welcome to the Grand Hotel High season Grand Hotel roll and ride which is the roll and ride version of grand Austria Hotel my hotel is better than Terren that's what I like sure I'm sure it probably is no it's not I like to think that my hotel is going to be better than turn but at the end it's usually turn that wins 90% of the game regardless we are going to do playr of High season Grand Hotel roll and right so this is the roll and R fashion of Grand austrialia Hotel who was out in it's a while back now 15 16 yeah it's relatively old game by the the hobby standards these days indeed did you play Grand Austria Hotel did you like it let us know in the comments and so we are going to show you how it plays by playing it how this one compared to the Grand Australia Hotel let us know as well if you can see the difference things that you like things that are missing perhaps and hello I'm Stella and this is Teran from meble University so we're going to start with an overview of High season and then we're going to do play it through now this is an early copy that I picked up from Asen Spiel games by Lookout games plays two to four players let's get to it t so I think most of most of what you can see here probably looks familiar this is a game very much in the style of uh of a number of Julian Luan games with the dice drafting mechanism so we will play over seven rounds every round we'll roll these dice that is actually fallen on its side that's wow that's there we carrot here's a six so we roll these hey that's that's on that's on video evidence of that that's evidence of tant bumping the table well that's that's not an unsurprising thing so these dice will be split up according to their numbers each number represents an action and the strength of the action is based upon how many dice are there when you take the action and you take a die away so this was in the original Grand Austria Hotel it was in Gollum had this sort of mechanism to let them had a variation on it it it's something we've seen in a number of their games from the same designers yes so we will pick a first player uh whichever direction the key is pointing that's pointing at you so you'll be the first player you would pick one die take the die away and resolve the action at the strength and then it would come to me I would do the same and we would go back and forward and take two actions each per round and then we would gather up the dice and roll them again what do we do what are the actions so one is to prepare a room to have housekeeping go in and clean up the previous guests and so forth and you represent that by circling a door knob on your board and the cost to do this is 012 or $3 depending on how high up the hotel it is it's all the whole row yes and these are our dollars uh we will be circling and Crossing them off as we go through the game okay as you're preparing rooms they have to be orthogonally adjacent to a room that's already been prepared and the steps on either side of the uh stair or elevator are considered adjacent well actually on number one uh the strength of the action is the total number of rooms you can prepare so it always costs that money but you can prepare as many rooms as there are dice uh number two is all about filling a room so you take a guest up shove them in the room uh this time you can only do one you can see that there you can only do one regardless of the strength of the die uh but the cost of the action is reduced BAS Bas on the number of dice uh the cost to fill a room basically just crossing off the doorknob and it costs 1 2 3 or four per level and it will be worth the number of points equal to the number of uh coins you notes you spent on it three is a mix between those two you can use three either to prepare rooms or to fill a room in the same way four is about you can either gain money with four so you gain money equal to the strength of the action or you can cross off a number of steps on the emperor tracks this works in quite a similar way to the original game at the end of rounds 3 5 or seven if you are too far back on the emperor track you're going to suffer a penalty uh which is in the form of negative points if you are further ahead on the track you'll gain some bonuses five is all about hiring employees so we have a asymmetrical boards and asymmetrical employee bands here and you can hire one employee the cost is shown on the employee minus a discount equal to the strength of the action and it will give you an ongoing benefit a once- off benefit or an endgame scoring benefit and then six is the Joker it costs a money to take the action but you can do any one of the other actions at the strength of the six other than that you can take loans so any point if you need money you can uh cross this off lose points but get the money you need as you fulfill rooms you'll get bonuses from those rooms and as you fulfill clusters of rooms you'll get additional points additional money and so forth so we will see all these benefits as we move through the game so basically eight here to complete this column seven in this colum and so on and then two if you complete a cluster of two blue room three get six points now this one's this one's benefits are money and this one's benefit is the Emperor track yes okay I am the second player so I get one extra money and this was our first round roll so you are it's my first action I will take D number four and I will not take it as money but I'll take it as Emperor track so because there were two dies I will cross off two of these just said it early the emperor needs to be pleased yes I'm going oops I'm going to take five which will be to hire an employee uh there were two there so it'll be a two discount I'm going to take this one this is interesting uh so that's going to cost me three money and the benefit here is when I take the Joker action over on number six instead of losing a