Baseball Highlights: 2045 | Solo Playthrough
Hello everyone and welcome to Meet Me at the table. This is Colin and today we are going to do a play through of baseball highlights 2045. This game is all about trying to win the World Series. You are creating your own deck of cards. It is a deck builder. I'm going to be playing as Seattle. So they have different starting decks and each of these decks are different Major League Baseball teams.
So my wife and I are currently watching all of the playoff baseball and just having so much fun and I know Seattle and the Milwaukee Brewers are the two teams that are still in the playoffs that have yet to win a World Series. So I'm rooting for them because I'm of course a Twins fan. I'm from Minnesota, but our Twins stunk.
I mean literally stunk this year. They traded everybody. And the only one I was happy about was Carlos Correa. So glad he's gone. I don't want to see his face again. It made me happy if that Houston did not get into the playoffs. >> [laughter and gasps] >> Anyways, I might be a little bit bitter about that.
What are you talking about? Uh, I have my team of 15 basic cards here. During the seven games of the World Series we'll be slowly upgrading these cards and we're going to try and defeat the AI. So right now Seattle's playing Detroit. So we'll call the AI Detroit. Before we jump into setup, do make sure to turn on the Klingon subtitles just in case I make any errors and miss them in editing.
Otherwise, let's go ahead and set up and start our play through. Whenever you play Baseball Highlights 2045, you can either play it solo or you can play it up to 16 players. Now you might need more than one copy of the game if you're doing 16 players. But what you can do is these little you know one V one games and then you can rotate and play at different players.
I'm really excited to try that with my family. Both the AI, which is Detroit over here, as well as our board, the Seattle board, will have our own boards. We'll track our runs scored, how many games we've won. We have the different bases. Because we are the actual player, not the AI, we'll always be the visitor.
That will change if you play this video, our deck of cards consists of 15 cards from the Seattle starting deck. The 15 cards for our AI actually comes from the free agent deck. This deck is where we are going to buy and upgrade cards ourselves. So they have a fully upgraded deck. However, this deck is not going to change throughout the games.
Ours will change as we play and so what our goal is is to see the cards that are in this deck and then try and counteract them as much as we can. I've drawn a 10 cards out for our free agent deck and these cards are going to be the ones we can purchase from. Just like most deck builders, when you buy a card you'll immediately replace it.
And I will say this is a small variant that is recommended by a lot of other folks. Normally you only put out six cards, but I like to have a few more options. So we're going to play with 10. Throughout the game we'll be threatening hits and having base runners. We have three different types. We have slow people.
That's like a David Ortiz. We have an average person. That's like a Will Smith from the Dodgers right now. And we've got the fast people. That's like Trey Turner. So fast, average and slow. And you'll see how those are placed out as we play. Each of the player boards has a tracker for games won and the runs scored.
How this game works, you're going to draw your six cards and then you're each going to go back and forth and play your six cards. And that's considered one game. After those six cards are played, whoever has the most runs scored will win that game and then move up on the track. Now, what they recommend when you're going against the AI, because the AI has such an upgraded deck, we can have a certain amount of buy rounds.
The rules recommend between one to four buy rounds. We're going to do right in the middle. We're going to do two rounds. Now, something that I also did when I did this way back at One Stop about eight years ago, I did two preseason games and that's what I'm going to do. So I'm going to actually play two games that won't count for our games won.
That will also be used to slowly level up our deck and then we'll move into the World Series playing against Detroit for seven games. With that, I think we're ready to just jump right in. So how we start, we draw six cards for our first hand. We can then choose if we'd like to place one of these on our on deck circle.
Let's talk quick about certain items that you can see on these cards. The first thing is there's a number here on the right hand side. That's going to tell us how much money we'll have after this game to buy cards that are on the table. Right now I have eight total money. What I'm thinking of doing is placing this card into our on deck circle for two reasons.
One, this card gives me zero money. So it's not going to help me buy anything. Two, there is what's called a visitor save which can happen after the home team plays their last card and we could potentially use this to cancel a hit. And you'll see how that works as we play. So I'm going to place that on my on deck spot and replace it with a new one.
Okay, this one has one money. So now I'll have nine money to purchase. For the AI, the only thing you have to do is shuffle up their deck and you're good to go. This is their 15 cards. It's never going to change. The AI will also never use an on deck circle. So we don't have to worry about placing a card there.
So now we can start our first inning. Essentially, we play six innings. Think of it that way. When we play a card, that's our first inning. What I'm thinking of doing is starting off I think I'm going to start off with this one. We'll place this rookie here right in the in play section. The first thing we need to look at is see if there's anything in the immediate box.
There isn't. So there's no immediate effect for playing this rookie. Then we look down here and we see we are threatening a single. And we look at the bottom section of the card and we can see it's an average runner. So it's a blue runner. Now we haven't actually gotten a hit right now. We're just threatening a single with a natural player.
I should call out the fun part about this game is there are three different types of players. There's naturals, there's cyborgs which are a combination of human and robot, and there's robots. So there's three different types and sometimes cards can play off of one one another because of that. So we're starting with a natural.
This number doesn't matter now. That will matter during the buy phase. What matters now is what's down here. So we're threatening that single. Let's see how the AI responds. Detroit will respond by drawing that top card of their deck and they have speed 42. The first thing they will do is activate this immediate box.
It says stolen base. Advance all average and fast base runners one space. This is where the AI doesn't play as well, which is why they can have a more upgraded deck because you would never start with that, right? Because they don't have anybody on the base. So since they don't have anybody on base, that totally misses.
