Crimson Desert - Travelogue - The Village of the Sick

The Dungeon Dive Sep 9, 2026
Transcript 28:41

Hey folks, welcome back to the digital dive. Daniel here and uh we have another kind of exploration video to do in Crimson Desert. I read about this little village to the south of Hernand that is this kind of village of the sick. This kind of like leper colony or something.

Sorry about that. I had to close my door. But uh but yeah, I I kind of wanted to go check it out. It sounded interesting. I have it on my map already, so I've probably walked through it or walked next to it, but I haven't like stopped to really check it out. But, um, since the last video, my grey main uh base here, my camp has greatly expanded. I've gotten a whole bunch of new people. I found I spent quite a bit of time just doing the quests with Marius where or Marius and going and finding my my fellow Greymanes. So I have a lot of them now and I expanded my camp by adding a a pond here. So now I can like catch fish and throw them in and I can breed fish.

So pretty cool. I have a new cloak and a new helmet. And I also got this really cool weapon. We'll show the weapon in a bit. It's this they call it a cannon, but it's more like a spear that shoots ballistics at the end of a combo. But this uh this village I want to go to [snorts] is all the all the way down here at the very southern tip of Hernand and it's in Sunset Valley. And there is a bounty quest there. [clears throat] Excuse me. But yeah, I just want to check out this village. And I think we'll take the long way. I think we'll just kind of um you know, maybe do some horseback riding, maybe do some walking and just kind of see what we find um along the way here.

So, I also wanted to talk a little bit about some of some of my feelings on on Cliff, the main character, because I mentioned something in the last video and I I think I was a little too maybe a little too uh harsh on old Cliff here. And I called him kind of a nothing of a character. And I didn't really mean a nothing of a character. He He doesn't have a lot of emotions. He is kind of He's kind of gruff. He's kind of stoic, but there are some interesting things. Let's see. Where's this road? So, if we go through here, we'll hit and road, and then we'll just kind of follow the road along and go south all the way. Yeah, I think that'll work. So, when we get to that road just ahead of us, we need to turn right. Uh but uh Cliff is a kind of interesting character and I I actually like Cliff in some ways.

And one of the things I like about Cliff as a character is that he is Oh my gosh. Can my horse get up there? Um okay, I guess we're uh Okay. Okay. Sorry, horse. Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing here. Uh, but let's see. Let me get out of this river and summon my horse. I didn't know there was a a steep river there or a steep incline. Looks like there's lots of rivers here. So, let's let's get over here before we uh before we summon our horse. And okay, it's a kind of a cloudy overcast day here. Okay, there you are. All right. Sorry, buddy. But um one of the things that I like about Cliff as a character is that he is very kind-hearted.

And I appreciate that because in a lot of games, you know, we have games where you can be good or evil, you know, you can make the bad decisions, you can be a real jerk. Um I I never play that way. I always play as a good guy and I always feel bad when I play as a bad guy. Man, it is really overcast today. I did get this new item. Oh, now it's starting to rain. Great. This is really going to make the video look great here with my my low-end PC. I did get this new item that I can change the weather, but I think I used it once. I think you can only use it like once per day or something. Yeah, I can't I can't use it right now. So, we're just going to have to uh traverse here in the gloom.

And I know recording on my kind of low-end PC, it's not going to look great, but uh hopefully hopefully the sun comes out for us. Uh but um yeah, so Cliff is really kind-hearted and I like that he is always willing and able to help people in need. And the first like eight hours of the game, you are basically just kind of helping people and doing kind tasks and kindhearted things for Cliff. helping people out of predicaments, helping them just like claim their chimney, helping them find lost sheep. And at first that kind of turned me off because I thought, wow, is this just going to be a chore game? Am I am I only doing chores for people?