money I will gain a money that's a really good one I think I want to try to hire employee as well so which is this one so 1 2 3 4 and I'll take this one which means that whenever I want to prepare yellow room so these actions it is free it is throughout like the whole game all right I am going to take six this is something you'll see quite a lot of going forward now that I have this employee so I gain one money for doing that and it's strength three I'm I'm going to very quickly prepare some rooms so I'm going to prepare one two and three that's going to cost me a total of 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 and that is the end of round one only two dice that's not much at all 14 actions across the game so we gather up all of these dice I become the first player whoops roll these good they all they all landed on flat sides this round and no sixes were rolled which is very upsetting for me sorry Taran but there are some some good little clusters here you go first I go first I need to work on my Emperor situation so I'm going to take the four and cross off three Emperor points that will let me prepare a room room at sorry fill a room at a one discount so I'm going to fill this one it's a Blue Room specifically normally would cost two so that will cost me one and gives me another Emperor point so I'm out of the bad part of the track yeah all right I will take this one so with this I will prepare a room up to three rooms because it was three strange so and with this bonus on I try to prepare yellow rooms okay so one two three they're all adjacent yes you can see they're adjacent to this uh starter one we have one starter of each color correct pre-printed one okay I will now grab some money so I'm just going to take this four and use it to get two money I will take this one and with the strength of three means discount of $3 that I will fill filler room thank you which I will do this one will give me one Emperor and one money let me just quickly get the money done and then Emperor is this one which gives me a discount of one to prepare so to fill a red room there you go so it cost one so it's free end of round two so quick it's too quick cross that off something feels like well it's only two pair round it's like seven let me let me try to roll it so you can blame me if I don't roll six but as with the classic rolling right you'll find that a lot of things will start to combo As you move that is actually true there you go six for you two sixes o you're welcome thank you don't be rude ah it was four yes thank you now can you find four please I lost four now two and five there you go I will take this Emperor one I will get the emperor for this one I mean I need money soon but I think I will use the emperor so three Emperor so it be would be one two and three now this gives me bonus of minus two to prepare a yellow room which I have so I want fill a yellow room fill a yellow room so it would be this one zoink it would cost three otherwise with it this discount of two it's only cost me one yep and this one means that I can prepare a red room with a discount of one which is this one sorry this is actually been crossed and this actually would cost me three to prepare three to prepare so one two three I'm broke now no it only cost you two cuz you had a one discount sorry yes thank you Taran and then the bonus of this I don't get yet because I have an fill up correct but you did fill up the uh emperor Row first player to fill up each Emperor row gains the points two points so I have to cross out these points I cannot get them I'm going to take my favored six grab myself this and I'm going to use it to fill a blue room so I'm going to fill this blue room at a two discount cuz there were two Sixers so that will cost me one to fill this the bonus of that is is I can fill another Blue Room at a two discount which lets me do this one for free and this lets me fill another Blue Room at a one discount which I'll use on this starter down here my last action this round I will take this number five three stren to hire this for free so that is your end game point this committing though committing to something early I don't know yes every column that you feel will be worth Five Points yes I will do similar from a commitment standpoint I will take the six gain the coin I get for that or the money and I'm going to use it for a single Emperor point which gives me this bonus here for hiring someone at a two discount I'm going to hire this one and that gives me two points for every blue room that I fill very good and this is our board even our main board is asymmetric the bonus yes I haven't been Crossing off the round cracker also that's round three done yep so round three is complete neither of us is in the uh dogghouse part of the emperor track so you need to have crossed off at least one on the light side otherwise you lose the points yes uh so neither of us loses those points if we hadn't filled the row we would be moving to the next row anyway I become first player and we go on to round four so how's your Hotel business T it's very specialized in blue rooms yeah what's so special about those blue rooms I get points for them with my ah no it's just like Under the Sea Under the Sea theme yeah okay SE view SE view okay so over there between the land and the sky okay so while I have automated yellow room so preparing it it's automated it's like you know have you been to one of those Car Wash that's automatic that's my yellow room room comes out of the house and go and pretty much all right so you are the first player now I am this round number four it is round four all right let me grab the three it's the strongest action it makes sense I need to do some room preparing I can do up to three rooms I only have $2 I'm actually not in a very good position to take this action maybe put it back maybe I should now I'll hang on to it I'm