Marvel: Remix - How To Play
[Music] hi and welcome to watch it played my name is rodney smith and in this video we're going to learn the 2-6 player marvel remix designed by bruce glasgow and published by wizkids who helped sponsor this video based on the popular fantasy realm game system here you'll be taking on infamous villains by creating the best possible team up of marvel heroes but the other players will be trying to do the same thing so join me at the table and let's learn how to play to set up find the remix cards which have this back and villain cards with this back then shuffle both of them separately into face down piles within reach of all the players you then deal one villain and six remix cards to each of the players and in this video we'll assume that we have two players you can always examine your own cards but keep them a secret from the other players and that's the setup in marvel remix players will add and remove cards from their hand in order to end up holding the combination of cards that they believe will earn them the most points by the end of the game but before we get to the main rules i think it would help to take a quick tour of what the cards look like the cards in the remix deck are divided into six different types as shown in their top left corners you'll find heroes allies locations conditions equipment and maneuvers in the villain deck you have the final type of card it's the only type found in that deck villains at the end of the game you must be holding at least one hero or ally and at least one villain otherwise no matter what you're holding your final score will be zero in addition to their type each card has a base power value in this area which are points you'll usually get to add to your final score if the card is in your hand at the end of the game most cards also have symbols along their left side known as tags these won't provide points on their own but as we'll see later certain effects might give you points for the types of tags you're holding in your hand most cards will also provide some kind of bonus effect at the bottom based on the other cards that you're also holding and we'll learn how to interpret these bonuses later but as a quick example if you were holding these two cards wolverines says that you gain six points if you also have a villain showing this tag which we see here on bear and zemo so in a case like this we would gain these six bonus points from wolverine all bonuses on your cards are considered active if their conditions are fulfilled unless they say otherwise but they only affect the cards that you have in other words bonuses on your cards do not affect cards in another player's hand and vice versa if you ever draw a card with two heroes pictured on it like we see with hulk here you should place it into your hand so that its transform with text is in the bottom left-hand corner okay with that understood let's get into the main rules the game is played over a series of turns starting with someone chosen randomly and then going clockwise around and around the table and on your turn you can choose to do one of three possible things one option is to draw the top card of the remix deck adding it to your hand and then you must discard any one card you're holding you could even discard a villain or the remix card you just drew anytime something is discarded you add it face up to a shared discard area within reach of all the players and as more are added here over the course of the game they should be spread out so that they're all clearly visible alright we now know that drawing a card from the remix deck is one option you have on your turn next let's look at another one you may instead choose to draw the top card or the villain deck and then you discard any one card from your hand and again this really can be any one of the cards you're now holding including the one you just drew with that understood now let's look at one other way you can choose to resolve your turn instead of drawing from one of the two decks you can pick any one of the face up cards in the discard area and add it to your hand then you must place a different card back into the discard area so those are the three options either draw a card from the remix deck the villain deck or the discard area and then after put a card from your hand into the discard area after that your turn is over and then the next player in clockwise order goes and you'll keep taking turns around and around until there are 10 cards face up in the discard area as soon as this happens players reveal their hands and count up any points found on the cards they're still holding but remember if you don't have at least one hero or ally in your hand and at least one villain your hand is worth nothing with that we've actually learned how to play now we just need to understand how the cards score you points and we aren't going to go through every card that comes in the game but i will go over enough examples so you'll be able to interpret any cards you encounter when you play some bonuses will give you points for being with something else in the case of wolverine here it says you'll get six points if it's with a card showing this tag now that just means you have to have that tag on some other card in your hand but at most you can only score this bonus once so if we had all three of these cards even though we have two copies of the required tag we only get the six points of wolverine's bonus once some bonuses will give you points for each of its requirements that you've satisfied for example this discover weakness card says that we gain 11 points for each pair of these two tags that we have in our hand so if we were holding all of these cards we can see they give us one pair of those tags here and then another separate pair using these tags so that would give us a total of 22 points just keep in mind each tag you have can only be used once per bonus you're scoring but you can reuse symbols once you start scoring a new card for example if we now moved on to scoring this match report card from our hand it gives us eight points for each of these tags we have so we could use these two tags again when resolving this bonus some bonus effects instruct you to blank a card in the case of juggernaut we're told to blank one location that we're holding and let's say we chose to blank this skyscraper we have a card that's been blanked is treated as if it is quite literally blank you ignore its power in the corner its tags and any bonuses it would normally create so it it really practically becomes quite useless this blanking effect is coming from juggernaut who is a villain and villain cards usually do have some kind of negative effect that said if you have more than one blanking effect in your hand and they could affect each other you choose the order to resolve them in for example if i had these two cards i could have juggernaut's effect resolve first which would blank a location and maybe i would pick this hidden layer location however i could instead choose to resolve hidden layer first which tells us to bike a villain and we could pick juggernaut and then juggernaut can no longer blank hidden layer because well since juggernaut's been blanked it's like his effect doesn't even exist now if we later discarded this location from our hand it would stop blanking juggernaut so juggernaut would become unblanked and then its effect would be active again sometimes a blanking effect says blanked unless and this means that the card itself is blank and ignored completely unless its condition is fulfilled so this worthy card is blank unless we also have a villain in our hand with power greater than 12.
so if we did have this ultron with its power of 14 our worthy card is not blank finally some cards will have a transforms with effect and when you add these to your hand you should make sure the card is rotated so that the transforms with instruction is in the bottom left hand corner and you only count the tags on its left side as being active however if you satisfy its conditions in this case as soon as you have two or more of these tags on other cards you're holding then this card will transform do notice it says two or more other of these tags meaning you can't count the tags showing on jean grey's card towards this total those tags would have to come from somewhere else for example if we were holding all of these cards in our hand we would have enough symbols to transform jean grey and when that happens you flip the card over in your hand and now you count this power value and the tags here if later you no longer fulfill the requirements that transform the card you must flip it back around now again there are many other cards but with what i've shared here you should be able to interpret all the other bonuses and effects you may encounter while playing but if you have any questions there are a few special cases explained here on the back of the rulebook if you want to check those out that said remember you'll play until there are 10 cards in the discard area and then it's time to reveal your hand and score it do this using the included score sheets going through each of your cards one at a time for example we might start with captain america who gives us two points for each other hero we have we have two other heroes so that's four points he also gives four more points if you have the vibranium shield which we do and don't forget that you score the power level of the card showing here in this corner so that's a total of 12 points which we record here then we move on and score the next card and so on remember to ignore any cards that are blank and i'll also say this just one more time you need to have at least one hero or ally and at least one villain or your whole hand is worth nothing in the end the player with the most points wins and in the case of a tie the tied players share the victory otherwise that's everything you need to know to play marvel remix if you have any questions about anything you saw here feel free to put them in the comments below and i'll gladly answer them as soon as i get a chance you'll also find forums for discussion pictures other videos and lots more over on the games page at board game geek and i'll put a link to that in the description below and if you found this video helpful please consider giving it a like subscribing and clicking that little bell icon so you get notification anytime we post a new video and if you'd like to support us directly you can join our patreon team which i'll have linked below but until next time thanks for watching
