governor succeed this is an unpaid internship isn't it the game plays two to four players with mechanics such as dice drafting work a placement and engine building the game is of medium to heavy complexity just enough to make your brain melt a little in the great Harbor you're one of the great Roman governors building the city economy by constructing buildings employing the right people hopefully that includes MERS building ships and trading goods for Prestige points all your resources and cards gaining are triggered by dice worker placement the game goes for six rounds with two turns each at the start of each turn roll two dice per player plus one then from the start player everyone drafts one die one player at a time till one die left the player with the lowest pip total then places first that player places both their D to gain resources then with all the resources they have do as many actions they want or can afford before play passes to the next player who does the same once all players are done it's Voyage phase where you send your ships on a trade Mission into pirate infested waters good luck with that hope you can trade instead of having your ship damaged and coming home empty-handed like a sad board gamer that just had that game night cancel a then at the end of second turn round ends all dies are gathered back emptying all the worker placement space over the two turns cry over bad decisions and move on with your life I mean to the next round you can only place your dce on empty matching colored spaces you gain the resources depending the number of Pips on your Di and you can split the Pips for two adjacent tiles the higher the dice beeps the better the rewards for example six Pips of red or yellow dye it gets you three wood for the five Pips and one metal for the one pip or three Pips for two wood and three Pips for two metals and so on or put the dice on the edge spaces you just activate one adjacent toe but it will block that toe making all future dies Place their weaker a few other resources you can gain are ship cards colonists building and people cards so what can you do with the actions hope you have enough resources to do lots of them you can build buildings from the cards you've gained or ones on your player boards you know there are rewards if you work hard you might get to work on a ship or an insulet or even in a dog hat a Hut yes in other words tiny overpriced apartment but in Prime Harbor real estate with beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea the soothing standand of friendly seag hey come back it's a limited time offer I need to commission to pay off my Chariot there are a variety of building cards that will help your game and once on your player board they'll make certain actions more powerful and provide endgame prestige like the inul let you produce luxury goods for trade if you activate with a colonist dog Hearts will repair your ship from Pirate attack Market Square lets you trade two of your resources for one other and so on pay the cost and your building is constructed the people you recruit goes straight to play maximum three or six if you build all your insulet but they need to be active ated manually by putting your activation marker on them and you need to spend favor tokens to remove the activation marker manual labor indeed they could give you advantages though in combat adding Pips to your dice and so on building ships works like constructing building pay the cost and put in your dock you can build up to three ships of any size if you can afford it each each ship has its attack strength speed Health points and capacity and you can assign a colonist permanently to the ship to improve one of the stats all right so what exactly do I do here glad you ask you were a prize fighter so you he to fight the Pirates and if you make one wrong move we could fail to deliver the thre good collapse the economy anger desonate and end up at the bottom of of the harbor but no pressure wait what just try not to get planted okay you know I could have been a contender as an action decide if you want to send your ships to trade and once all players finish their turn Voyage phase begins refal a pirate card to determine enemy strength if your ship's attack power matches or exceeds the pirate's strength you win and can continue sailing forward for greater Rewards or stop there to trade gain the coins and Prestige and turn around if you lose you get damage and turn round pirate attacks accumulate as you advance is risk versus reward after you turn around your ships have to sell back before being deployed again how long that takes depends on the speed of your ships game then goes to the next turn around after six rounds or 12 T game ends the player with the most prestige collected plus coins building on player boards wins and becomes the ultimate Roman Governor what a city to run some tough choices to be made not to mention grumpy employee actions are stronger with higher pip di but if you start later the space might get blocked by other dyes there are some D spaces on the edge of the TOs less flexible to gain resources but serve a second strategic purpose put your dce there and all future dies on that tile are reduced by that many Pips play it right and you could block out their resource for everybody for the rest of the round you also have tracks for each color of buildings people and ships you've built or recruited will give you resources and even Prestige and each Governor will gain extra Prestige with certain pairs of colors built so fellow wannabe Governors this job is not for the fainthearted do you accept the challenge to make the Roman Empire great so thanks for watching folks check out the great Harbor project page I'll put the link in the description below the components featured in this video are prototype so rules and outwork
