Ada's Dream | Solo Playthrough
Hi everyone, I'm Tom and today I'm going to be playing Adah's Dream. In this game, we play an alternate history where Ada Loveace reached out to Charles Babage to help him with his analytical engine and he accepted her help. We are Adah's assistants in the game trying to best prototype our portions of the machine and whoever can do it the best will be picked by Ada to work on the real thing.
It includes a solo mode where Charles Babage gets fed up and in a fit of jealous rage has decided to build this silver lady prototype. I've done a how to play for this if you'd like to watch that as well, but I will explain everything that I'm doing as the game goes on. The silver lady will be going first, so we will see a bot turn first, but everything I'm doing you would do in the multiplayer game.

It's how I'm able to make these things. So, on your turn, you have the option of taking a workshop turn in which you will end up with a die and potentially some bonuses triggering along the way. Or you can choose to take an action. You take a dye from the board that you've previously taken on a workshop turn, put it into your mill, your machine, and trigger the corresponding colors action.
The game end is triggered when somebody places their last dye into their machine. So, their ninth die. If we come on up to the silver lady here, the board is a bit modular, so you can play on difficulty levels. I am just on level one here, which is the easiest, but there are bits of the board that change.
The color priorities are different for the different levels and the rewards that the autumn will get will change as well. There are also cards dictating what the silver lady gets for setup and where the gears are going to be placed. And she doesn't have a deck of cards. She just lays her cards out here.
She only cares about the ones from her starter deck that corresponded to a science. And you just lay them out usually at the top of her board, but I'm low on space, so they're getting crammed here for now. We have a special solo reference for the silver lady. And this is going to flip every turn. So the first turn they're going to do a workshop turn, then we're going to flip it.
Next time they go, they will do an actions turn. And so there are going to be 18 turns in this game, which is usually what it would be anyway in a multiplayer game. So what's the silver lady going to do? First, roll the workshop die. That's this unused gray die would just be removed from the game in a normal two-player game.
So, we're going to space number two. Over at the workshop, see each of the spaces have a little number on them for solo purposes. So, we go to space number two. They're going to select the highest value die in that space. And move that die to the first space with a die of equal or lower value. So, it's going to move there.
Here's equal or lower value. Push the lowest value die out. So, this three gain one solo reward. So, we'll see in a minute when I do the action, what a player would get. You'd get the bonus relating to where you just pushed the die. The silver lady does not get resources, does not get money. Instead, will be given solo awards.
Whenever she gets a solo reward, you move the reward die up to the next space. And if the reward die value is equal to or higher than the icon in the space, they get the reward shown. So, is the reward die at a one plus? Yes. It starts the game at a one. So, she moves up a research track. She would normally get the research in the color matching the active dye, which in a workshop turn is the die that she is taking.
There is no gray research track. Gray is a kind of wild die that lets you activate any of the actions when you put it in your mill. So, she will break the tie in her color order from left to right on her board here. So, she is going to prioritize blue and move up that track. She did also start the game with a move up the pink research track because of an assignment card she was given in setup.
So that's her gaining a solo reward. Next, if the workshop space is now empty, don't worry about that. It's not. She takes the die that she pushed out and based on the value of it gets extra things. So on a one to three, gain a solo reward. So moves it to the next space. So if the die is a four or more, gain a book.
It's only a one. So, what's going to happen is this is going to keep moving up and then when it loops around, it's going to increase by one. So, it might not get many rewards at the start, but as it loops, it's going to start activating more and more of these on its way up. And activate assignments.
This means if you'd taken anything but a gray dye, if you have assignments in that column, you get a move up the research track of that color. So, if she'd taken a pink dye, she has a pink assignment. So, we'd get a pink research movement here. She took a gray though, so that doesn't apply. Then if she has a book, she will publish.
This is an extra thing you can do on your action. You can spend a book to take an extra little bonus along with that action. She does start the game with a book. So we will return that. And the reward is you move your Steam marker up. So this moves up here. How it's going to work later on, these slots will all be full of dice.
And some of these gear spaces will be full of operators, addition, subtraction, multiplication. And if you filled up a row or column with three dice and two gears, you will do the maths in the order of everything that was placed and get that many points. It's one of the big ways of scoring points in the game.
Great. But you are limited for each row and column by your steam value. So that's why you want to get that increased. So, if she doesn't publish, she will try and construct a gear. But she did publish, so we don't need to worry about that. Finally, we place the dye that she took in the silver lady's bag.
The bag at the start of the game is filled with an unused dye in each of the main colors of the game. So, now it's got a gray in there as well. That's the silver lady's turn. For my turn, I've got the same kind of choice. And then I can publish or construct. I can't do an action without a die, so I'm going to have to do a workshop turn as well.
So, it's going to work in a similar way. So, I need to pick a die on the board. I am going to pick this blue four. It moves one space along, but we've got the option of spending a coal to either move it another space further, or I can adjust the value of any dye in the workshop up or down by one. I can do each of these things once on my workshop turn if I want.
And I do start the game with one coal, but I'm not going to. I'm going to move it into there. that pushes out a die. Then I gain the workshop bonus of the space where my pushed out dye is. So I get to move up any one research track and I'm going to move up the pink research track in Adah's study. Then we take the die and it goes over to one of my store spaces.
And then I can play up to one partner card from my hand. I have a deck of partner cards. We have starting ones in my player color, seven of those and one random tier one card that we were dealt. This is why I took a lowv value die to be able to play this partner card. The die I took from the workshop needed to be a one or a two.