But as the game progresses, you kind of start to learn a little bit about Cliff, and he's just a he's just a a good guy. And I like that. I like that about him. when you stumble upon when you go on the quest, the missions to find your fellow Greymanes and when they meet each other, uh they they give each other these really strong hugs and embrace each other and they're very happy to see each other and they you know they they talk about how much they missed each other and there is this kind of kindhearted goodnatured feeling about this game even though on a lot of the quests, Cliff is actually is absolutely like killing entire armies. You know, he's he's kind-hearted to people who deserve it, but if you need to die, then he'll whip out his sword. And I I do like that. I like that kind-hearted nature because it is Let's see. Where do we want to go here? Uh I guess both of these kind of lead to the same place. Uh but um that's kind of the way that I like to play these games as a kind person and he treats people well and other people treat him well and through those interactions people actually like the characters will actually reflect and change on being uh kind to other people

and that is really cool. I like that. Should we cut through this farm here? I don't think so. I don't want to cut through somebody's farm. There is a sealed abyss artifact here. So, these will give us challenges. So, we will pick that up. And if we complete this challenge, we'll get a skill point. And it'll give us a little bit of a clue. Let time chase the arrow that flies. Okay. So, what does this want me to do? Uh, bow aim fire. Defeat five enemies with a bow within 60 seconds. Okay, that should be uh fun. I did kind of upgrade my bow a little bit and I did equip some poison arrows. Uh, in some quests I was doing the last few days. I really started to like the story of the game more. I saved these eastern witches from this warlord and that was a really cool boss fight.

And right now in the story I am kind of in Look out, dude. Sorry.

I am kind of in the next kind of area in Deminus and I'm working through all of this kind of political intrigue and this backstabbing and stuff that's going on in Deminus right now. And so that has been really cool. And there is actually a circus in Deminis that is very very cool. But the the the detail in this world is so cool. I just love going by all of these little roadside villages and looking at how everything is set up. Everything feels bespoke and unique in how it's set up. There is a lot of uh variety in the locations that you come across. even the mundane locations like this is a game like you know like Red Dead Revolver 2 that has a lot of Oh, here's some bandits. Okay, let's uh let's go fight those bandits. They're probably causing trouble. So, maybe we can use this uh new spear here. Uh let's see here. Let's equip the new spear. Yes, this bismouth cannon.

And I also learned some new like wrestling moves. So, I can do like some wrestling moves like Whoops, I missed. Come on. Boom. Yeah. [screaming]

[groaning]

I love it. So good. The combat in this game, it can be very simple, but it can also be a lot of fun. And then you just kind of have to put the effort into it to make it fun by by utilizing all of your moves. Crew devil mask. What is that? Crew devil mask. I have no idea what that is.

All right. Is that There's some more over there, but Oh, this guy. What are you doing? Need to get Oh, this guy, too. Drop you face first. Face first in the mud. Oh, that was great. Do you want some mud, too? Ooh, splat. Yes, you do want some mud. Okay. All right. Let's uh let's continue on our our trek to this sick village. This like this looks like it's uh blocked off a little bit.

Oh, there we go. Oh, there's a lot of bandits around. Wait, are we going the wrong way? Yes, we are, idiot. I do sometimes wish that the uh the roads on the mini map I wish you could zoom out the mini map. Maybe you can. Maybe. I just haven't figured out how. But I wish you could zoom out the mini map a little bit more. So you could uh see the roads a little better.

That's the wrong way, too. Where's that road? Where is that road that I'm meaning to follow? Heck it's not on my mini map. Must be over here. Okay, here we go. I think we're back on track now. Yes, we are kind of heading south. But uh yeah, man. Just look at that vista. This is what I'm talking about with this uh oh with this digital tourism. [sighs and gasps] Uh this is where you had gone up to fight one of the first bosses. Is this where I want to go? Really? Yeah, it is. Wow. Okay, so now we're just kind of having a straight shot along this road here. There's probably going to be a lot of bandits along here. I wish I could show the game in better light, but uh this game is such a resource hog on my machine that I have to really turn down the visuals just to get it to record. Uh it looks so much better when I'm playing just not recording it. But with the prices of uh computer hardware these days, I'm not going to be upgrading anytime soon.

But uh yeah, so I I have grown to kind of appreciate Cliff as a character, and that is because of his kind-hearted nature, and it's also because as you move further and further away from the opening quests, the story in the quests does get better and better, and you really do start to appreciate those kinds of things more in the game. I think this game makes a really really bad first impression and that is unfortunate for a game that people can't play for five, six, 700 hours, you know. Uh they really they just kind of frontloaded the boredom a little bit in some ways. And I'm not sure why they they they chose to do that.