After resolving the immediate effect on that card, we now can resolve any of our threatened hits. Well, we have a single. So our average runner will move here to the single spot. I'll explain the differences between slow, average and fast runners as we play. It'll make the most sense that way. And I should call out, if you don't know how baseball works, you can still play this game.
The most important thing you need to know is you want to get everybody home. So you want hits to get people on base and then get them back home. Only one player can be on each base. So if you have a fast runner who can maybe move more spaces than an average or a slow runner, they can't overtake or go into the same space as another runner.
Each runner can only be on one space individually. Next up, Detroit is going to threaten two different hits, a single and a double. A single means that that person will only move one base. A double means they'll move two spaces. Triple is a third and a home run, they just immediately score. This is now where we have a couple of options.
One thing we could do, we could just play one of these cards with no immediate effect. If we do that, he's going to hit a single and a double. Not great. I'm kind of thinking I'd like to cancel one of those. I have that rookie that is in the on deck section that I could pinch hit for and play that instead of one of the cards in my hand.
But I can only do that with a card that has a pinch hit symbol on the bottom of the card. So that means I have to take this card and instead of playing it, I would discard it to my dugout and then I'd play my on deck card instead. I don't really want to do that cuz this card is also awesome and it can work for what we're thinking of doing.
However, this will not The bad thing about this is it does not threaten any hits. That's okay. I think we're going to play our cyborg here. Once we place that cyborg in our on play area, we do the immediate effect. Walk. Change all hits to walks. What that means is instead of this being a single, it's a walk.
So they just walked to first base. And then instead of that being a double, it's also a walk. So that means the person at first will go to second and the person at home will go to first. That's all they get to do. They don't get to do a single and a double. And these fast runners can't use their fast effect and get home quicker.
If we were threatening a hit, you'd see it right here and we don't see anything. So that's the only card we're playing. We'll go back to the AI. The AI will then grab their next card and play it. And they have Ooh, a glove. Cancel a hit. Jokes on you. I don't have a hit even for you to cancel. Uh, we would then resolve our hits if we had any.
We don't have any. They are going to threaten another single and another double. And you're going to see they are going to kill us likely in these first two preseason games. And that's okay. I really just want to be able to buy good cards and show you how the game works. As we can see from our cards remaining, we have no ways to cancel those hits.
So I think I'm just going to play the double single robot. Once we play that card into our on deck circle, we have no immediate effect. So now they are going to resolve their threatened hits. The first hit will be a single. Now we can talk about base runners. When these base runners, because they're fast, they get to move one extra base depending upon the hit type.
So because this is a single, it'll actually be a double for the base runners. So this guy will be able to move two and he's going to score. That scores him one. This guy is going to move two and then the guy who hit the ball will still only so he's going to run faster on this double. For the double hit, this guy certainly is going to get home, that will score them, and then this guy gets to move three bases, and that's going to score another one, and he'll get to second.
So, now it's three to nothing. After resolving those threatened hits, we'll threaten with two singles with some slow runners. Detroit at this point is probably laughing at us. Okay, we'll see what Detroit's going to do. Oh, this is a cyborg. Spitball, cancel all hits versus a cyborg. Ha, we have a robot, so that does not hit.
That means we can resolve our two threatened hits. Our first one is a single, so this is an average runner, they'll move to the second base for one, and we've got a single here. Now, this second single, what's interesting about average and fast runners, if ever there's a single when they are on second base, they will get home.
Uh so, they get to move two, and we'll score our first run. Our slow runners won't. So, if we had another slow runner here and we got a single, this guy on second will just get to third. That's it, they will not get home. But, we scored our first run. Dizzy here then will threaten with an average runner, we'll put him at home.
For our next card, I'm thinking of doing this triple. We'll have a fast runner, maybe we can score two. That card had no immediate effect, so the AI will hit a double or Detroit, they're going to be up four runs, and then this average runner will get to second. We'll then threaten with a fast triple, we'll place our runner there, maybe we can score two.
Drawing the uh Detroit team's next card, oh, they have no immediate effect. That means with a triple, we will score one here and one two three, even though they're slow, they can move at a minimum whatever the hit value is. And this guy, one two three, is at a triple. If we can just get a base hit, we can score another run.
It's only four to three. However, we have an average runner here that's going to hit a home run, and they're going to be able to do that, it's going to score them two runs. We only have two cards remaining, we'll play this one, that means we have no immediate effect. This guy here crushes a two-run homer, so they're now up six to three.
We will then threaten with an average runner for a double. Detroit will draw their next card, and they have all cancel one hit. So, you know how we were going to get a double? I'm just removing that, we don't get it. And they're going to threaten with an average double. We only have one card remaining in our hand, uh it does no immediate effect.
That means Boog Banks will get to second on a double, and we will threaten with a slow runner that can get to a second base, maybe. We've played our six cards, the home team will also get to play their sixth card. They have no immediate effect on this robot. That means our double will score, so we won't get totally killed, it'll be four to six right now, and this slow runner gets to second.
But now, Detroit will threaten with a single and a triple. Now, because we've already played our six cards, we can't play another card into our in-deck circle, instead, we can either play the top card of our lineup deck and use any immediate effect that would cancel any of the hits. If it doesn't cancel a hit or anything anything like that, then it doesn't do anything, or we can play our on-deck card, or we can do nothing.