I'm going to get some points at the end of the game if I've still got this in my deck at the end. I can only ever have eight cards. So, when I get new ones, we have to remove something. Other ones might have you paying pounds equal to the value of the die. That might make you reduce the value of the die you just took to play.
And we've got more cards in my deck there. These are our research partners and sponsors. So, I'm calling upon the help of Charles Wheat Stone, and I'm going to get a fair few bonuses for this. So, first of all, I increase my innovation. This is going to be spent in different actions in the game. I can have two more wild research.
I'm going to move up Adah's study one, two more times, and that's going to be great. When I take the action, which we'll see in a minute, and then I get two coal. Great. I've got three now. The card I played goes in my discard. And then I can check my assignments, but I don't get to start the game with an extra card in there.
So I do not get any extra research for having taken a pink die. Then I've got the option of publish or construct. I also start the game with a book and I'm going to spend it to up my steam track. Further movements for me are going to cost me increasing amounts of coal. So we go back to the silver lady and they're on an actions turn this time.
So, we start off, draw a die from the silver lady's bag and place it in the uppermost leftmost space on the silver lady's board matching the value on the difficulty card. So, it's going to go in the top left corner and it will be a three and then resolve the matching action based on the color and value of the die plate.
So, a pink card will take you to Adah's study. Hey, I'm about to go there. So, we'll see in a minute how the study works. you get one of these program tiles and then you could choose an extra bonus. So the silver lady is going to take a program tile based on the dice value. It was a three. So it's going to correspond to the display slots from left to right.
2 3 4 5 6 a three. So it's going to take this program tile and it just gets placed in any available space. This lady doesn't care. I'm placing them bird's eye. You can when you play and actually plug them in the punch cards they are. She then takes a study item based on the dice value. So, we're looking for a three.
She takes an assignment card of the preferred color. Her preferred color is the leftmost one if it's available. So, she wants to try and take a blue card. There are no blues out here, but gray can count as anything, so she can take that and put it in the blue column. She gains a research match in the column, so this is going to be a blue.
And then ignores what the extra reward is on the card and gains a solo reward instead. So, is the reward die a five or more? No. So, nothing yet. And then we cycle the markets as normal. So, if there's a program tile left here, it gets removed from the game. Slide them along, fill them up. If there's an assignment card left here, it's removed from the game.
Slide them along, fill them up. Then, it's asking about advanced action. You qualify for an advanced action if you have reached at least level one on the research track. She's not there yet, so no advanced action. and then publish or construct. Publish action if possible. She's got no books, so it's not possible.
Otherwise, build a gear. Remove the uppermost leftmost player disc. This one. Now, she can only build a gear if there isn't a player disc above it. So, she can't build a gear. Remove the uppermost leftmost player disc and place it on top of the silver lady's disc, which would earn it the most points.
And then this bit here about removing a disc, that's what she does if she does the publish action. So, ignore that. She doesn't do anything with the discs. She can't she can't publish because she's got no books. She can't build a gear because she's got player discs on all of them. So, it's back to me and I can go and get another die, but we might as well go to Adah's study first.
So, similar for me. I take a die from my stores. Has to be this pink one. Place it anywhere in my mill. I think I'm just going to place it in that top corner. And then I do the steps. Raid a study. So, I take a program tile. These will go in the rows and columns of my playerboard. And if I have all three dice in that row or column and the condition is true, I'll get the points on the top.
I think I'm going to say all yellow, I can place it in any row or column. So obviously not going to do this row or column cuz I want the dice to be all yellow. I think I'm going to go here and get two more research anywhere. And I'm going to take it in meetings in the yellow research track. Then I can choose a study option.
So I can get a book so I can do publish actions in the future. I could get an addition gear or I can take an assignment. I'm going to choose an assignment and I think I'm going to go for a day at the races. Help me with yellow. It'll give me a yellow research now and two. So, slot it in there. Get me two quid and me yellow research.
I have reached an exclamation mark breakthrough space, which means I get the breakthrough reward, which in this game has all been randomized up, is draw one of me cards. It's the only way you draw cards is by getting the bonuses. Oh, and I forgot to get the breakthrough for going up the purple track.
I get a brass for that. There is then advanced actions. I have reach level one here. So, my advanced action is I can have another study reward, but it has to be different. Can't be another assignment. I'm going to have a book. So, if anything's left in the end spaces, they get removed. Everything slides along and fills back up.
Sadly, for my turn as well, I do have a book, so I can do the publish action. But this relates to you putting discs on top of discs you've already put out on the board. I haven't put any out on the board yet. Build a gear. I could afford to do it. But like the silver lady, my player discs are in all of my gear spaces, so I can't do that either.
So that's going to be the end of my turn. And we go back to the silver lady who's doing a workshop turn. So let's have a look at the workshop die. And I don't want her to choose here. She's choosing number six. So, take the highest value die in space six. Moves over here. Take the lowest die in here.
Gain a solo reward. The die isn't a two, so she doesn't get anything from that. The workshop space is not empty. It was a one, so gain a solo reward. It's not a five, so nothing. And activate assignments. Green dye. No, it's got no book, so can't publish again. Can't build a gear. So, that's that. And the dye goes in her bag.
I'm going to have to take a workshop action as well because I've got no dice to place. So, I am going to choose this six here to move. And I'm going to let it push out this five. I gain a brass for me bonus. Comes over to me stores. Can I play a card? The only ones for a five would be these. So, it's going to cost me five money.
I could throw away a player disc from my board back to the box or change the value of a die. I don't have to play a card, but I think I'm going to. I've got some money at the moment. I'm going to regret saying that. So, one, two, three, four, five money, and I'm going to choose to remove a disc from the game.
