Venture Angels | How to Play | Learn to Play in 5 Minutes!
Hello everybody. My name is Ilia >> and my name is Tyler. Together we make up Conor, a couple that loves to play board games. >> And today we'll be teaching you how to play Venture Angels. >> Venture Angels is a three to five player game designed by Brunafi Duty with the art by Ian Oul. It's published by Game Head, who helps sponsor this video.
>> Let's go to the table and let's learn how to play. As always, you'll begin by setting up. Shuffle the project tiles together and place them face down near the center of the table. Set aside the bonus token for now. Each player chooses a color and takes the five investment tokens and the player token of that color.
The oldest player will be the starting player. You're now ready to play. In Venture Angels, your goal is to gain the most fame by funding appealing but risky research ventures. Each round, you'll take turns secretly bidding on potential projects, hoping to see them fund. When the round ends, you'll see which projects get funded and which investors add to their fame.
Of course, fame attracts attention, which isn't always best for business. Once you've played three rounds, the player with the most successful portfolio wins. With that said, let's dive into the specifics. Venture Angels is played over three rounds with each round having three phases: round setup, investing, and funding.
Round setup. You'll reveal project tiles one by one from the deck into the center of the table. The chart at the back of the rule book will indicate the total funding goal, which is based on your player count. As you reveal tiles, add their values and keep revealing tiles until you meet or exceed the goal.
Now you're ready to invest. Each player has the same set of investment tokens, a four, two threes, a two, and a sneaky zero. Starting with the first player, you'll take turns placing investment tokens face down until all tokens have been placed. If a token has already been placed on a project, place your token beneath it, forming a column of investment tokens below the project tile.
The order of these tokens will be important. On your turn, you must place an investment token you cannot pass. Once each player has placed all five of their investment tokens, you're ready to proceed to the funding phase. First, you'll flip up all the investment tokens face up and calculate the total values of all investments for each project.
Then, you'll check if any projects have flopped. This happens if the total investment for that project is below the funding goal of the tile. You'll return all the flopped project tiles back to the box. Next, you'll check to see which project received the most funding overall. This project is considered overhyped and also must be returned to the box.
If there is a tie, however, neither project is considered overhyped, meaning neither of them are discarded. Finally, all remaining projects have been successfully funded. You'll now determine the lead investor for each project. This is the player who contributed the most total funds. In a case of a tie, the player closest to the tile who invested earlier will win.
The lead investor will then collect the project tile. Once all tiles have been either returned to the box or collected by a player, retrieve your investment tokens and begin the next round by revealing tiles as you did before. Now, in the investment phase, the player with the most fame, as shown in their project tiles, will go first.
But there's a twist. For each project tile you've won so far, you'll need to place an investment token face up. Additionally, your face up tokens must be placed first. Before we dive into the third round, let's quickly explain scoring. Your fame points will be calculated by summing up the most valuable project in each category.
Any extra project in each category will score an additional one point instead of their listed value. So, diversifying your portfolio is key. Now, for the third round, you'll follow the same rules as round two. And additionally, the player with the least fame points will receive the bonus token. However, if there is a tie, no one will receive the bonus token.
The bonus token will be used at the very end of the round prior to the funding phase. Once the last funding phase is complete, it's time for scoring. As described earlier, you'll calculate your total fame points by adding up the highest value tile in each of the three categories. You'll receive one fame point for each additional tile you have.
At this point, you'll compare your scores, and the player with the most fame points wins. In the case of a tie, the player with the highest valued project wins. >> And that's Venture Angels. >> Do you have any questions? you can leave them in the comments down below and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