If we do nothing, now this on-deck card goes on top of our deck. I want to cycle my deck because I want to get to my good cards as fast as possible, so I'm going to play this, just canceling a hit. This does not go into my in-play area because I will not get to use this card, let's say it had money on it, I can't use that money to buy cards.
Whenever you cancel a hit, you can choose which one to cancel, so we'll cancel the triple. That does mean they'll still get the single, and this average runner will score, so the end of the game will be at seven to four, we lost. But, that was just a preseason, and we'll do one more preseason before we move in to the actual World Series, which I know doesn't make sense cuz we're doing two American League teams.
Deal with it. >> [laughter] >> We'll now move into the buying round, our total money is two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Looking at all of our options here, we're likely only going to be able to buy one or two cards. I don't think any of the cards cost less than four, so I could do a four and a four, maybe another four would show up, or I could just get one slightly better card that's at a six or a seven, and like this one, lead off.
If this is your first card played, you get an immediate single, and then it threatens with two more singles. But, I also have to remember the money it generates. Right now, that one generates zero money. This guy generates three, and this one generates three. Kind of thinking cancel all hits versus a natural.
It's really nice to be able to cancel some of the hits of the AI, so I think I'm going to grab this one for six. Means I only have two money left, and yeah, none of these are at two, so we're not going to be able to buy any of these. Now, this card actually goes on top of our deck, so we're going to have that in our hand.
The other thing we have to do, our lineup can only ever be 15 cards, so we need to send one of our players back to the minor leagues, so I'm going to choose, and it has to be one that we've played, uh so, I'm going to choose this rookie, that will be removed from my deck. So, now my deck is still only 15 cards big, and I've upgraded one, and that's one of the best parts about this game.
I love love that I only have 15 cards and they get upgraded. Those are my favorite types of deck builders where you just immediately feel the benefit because you're not clogged down with all of the basic cards. I've reset up our board, drawn our next six cards, we're going to do one more preseason game.
I have to choose one of these cards to put in our on-deck circle if we'd like. I definitely want to. This one reduces all hits by one base. That's good, but it also is worth zero money. Remember, really what I care about the most is money. Okay, two, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11. We have 11 money this time.
I like that. Normally, when you're playing with other players, you would rotate who's home and who's visitor. We are always going to be visitor, so we'll start first. I think teamwork, if you've already played a natural, replace. No, we definitely want to start with this one. That's our only one that doesn't have an immediate effect.
All we're going to do is threaten with two slow singles from this robot. Detroit will respond by, let's see, having no immediate effect, which means we'll get one single, and then we'll get another single, so now we have men on first and second. This Turtlebot TR will threaten with two average singles of their own.
Looking at our options this time, I think we're going to do this robot. It will pinch runner, replace all base runners with fast base runners. Why not? This will mean these two slow runners will be replaced by two fast runners. Yes, and we will threaten a single with an average runner. I placed out our threatened hit too soon, should have done that after we resolved their hits.
That's fine, it's fine this time. Two singles, we're good. Now, Detroit will respond, let's see if they have an immediate, they don't have an immediate. We have two men on, and we hit a single. This is a fast runner. We're going to score the first run. This guy can get all the way to third, first to third.
This guy's only going to be first, though. Unfortunately, though, this natural is having two home runs. One would be a three-run home run, another would be a solo shot. I have the absolute perfect response to that card, though, that was a natural. We have this guy, fastball, cancel all hits versus a natural.
Once we play the Blue Moon Ojul, Berry Sosa has been struck out twice. >> [laughter] >> Oh, that's awesome. We will then threaten a single with an average runner. Detroit will then respond by drawing their next card, it does not cancel anything of ours, so that means we will hit a single and we'll score our second run.
This guy will get to second base, and we've got men on first and second. Detroit will, however, threaten with a home run. They have what, three home run cards in that deck? I've got to remember that. Unfortunately for us, I don't have a great play here. I think I might just play our cyborg, that's going to give us a pickoff, we can remove a base runner.
We'll pick off the guy on second, but that's just before they then hit a two-run homer, both of these get all the way around, and we don't threaten with any hits. So, we still have somebody on first and second. Uh they're going to cancel a hit. Ha, joke's on you, I don't have a hit. They then will threaten with a single and a double, both with slow characters, or I I call them characters, players.
We only have two cards remaining, we're going to play this one, that means we have no immediate effect. This guy's going to steal two bases. So, this guy's going to steal home, that puts us in the lead right now, but Detroit will get a single and then a double, so this guy will get to third, and this guy's on first.
We once again do not have any threatened hits, so that's all we'll do, we'll go back to Detroit. Stolen base, advance all average and fast base runners. Ha, they have a two slow ones, so that doesn't happen. And then they've got a single and a double showing up. I would love to be able to pinch hit for this guy because he's worth zero, but I can't.
We have an immediate, we get to have a walk if you already have played a natural this turn, but we have it. We got a natural, robot, cyborg, cyborg, robot, and robot. I did not get a natural in this hand. So, we don't even get that. This means Detroit will have that single, that's going to score a run and tie the game up three to three.
But then, they have a double. The double, one two, and this guy will get to third, this guy will get to here, and the score is now four to three. We'll then threaten with our single, but even if we succeed on that single, we'll only get our average runner to second base. So, yeah, we're not going to score anymore.
That means for the uh Detroit player, the last card they played, lead off. If this is the first card played, it's not, it will threaten a single. We will be able to get our single and move our average runners to a first and second. But then Detroit will threaten a fast single. We can then play this card, reduce all hits by one base.