Activate my assignment. I have one yellow assignment. So, I get one on the yellow research track. And then I can either publish, go up that Steam track again. I do want my maximums to be high. I could save it for another action. I am going to save it for now. I'm going to choose to build a gear. So, building a gear, they've got costs on them.
There are multiplier ones that you can get that have different costs on every one, but all the additions are two brass and a coal. All the subtractions are a brass and a coal. Why would you want the subtraction ones? Because every unused space at the end of the game is minus two points. So, you might want to just get a minus in.
Just do a minus one. And it still, you know, you need two gears and three dice in everything. So, it will also help you to complete the row or column. But I'm going to go addition in this case. So, two of me brass and a coal. And we're going to pop an add in here cuz I am hoping my big ambition here is to go 2 + 6 * 5 for the maximum 40.
But that is going to rely on not putting the yellow in the row where it wants to go for this scoring. I mean, I could just put it in later, couldn't I? Could just put it in there and hope that I get like another two later. And I've got to get my steam all the way up. It's an ambitious start. Maybe. Actually, I should have removed the disc from there and pop the gear here.
Yeah, cuz I'm going to place the five in there so it's in the all yellow. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the plan. So, I constructed at the end of my turn. The silver lady is having an action. So, let's draw a dye from her bag. It is green and it's going to go in this space as a four. It's green. So, we're going to the institutions.
So, place a disc on the highest lecture possible in the column based on the die value. So, it's a number four. So, it's going to be the advancement of science column. The highest level is equal to the current position of the innovation disc. It's at space two. So, it's going to be the level two space.
If she needs a disc, it comes from the uppermost then leftmost space. So, it goes there. And there is a little appendix for the solo rewards that tell you what the silver lady actually gets. So, the advancement of science level two gain a solo reward and increase two on the green research track similar to what you would get from this.
So, up two on here and a solo reward. The die isn't a four, so nothing happens just yet. Then gain an innovation. Advanced action hasn't unlocked it just yet. Then publish or construct. The silver lady will only choose to publish at the workshop and ad study for the actions. Never publishes in these.
So we'll always try and build a gear. Flip the uppermost leftmost buildable gear to its completed side. So it just gets to build that for free. And then we flip for a workshop turn. So, for me, oh, I had a thought that I could take a workshop action and then if you clear an area out and it has to be refilled, you get the bonus of that area, which would be a nice extra.
But unfortunately, this is a one, so it would not activate any dice at all. So, you can't actually choose that. You'd have to be increasing it or dice would have to be different somewhere else or someone might take that one by moving something else in. Either way, I'm not doing it yet. I'm going to do an action turn with my five that I'm placing there, which means we're going to go and have a meeting.
This is where you get new partner cards. So, I have to choose one of these meeting rooms. It's going to cost me money or innovation. So, my innovation is two. So, I come to any of these. I've only got two money, so I'd only be able to come here. The room you come in is going to get a disc in it, and that's going to count for majorities at the end of the game for these bonus tiles, which will score you points for every partner card you have in the corresponding science at the end.
I've got two reds at the moment, physics, and one of each of the other colors just built into your starter deck. So, Mary Somerville here, if I want to just pay the two pounds or increase my innovation, which I don't really want to do, but if I was to do it, Mary Summerville activates on a three or a four.
And her action is decrease innovation to take a card from the display without paying the cost, placing a disc or drawing any more cards. So, I can get more cards without coming here. I don't know how much I'll get to use that power, but I want to hang on to my innovation for now. So, we need to remove a desk.
I'm going to remove it from here. And we're going to go for this meeting room cuz this will put me forward for the majority for the astronomy, the blue bonus tile at the end. Whoever has the most discs here and I'm getting a blue card. Don't know if I'll have it at the end. Yeah, I want to be cheap at the moment.
Hang on to that innovation for now. So, Mary Somerville goes into my hand and I have to remove from the game a card from my hand or discard pile. I'm going to remove Luigi Federico who is a sponsor and doesn't count towards those bonuses and isn't worth any points in himself. So, sorry, he's gone. Then you'd get to draw cards if you'd gone to any space apart from this one.
If there's a card still here, it would get discarded and then we refill. Ah, but I have an advanced action because I am level one here. I get to play a card from my hand without having to meet its requirements. So, I could do the Mary Somerville ability right now and get another card or I could play this other Mary Somerville.
That's quite good. An innovation and a card and £3. I'm also tempted by an innovation and just get a study reward which could be another assignment card cuz I'm about to take a die in a minute. Yeah, I think I'm going to play Augustus. So, I'm going to gain an innovation and a study reward attempting to get a book, but I'm going to grab an assignment, and it's going to be to construct a prototype.
So, there is an extra icon here, which means I need to discard cards. The assignment is tricky. Construct a prototype. I need to discard two of my partner cards. So, it's going to be these two here, which might get me a bit stuck later on. I've only got one card in my hand, but that's going to go in the green section.
And I'm hoping to get a green die in a minute. So then finally, I want to spend my notebook to take a multiply tile. So do I want the one that costs five brass and two coal or four brass and 5? They're both very unaffordable at the moment. I'm going to go four brass5 pounds, but I'm also forgetting my bonuses from the green assignment card, which are a green research, a brass, and an innovation.
Lovely. Okay, it's workshop time for ADA. So, let's roll that workshop die. Four. Section four is here. So, take the highest value die, move it in here, take the lowest value die, gain a solo reward. So, this switches to a two, but it's not a five, so no reward yet. Didn't empty the space out. It's taking a two, so gain a solo reward, which will get her a research anywhere.