going to go really big on Blue rooms and hopefully it'll pay back okay I'll just do cheapies so uh three rooms that one's free that one's free and that one is a dollar I will prepare a room sorry with this one so strength of two I get to prepare two rooms first one is this for free because it's yellow second one is this blue which cost me which cost me one and I have no money great doesn't sound great I'm being optimistic sarcastic whatever it is when you want to call it okay I shall take the two that will allow me to fill a room at a two discount so I'm going to do this one that then lets me Circle a red room for free it's not the most efficient but I'm going to circle that one so I don't have money and if I take this this only give me one money so I'm going to take this one to hire employee with a discount of two I'm going to do this one so over span is only worth uh cost of one and give me three Emperor one two three which gives me one money that's uh that's very well timed well you know could have done better but anyways I don't think you could have that was very well timed thank you Darren Okay so so we go to round five five of this I need four Emperor points to avoid losing three victory points here and who's the first player don't foresee that happening you're the first player we got a very even oops that was a four we have a very even split this round okay yay in fact we have pretty much the most even split given the three is just a copy of one and two oh yeah I'm going to take this one to do two emperors zo zo prepare room with discount of two I'm going to prepare this one and I have this point and her will need to cross off history yes I'm in a a very weak uh Emperor position here I'm sure there are other points you can gain from I will take the six of course I will do the emperor track I'm still going to lose these points but it's a good way of getting this bonus here so that's my that's my bonus for the uh six and then I'm going to prepare this room for free I'm going to take this number two for fill up a room with a discount of two which I will do this one like and as the bonus I can fill up a blue room with a discount of one which I'll do this one which will cost you one one yep and give me one emperor track which is that one I shall take this six gain the six bonus and with a one discount fill this room I've now filled this little block of Blues which will be worth 10 points at the end of the game uh but nothing happens immediately I do get this bonus though which is to prepare one yellow room for a discount of one I shall probably do this one that is round five that is round five complete so I unfortunately get the -3 off the Emperors here I'm sure this is all worth it we shall see we go on to round six uh would you like to roll this time sure I want to certain things I'm sure I won't get it only one six that's y that is sad balancing okay yeah okay all right four and three you're your first player I'm first player so I've been focusing on the lower levels so there's not a great the only value I've really got in taking uh this huge discount is stopping you from getting that huge discount and even with that discount you can't fill your top room at the moment because you don't have any uh money so what s no I will take that I will go three steps on the emperor track 1 2 3 this lets me fill a yellow room at a one discount so I will spend my last money to fill this that gives me one Emperor point which is a TW money bonus on my board that's really good now your Emperor points is ahead because once you cross that level then you just fill up the new track yes I did get to skip the entire uh middle Track by doing nothing on it okay your action I wonder if this is worth it but I'm going to do this I'm usually to Ginger to do this but I'm going to take a Deb so I'm going to take this dead just give me two money minus 2 point thought you might consider that to take this one now this is a discount of three so I will cross off I will fill up this room with the discount of three so I have to pay only one yep the disc discount is a discount of three of another room uh sorry a yellow room fill up another yellow room for a discount of three which I fill up this one and spend this money mhm and then that is is that right so you get a couple things here you've filled this column yes which gives you six points and I also have to cross that column out on mine and you've filled up that yellow sector which is a four room sector which gives you five uh points on the emperor track correct so there will be one two three four just this one yes so this one is not you know whoever first gets it we both will get it yep so you make those marks on your Emperor track this is the only one I can afford these effect without another loan oh yes I missed the uh room bonus so you do that and then you do the uh I wish I have one more but unfortunately I kind of like don't want to take another line because that's like minus five is quite a lot so just going to crosses off maybe what last round will give me something good who knows right so this bonus is that whenever I take the number five action I'll get as if another two strength yep I don't know if I want to you know maybe last round I'll fill it up or this this one I don't know but now I resolve the imper which is this one which is five all right one 2 three four five now can I actually combine this with this no I don't so I can't actually afford let's let's let's do it first so this one first so fill up a blue room with the minus one discount just this one yep which gives me this [Music] mhm one that one loan has earned you like 20 points no AC but then this one minus too I can't really afford anything so I don't get that bonus unfortunately and then up to here and then uh one more there but I don't know we'll see if I want to do that one all right T all right my game is rather falling