It's because there's a lot of tutorializing and there are just so so many systems in this game that they had to expand the tutorial for many many many many hours and chapters and it's kind of crazy. And so Oh yeah. So this is where we fought the first boss in these this golden plane. And it was crazy. This area is so beautiful. It's just wide open planes. And I'm sure on a really nice high-end PC, this looks amazing. So maybe just use your imagination cuz I'm sure the recording is not looking all that great.

We have this little path here. Is this the path we want to follow? Yes, it is. Cool. All right. So, I haven't really been back here much since I fought the boss. As soon as I killed this boss here, I kind of went back to my camp and kind of continued the main story. So maybe I haven't actually been at all to this village. Maybe it just filled in for some reason. Those red rocks and the trees.

But yeah, this game is a real system hog and it hogs systems in weird ways. Hopefully, you know, I think they're kind of done patching content for a while, at least until the DLC hits. So, hopefully they will come out with some good uh performance patches because it definitely needs it. I did fire it up again on the PS5 and it does seem to run a little better than it did at launch. At launch, it was a mess. I had so many issues. I had these weird black inky splotchy shadow things that acted like water and uh it was just it was kind of unplayable, but it does play better. That is for sure. I was able to have some fun with it on the base PS5 now. So this is a trader and uh when you get your wagon you can start these trade routes and these trade routes you can you can buy and sell goods and the price fluctuates depending on this kind of in-game economy. And so with your goods you want to collect the goods then you want to package them up and then you can put them on a wagon and then you can go on these trade routes.

So, you want to, you know, buy low, sell high, and it's a pretty good way to make some money. God, this forest is just gorgeous. I know some people don't think this game looks good, but there are times when I think this is like some of the best the best looking game I've ever played, and sometimes it looks like crap. And it's just it's just just this weird problem with the with the engine or something and how it uses resources and lighting is weird. But um

help me.

An isolated patient who needs help. Where did you go? Oh, here she is. Okay.

Help me.

Yes, let's talk to her.

I'm from Sunset Valley.

Okay, that's where we're going. I came all the way here to gather herbs, but ran into some beasts.

Beasts? Oh no.

I fled for my life and left all the herbs behind. But I can't go back for them. I mean, what if that beast returns?

I wonder if it's actually a beast.

Understood.

Understood. There we go, Cliff. Perfect. Just Yes. I am here to help you. I'm so grateful.

When you have to follow NPCs, it can be kind of a hassle. They always move so slow.

Come on. Okay, I know she's sick. I should give her the benefit of the doubt. You're the first person I've seen to help. That's right.

I'm sorry to trouble.

That's what I do. Hopefully, she's not leading me to get ambushed because that happens way too often in this game. She might be leading me into a trap. She's going to take off her mask and then a bunch of bandits are going to attack us. I bet

we here. This is it.

This will be your

Yep. They're working for the red devil. I knew it. Okay, so that's what I get. No good deed goes unpunished, right? Oh yeah.

Want some water? Oh crap. Oh no.

Nice. Okay. Well, now where did that patient go? Okay. Yeah. See, she used my kindheartedness against me. And I will not learn a lesson. I will continue to be kind-hearted. I will not let that person sour sour my uh disposition. All right. Come on. I guess we should be looking around for like things. There is another sealed abyss over here.

Yeah, let's go ahead and grab that sealed abyss here. Cut through the crimson sunset and let the sound of your hooves echo from the sunset valley to a threshold of Varnia. Go from Sunset Valley to Varnia within 40 minutes on horseback. Whoa, that's kind of cool. I have no idea where Barney is. We'll have to figure that out.

Okay, we're coming through the forest here. Oh, there is another sealed abyss. This place is lousy with them. So, yeah. So, these are just little challenges, and it's kind of cool. You know, you you get rewarded for playing the game. With a hand and hammer, forge weapons that cut and fly. Artisan's touch. Craft a one-handed sword at the smithy. Okay, so that one we can do easily. Actually, I've already done it. So, Oh, no. Craft a bow at the smithy. I've already done the sword, I thought. But you can keep track of all of your challenges here in the challenge menu. And so you can see all of the challenges that you've completed and then you also get a skill point for those. But how far Okay, there we are. So that is this should be the village of the sick here.