She prefers blue, so goes there and gains a breakthrough, which for her she doesn't care about. She gets a solo reward instead. And activate her assignments. She just took another grade, which activates no assignments. Put it in the bag. Publish. Has no book. Construct. can't construct any gears. So, that is it.
Back to me. I need to do the workshop. And I have hopefully remembered what I'm doing. Right. I'm going to move this blue four to here and take this green four. Get two coal. We're in a similar situation with this two here where I can't actually claim it. If I spent a coal to move it over here and ended up with a green one, I would clear this out and also get some innovation.
But I don't want a green one right now. Green four will do me. Oh, actually, I didn't want to move the blue four in. I wanted to move the yellow six in because I want to try and use it to get the yellow five, but I bet Adrian will use it. Not if I do another workshop turn. Tempting. So, pop that there.
So, we're going to do So, I've taken a four. We can play Mary Somerville lower my innovation to take a card from the display without paying for it. I think I'm going to say William Friend a book and£3. So, Catherine gets cycled out. Some new cards come in. Silver lady is doing an action and it's going to be with a yellow die.
So it's having a meeting. It's going on as a four in here. So select a meeting room based on the die value. So 3 to six correspond to the card slots from left to right. So three four is going to go here. Place the next disc along in this room. Take the card. It's going to be another engineering. Is that another green?
to cycle the market as normal. Advanced action, no. Build a gear. Yes, she can build a gear. And we'll be workshopping next time. So, I'm going to workshop again. While this hasn't changed, I'm going to move the six into here and grab the yellow five. Oh, there a subtitle. I move up the green research track when I took the green dye for having an assignment.
I get £3 for the bonus space, but I want to spend a coal to reduce this to a four, which seems rubbish, but I want to do that so that when I place it in my grid, let's say there I can activate William friend who gets me a book and £3. So, I'm back in a little bit of money, but a lot of it is potentially earmarked for that multiplication.
I don't know why I've put it there. I'm taking the D rather than putting it into my machine right now. Activate assignments. Yes, a yellow research, please. Nearly at the next bonus, which is still you get to play a card as well, but you draw two cards first. If I could get myself another green, we'd be going straight in here with a bonus as well.
Kind of neglecting travel, but can't do everything all the time. Roll the workshop die. It's a one. So, space one. highest die takes the lowest die gets a solo reward which is nothing right now. Space wasn't emptied. It's a three so gets a solo reward which is a research anywhere. Priority will be for blue.
Activate assignments. It's taking a pink dice. So does activate the assignment there and get a pink research. Publish or construct. Has no books. Can't construct anywhere. puts the pink dye in the back. So, this is going to be another coal, but I think it's worth it. I'm going to workshop again, and I'm going to say this ticks up into a five.
I move it in here and take the green five and get £3. If a workshop space now contains no dice, draw three new ones from the bag, roll them, and add them into the empty space. Oh, get this yellow six, but not next turn. I need to get rid of a die now. and you gain the reward shown on the empty space.
So, I get two coal as well. So, I thought it was worth doing. And I can't play a partner card. Unfortunately, I haven't got one, but I do have a green assignment card. And I'm now at level one, I get an innovation for getting to a breakthrough space. And when I come here, probably next turn, or maybe I'll use the yellow to get another card.
Whatever I do, I'll be coming here with an advanced action activated. Adah's drawing for our bag and is doing a green action. So the green goes on there as a three. So with a three, that's going to be the Royal Society column. Her innovation is at a three. So she's going to place her next disc there.
For that, she gets two solo rewards, which are nothing at the moment, but it's two more spaces up that track. Gain an innovation, and then she builds a gear, which she can. I need to take an action. So, I think it's going to be green five there. And we're going to give a lecture. So, the way this works for a player, you can pick any of the columns and you need to pay for a level where you can place a disc.
You can't place a disc in level one. So, if I want to go to just level two, it's going to cost me an innovation to place a disc on any one of those. It's got to be an empty space, by the way. If I want to go to level four, you have to pay for level four and all of the levels you aren't on. So, it's pricey.
It's going to cost me four innovation to place something up here, but the rewards are better. I am just going to go cheap at the moment and place one here. So, it's going to cost me an innovation. But now, if I want to do anything on level three, it still costs you the cost of level three. But it doesn't matter which column you're in.
Just matters that you're on level two. So, I don't have to pay the level two cost for any future institution thing. Unless I'm putting something in level two, you have to pay the current levels cost. So, that lets me draw a partner card. the one that wants me to spend some money, but I've got money at the moment and I'm getting more money.4 pounds.
I'm rich. And then my advanced action, I can take any available bonus, so it doesn't have a disc on it of the same column lower than where I just placed. So that is for me the analytical society, which can never have discs on it. Draw another card. Uh, good for taking a three. Two different workshop rewards and get an innovation.
Might be worth taking a three for that. And two more pounds. I am so rich. Let's get it spent. Let's buy stuff. Yeah, maybe you should have gone here. You don't need that four pounds, do you really? At the moment. Yeah, instead of the four pounds, we'd get to draw another card and get a research. Yeah.
So, drawing a third card also wants me to take a three. And I get to go up any research track. Well, we're nearly at the next meeting space. Oh, maybe I should go there. keep cards in hand when I came here. Yeah, let's do that. And we have another breakthrough which lets me draw a card. So, shuffle the discard and draw one.
And then publish. The publish thing here is I can swap any one of my player dice with any workshop die. And it goes where it came from. So, if it's from the mill, it stays in the mill. If it's in my stores, it goes to my stores. I don't think I want to do that right now. Do I want to put a subtraction gear in?
