FOUNDERS ⚒️❄️- Playthrough. Deduction by action, place the tile for secret objective.

hello everyone today we are going to play Founders this is a prototype copy by this way who brought out ice who I believe is fulfilling from Kickstarter as we speak so ice was their first game and this one is the second one found this is in the same universe yes so this is a a city building tile placement game uh we're going to be placing tiles and trying to meet certain objectives for scoring and the game was designed by Hugo Freya move and Samson F Perry and hello everyone I'm Stella University sir the ice skills we finally arrive our Caravans arrive at this particular location where we are starting building yes so let's let's have a look at this game and have a look at how to play this is uh part of our one round play through series and we will get through this entire game so we will do a quick overview of the game and then we will explain what happens as we play the game so the version of this game that we are playing is the two-player version and each of us has one placement objective and each objective is formed from a type of shape and one of the district colors and it's actually quite cool during the setup you would get a semi-transparent card like this which shows your objective and you would get a color card like this which shows a blank color and you would put them together in a sleeve and that combination will give you your objective and you keep that hidden from all other players in the two-player version each of us has one parchment objective and one Compass subjective and all four of the objectives in the game will be different colors we can see what all of the various objectives are up here so we can try to deduce what the other players objectives are and try to avoid giving them easy points and fundamentally when the game is over we will score points for our two objectives and whoever gets the highest score wins there are a couple of other ways of getting points though uh the game is played over four rounds or four days in each round there will be I'll have two tiles Stella will have two tiles and there'll be four in the common display and we will go back and forward drafting any tile other than our own and then placing it on the board each of these tiles as I bring one of the spares out has all five colors on it three on one side and two on the other with one color doubled up you can always place the tile on either side when you draft it and and place it you're not allowed to look at the other side before you take it so the one piece of unknown information is you know what colors are on the back but you don't know in what configuration configuration when you play a tile it has to go adjacent to at least one tile that's already out there on the board and if you cover up one of these artifact spaces you get an additional bonus so the uh this artifact here will let you place a single District this artifact here will let you place a building which changes the color of the tile you put it on and this one out here gives you a point if an empty space gets enclosed by some of these districts here a statue gets built in that based on the adjacent colors there has to be a majority there and that gives an extra point to that color those are those are fundamentally the placement rules we will keep playing until either no more tiles can be placed or there have been four rounds We'll add up our objectives and the player with the higher score wins so in a two-player game the rules are slightly different which we're going to share you a little bit uh what's going to happen in the three plays and onwards but we still need to part of it is trying to deduce what your opponents goals are and then trying to block it yes so we're not going to show you our objectives we're going to allow you to deduce them but I'll show you the sorts of objectives that there might be so here for example you would have a certain color poking through and you would choose one of these six sides of the city and want to have as much of that color in there as possible this one here you would want to create as many diamond shapes of your color in a single Direction orientation that you could and you can rotate these as much as you want so suppose I rotated this this way I would want to have as many diamonds all over the board as I could in that that's two point per piece that you you create yes this one is looking for two areas in the middle two fields which could be adjacent or non-adjacent this one is looking for three adjacent blocks in the Middle Field this one is looking for you want to get them near each other but not right on each other because it's districts adjacent to two or three districts of your color this one is looking for the spokes on the edge of the board so lots of different ways that you can score these 10 extensions of objectives although you don't know exactly what color yeah okay so with that I think we need to pick a first player one two three you win all right and we also have asymmetric power yes our play of autumn asymmetrical Powers so I I have some benefits When I cover these up I can take these districts and instead of placing them right away I can hang on to them and place them later when I Place one of these one of these buildings to change the color I get to count the covered District as as if it were both Colors oh nice and the third one doesn't actually apply it to players because the rule related to it has already changed yes well I have I'm the celix the foreman so I can place this Foundation token and it will cover one existing triangle that's already placed on the board yes so for example three times during the game you could take your move and placing it like that and putting it on top covering what was there yeah only one that I can actually cover yes okay uh you start first Aaron yes I will take this one's remember all the tiles that aren't in front of me are available for my selection and I shall put it here you don't even want to pick it underneath there don't get it that's all you need interesting decisions I will take this one so looking at what colors they are I will flip I will put it here it's hard to tell at this stage what Terence objective and my what's mine as well I guess I mean Taryn put it there could easily be that one for purple but who knows you seem to be sure he seems to be sure when he plays it didn't even have the look yes I don't know yes I grab this one let's have a look at each side of this