Sunset Valley. So we learned some knowledge about Sunset Valley. God, that windmill and everything. Jeez, that is amazing. like this valley just being, you know, this little village is being tucked away in the very corner of this map. And like I don't really know if there's anything cool here. I just I just heard about this kind of like leper colony of these sick people and it it just made me interested. So I just kind of like looked it up and

I hope for a time when everyone is hail and hearty.

So that's a healer

no longer required. Looks like they're wearing some kind of like protective gear or something. There's another isolated patient. Hopefully these guys won't take advantage of uh Cliff's kindhearted nature.

But there are so many times when I, you know, I go to play this game and this is just what I do. I just kind of think or or read or look at a cool thing that sounds neat to go and discover and then I go there and just see what everything is about. I love bridges over uh bodies of water in real life and in video games. That was pretty sad. There's like some sick children as well.

That guy has nothing. And they're wearing like these pots on their head. Probably some kind of like makeshift masks or something so they don't spread the plague or whatever. I wonder what they are sick with. I don't know what's this guy selling.

I've got everything set. There's a

You'll always find what you need here.

A turnip, a tomato, and some cabbage. So, not much. Uh, these villagers don't have much to sell. It's a sick village. So, I think I will I'm going to buy 20 turnips from them. Why not? There you go, guy.

These guys are like kind of coughing and this kind of like healer is like taking taking care of them.

Folk here ill tidings.

Ill tidings. Their hearts are wounded

just as much as their bodies.

Oh, that's sad. So, let's see. There's uh something of interest over here.

We must stand by them so they don't fall into despair.

When folk ill tidings, their hearts are wounded just as much as their bodies. I wonder if there's some way I can help them. There's I wonder if there's a quest associated with this village where you can get some medicine or something and bring it to them. Discovery a well. So, we can use the well to get water. And water we can use to craft recipes. We can use it to like cook soup and stuff.

At least they have a nice place to live. Even though They are suffering. Their village is very nice. And I like the uh man, just being up against these mountains and this windmill. And they have farms and everything. Okay, looks like there's a quest over here.

Oh no. This is the outlaw. Oh, yeah. There's a bounty quest here. So, somebody's hiding out here that I can capture and take back to prison, take back to the uh jail and uh get some money for that. But, um yeah, this was just kind of like a little mundane uh travel log here. Heading from the Greymane camp down to uh Sunset Village to check out this village of the sick. There's got to be something else here. There's got to be some kind of quest or something where you do have to get some herbs for these people or something. But maybe I just haven't unlocked it yet. Maybe I haven't progressed, you know, some of the political quests or some of the more uh personal stories within Hernand.

But uh you know what we need to do? We need to get on top of this windmill so we can get a nice look at the surrounding area. So, probably need to go up there, take a look down. Anything shining around? But yeah, I I really do hope that there is a way that I can help these people out. I think that would be pretty cool.

I think maybe we'll leave the village for now. Oh, looks like there is some kind of Oh, that's the guy. I think that's the guy I need to capture. Should we capture him?

Yep. So, that's the outlaw.

What you think you're doing?

Hit him. He'll eventually admit to being an outlaw.

Stop this madness. He's pretending to be sick. That's low, dude.

You lunatic.

Yeah, I'm not a lunatic. You're pretending to be sick and you're an outlaw.

Okay, we'll tie him up. Let's carry him.

By sickness or steal, it's all the same. Let's take him over to our horse. I'm going to put him on our horse and then I'm going to ride back to the constable and drop him off. And I think we will call that a video. So yeah, let me guys know if you like videos like this for Crimson Desert where I just kind of explore a little bit and talk about my feelings on the game. Let me know. The last video I did on this game did really well, but I have a feeling that was because the day I the day I think after I posted the video, Crimson Desert or Pearl Abyss made a big announcement about the enhanced edition and and the game was just like really popular on YouTube that that one day. Uh but yeah, let me know. I don't mind doing these. I love them. I love this kind of thing in games. Just walking around, looking around at stuff, maybe doing some little side quests, you I probably won't do main quest cuz I don't want to give away spoilers. This isn't a walkthrough or anything like that. So, all right. Well, I hope you enjoyed this video and we will talk to you later. And bye-bye.