Not really. Be kind of wasting valuable turns. Let's build a subtraction gear in the only current space for it there. So that's one brass, one coal. Aida's taking a workshop turn. Where is she going to start from? Number two. Highest in number two goes in here. Takes the lowest die. Stops me getting that yellow six at the moment anyway.
Oh yeah, all these sixes are kind of stranded. They can only really come out to do stuff, can't they? Gets a solo reward. So this turns into a three. Get nothing just yet. has not emptied a space. It's a five, so she doesn't get an extra solo reward. Just activates assignments, which moves her up the blue research track.
Publish doesn't have a book. Construct doesn't have a free space, so die goes in there. Done. I've just put a minus next to a two. What have I done there? Maybe I want to go to the workshop and get a one. Oh, this multiplication should have been renewed. I'm going to move this three out here and take this one.
Getting me two coal. Loads of coal. I can activate Charles because I'm taking a one. Oh, but also I'm emptying a space. So, I'll get a research anywhere. Let's go up the ADA study research track. Now, let's take the one. Can't do any assignments cuz it's gray. We can activate Charles, which is an innovation.
Two more coal. So much of it. And two research of any kind. That's going to be a study again. Breakthrough is a brass. So, I'm back up to two brass. And I'm going to spend mukbook to go up the steam track which costs me a coal. Adah's doing actions and it's going to be with a pink die. Don't know why I'm trying to roll it.
So that goes in the next space as a five. So in Adah's study is going to take 2 3 4 five and place it anywhere on a board. Takes a book. Cycle the rightmost things. It doesn't matter if you didn't take an assignment card. one still gets cycled out for coming here. Now she's got a book she can publish.
So this is remove your uppermost leftmost player disc and place it on top of the silver lady's disc which would earn it the most points. So basically at the moment where she has discs there are row majorities here two points each. She's got the majority here. She hasn't got the majority here. So if she placed the disc on top there she would be two points up.
As far as she's concerned she's got this majority. So, I guess this would be the most points for her right now. And then she gets a solo reward, which is up any research track, which is the blue for her. She actually taken a blue action. So, she needs the die. She does get a breakthrough of a book. But she doesn't care about breakthroughs.
She just gets a solo reward. I think we're going to come to a meeting space. I'm going to place this four here. Come to a meeting. I'm going to pay £4 to place, let's say, this disc here. I want to compete for this majority. I've got two of a lot of the colors now actually at the moment. So I've got the choice of these three cards.
Blue or red would get me three of a color. I'm going to go for Margaret. Let's take a high value dice. Let me put discs out in the travel action. Yeah, I just I'm happy with that. I get to draw another partner card as well. Discard this from the game and we refill. And my advanced action draw two more cards.
And then I get to play any card ignoring its requirements. I'm going to play an here who lets me move. So the next small city. So when it means next, you can skip over universities. So the next for me would be you start in London here. So I come here. You ignore the travel costs when you come and do the action, which I realize neither of us have done yet.
You can go anywhere you like from London, but you have to pay for every route you go across. you get the rewards of the space you land in and also you can put discs in the university cities which are worth points and then if you're the first there you get two extra points for every disc above yours later on.
So I could get a card and a research an innovation and two money or I could skip over Oxford here which I think I'm going to do and get a brass and a coal cuz I want to try and get four brass don't I? So that's going to be my card played for that. I don't have a book to innovate. I can't afford to build gear and I don't want to do a subtraction one here.
So that's going to be it. Silver lady is in the workshop is going for space four is going to clear something out. So moves to the first space with a die of equal or lower value. So it's going to take this one. Gain a solar reward. Nothing yet. If a space is emptied, gain a solar reward, which is a research anywhere, which is going to be blue.
And then we refill this space. It was a one. So, gain a solo reward. She's nothing yet. And activate assignments. None for green, so no research. Doesn't have a book, but can construct. Okay, for me, I'm going to go to institutions. So, there's four. I want to go to institutions to try and qualify for an objective, but I was hoping for this all green thing that's about to move out the next time someone goes to a study.
But if I go there first, I might not be able to stay at the top in the institution, which I would like to be. I'm going to come to ADA study first. So the one's going to go there. It's gray. So I can choose any action. So in a study, I want this all green program toil. And I'm going to put that in my bottom row, which gets me two brass.
So I've got what I need for this. And then thanks to being level two, I get all three rewards. So, an addition gear, a notebook, and an assignment card. So, there isn't a green available. I'm going to keep going with yellow. I'm going to work with Babbage Traitor. So, that gets tucked in here. Well, I can tuck it in pink if I want to, but I'm going to go for yellow.
So, I get an innovation. And I can choose a yellow research or a pink research. I'm going to go for yellow cuz I'd like to get to the top for another breakthrough. Uh, but mainly make all of my yellow assignments worth two points each. So then I took both the things on the end. I'd like this as well.
Different no consecutives for 10 points. I could maybe do this in the top column here. I've got two four at the moment. A six or a one here. It needs to be green though as well. There's a green one out. Oh well, we haven't got that yet. Don't worry about that too much. That's for the future. There are loads more of these program tiles by the way.
I just didn't want the stack to be too big. If I've come here, I've got a book. If I want to put an extra disc out. Yeah, I'm going to spend it. So, I get to put a disc on top of where I've already got a disc. I'm going to put this disc out here. Help me get majority here hopefully. And then you get to do the level one advanced action of that space whether you qualify for it or not.
So, that is play a card from my hand ignoring its cost. I'm tempted to go for William cuz I get a book back and £3 and I'm about to spend some money next time I get to build a gear. I think Augustus here. I'm going to go up a research track. I'm going to gain an innovation and a study reward, which is going to be a book.