So that single becomes a nothing, but they still won. They only won four to three. That was good though. We can move into our buying round and then start the official World Series where we'll start tracking games. Our goal is simple. We want to win four games before Detroit wins four. >> [laughter] >> It'll be interesting.
We have a total of 11 money to play with this time. I can get a seven and a four if I wanted. That's kind of or a six and a five actually. I can do a six and a five too. I think what I'm going to do is get Troy Geter here from New York for seven and I'm going to retire. I love these guys that have all these cool effects, but if they don't threaten a hit, it's brutal.
Because of that, I think I'm going to retire this Cyborg. So I'm going to put that Cyborg out and I'll replenish. We have Josh Lynn. If this is the first card you played, you get an immediate single, but that doesn't threaten anything. This means the only two I can look at purchasing are these two. Uh I think I I love canceling hits, but these but this is a home run too.
Uh but I think I'm going to do Pee Wee. I'm going to do Pee Wee for our other one and who am I going to retire or send back to the minors? I know this robot gives me a three money, but once again, it does not threaten any hits. So I'm going to say a sayonara and then I'll replace it with a new card.
We have the mini motor uh FX. We've now completed our preseason. Let's move into the actual game. So we only have four cards here in our deck and once we need to draw cards from our lineup and it's empty, we'll shuffle our dugout and draw two more. So we'll have six cards. Don't forget that we will continue to do buy rounds after each game.
So I do still want to pay attention to the money we can earn from cards. But looking at what we have, we've got a lot of cancel one hits. One, two, actually have four of those, which is really nice. This one does not threaten a hit. All the other ones do. So this is a defensive card only. I'm going to place it on my on deck and replenish it with a new card.
Oh, we've got Blue Moon. Another canceling card. Okay, we do start off and I think we're going to start with this one because it's just threatening a single. I don't have any of these that give me any benefit if they're first. No. We'll threaten with that average single. Let's see how Detroit responds.
We'll flip that top card for them and they have double play. Remove up to two base runners. Ha! And it can't be fast. We don't have any base runners. Now we will though. We'll move our average runner to first base. Detroit will then threaten with two basic singles with average runners. We can see that's Bucky Cano who's a natural.
Great time to play our Cyborg fastball. Cancel all hits versus a natural. This means both singles here are removed. We will then threaten with a single of our own. Detroit will then respond to drawing their top card and they have ooh, quick eye. Single if it's versus Cyborg and yes, it is. We have a Cyborg.
So that immediately happens. We look down here. It'll be an average runner. They will immediately get to first base. That's because it's from their immediate effect. We though can resolve the single from our threatened spot. So now we've got men on first and second. Detroit will then threaten with a double and a single.
Oh boy. The question now becomes do we want to cancel a hit or turn those average base runners into fast runners, but then they get a double and a single which will score a run. I think I think we're going to do this one with the natural and just cancel one of the hits. We'll cancel the double. That way it with the single, they only have men on first and second.
This is fun. We'll then place our fast runner for a single. Let's see if they cancel that. Can they strike out Pee Wee? That's going to be the question. Uh this says fastball. Cancel all hits versus a natural. Oh, he's a natural. So we are going to lose our fast single and then he is also going to try and have a single of his own.
With his single, why don't we cancel that? We'll use Troy Geter. Derek Jeter, that's hilarious. We'll cancel that and then we will threaten a two singles from Derek Jeter cuz that definitely is Derek Jeter-y. I can't believe no one has scored yet. Their deck is empty. We'll shuffle this out and then we'll simply draw their top card and they have stolen base.
Advance all average and fast base runners one space. So they've got men on second and third, but they didn't stop our two singles. This is where it gets interesting. Remember average runners, one, two, they go in on a single because if they're at second base, they're considered in scoring position. Next one, same thing.
Single. We just scored two runs because of Derek Jeter. Detroit is also going to threaten with a single and a double. We can deal with the double, but that single is going to score two runs and tie it up. Don't think I have anything I can do about that. I can cancel one hit. We'll cancel the double, but with that single, they're going to get to here both of them because they are average runners will score and it's now tied two to two.
What a game so far. Okay, we will threaten with an average single. We only have one card left. What is Detroit going to do? Are they going to cancel? No, they don't cancel our single. This will allow us to score another run cuz we had somebody on second. That was an average runner. Uh but unfortunately, they are going to threaten with not one, but two home runs.
That would score three runs and that would mean they are most certainly going to win. Can we do something about that? I can't believe Barry Sosa showed up right when he did because what we could do is we could use our pinch hitter. We could bring this one in and cancel one of those home runs. So they'd only score two runs.
That would mean they'd be up four to three, but we don't threaten any hits with this card and that would mean we are guaranteed to lose anyways. So I think we're just going to play this pinch runner. Replace all base runners with fast base runners. Well and and we'll see if maybe something happens. I doubt it though.
Barry Sosa here will then hit two home runs which will score all three of these runners. So now it's five to three. We then will simply threaten with a single which would score only one run. So even if we score that, we're going to lose five to four. Oh, we got so close. Let's see what they're going to play.
Oh, they're going to cancel our hit anyways. So we didn't even get the hit. And then they will have a single and a double for our their fast runners. We will then do our defensive save canceling a hit. That will go to our dugout so we don't get that card for buying. And that means they'll just get a single.
But they did win the game five to three. They're up one game to none. Looks like we need to have a conversation with our pitchers. So our total value for purchasing two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11. What I'm thinking of doing is buying a six and a five card. That will be a total of 11.