apart here I will take this to like your hotel your hotel competing Hotel use it to fulfill this uh week one down here is there a rule where you have to name your hotel or is it all high SE I don't believe there's a rule it appears to be Hotel A1 oh it sounds like the one of those generic cheap hotel ter mine is Hotel C1 apparently we'll see how the points end up and then we can give them fitting names yes yes yes actually that's true all right this is the second last round I think I'm going to try to give me to my KN just in case just for flexibilities for next time that's it okay we go to the final round what did you one six unfortunately a whole lot of room preparation which is not that helpful at this point yeah um and that okay okay but nothing on the emperor side of things yeah I know so as much as I want to hire my last employee not my last my employee give me two points per Red Room ready or filled I think I really need to push the empera because the empera emperor is four points for me so I'm going to take this the jerker action to do the emperor action and cost me $1 and I will do the last one Zo can get four you can't get that four you need to cross it and the bonus is to prepare uh Al fill a room with the0 my most expensive room is this one so this is the only one that I can do I mean I can do this but I don't know it feels like it's wasted I wish I would have fill up these ones but it's not if I wait another 10 you would have got that one I would have yes so all right I'm going to just do this and get me one money that's it okay very last and very tricky last turn I feel yep I will take this one and and simply I don't see an effective approach for me to get uh another money Emperor Point Emperor y but certainly filling in this which I can do for free at least it completes another set of four blues yep so my last action of the game I will take this one so I will hire this person at the end I was going to hire him earlier but then the other actions but anyways it's actually two points here so Four Points which is not bad so that was two of strengths because of this is four strengths four discount and that person's free okay and I can also get some points by hiring my last employee nice uh it costs three so these will go away and I'll fill that and that is it uh I failed to get out of the emperor's B books on this time as well so that's going to cost me a fair bit at the end here and now we go and count up the final scores so we get points for our employees here so I get two points for every blue room I filled which is eight for 16 and I get two rooms for every two points for every level three or level four so my employees score me 20 mine is 5 point for every column fill which which I completed two so that's 10 and this one sorry this is 10 and then this is four so two rooms that are filled so 14 only okay next is points for clusters of blue rooms filled so I have filled uh two four size clusters so that's another 20 points well I only fill up one cluster here which is three points so I got a good lead at the moment 40 to 17 but that will uh change I'm sure uh next we score the points for each level so every uh fill room in the on the third floor is worth four points on the second floor is worth three points first floor is worth two points ground floor is worth one so I get 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 well 17 for all of this which takes me to 57 very good so this is actually reminded here so this is 8 plus 6 14 + 6 20 + 2 22 only okay that takes you to 39 Oh very good here so it is all of this all right and per points I get -7 takes me to 50 I have nine takes you to 48 all right one point for every three left over money I have none oh I have two okay points from rows and columns I have zero never filled a row or column I have 11 which is these two yep takes you to 59 yes yes and finally uh negative points from loans I took no loans and finish on 50 I tookus two with this one takes me to 57 and that is the game you have won congratulations now the name of the hotel name of the hotel mine is not as dilapidated and horrible as I thought it was so this is going to be uh standard standard Northern standard Northern yeah nowhere near as good as Best [Music] Western but not as bad as um as dilapitated dilap is there there's no hotel called dilapitated all right mine is called automated I mean it's like the yellow room is automated so automated view no yes this sounds really bad it's automatic feels very robotic and I don't want it to feel robotic the robot arms yeah I was like another word for automated is um mechanical it's really bad it's even worse uh Clockwork Clockwork that's good Clockwork view thank you very much and that is hi season Grand Austria rolling right yes so there are eight different uh main boards four boards with two sides each eight different sets of employees as well so you can play all sorts of combinations I was like trying I'm was just too scared to put it there because there's this board I don't want it to Mark the table anyways you know you do that that right and the other employees give you like different different Power different taste of it yep so take a three get an emperor point and extra strength uh blue rooms are free yellow rooms are two points varation free stuff they're all a uh a power on the left two and immediate in the middle two and scoring on the right hand and obviously there are more dies for Higher Play accounts yes goes up to 14 dice at a four player game yeah have you played Grand Austria hotel maybe you haven't which is fine this is why you can play like you don't have to play Grand Australia hotel to play this but I heard that somebody mentioned to me that there's the Big Deck or something like that there's a deck that you know they hope to have here but it's missing but you know I'm not really missing that thing so there go this is our play