And that's it. I published, so I can't construct a gear, but we can afford the multiplication gear for here. And then I just need a yellow, which is a bit hard to get at the moment. Or we could just turn this into a six and get it soon. Right. I think that's all of my turn. I keep forgetting to flip this, but you can always see by the number of dice that the silver lady has in her bag.
She's got five, which means she took one last time. So, this time it's hopefully not doing green. It's doing gray. And I can't resist the urge to try and roll that die. Gray is going to go as a number one here. So, they're actually going to do their preferred color, which is a blue action for a change.
It's their preferred thing, and they haven't done it yet. I don't think they've found any blue dice. So, move the travel marker based on the die value. It was a one. The nearest university city matching an objective. the silver lady hasn't claimed yet. So they are a disc in two different regions, a disc in a Scottish university.
So I guess two different regions. She would just go to the nearest university space. Pop a disc out and gain the rewards. So they've all got a solo number on there. So this would be solo number eight for the university tile, which is gain an assignment card and a solo reward. Solo reward is nothing just yet, but that's about to turn into a four.
assignment card. Would prefer to get a blue one. Takes the rightmost blue card. Pops it in there. Gets a solo reward and the blue research. This moves to a four. Doesn't activate just yet. Then advanced action. She qualifies for an advanced action here. Also move the traveler to the nearest small city using the above movement rules.
So I guess just closer. For each small city reward type, the silver lady can't gain two coal here. She instead gains a solo reward, which is going to be a research anywhere. So that's going to be up blue, which is a breakthrough, which is another solo reward, which is now a book cuz the die is at four.
And she's at the top of here. So she's going to get this, making all of her blue assignment cards worth two points at the end of the game. If I do that, I can get the 1.1. And then publish or construct is going to build a gear. It's going to be that gear and we'll workshop next time. So I want to do my instit.
He's not going to do the institution next time. So I am free to take a die if there's something I really want. So downside if I take the yellow six, I can't activate a partner card unless I am willing to pay six to activate Joseph Clement, which I'm probably not. So we've got six turns left. Take place.
Take place. Take place. which is scary, ain't it, for the state of my board. So, we're going to go institutions and for how I'm placing these dice, which I know I'm thoroughly regretting. So, a player disc on institutions can come from there. I think I'm going to go here on the British government and get £3 and two brass.
I need to pay one innovation. Don't need to pay one here because I've already got something on level two. Then my additional thing, so I could have a card and two or I could have an addition tile. Let's have an addition tile. I don't I've got the turns to build all of this stuff. Never mind the resources and things.
The notes I want to spend at the workshop to keep trying to get steam cuz that's going to let me down. Construct. I'm going to do this multiplication here. So, four brass and five. So of the objectives that are out here right now, have the highest disc in two different institutions done and have three cards of the same science. I have I don't think I can prove this to you because I think this is the third blue card.
Oh well, if I'm wrong, we'll forget all of this. There's the blue card. So I have three of the same science. So, I can put a player disc. Let's say this one out there for seven points. And it's another player disc out of my hair. Okay. Workshop turn for the silver lady is going to be starting in space three.
Highest if tied, select the preferred color, blue. Move it out. Take the lowest valued die. Gets a solo reward. Nothing yet. When this ticks to five, he's going to start claiming objectives every time. Loop around here. hasn't emptied a space. It's a one. Oh, so gets a solo reward, which is a research anywhere.

It's a green card, which she doesn't care about. Publish. Yes, has a book. So, we'll increase steam a step. And we'll do an action next time. I've got to go to the workshop.
And I'm thinking here I'm going to spend a cold to turn this five into a four much as I want to move this out. It will take more adjustment. And I want this four. And let's just move anything in. This blue six in. Take this yellow four. I got a brass. Nothing's emptied. Play a partner card. William friend I'm most tempted by cuz it would get a book and I'm going to spend a book in a minute.
Joseph Clement could be a book a move up a research track, but I'd have to pay the money. Yeah, I'm taking a four. So that's that's why I did that for William Frant. So a book and three squids and then that comes in there. Activate assignments. That's two yellow research, which is all I now need. Draw a partner card.
Get me two points for every yellow. I think it's just wasted now any more yellow research I would gain. And then I want to spend a book to increase my steam, which is a thing that I'm not building. That's a a gear I'm not putting in because when I put this four in, this will be the max of 40. But my steam needs to get up there to actually get those points.
I don't know if I can do it right. So going to come to the workshop two more times. Let's see an action for Adri. I think that's all of my stuff. So I have the most in two different rooms and be in a Scottish university. Nowhere near that. Have three addition gears built. Not yet. Okay, it's going to be a blue.

And then the third one any research track is the green isn't it? So there place the disc and gain the rewards. Then she has the advanced action. So move to the nearest small city using the above movement rules. I think the only like objective that she cares about is uh towards a Scottish university which I guess there that's two types of things.
So two solar rewards a book and get rid of a disc. And then we'll build a gear and we'll workshop next time. Okay. I think we're going to come to meetings. Pop that there. And I'm gonna put a disc in here. I'm gonna pay5 pounds because I would like this two-pointer. Two, three, four, five. It's only gonna be worth four points at the moment.

But I think we could see all the cards right now, couldn't we? I've only got one green. So maybe when we get rid of another card in future, we want to just not have green. So if I get to a Scottish university, which would cost a fortune cuz it's miles away. What would it be? 1 2 3 4 5 six and then a rail would be four for 10 £11.
I could get to Glasgow right from here. Could be worth doing. Then I get to draw two cards and play one. It was going to be Katherine for the book, but now I think it's going to be Augustus an innovation. So when you get to six innovation, I don't think I did this last time. You can lose two innovation immediately to take any workshop reward if you want to.