This robot, if we have going up against a Cyborg, we get an immediate single with a double and a single. So I think I'm going to grab that one and I'm going to retire this basic rookie. All right, not retire. I'm going to send him to the minors. I'm going to replace that with another six. I have five money left.
This guy is interesting. He doesn't threaten anything, but he is he is our lead off, he immediately gets a single and he's fast. And we can always pinch hit for him if we wanted. So I'm kind of thinking of grabbing him for our five. 6 + 5 is 11 and I am going to send this rookie to the minors. We'll then replenish and we have a Z Bat which is a straight double home run.
No money. Which maybe in a round or two going for no money ones is fine. I still wanted money because we're going to need to buy some better cards. Here we have our next hand of six cards. Do we want to put anybody on deck? I think so. This one does not threaten anything and it says a walk. Change all hits to walks.
A great way to cancel their last runs, right? So we'll do that and we'll replenish with a basic rookie. Uh which gives us a single. Our money is two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. So we only have eight money this time instead of 11. We all know what we're going to start with. We have to. Otherwise, he's kind of useless.
Josh Lynn, because he's our lead off, he immediately gives us a fast single. This means they can cancel our threatened hits this round all they want. It's not going to matter to us. Detroit who's already up one nothing will flip their first card. Cancel all hits. See, we don't have to worry about that and they will threaten a double.
Average double. The Detroit pitcher Dizzy is a Cyborg. I think it's a great time to play the model IT. We'll get an immediate single if it's versus Cyborg. That immediate single will also allow our fast runner to run two bases instead of one. So we've got men on first and third. We did not cancel their double though, so they've got a man on second.
We will then threaten with a double and a single. This could score some runs. That's assuming they don't cancel our robot's hits. Uh they have Okay, just cancel one hit. Detroit will always cancel the better hit, so the double, but the single will score someone. This one on third will score. We're up one nothing and we've got men on first and second.
Detroit will then threaten with a single and a double with some slow runners. The first card we played this round was a natural. So we're going to play this veteran here and it says teamwork. Walk if you've already played a natural. If you don't know much about baseball, what a walk is is when a batter is up and a pitcher throws four balls out of the strike zone, they then get a free pass to first base.
That's why everyone just moves one base. No one's running. So the guy that's on second can't sneak his way home. Unfortunately though, Babe Bench will get a single and since that is a ball that's in play, this guy will score for one run and then the double will get this guy to third and this slow guy to second.
Score is one nothing, but we have the bases loaded. I haven't bought anyone with a home run yet ability. I see someone up there and I think I might buy him next time. I just want to be able to hit a home run with my team, right? Uh the Detroit will play stolen base advanced all average and fast base runners.
Take that, they're all slow. Not only that, this is a single and we've got two men on their average. They both will score. That means Oh, actually, we're up three to one. I forgot we had scored one. That's good, but it is just a single. So, we'll go here and here. They will threaten with a fast single and a fast double.
Oh. None of the cards I have here have the pinch hit symbol, which is a huge bummer because I'd love to pinch hit this and turn all of those hits into walks. Can't do that. So, single single single single or single. Let's do the Well, let's do the average. No, no. Let's see if we can get more people on.
So, two singles. The first single will just have one player score. And remember, this is a slow runner, so they can't get from second to home. The next one is a double. So, that's going to score him for sure, and that means he can move three bases cuz there's one extra. And now all of a sudden, they are in the lead four to three.
We'll then just threaten with two singles, both slow. Detroit will respond flipping this card over. Oh my gosh, no immediate, which is actually really great. That single will score a run. We're now tied four to four. And then the next single will actually take the lead because the man on second is an average runner, and we're up five to four.
That's not going to matter though when they have a home run showing up. That's going to score them two runs. We only have a two basic robots left. We're just going to do this one that has no immediate effect. That means this robot is going to score two runs for Detroit, and that will put them up six to five.
They are in the lead. We can at least threaten with two more singles, and that should, if both of those go off, score us a run and tie the game. Will Detroit let us do that though? We will see. Yes, they will. The single will cause all of us to have the bases loaded, and then just a single. Unfortunately, why are they all slow?
They will only score one run. It is tied six to six. This robot will threaten with two singles, and they're average runners. And we will play our last card here. We are having no immediate effect. That will mean they'll get two basic signals or singles. Wow, I want to say signal. Two singles, men on first and second.
We'll then threaten with an average single, which means at most we're going to score one more run because these are all slow runners. Detroit will respond. What are they going to do? What are they going to do? Oh, cancel our hit. They're going to cancel our hit. That means we don't get to move at all.
They are going to threaten with a double of their own, and then we can play our on deck change all hits to walks. This is where it gets interesting. They are going to have the bases loaded, and we are tied up six to six. We get to do go to extra innings. So now, how this works for the AI, they're just going to draw one of those cards.
We will get to draw three cards, and we're going to choose one to play. I've got exactly three left here. I can't believe we both have the bases loaded right now. This is amazing. What I'm going to choose one of these cards and play it into our in play area. I think the best one for me is going to be this cyborg because we can get a triple, which could clear all the bases, and we're going to reduce their hit by one base.
Now, normally, when you do extra innings, you actually get to put all those cards into your in play area, and then it will add to the total money. But since the AI isn't buying cards, I'm actually going to remove these cards. These are the only ones I'm going to use for purchasing just to try and keep it more fair.
So, I'm going to play this one, and I'll discard the other two. Detroit will then draw their top card, and we start by resolving the immediate action for the home team. There isn't one. Then we do the immediate action for the visiting team. Ours is reduce all hits by one base. So, instead of a single, this will be a double Oh, I should say a single is nothing, and then this triple is going to be a double.