which one's better I think I will play I'd like to I'd like to start getting some of these objectives so I'm going to put this one here actually that's a bit of a risk I already know you've put a couple of greens here and it could be anything there's a few but there's a few objectives that I help you out with if I put this here so I might instead oh and do that that's what it is a rush I will take a towel from you and I will I know what it is so I mean just not the configurations I think I will pop like so it looks like I was probably uh right to not put those greens where I did because that could really help you on could be that objective it could be anything what could be anything you know could be any of these like absolutely any of these I will take this tile and I will put it there's a lot of purple on that one so I think I'll put that down here that is going to give me a building hmm and with the building I feel like you're really building up on green so I think it's going to help me if I take this purple building and change one of your greens how could you so of course for mine it will if I were scoring it it would count as both green and purple but all right I'll take this one I'm going to put it here unfortunately it's not quite cover that unless if I'm gonna do this one which I can still do and that will cover that I'm gonna do that and we'll get one of those please okay what color I'd like to get let's say blue blue blue okay so I place that down yes okay I will place this down here just right there okay I'm making a bit of a triangular checkerboard there with your Blues there's a few things that could mean all right I am forced to take this tile it's the only one available to me now and there's a couple things for me to consider here I don't want now that there's two Blues here I don't want to really do something which closes that off because Stella will be able to put a statue there and probably has a blue card so I would be better off wedging that one up I don't really want to do it with green so I will do it with purple and I'll just block that one up so you can't make a statue with it so I don't know what parent wants is quite a few purples there it could be you know that one which you know there's a concentrated of purple here could be that one purple but you know not on the other side yet maybe that one or could also be uh could it be that it's probably not but this is just guessing right so well I have to take this last one before we move into the next round and of course there's this one I'm gonna use one of my power so I have three to use for throughout the game might as well use it now I will place it here and I'll place this style covering the purple yeah okay we've both taken away one of each other's yes well one of each other's the used colors and that is the end of the first round so now we will refill our displays for round two all right so round two and you are now the first player I think I know what I want here oh oh a purple I still do it though let's see there you go if like I mean purple is like kind of like more concerned on that side I was hoping that that's the case who knows let's let's do that I still didn't want to look at the opposite side of that oh actually it's okay and then I will cover that as well yep so you get another single District well I know what I'm not gonna get is purple or maybe I will get purple actually maybe I actually secretly want purple as well or you know where I don't want it yeah well I know that you want purple I mean but I'm gonna get blue okay uh let's just leave it there that's it I will take this one because I worry about the uh things on the other side that match your interests which what was it [Laughter] um it adds more blue but I I feel like you're pushing the Blues in towards the the middle no actually I'm worried that's creating some different shapes who I'm still gonna place this one but I'm going to put it there okay just kind of like spread your risk right yes do you cover anything no okay I'll take this towel oh that's purple I'll put it here and I covered the symbol so I will get a building a building oh my blood like purple but I'll take blue there you go okay I can see another area here that is a big blue statue potential so I'm going to take this one and block it right up lots of purple I should have got that one now that uh lots of purple for tarant yep now this one covers a district so Karen's definitely a purple purple type of guy purple make a district because of my power I can hang on to that I don't have to place it right away that's good right I'll take this one I'm gonna use my second towel to try to cover something up that's already on on the board um with purple I know this was like at least it's one purple not two purple so that's that I shall take this one let's see what's over the other side two purple one blue I'll put this one in here and this covers up a point so this is the third of the bonuses it is a point I technically I choose one of my two objectives to give this point to um so I'll pick the I'll pick the one that's in more trouble I think Joyce only for the evening let's see on the other side well there's this purple Dreadful Dreadful purple I'm gonna play somewhere that probably give me some bonus so I'm gonna I'm gonna put it right here so it cover it covers one of these zwink yum gives you a district single District give me the green one please thank you join just leave it there all right I have to take this one it's not the orientation I was hoping for I wanted to try to get a statue space there very ambitious Darren it was ambitious that's all right instead I shall place it there and of round two now on three round three all right I am now the first player I will take this tile here and some purple I'm going to put that here so that is going to give me another point and I've now blocked off this area here so we would check this area it's the first time we've enclosed an area we would check the adjacent districts for a majority and there is no majority here it's a green a blue and a yellow so no statue gets built so that's it all right I'm going to use my last thing to place it there I don't really like the look of this purple and I don't like the look of this wearable so I'm going to take this up in put it there now I don't know what Terence are the objectives actually there's it means I'm not doing a great job of it I'll be the yellow if it's the that one apparently have the same colors of purple and