I don't think I'm going to. And then get any reward from here. Oh, this should have been refilled ages ago. Tempting to go for an addition, but I'm going to go for a book. I'm not going to use a book to get a multiplier. I don't think I'm going to be able to do that. So, this turn I'm going to build an addition gear.
I'm going to go for I'm going to go for here. Yeah. So, it's two brass and one coal. I'm going to need some more brass. So, that was all of that stuff I constructed at the end of my turn. So, that's it. Workshop for the silver lady starting in one. So, we'll take the six, put it in here, and grab the three.

It's three. So, corresponds to the four spaces in the display from left to right. So, it's going to take this card.
Can have any number of uh partner cards as well. Activate assignments. It's a gray dice, so no assignments. Publish or construct. Publish to increase steam a step. Die goes in the bag. Actions. Next time I have to do workshop. So I need a green die to satisfy this all green card. It would be nice to have this five.
Although if you took the three would be easier to get. It's easier to play a card, isn't it? Like Katherine Clark Maxwell. Getting a partner card. Not massively fussed about. We're getting a book. Quite fussed about. Although I've got the it's it's coal more than anything I need, isn't it? Dear, how am I going to get that to keep constructing things?
Oh, need to refill a card here. Oh, I think that should have got discarded, shouldn't it? When gained a partner cord and refill two of them. Yeah. Move this in and take the three, I think. Oh, then that gets you an innovation. And you don't need innovation. But if I take the five, everyone gets me innovation that I don't need.
Okay. Like when I got the innovation at the top, I didn't realize my deck was in such a state. When I got to the top, I moved down and chose coal because I am short of coal as well cuz then maybe you'll feel more free to pick something. And then you could go up innovation, can't you? Yeah. And so we will go in here and we'll take this, which is going to go up innovation.
Playing a three. We can do Katherine Clark Maxwell, which gets me a book. And take any card. I'm going to remove this green that's worth no points and no points for that. And take Anna Atkins, pay an innovation to put an extra disc out and get a level one advanced action. And then I'm going to pay to up my steam level which cost me three.
We might just end up at 30 because I think the coal is going to hold me up. So I've got three more turns. I don't need a book, do I? Done all that stuff now. Try and get gears out. I've only done one row for scoring my entire machine. What have I done? Okay, so actions. It's uh a gray dye that I'm again rolling.
So a blue dye, which is going to go in the five space. It's all crumbling down. So with a five just goes to the nearest university, ignoring the one that's got a disc in it. So this one pops a disc down. It's university 10, which is build a gear tile. So we'll build that. An advanced action goes to the nearest small city working way up towards Scotland.
Two things there. So two solar rewards. So one get an innovation around to a six. Gains an objective has had the blue one. So once the green objective but can't have the seven points cuz I've already had it. And then gets to build a gear. Oh, it's the multiply one. Oh, I never took my dye. Oh, I should have had a green research as well.
I don't know if that's going to matter in the end, but better have it. I've already placed one in this row. Yeah, when I took a disc out, it should have come from this bottom one rather than this side one cuz I've already put a gear in here, haven't I? I'm not going to have the gears to put three more in, which is unfortunate cuz it could like I've taken them out in such a crazy way.
I could do that and do that, couldn't I? And whatever I put here would work out. Been good if I could could have got a multiplication. We're probably not getting to 40, but 30 is still decent, isn't it? But I don't want to put another minus out, right? Let's go for institutions. Or do I want to do my last workshop action now and clear a space out and get another bonus?
So, let's go for an institution. So, pop that three in there. All green achieved. All yellow achieved. And I'm going to pay two innovation to put this disc out here. Change a constructed subtraction for an addition. And then I can have an addition gear or two in a card. I want an addition gear. So, the end of my turn, I would really like to swap a die, but you might have the coal to get to 40.
Maybe I should plan to take the green die from here. I need two more brass as well. Where's that coming from? Okay, what if instead we paid two more? So, it would cost two four to go on this level instead. Put this addition back. So, I'd get £5, three brass, and a coal. And then with the extra I swap the subtraction into an addition.
If I can get two innovation, which I don't think I can from anywhere, then I could choose this, which would let me gain and build for free an addition gear and get three pounds and be the majority in that eight point row. But at least this gives me the resources to potentially build the gears. But now I haven't got the gears.
a build a gear this turn. Don't swap the die. I really want that to like be a six or something. Now it's a plus. So it's two brass and a coal. And then that is complete as well. Then it depends what comes out here. So silver lady is going to do a workshop turn. So we're starting in here. Move that dice space around the workshop until you find a die of equal or lower value.
There isn't one. So we increase the die until it's equal to a die in the first space along. So we increase this to a three and move it just like if he was doing these powers. He takes this three, gain a solo reward which is go up the green research track. He's got a breakthrough which is a reward which is a book.
He has emptied a space so he gains another solo reward which is remove a disc and refill. It's a three. So, gain a solo reward, a research on green, and activate assignments. He does have a pink, so he goes up the pink track, gets a breakthrough, which is a solo reward, which is get a card. Uh, the value of the die is three.
So, he takes this card, which is a sponsor. Still worth two points. That goes away. Two more come out. Publish or construct. He has just gained a book, so he can publish and up his steam. And then the three goes in the bag. Two turns left. So that has helped cuz I think I I need to do institutions, but a three is going to let me get to the top of something.
I think the five wouldn't. So I need a research. So I think my plan only works by playing Charles Wheatstone. So I need to spend a coal to reduce it to a two. Just move anything in and take this two, which lets me draw two cards. Oh, would these help instead? Now I need research. Haven't emptied a space.