I'll grab the base runners for this. So, we have a fast one for them and a slow one for us. We now need to resolve the hits. So, this will be a double. That will mean for them they will score these two runs. They're going to go up to eight. This one will go to here, and this will go to here. For us, we have a triple, which means one, two, three.
We just scored three runs, and this guy gets to third. And now we are up nine to eight because we are up We won that game. Game two is ours. We're tied one to one. So now, we will discard our this card. We're not going to use it for purchasing. We're just going to use the cards that we had before for purchasing.
So, we have two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight for purchasing. With our eight, we're just going to buy one card. I want the sea uh This is home run home run. And it's a Detroit one, so I just want to stick it to Detroit. We're going to send back down to the minors this rookie. Uh and we'll replenish with a new one.
This is Brooks Nettles. We'll place him here. We only have one card in our deck. We know what it is. We'll draw it, and then I'll shuffle and draw for the other five cards. We're tied one to one. We just need to win three more. Here we have our six cards. I love seeing Josh Lynn. I think once again, well, we have an option.
We can actually leave this one in our hand this time, and then I could retire this one Hmm. Instead of using it for the on deck, but they can't No, you know what? It's actually a great on deck. We can cancel a hit. I think that's good, and we'll replenish with Oh, great. Change all hits to walks. Still doesn't threaten a hit.
Well, we all know we're starting with Josh Lynn for this game. That will give us a fast runner to first. Detroit will start us off next. They have no immediate effect, but we don't have to resolve anything. They're just going to go for a solo home run. Great time for that one to show up. If that had showed up as the card last time, although I think we Well, we changed it to a walk or something.
No, we reduced it by one. That would have been a triple, and we would have been tied. >> [gasps] >> Oh, we were so lucky that that card did not show up last time. With a straight home run, what if we just do this one right now? Change it to a walk. That's actually not bad at all. We won't threaten anything because there's nothing on our card to threaten, so they'll just flip.
It's not their lead off. We don't get to put any one on, but they have a fast single showing up. With that fast single, we can cancel it with this reduce all hits by one base. So, that means they will not have that single, and we can threaten with a slow triple. It's This game is so different. Last one we got nine runs.
This one is still 0-0. We're halfway through. Detroit had to shuffle their deck. We will draw their next one. Oh, cancel one hit. That means our triple is not going to be there, and they are going to threaten a single and a double. With our three cards remaining, let's do the double home run, shall we?
We've got somebody on base, so might as well. That means we have to resolve the single first, which will move these here. And then the double will score this one. They're going to be up one nothing. This guy's going to be on third, and this guy will be on second. We'll then threaten with our two home runs, slow runners, but won't matter if they can actually just get home.
We'll draw the next card for Detroit, and they don't do anything. So, we're going to get the home runs. That will allow us to score all three of these. We are now up three to one, but it's not all good. They are going to threaten with two home runs, which will be Well, 1 2 3, that's four runs. That'll put them up five to three.
And sadly, we can't do anything about it. We're just going to have to play. We have essentially the exact same thing. Well, one's a single, and one's a double. Uh you know what? We probably want to do the double first. No, cuz it's slow. We We're not going to score any of them because if I do the double first and then the single, uh the double is slow, so they just get to third.
If I do the single first and then a double, they're going to get to third I'm not going to score anymore. Bummer. Detroit certainly is. Four runs. 1 2 3 4. It's now five to three. We'll threaten with our useless single, hoping that maybe they'll use their other home run card right now. No, stolen base.
There's nobody on, but they will threaten with a single and a double. Oh, we do get our single, which like I said, is not going to matter because then we'll play this. They'll get their single plus the double, which actually allows this guy to score, putting it to six Oh, six to three, you guys. This is terrible.
You know, we were feeling so well with that extra inning win, but it's not going to matter for this game. They'll play their final card here. Spitball cancel hits versus cyborg. Ha, it's not a cyborg at least. Our robots will get a nice double, but sadly, it's not going to matter. They'll threaten with that double.
We will cancel it with this, but that will go into our dugout, and we lost that game six to three. So, they are now up two games to one. We only have seven money to play with this time. With seven money, I can go for either of these two. I can go for others, but I kind of like these cuz they're double hits.
This gives us a lead off. This one cancels all hits. I think we're going to do the cancel all hits, and we're going to retire this change walk to hits. It's a good one, but it does not threaten any hits. We need hits so bad. We've got another cyborg. We'll now start game four, and I have to decide what do I want to put in my on deck area.
This could cancel a hit, but I'm giving up a single. Replace all base runners, but that won't matter. This cancel all But I definitely don't want to do this one because I want that money for absolute sure. So, I think I am going to do him. I'm going to put Pee Wee into our on deck and we are going to draw another one.
Look at all this money. 3 6 3 6 7 8 9 10 What 10 money? That's still pretty good. What do we want to start with then? I think the one to start with is our veteran here. He's a veteran hitting a triple. It's a fast triple, too. That would be a great way to start the game. Detroit will respond with Okay, double play.
Ha, you can't double play anybody that's not on the base. Plus, it can't remove fast runners. 1 2 3, we're right there. Detroit will threaten with two singles. What do you say we play our cyborg? Fastball cancel all hits versus a natural. Bucky Knie is a natural. These two are gone. Next, we'll threaten that single with our blue moon O'Jewel.
