Dixit: Disney Edition - How To Play
[Music] hi and welcome to watch it played my name is Rodney Smith and in this video we're going to learn the three to six player game Dixit Disney Edition designed by Jean-Louis Robia and published by libelude who helps sponsor this video here players will take turns sharing mysterious riddles in an effort to earn points by giving clues that are good but as we'll see not too good Dixon is an incredibly popular game and I have the Disney themed edition of it here this is the original set and it follows the same rules so no matter which version you have join me at the table and let's learn how to play we'll be using the Disney Edition in this video and to set up you put its game board in the center of the play area then each person takes one of these character pawns and the related voting dial in this video we'll assume we have four players and return any extras back to the Box each player now sets their Pawn onto this bottom Cloud space of the board word you then shuffle all the included Cards into a face down deck and deal six cards to each player you can always look at your own cards but keep them a secret from the other players and that's the setup now there are slightly different rules for a three-player game but we'll cover those at the end of this video in Dixit players will take turns being the Storyteller who will create a riddle that the other players need to solve points will then be awarded based on the solutions that players come up with be the first to earn 30 points and you win the game is played over a series of rounds and whichever player is ready to be the Storyteller takes on that role for the first round the Storyteller examines their cards and secretly picks one and without showing it to anyone puts it face down in front of themselves they then announce a clue the clue could be one word or a sentence of as many words as they like it could even be sung hummed or mimed and we'll learn why you might want to pick certain Clues later but for now let's say I'm the Storyteller This Is My Chosen card and I've announced that my clue is almost there each other player now looks at their own hand of cards and let's say these are yours you now try to find one of them that reminds you of the clue that was just shared the clue was the phrase almost there so as we look at the different options maybe this one the cat is crossing the wire and is almost to the other side maybe that can make someone think of the phrase almost there right so let's say that you pick this one you don't reveal your card instead each player passes is theirs face down to the Storyteller who shuffles them all together along with their chosen kurd so that no one knows which card was handed in by which player and to help with this I like to ensure that the backs of the cards are all facing the same way they then place the cards face up one at a time beside the numbered spaces of the board starting at the lowest value and going up so it looks something like this when you're done no one is allowed to give any indication about which face up card is theirs and you shouldn't react to any of the cards you see because well if for example you saw one of the cards and said wow that's a weird one that would give an indication to everyone that that card probably wasn't yours and that's not information that they should have yet because every player except the Storyteller now secretly tries to guess which of the displayed cards was originally chosen by the Storyteller based on their given clue in this case of almost there here are the four cards I've just arranged them in a row so we can examine them easier this one we know is yours so it can't be that one so which of the others makes you think of the phrase almost there several might but maybe you decide on this one every player privately turns the wheel of their voting dial to the number of the car they believe is the storytellers you thought it was this one so you'd rotate to the number three but this is also kept secret don't show anyone your selection yet and keep in mind you can never set your own dial to the value of your card on the table now once everyone has made their selection everyone reveals their dials and then places them by the cards that they're set to here two of the players voted for card three and another voted for card one the Storyteller now reveals which was theirs and in this case they announced that it was this one the one that you'd picked points are now scored based on the outcome if some but not all of the players guessed correctly the Storyteller gains three points anytime a player earns points they move their marker forward on this track the related number of spaces any players who voted for the storytellers card are also earn three points so both of these players in this case any player who guessed incorrectly scores nothing however as a bonus any player not counting the Storyteller who had a vote assigned to their card now earns one point for each so in this case you had one vote so you'd earn one extra point so that's one way the results might be scored however things are slightly different if either all or none of the players voted for the storyteller's card in both of those cases the Storyteller earns no points and each other player no matter which card they picked earn two points each and again players other than the Storyteller will also earn a bonus point for each vote that was given for their current so as an example let's say instead the votes had gone like this no one voted for the storyteller's card so the Storyteller earns no points everyone else earns two not only that you had two votes on your cards you'd gain two bonus points and the person who played this card also earned one vote so they'd earn one bonus point so as the Storyteller think of it this way you want to give a good enough clue so that some people get it but not so good that everyone gets it or so confusing that no one gets it and as the other players you want to guess the storyteller's card but also hope that some people might pick the card that you put into the mix so that you can earn some bonus points as a reminder of how scoring works you can refer to these symbols on the board as the Storyteller if everyone guesses your clue you gain no points if some guess your clue but others don't you gain three points represented by these Cloud symbols if no one guesses your clue you gain no points for everyone else if you all guess correctly you all gain two points if some of you guessed correctly and some of you don't those who did gain three points those who didn't earn nothing if you all guest incorrectly you all gain two points and as it shows here you always gain one point for every vote your card received when you weren't the Storyteller after the scoring for that round is done everyone takes back their voting dials and you gather up all the cards that were by the board and add them to a shared face up discard pile then you deal one card from the deck to every player so that everyone has six cards in hand again if you ever run out of cards to draw just Shuffle the discard pile into a new deck and then continue drawing as required either way the player seated to the left of the last Storyteller becomes the new Storyteller and a new round begins and rounds will continue until the end of a round where one or more players has reached or passed 30 points once that happens those players are declared the winner if you have a game with exactly three players the rules are a little different so let's go over those together now first off during the setup each player there is dealt seven cards instead of six the Storyteller will still pick one card as usual from their hand but the other players will pick two cards each from their hands to put into a shared pile of five that will get mixed together and then spread around the board the rules otherwise remain the same as usual and any non-story telling player who gets a vote no matter which of their cards was picked earns a bonus point for each vote as normal at the end of a round the Storyteller will draw one card and each other player draws two so that everyone is holding seven cards and then a new round begins if you have the Disney and original set of Dixit or any of the separate expansion packs that can be picked up their cards can all be mixed and matched as you like for even more variety but otherwise that's everything you need to know to play Dixon if you have any questions at all but anything you saw here