So you come here. We're going to play Charles Wheatstone. So gain an innovation. Two research. It might as well all be here. So I get a breakthrough most importantly and get an innovation, which I need. Three innovation. Two coal is very important as well. And then I can play my book and four coal to go up to 40 points on there, which I think is only going to matter for one row.
Mistakes have been made here. And we've played him. And then we get a green research. I've taken that green card, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get to the top. But still, that's pretty good. Final turn for the silver lady. What action is it going to be? is going to be a pink. Rolling it again.
There's a two. So, what does she do at Adah's study? So, takes this program and pops it anywhere. Doesn't really care. Then with a two will build a gear tile. That is possible. That's going to get a load of points and then cycle the markets. Has an advanced action. So, takes the next reward as well in ascending order.
So, an assignment of the preferred color, blue, that's going to be another two points as well. And gets a blue research, which is wasted. Uh, and a solo reward, which is an innovation, which is wasted. Then, can't publish. No, it doesn't have a book. So, we'll build a gear then. That's it. But silver lady, for me, this has to go here.
And we're going to spend three innovation. Like, is it worth getting this gear? Oh, I ages ago I should have qualified for this. Have three additions. When I swapped the minus into a plus, I meant to do that ages ago. Didn't make any difference to anything. Just I qualified for that thing and then completely forgot about it cuz that's when I did a load of mcking about in it.
So, if I come here now, it'll cost me my three innovation and I intend to spend a book to swap this into a six. So the row would then be worth810. [snorts] Yeah, that's better than getting a program into it. Yeah, stick with it. So £3 and then gain an addition tile and build it for free there. Wish I'd gone along here.
Then we can take a an uncovered reward from anywhere below. Ooh, I'm going to go for this £3 and an assignment. Cuz if I take this one here, I can put it in my yellow column or even in my green column. It doesn't matter. Put it in my green column. I'll have a green research and then a workshop reward, which I'll have a research anywhere.
And then I get to the top here, I get an innovation, which I don't need, but I get this two point token. So, I've gained four points there because these were going to be worth nothing. I think that's the best that I can do with that. So, that was my advanced action. And then I'm going to spend a book cuz there's no point building a gear cuz it won't complete a row or column.
That ship's long since sailed. So I'm going to swap a die. So we might as well The biggest difference is going to be swapping this one for a six. It doesn't mess up anything cuz they're the only program cards. And I think that's it. So it's scoring time. Objectives first. She's one solo reward away from another seven points I think.
Yeah, yellow was next. So Tom versus Babs 74 versus 10. I didn't really travel. I traveled there once as a bonus, I think. I don't think I never placed a blue die, did I? So then travel the points shown where you've put discs on the universities. 2 six 8 for Babs plus two points for every disc on top of yours.
I didn't go there and he didn't place any extra discs on top of his own. lecturing. Whoever's got the majority in a row, so 84 for me. We're tied here, so we get half each. So 15. And then he's got the two here and and tied here for three total. So I've caught up there. Meetings. So I have the majority here.
So get the two-pointer. And he's not present. They only came here once, didn't he? It's going to help scoring my cards. I get the two point red, he gets a one point red. Nobody went for green and I get the two point blue and he gets none. And then we check out the cards that we've got. So yellows for maths that will be two for four points.
And then physics 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 for my yellows. For Babage, he's got one red for one point. Then partner cards in total my points are 1 2 4 5 7 9 and Babage has got one 4 68. So only one behind on that category. There are some things as well at higher difficulties. Silver lady will get to gain bonus things like a level three gains the one point scoring tokens here for every one that she didn't get for not being present.
gets less harsh penalties for non-build gears. Uh will gain some more like objectives that she didn't meet and assignment scoring tokens. Gets more things at level one. Nothing extra cuz the easiest mode is it. Next is program tiles. So all are yellow here. All are green here for 16 for me. And then for the silver lady scores them no matter whether she achieved them or not.
61 12 18. Then machines activate. So completed rows and columns. Here's a completed row and they sum in the order they activate, not you know bod mass. So it's two not that it matters in this line but you know 8 10 here 4 8 * 5 is 40 here. Remember you're limited by your steam but I've got max steam.
So that's 50 so far. And then 712 62. could probably have put a bit less effort into the steam and just put some more gears down and got a bigger score, but who knows? For Babage, that's going to be 11 + 7, so 18. This one's not done. 6 * 2 for 12, so that's 30. 39 44 47 minus two points for every gear space you didn't build.
Here's where I hurt as well. So that's two for Babage. So minus four points. 1 2 3 4 5 6 for minus 12 for me. If you got to the top of innovation, which she did for four points, I did not. I spent it. It's hopefully worth it. Then your assignments. So she has 246 there. I have 2468. And then leftovers.
Every book is worth a point. Neither of us have one. Then we've got innovation. If you got to the top, she gets four points. Then your assignments. 246 for silver lady. 2468 for me. And then your leftovers. Every book is worth a point. And then your add all your leftover stuff. Your money, coal, and brass.
So 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18. Every 10 is a point. So, one silver lady has no leftovers cuz it doesn't have those resources. But at higher levels, books will be worth more points that are left over. So, I think that leaves us at the end. 131 for me versus 101 for Mr. Babage and his silver lady, which, you know, I'm playing on the easiest level out of four.
Think I could probably have done a much better job of getting more gears out and making some more out of the machine there. I think the numbers that we had out very nice, but only one line benefited from the vast amount of coal and books that I poured into getting that steam up. But who knows? I'm a beginner at the game.
I've not had very much practice, which is why I went forward the easiest mode.