Detroit still doesn't have any base runners. I like it. This guy does not cancel anything. That means it's single time and we are up one nothing. However, they will threaten a home run, which we'll be able to just cancel here with our cyborg. Cancel Uh this is a curveball. Cancel all hits versus a robot.
Can see that is most certainly a robot. So, no home run for them and we'll threaten both a single and a double. Oh, I feel like we're doing really well right now. I maybe shouldn't say that, but I am. Uh stolen base. Ha, you don't have to worry about stolen bases. Nobody's on the base. That means we'll hit that single first.
We get a man in scoring position and then a double will score another run. This guy will get to third and this guy will be at second. We're now up two to nothing. We've got a single and a double threatening. I like the idea of canceling hits, don't you? Let's play Troy Jeter. We'll cancel the double.
This means Detroit will just get their first base runner on first base. Troy Jeter, the man of the hour in game two, will threaten with two singles. Detroit will then draw their next card. No cancellation. This could be a runaway game for Seattle. That single will score both of these runners cuz they're both average.
So, we're at four and then the next single, we've got men on first and second. Clutch, I would say so. Detroit will threaten with a single and a triple. I can handle that, I think. Especially because we can use our veteran here. Pinch runner, replace all base runners with fast base runners. So, now we've got fast base runners at first and second.
Unfortunately though, this robot will get a single. We'll place their runners here and then a triple here is going to score both of these. So, that will mean they have two runs. They got a guy on third. It's 4 to 2, so it ain't over yet. A late surge by Detroit. Will it be enough? Hopefully not. I don't want them to be at three games.
After placing out our threatened runner for a single, which would score at least one, they don't cancel anything. That is awesome. That will most certainly score that fast runner. This one will get all the way to third on that single. It is now 5 to 2. We'll place out two average runners. We have one card remaining.
We'll play this. We have most certainly played a natural, so we'll start with a walk to have the bases loaded. Detroit though will knock in yet another run with that single. So, now it's 5 to 3 and then with the second single, they got men on first and second. We'll then threaten with an average single that could score two.
The question is, will that be canceled? Quick eye, single versus a cyborg. No, it's a natural. That will not be canceled. That means these two runs will score on that single and we're up 7 to 3. They'll threaten with both a double and a single and I think I'm fine with that. I will just use this card.
Should I put it on top of my deck? Because that cancel one hit. Even if they scored 1 2 3 4 5 6 7, they would tie us, but they aren't. So, I'm actually going to keep my on deck card. We're going to just let them resolve. Or I could play the top card of our deck. Why don't we just play the top card? Hopefully, it's not a good one.
Yes, we're just going to do this one. It has no effect. That will simply go to our dugout or discard pile. They'll then resolve the double, which will allow them to score a run. That will put them up to four. And then the single here scores both of these runs. 5 6. But guess what? We have seven runs.
So, we won 7 to 6. It's now tied two games to two. That is amazing. Since we did not use our on deck card, it will go on top of our deck and I was able to just discard this one. That was worth it. Let's see how much money we have. I think it was 10, right? We got zero. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. The first one I'm thinking of buying is Mark.
It's just two singles, but it also gives us three bucks. We will take out this walk. Oh, that walk one was awesome. We'll send them to the minors. That was five out of our 10. Our other five, let's go for the two bat, shall we? Or actually, that's a Z bat. It's a double and a home run. We're going to give up this veteran.
We're going to send them to the minors. Oh, that was great. We'll replenish. It's tied two to two. So, we are at most going to have to play two more games. And I should say at least we're going to have to play two more games. We've drawn up our six cards. We can see our obvious on deck circle choice.
It has no threat of a hit, so we'll place that into our on deck. I did have to shuffle. We've got blue moon. Sweet. 3 6 7 8 9 10. We'll have 10 money. Uh what do we want to start with? It's going to be one of these two. Uh yeah, let's Or or it could just be the single single. Why don't we do the single single?
Get some people on base before we hit a double and a home run. Those will be two average singles. I'll take that. Detroit will respond by canceling one of those hits. So, they'll cancel one of the singles. The other one just gets through by the third base line, so we got a man on first. Unfortunately for us, they will threaten a single and a double.
Lucky for us though, we have blue moon. That is a natural. Cancel all hits versus a natural. So, both of those are going to be gone. What an awesome fastball. I love it. All right, then we will threaten with an average base hit. Detroit, not happy about having two strike outs, will have cancel all hits versus a natural.
Ha, we're not a natural. We're just a basic cyborg. So, single, men on first and second. They will then threaten an average single. Satchel is a cyborg, so it sounds like a great time to play our robot here. We get an immediate single. With that immediate single, the guy on second will run home, so we now have one run.
We couldn't stop Satchel from getting a base hit though, so they now have a man on first. We'll then threaten with both a double and a single. Detroit only has one card left in their deck. I should know what this is. Oh, it's going to cancel the double for us, which is a bummer, but that single You know what that single's going to do?
Get another run in. We're up two to nothing. Detroit will once again threaten with a double. That double isn't going to hurt me. So, I feel like this Z bat, it's a great time to play it, especially with that home run. The double means that they will have men on second and third. We'll threaten with both a double and a home run.
This robot may blow this game wide open if that does not get canceled. Quick eye, single versus a cyborg. That's a robot. That means no single for them and all four of these are runs. 1 2 3 4. It is now 6 to nothing. Detroit won't go down easy though. They will continue to put pressure on us, a double and a single.