purple I don't know we'll see all right I'm going to take this one and I'm going to put it down here and that's also going to give me one of these nice buildings and I'm going to put the building here and you look like you're doing something mean now something special happens here I've now changed the color where this statue would have been so that's now yellow yellow majority so I get the place a yellow Statue you are the yellow person I'm gonna take this one or this one either way I'm actually going to take this one instead so I'm going to place it here so covering this symbol new building yeah I'll take the blue put it here all right just cover more purple and of course it doesn't cut it for if it meets my objective doesn't cover it because I do get to ignore the color change but it will still count as blue for you that's actually true I'll take this one hmm place it here and I'll build another yellow Statue oh no you must be stopped and I'm also going to place this yellow District that I got earlier down here next one I'm gonna place this all somewhere probably there so it covers one of these yep see at a district let's get a green I can cover something else that gives me points I guess so I can just place it there yep and grab yourself a point furthest point ever all right I must take this one you must yes gives me a couple of yellows and a purple here all right and I must take this one and look at this I might actually do this because then at least I get a point there point is not really easy to get here yep okay that's it all right all set up for the last round I think Terence well I think yellow and purple is Heron's color I wanna see what's in it copying that oh purple but that's okay I'll still place it there okay I will place this one here so it is adjacent to the half so that's still okay oh yes yes I'll take this one because I'm going to take the purple away from Tarrant this is probably okay I'm getting get a building here District district sorry I can take away I can take away the purple from you or the yellow potentially so let's get the let's get yellow and I'm gonna place it here might be a risk but hey all right I shall take this one and put it here no another yellow Statue and I'll just point out that uh the statues are placed when an area is surrounded by districts uh this little pocket here is surrounded by the half so that would not count as a plaza okay you want to take this one oh no that might be your thing but that list is surrounded by blue blue statue yeah I shall take this one and I'll place it here which gives me a uh building and I'll take a yellow building and I'll put the building here all right I'll take this one so I'll take the last one that's in the middle so that means that the next one parent is forced to take yes I am allowed to take my own if that is the sole option I have yes simply place it there and I'll finish off by taking this one and placing it down here all right that's the end of the game there we go we're done so now it's time to reveal our objectives hopefully from seeing how we've played you've been able to deduce what they were ta-da so we simply count up the points for each of our colors so yellow I Orient this in one of the three main directions and I scored two points for every hourglass uh plus one for every statue plus the ones I've placed down here so I'm choosing this direction my hourglasses I've got two four six eight ten twelve 13 14 15 16 17 so my yellow score is 17.

and then this one scores one point for every purple that I have in one The District in one side of the one side yeah so the rest is safe so I'm at 17 so 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 because those coverages don't harm me 25 26 27. so that's the one with the most purple yes let's do mine so mine is connecting one Edge to another the pivot could be in any any size I think this has got the most green and then it prefers so it's perfect this way probably yeah so one per green one two this is not because you know 10 cover so one two three four five six seven eight nine ten only yep plus these two because that's your parchment one so that's right 11 12.

and then I've got this this obviously blue yes so this one is going to score every non-blue District that is adjacent to two blue District scores one point and if it's adjacent to three blue District it scores two points plus you get one for the statute so the statue takes you to 13. so this checkerboard really works well for you yes so 14.

15. 16. 17. 18 19. 20. 21 22 because this has three around it 23 24. 25 26. account 26. and so that's one point the difference 26 yeah so there we have it that is the two-player game of Founders so a bit of well tile placement and a bit of deduction now in three or more players that kind of like takes the or enhanced the deduction mechanics a bit more yeah so it changes quite a lot when you're three or four players you don't score your own objectives what you do is you score your colors and you score the lower of the two objectives because every color that's out there will be on two objectives you score the lower of the two objectives that's yours and one of your opponents for each of your colors so you want to work out what shapes your opponent with the same color is trying to make and then help them make that just enough that the scores are about the same but you get a one point bonus if you win out of those two of the same colors so you want to bring them up so that you win it by one point and they both score as much as possible oh wow so it adds this huge extra deduction element you both score the statues and things like that so adds this extra layer it's like almost like oh you have two games in this box so there's also they are two expansions yes there is there is one that you can bring in up to five players so it expands the board with some extra sides here and there are also Guild cards uh that's these ones here they provide various shapes and they give an immediate reward to the player who is the one that completes the shape on the cards that is nice and adds this tactical element to it as well yeah so check out the project page I'll link it down below interested and thank you so much for watching and I really hope that you have a fun day today as well it doesn't matter what you do whether playing board games gardening cooking watching your favorite Netflix shows and watching Ashoka from on Disney plus that is not quick enough to come out I don't know have a great day bye