That double or single won't hurt us a ton, so let's play our basic rookie. The double will allow both of these runners to score, scoring making it 6 to 2. And then the single here, because that's an average runner, will score another run. It is 6 to 3. So, we don't have a huge lead, but what we will have are two slow singles coming in hot.
Detroit will then respond with Oh, the bat 44. Uh advance all average and fast base runners one base. So, they steal to second. This will mean we'll have a base hit here and then another base hit. And I'm realizing these are all slow. We're not going to score another run. Because yeah, even with our on deck card, we're not going to score another run.
So, I need to make sure they do not score three runs here. Detroit will threaten with both a single and a double. We will then play Pee Wee here to cancel that double. The single though will allow them to score again and it's now 6 to 4. We will threaten with a fast single, but that's not going to be great because none of these are going to score on a single.
Because he's slow. Detroit will then play their last card and it will be a stolen base. Advance all average and fast base runners. That's not going to matter because this is a slow runner. We'll have all of our runners move up and now our bases are loaded. And then Detroit will threaten with both a single and a double and we can use this to cancel one hit.
We'll cancel the double. That means with the single, they don't have enough runs. That means we just won. What was that? 6 to 4. We're up three games to two. We just need to win one more game. Our total buying power this time is 3 6 7 8 9 10. A total of 10. And I think it's time to get this St. Louis cyborg.
Cancel all hits versus a robot. That'll be a double and a single. We will send to the minors this rookie and we'll replenish that with the five tool model. All right, we are now up three games to two. If we win this game, we win the World Series. If we lose, that's okay. It'll be a 3 to 3 and we'll have one more chance.
We have our six cards that we've drawn. I am going to place this veteran that can reduce all hits by one base on deck and then will replenish with this card. Oh, it's a basic robot. Now, you're going to see most the time when my play or when I play this against the robot, your on deck is used for defensive cards.
But when you play against another player, you might want to put a card that you just purchased there and then your opponent won't know if you're going to play that card or not. Against the AI, you don't have to worry about that. So, it's a little bit different. Still fun, though. I know for sure we're playing Josh cuz he'll get us a runner on first.
And not just a runner, but a fast runner because we want runs quick because this is game six. We want to take him down in game six. Detroit with their back against the wall, what are they going to start with? Oh, they're going to cancel a hit. Ha, joke's on you. I don't have a hit. Uh then they're going to have a single and a double.
That is amazing. That lead off is so helpful. I think for our next play, we're going to play Troy a Jeter. Cancel that double. So, he only gets one person on and we'll threaten with two singles. This means Detroit has a slow man on first base and we have two average singles coming up. Next up, Detroit is going to play a nothing with an immediate, which will allow us once again to score another run because we get a single here and then another single will score our fast runner.
We're up one to nothing. This robot will threaten two singles. Fine by me. We'll use Juan here to cancel all hits versus a robot. So, that robot can't handle our cyborg's curve and we'll threaten with a double and a single. Both of them will be average runners. Moving back to Detroit, let's see if they have a double play.
Oh, remove up to two base runners. No way. That was an awesome play. We lose both of these base runners. We do get to resolve a double and a single. So, we will score another run. We're up two nothing, but we could have scored four runs there and we only scored two. Bucky will then threaten with another single and another single.
This is where I wish I kept this card in my hand. We could have reduced both of those hits to nothing, but I can't play it. I don't have a pinch hitter. So, I think I'm just going to go with an average single. The good thing for us, though, an average single and another single here, they are not able to score.
Bases are loaded, though. We'll threaten with that average single. Detroit will draw their next card. Let's see are they going to cancel that? No, they are not going to cancel that single. That will mean we'll have men on first and second. They are, though, going to threaten with an average home run.
Now, you might be thinking a grand slam, Colin? That's terrible. Well, is it? Is it? We have a cyborg who can strike out robots like nobody's business. That home run ain't going to happen. And we are going to threaten with a single and a double. This could have potentially sealed Detroit's fate. They have no immediate effect.
This means we can hit a single first and that will score another run. So, we're up three to nothing. And then with a double, we'll score another run. We're going to be up four to nothing. But do you know what Barry Rosa does? He hits double home runs. That's going to score five runs. That actually would get them ahead in points or in runs.
1 2 3. Yeah, cuz they'd be at five and we're only at four. And you know what's even worse? I have no way to stop it. Right in the ninth inning, Barry Sosa grand slam. That's four. Solo shot. That's five. It's now five to four. I cannot believe it. We are going to threaten with a double. If they cancel that run or that hit, we lose.
If they don't cancel that, we will score two runs, which will sneak us in front. So, it's all going to depend on what this card is. This is just a basic robot. That means the double by our rookie our rookie is going to move us up six to five. This robot will threaten a single and a triple. But we have reduced all hits by one base.
We can play that for our visitor response. The single is gone. The double is here and that means we just won game four six to five. Seattle wins the World Series. That, my friends, was Baseball Highlights 2045. What a great experience. How much fun was that? I think the next time I play then, I will only have one buying round and see if I can sneak a win out still.
I mean, I barely won that four games to two. You can see how sometimes when you play the bot, they might be a little bit easier or harder just based upon the random 15 cards, but I always find it fun. And if you have the newer version of this game, I have tons of expansions in here. am really excited to try this game competitively.
I actually haven't played it that way. I'm hoping to play it with my family and friends over the weekend just because we've been watching so much baseball. I want to play baseball games. >> [laughter] >> As always, I'd like to give a huge shoutout to our patrons and subscribers. It's because of you that Bernt and I do what we do on this channel.
